Kor'Mor'Oka stood up slowly as the dust settled. He was at the top of the building, and the book would likely be closer to the ground. Still, he had saved time by ignoring the guards. He drew his sword in his non-gauntleted hand, it was like a black shard, a weapon designed to cause greivous harm. The vampire rushed away to find some stairs, racing through a couple of rooms and corridors before finding a wide set of steps flanked by expensive banisters. He descended two or three steps at a go, time was of the essence. |

Laughter filled the chamber. "You wish to take it all, Grobtak? You wish to know the power that I have?" Grobtak placed his hands on the book and again the voice laughed. "So be it, mortal! Taste true power!" As soon as Grobtak's hands touched the book, dark power shot from it. Grobtak's hands were stuck to the book; he could not remove them. The power rushed into him, darkening his skin and filling his veins with raw darkness. The pain was incredible, but so too was the power he was filled with. When the power was finally absorbed into him, Grobtak found he could wield mighty magic and had a strong increase to his physical strength. His hands were released from the book. "This is not all I can offer you, Grobtak. This is not all you can be. A vampire walks through these halls, seeking to kill you and take this tome. Defeat the creature and the rewards will be more power than you can imagine!" |

As Kor'Mor'Oka rushed down through the building, searching, he began to grow impatient. He swept his sword about playfully, but there were no guards, nothing at all to kill. He continued on, sensing that somewhere near the ground floor there were enemies. He could hear heartbeats, and the vampire smiled slyly. |

As the vampire entered the main hall, the voice invoked its power to once again open the doorway down to the chamber which held the tome. |

Kor'Mor'Oka slid to a stop on the stone floor. Ahead of him a bookcase moved aside, revealing a hidden passage, with steps leading down. Cautiously, the vampire prepared his sword and walked forward. He realised that the opening was too small for him in his normal form. Taking a few moments, he changed his form, his wings receeding before disappearing completely. What was left was a humanoid form, vaguely elvish in appearance, clad in armour of many curved plates and a cloak swirling behind him. The vampire walked forward into the opening, down the steps into darkness. |

Grobtak staggered backwards, taking in and breathing in the great powers which filled his veins and heartbeats. He clutched his fists, feeling that he could break iron bars at will. Crackling magic lit up from his fingertips. It felt wonderful. He closed his eyes, using his godlike senses and strong magic to scan his surroundings. He could sense the battle between his men and the ghouls outside, the Shattered Sword-soldiers were forced to fall back but it mattered little now. He did not need them. He could actually hear the footsteps of Gonhin, his now unneccesary bodyguard, above him. The halforc was coming to find him, probably telling him of the situation above. But all this was insiginificant compared to the foe that was entering the dark chamber at this moment. Grobtak chuckled as he thought of vampire, how he would take it down. He felt invinsible. Quickly, he threw a cloaking spell across the room, creating a magical blackness which would hinder even the keen senses of the vampire. Then he jumped acrobatically up and used his powerful muscles to grip a hole in the roof, watching the entrance into the chamber through which the vampire would enter. He used magic to let his own eyes easily pierce through the darkness. The vampire had changed his looks, but Grobtak could still smell him. He stood still, waiting for his foe. |

Kor'Mor'Oka was two steps from entering this hidden chamber. Someone had cast a magical darkness over the room, making it difficult for even a vampire to see clearly. Such foolishness, the vampire thought. As if I need to see you to fight you. One of the most intriguing traits of vampires was their ability to sense their prey, not just smell or sight. He could hear the heartbeat, quickened in anticipation of combat, an unmistakable, unavoidable flaw in anything which was not undead. Kor'Mor'Oka could feel the body heat of his foe, and smell his unique scent. That was why vampires were good trackers, and Kor'Mor'Oka was excellent. With his gauntleted hand, he withdrew several small items from his belt. With an unnatural speed and agility, he rolled through the opening, and at the same threw the objects at the exact location of his enemy. The objects were barbed discs of metal, designed to pierce and dig into a foe's flesh, causing more damage when pulled out. Almost at once the vampire rose back to his feet, changing into his true form now that he was clear of the restricting stairway. |

Grobtak sprung from his position, only a minor heartbeat before the sharp discs cut into the stone ceiling. While still in the air he lifted both hands. With one he createda magical ball of white energy which he flung towards the vampire, with the other he conjured a magical sword which shimmered with a sickening green light. "What are you doing here, foul creature of the night," his, now deep, voice called out. "Come to play have you?" |

Kor'Mor'Oka was already moving, narrowly avoiding the blast of energy. He smiled wickedly and said "Oh, silly little mortal thing. This is no game." |

Grobtak landed softly like a feather at the stone floor on the other side of the room. "Mortal? Is that what you think?" He rolled the sword in his hand, feeling his connection with it. Magical energy crackled across his other arm. "Who sent you here?" he said. He wanted to hear that voice now, and internally he called for it to speak to him. Why did it want this vampire dead? Did it come for the tome? |

The voice, the presence, remained in the chamber, but beyond the detection of either of the combatants. It watched them spar, silently waiting for its plans to be fulfilled. |

Kor'Mor'Oka paced to his left, moving both away and towards the pathetic creature which faced him in the small chamber. He held his sword at the ready and continued grinning, a horrible light shining in his eyes. He said mockingly "Who sent me here? Well, that would be telling. Why remove the fun so quickly? Afraid you can't hold your own?" |

"I only wish to know who I will send the scorched dust which will be your remains to," Grobtak said. He lifted his hand once more, red fire sprouted from it and spread out towards the vampire. The room was filled with inhuman heat, and the fire blackmarked the very stone of the chamber. |

Kor'Mor'Oka danced out of the way of the fire, smiling all the time. He said "That's impressive. How long can you keep that up? It must be draining. Shame it's having no effect." |

"We'll see how long I can keep it up," Grobtak grinned. "Or would like to keep it up." The fire continued to stream from his fingers, following the vampire as stepped or leaped backwards to avoid it, flanking it slowly so places to move where running out. |

Kor'Mor'Oka was always thinking. Always planning. It had kept him from death for just over six hundred years. As he dodged back another step, the flame getting closer, he set the next part of his plan into action. Without warning he leapt into the air, above the fire and flew forward with startling speed. As he had figured, the flames could not be redirected as quickly as he could move. With a solid thumping impact, he crashed into his enemy, knocking them both to the ground. |

The vampire was heavy, like a huge load of bricks. The tackle could have knocked a well-built man straight out, but Grobtak was beyond what any well-built man could strive to be. Both the flames and his magical sword was extingushed. But he quickly rolled backwards on the floor, rising up and casting the spell which recreated the venomous sword. All in one fluid, elegant motion. With a move quick like a panther of the Realm of Maga Khan, Grobtak surged forward, launching deadly, quick attacks against the vampire. |

Kor'Mor'Oka held his gauntlet behind his back, parrying the sword strikes with his own weapon almost effortlessly. Every now and then he would step back, or step forward. He kept his motions fluid, resting on the balls of his feet. He had the height advantage over his foe, but not weight, perhaps not even strength. But the vampire was pleased to see that they were almost equal in speed, a true challenge. He blocked a strike, and began a series of swift swipes and slashes of his own. |

Grotbak parried the returning blows from the vampire as he paced backwards. He looked to the left, without breaking a sweat from parrying the strikes, towards the tome on the pedestal. He wanted the vampire to see it. If that was what the vampire was here for, Grobtak could understand this. If not it made little sense. Suddenly and surprisingly, Grobtak did not lift the sword to block a strike which came from above. The blade was certain to cleave Grobtak from head to shoulder height, but in one blindingly swift motion Grobtak lifted his other arm and gripped the blade of the sword. The edge bit through his glove, but stopped as it hit the skin on his hand. "You should have sharpened your weapon before this fight," Grobtak whispered to the vampire, his eyeballs shining with magical might. |

Kor'Mor'Oka laughed, the hollow, biting sound filling the chamber. He said "Not my only weapon." With shocking speed, he lashed out with his gauntlet, smashing it into his opponent's face with powerful force. In the same instant, he pulled his sword free of his staggered enemy's grip and took up a fighting pose again. |
