"Yes, my lord. Though I don't know how much he told you, I believe he brought the most important info."

"He told me that Shiverland is attacking the Realm, and that Lord Sunnycool is going to lead a crusade against them. He also said that another army of the White Realm is coming to Weissland's aid. Is there anything more you can tell me?"

"The leader of the army coming to our aid my lord, is Hound. Probably you know more of him than I do but I believe he's a member of the White Council. "

"I will try and find out more through the day. I have made contact with some of the lower leaders among the Realm-army."

"Ah. Thank you," Lathaon said. "Things are not going well here, so far. Rios is under attack at sea, Lathor is going to be invaded, and the Wall may well have fallen already. The people of Ataya are being evacuated and we are soon going to make a counterattack in the Pass of Kuren. It could be worse. It could be a lot worse. But this will be a difficult war in any case."

"Good," said James. "And at the very least we will give the people of Ataya time to evacuate and allow the rest of the army to muster." James looked around at the commanders who would lead the army with him into the Pass. "Gentlemen, I know that these are dark times. I know that this is not the way you had hoped to return home. But now we must put all of that aside and try to do whatever we can to stem Drathmor's tide of soldiers flowing across our borders. Go, rally your men, and prepare to march for the Pass of Kuren."

"Aye, Milord," came the response, and one-by-one the commanders nodded to James before walking out. When all had left but Darnil, the Lieutenant said, "Milord, you do not think we can win this battle."

James shook his head. "No, I do not."

Lathaon shook his head as he broke contact.

He invited Arhaina to him with open arms and hugged her, whispering in her ear. "Listen carefully. I am going to assemble my men and go to battle. I want you to find Elandir and tell him Rios is under attack. He cannot go to Rathor."

"Find Elandir," she repeated.

"Probably best to ask around. See what's going on. Or let it be known that you're looking for him."

She still did not seem like she thought it was a good idea.

"He hates it when people are looking for him," Lathaon added. "Anyway, just tell him Rios can't help him. If any problems come up, use your own judgement."

"Is this your goodbye?" she asked.

"This is my goodbye," he said, and kissed her. "Take care."

"You too. Farewell," she said. She let him go, waited for a moment, and then walked away, soon to be joined by her guards.

Lathaon took up a fast pace and headed towards the centre of the tower. A few decent mages would not be too hard to find.

Mistrandar quickly joined up with Lathaon as he walked through towards the center of the tower. Mistrandar was followed by two other mage lords as well. One elf and one human.

"We're going now then," Mistrandar asked the Lord of Weissland.

(A while later)

Lathaon set out with three other mages. The Eagle Riders themselves would make fine archers, but the eagles each carried two men to be sure. There were eight. The same creatures as before, except two were elsewhere. (Ariakas + 1 to be safe)

They took up an arrowhead formation with Lathaon at the point, leading the way.

Arhaina did indeed find Elandir, though it took precious time to do so. He took the news with little surprise, and did not seem at all disheartened.

"In that case I will not attack Rathor," he said. "Has Lathaon left for the Pass yet?"

"Yes," Arhaina replied.

"A pity. I was going to ask what he was planning to do about Tarain Pathfinder."

"He's not a threat, not now the war is over," she said.

"My thoughts exactly," Elandir said.

"Have him released, then. My authority in the absense of my husband is as good as his own."

Elandir nodded and gave his thanks.

"But what about Lathor? If you are not going to help, then what?"

Elandir shook his head with a sigh and said "Who said I wouldn't help? I am not certain what I will do with that army of mine. They could help defend Lathor, perhaps. I need to talk to my men before I order them around."

"Isn't Lathor your homeland?"

"My homeland does not matter," Elandir said with a shrug. "My faction does."

((Grr. I was hoping for a last peaceful conversation with your character before slaughter/battle breaks loose. Oh well.

Mistrandar is among the mages? Ithrain? ))

The evacuation was well under way. The majority of the population had already been moved from the city and were making their way towards the homeland of the Order of Light.

Mordain returned to the tower. There, he spoke with a number of his Seeker officers. "What has transpired here?"

"Lord Lathaon has departed, my Lord. He took a small force of mages with him." said the first officer.

"And the Lord Castoden has also left, taking with him a sizeable army." added a second.

"Finally, my Lord, the Lady Thaendil has ordered the release of Tarain Pathfinder." said the third.

Mordain turned sharply towards the man. "Ensure that the order is suspended, and find the Lady Thaendil. I must speak with her at once."

The officers bowed and then made thier way to seek out Arhaina.

Mordain walked into the throne room. There, he took up a position beside the thrones of Weissland and awaited the arrival of Arhaina. Tarain Pathfinder could not be released, for that was what the creature Mordain had spoken with in Port Village had desired. He would have to convince Arhaina that the release was not a good move.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

((Grr. I was hoping for a last peaceful conversation with your character before slaughter/battle breaks loose. Oh well.

((Mistrandar can be if you want. Not Ithrain, though.))

((Oh, and Chadden, your seekers acted a bit too fast there for my liking... I was actually going to conclude the conversation today. But hey, I will work it in.))

Elandir's eyes jumped to the door as he noticed somebody move.

"I think we should get out of here," he said. "Follow me. I know some very good places to lose people."

Arhaina looked confused. "What do you mean?"

"Someone was listening," he said, standing up and walking away. She followed. "In my experience, those who spy on me are not my allies."

He turned into a dark alley and then ran silently along, clinging to the shadows. After some time, and enough turns for Arhaina to forget the way back, he abruptly stopped and revealed a trapdoor in the ground. Inside was a small cellar, and then through a secret door was a hideout of sorts. There was only one other exit. Weaponry, tools and a few documents lined the shelves.

"No sound will leave this room. We are safe here."

He took a seat, aiming a loaded crossbow at the door as he did so.

"Now what?" Arhaina asked.

"We were discussing Lathor, were we not?" Elandir answered. "I don't think it is a good idea to send my army to Rathor, when I do not have Rios' support."

"What are you planning to do?"

"I am staying in Ataya. I do not have enough details to confidently issue an order on that matter just yet."

"What about the Cerylian support?" Arhaina asked. "What about the Undead Hunters? Have you heard from them?"

"I have, yes. They are on their way, but it will be a while before they reach the battlefront. They have to go around the Crevasse."

"And the wall? Has it fallen?"

"Aye."

((My apologies.))

One of the Seeker officers returned to Mordain. He bowed before speaking. "My Lord, the order to release Tarain Pathfinder from Weissland's holding has been suspended."

"Good." was Mordain's simple answer.

Still he waited for Arhaina.

"Listen, Arhaina," Elandir said. "Do you still use a rapier?"

"Yes," she said.

"You should discard it and take a stronger sword. Our enemies must be cut or crushed. A stabbing wound means little to them."

"Lathaon made me promise not to put myself in danger."

"Your choice of weapon puts you in danger already," Elandir argued. "Look around you, and take what you want."

She considered his words, drew the rapier and set it down on the table. She held several different swords, testing their weight, their balance, their sharpness. None of them suited her, but she chose the best she could find, nonetheless, and equipped the scabbard. She thanked Elandir.

"Part of the job," he said with a shrug.

"Where does this lead?" Arhaina asked, pointing to the door.

"The prison," he told her, then added reluctantly: "I have had to use that route a couple of times in the past. By all means, follow it if you want."
