Mordain did not stop or wait for the man to fall into pace beside him, but he answered nonetheless. "I know that it is of dark origin, and that this power bears resemblance to that of the Great Necromancer. If you wish to accompany me mage, then keep your guard up." |
|
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Andros simply nodded, "Whatever it is, face it we will. Do you know where the other mage lords are?" |

((No, it is not that rare. Chadden knows what I am referring to; I simply was not sure whether that was my name for it or not. I think, Ariakas, that you mean the sort of magic that comes naturally and without the sort of study that mages of Weissland usually rely on, yes? I am simply talking about minor magic which can be achieved without words. Keeping on the subject of old stuff, an example would be when Falan did his little trick with the water in the air to impress Mhairi Castoden.)) Ithrain called more power through him and released it in an unnatural strength, raising up his body and kicking Elandir in the chest. The mage lord landed on his back, but free of the staff's grip on his throat, he could test his new powers some more. As the first of the guards came for him, he caught the blade in his hand and melted it with a spell, then proceeding to tear out the man's soul and crush it. With each word, he became more lost within himself, hungry for power. |

"Ithrain summoned all battle mages; I would expect that many of the mage lords are on their way to the gathering." replied Mordain. The pair began to ascend through the tower, growing closer and closer to the source of this evil. Mordain could feel it now. It was ever clearer, and growing ever stronger. |

"That's wierd," Andros spoke silently, barely enough volume so that Mordain could hear him. "I missed that summoning." Then he halted a split second, before once more catching up with Mordain. "There is battle up ahead. Someone screaming. I can hear it." He quickened his pace. |

Mordain nodded. "Yes, and there is much power up ahead. Dark and terrible..." The two mages arrived at the scene of conflict, and Mordain was struck with surprise and disbelief. Ithrain battled against Elandir and two Royal Guards. And the taint, the dark power, the evil, it was all flowing from Ithrain. Mordain cracked the butt of his staff off the floor and spoke words of magic. Ithrain was thrown through the air, landing against the far wall. "Ithrain! What has become of you?" asked Mordain, taking cautious steps and raising magical defences around himself and his companion. |

Ithrain got up, his fury reaching even higher levels. Elandir fled around a corner, leaving a bleeding trail. Whatever Ithrain had done to him, it had done a good deal of damage; his long and quick strides could not disguise a slight limp. Somehow, the mage lord had broken his collision sufficiently with his magic to prevent his head smashing against the wall. "I'm afraid I have been offered greater power and greater allies," Ithrain said casually. "I see now that Weissland did nothing for me..." He paused, taking a few steps forward and continuing as he finished speaking. "...and now, you will all face the consequences." The Royal Guards who Mordain and his friend had assumed were fighting against Ithrain suddenly turned to face them. Their dead eyes stared blankly outwards, but their weapons were held out, ready to attack. |

"You weak-minded fool! The Great Necromancer brings only the power of death. It will consume you!" said Mordain. The first of the undead guards leapt towards Mordain, but he knocked it to the ground with a powerful swing of his staff. Then, in an instant, he cracked his staff off the ground once more and invoked his magic. A layer of thick, black liquid spread from beneath him, blanketing the area around him. The undead creatures found their feet to be stuck in the tar-like substance. "You will pay for this betrayal, Ithrain, with your life." |

"You are not so much different to me, Mordain," Ithrain said, continuing to slowly walk forward. "Did you not betray those who brought you up so that you could walk a superior path? Did you care about the victims of your actions?" He stopped. "Only the strong can change this world, and sometimes meaningless values must be abandoned in favour of strength." He extended his hands out in front up him and raised them, chanting a spell as he did so. Dark shadows stirred beneath the liquid which covered the ground, and leapt out into the world towards Ithrain's opponents. |

In a quick mix of magic and melee, Mordain vanquished two of the shadows and then blasted those remaining away from himself. He invoked another spell; he was consumed by a shroud of shadows and he was gone when the shroud cleared. But then he reappeared behind Ithrain and quickly struck him with his staff. Ithrain was knocked to the ground, Mordain standing over him. "Only the strong can change the world; in this, you are right. But strength does not come from the ilk that you have pledged yourself to. That is a path of misery and weakness." Mordain raised his staff, readying a final spell. |

During all this Andros Kalmann had calmly looked at the magical duel between Mordain and Ithrain. He could sense Mordain would be able to defeat the now corrupted mage lord by himself. He noticed the blood trail and remember the man who had fled from the battle. Quickly he followed the man, casting a spell that would help him search him down. |

((He could just follow the trail, you know...)) Ithrain muttered spell words and fell through the floor to the level below. The hole closed after him, and then he gathered his power, ready to unleash it as soon as Mordain came into view. |

((I know, but I feel this Elandir might trick a standard person quite easily. No chances)) Andros turned another corner and caught glimpse of the man running, although with a soar limp, down the corridor. "Hey you!" Andors called out with his deep voice. "Stop there!" |

Elandir looked back to see who had called him, and stopped, seeing the other mage lord who had accompanied Mordain. He turned around and asked, his voice seeming to tremble slightly with his pain. "Is he dead? Is Ithrain dead?" |

((Hmm, I'm sorry. I did not expect you to stop. Do the mage lords know who Elandir is?)) "He's being taken care off. Mordain Thaendil is making sure of that," Andros said bluntly as he approached the man. |

((I'd say they are like the rest of Weissland - some do, most don't.)) "If he does not succeed, I am in a lot of trouble," Elandir said. "Do you think you could heal my wounds? This is beyond my own skills..." When Andros came closer, he could see a long cut on Elandir's leg, as well as two shallow stab wounds on his torso. All three sword wounds were fine - from thin blades - and the blood was what revealed them. Elandir sat down, uncomfortable, though he seemed neither sick nor faint at examining the cuts. His leg was the worst. Not only was he bleeding most from that, but the skin around it was burnt, and was slowly crumbling away to expose the wound more and more. |

((Well, do Andros know who he is. He is fairly-high ranking? though below Mistrandar and therefore also below Ithrain and Drairan.)) |

Mordain raised his staff above his head, holding it in both hands. After speaking the words of a spell, he slammed the butt of the staff onto the floor. The floor shattered in a large area beneath him, sending rubble into the room below and allowing Mordain cover as he fell through. His magical defences were still active, though he muttered a few words to strengthen them further; he wanted to take no chances with Ithrain. |

((He's your character. It's up to you.)) Ithrain made his attack without thinking or aiming, as soon as the ceiling fell in. Lightning crackled from his fingers, out in all directions, shattering the falling rubble and ravaging everything in reach. |
