As Kor'Mor'Oka reached the area, he spotted the fleeing woman, chased by a horde of ghouls. At first he thought nothing of it, but then he realised that these creatures were not servants of Drathmor. They were something else. With a sick smile, he began to use his vampiric abilities to change his appearance. From black, slick hair, to shining, shimmering blond hair. From leathery, obsidian-coloured wings, sprouted white feathered wings like that of a swan. His skin took on a healthy palour. Without a sound, he swooped down, flying down the length of the street above the ghouls, gaining on the running woman. Rushing down, Kor'Mor'Oka saw the woman look back, then swept her up in his arms, heading back up to a roof a couple of streets away. He dropped her gently to the roof then landed gracefully, folding the feathered wings back majestically. |

The woman lay on the roof, shaking. She was terrified by both fear and sorrow, as well as the sudden shook when she was picked up and carried away. Slowly she lifted her head, daring to look up. She was amzazed and fill with surprise of what she saw. All her grief was ripped from her soul as the beautiful creature stood before her. "Who are you?" she whispered. |

Kor'Mor'Oka could play his part well. His mind was devious and full of machinations, plans within schemes within ploys. He waved a hand slowly in front of him and said "No-one of consequence. I have been sent to help the people of Endral in their plight. But I fear I have been delayed, and undue suffering has occurred because of my failure. You are safe for now. What is your name?" |

A foul wind haunted Endral as the skies darkened. By the will of great power, the voice moved over the city. It circled the angelic creature, whispering into his mind so that only he could hear. "Playing games, little vampire?" |
|
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Kor'Mor'Oka heard the voice, but remained impassive. He simply asked internally "Who are you?" |

The voice laughed. "I am many things, but you would not know of me. I predate your existence, Kor'Mor'Oka. I have existed longer than all that you know, even the great Drathmor Archon. What I am to you is an ally with an offer you would do well to accept." |

The vampire thought for a brief moment and said "This intrigues me. I want to hear more of this offer. But if you are an ally, would you let me have my fun first?" |

Again, the voice laughed. "Of course, Kor'Mor'Oka. These mortals are beneath the likes of you; treat them as such, as a God toys with his subjects." |

Kor'Mor'Oka smiled wickedly, he liked this new development. But the woman saw only the kind smile of the angelic figure waiting for her reply. |

"My name is Greta," the woman said, then she whimpered, tears running from her cheek as she remembered Endral and her location. "You are tool late. They are all dead, my husband, my children, our neighbours. all of them." |

The halls of Grobtak were again filled with power as a ghostly presence moved through the room. From the darkened shadows of the chamber did the voice speak, in the whispers of the damned. "Your power is threatened, creature!" rasped the voice. |

Grobtak was on his way down to the chambers as the voice reached him. He answered sharply, irritated at this voice which he still did not understand, "I have too leave soon nonetheless. I have to take the tome with me. Why won't it lift from the pedastle?" -------------------------------------------------------- Greya shook her head. "No, but it's the largest building in the whole city when it comes to rooms and floor space. Not as tall as the towers though." |

Kor'Mor'Oka nodded, listening intently. Finally he decided that a common citizen would not be of further use, especially for finding out the strength of the Shattered Sword force. He said "Thank you Greta, you have been most helpful to me. Most helpful indead." As he stood directly in front of her, he placed a hand on her shoulder, reassuringly. Then, as a smile played on his face, Kor'Mor'Oka revealed his true visage. The blond hair turned black, his skin, turned paler, then ashen, and finally greyish-black. The feathery wings seemed to molt and decay, feathers falling away and revealing leathery pinions beneath. As the women saw his true form and a look of horror grew on her face, the vampire used his firm grip on her shoulder. He pushed, and the woman fell away over the side of the building. Kor'Mor'Oka turned away to look in the direction of the centre of Endral. |

"Its magic is focussed in this place, Grobtak. If you wish its power, then you must claim it here! Do not run from this, do not deny yourself that which is yours!" |

"But my masters..." Grobtak protested, but then shook his head. He had to take a chance. "Then give it all to me," he said strongly as he walked towards the pedestal. "Right here, right now." ------------------------------------ Meanwhile, outside the Mayor's Building, Turak and his troop reached the stairs. The halted there looking, bewildered around themselves. They had alarm calls through the city, some of the other Shattered Swords-groups had been attacked by the ghouls. Turak turned around and watched the half-orc bodyguard of Grobtak, Gonhin, exit from the Mayor's Building. He carried a large axe across his shoulder, the shaft almost as long as a man. A strong wind blew across the open plaza, thunder rolling in the dark clouds above Endral. The Shattered Sword-members shifted their grip on their weapons. A bad omen indeed, Turak thought. "We should leave Endral this night," he called out to Gonhin. The half-orc scowled at him, "Don't be such a coward Turak. Just a few more nights and we'll head north." "Then it might be too late," another of the Shattered Sword members called out. "The ghouls... they will attack us now. They are too many." "Pull yourself together," Gonhin roared. Then he was cut off as he spotted a large group of Shattered Sword members running across the plaza, they were from the barracks he could see. Their leader, Ormen, was not among them. So the ghouls truly were attacking he thought. "Turak," he said, the man resentfuly nodding. "Hold these stairs and guard the entrance to the Mayor's Building, I will tell Grobtak of the situation. Maybe we'll have to leave now after all." |

Kor'Mor'Oka sat in a crouch, overlooking the mayor's building. He surveyed the scene, the group of guards in front of the building. They were nothing he could not handle. He looked across to the distant barracks, hearing the sounds of fighting there, but it was mostly over. More troops were fleeing from the barracks to the mayor's building. Some would jump down there and fight their way through the guards. Those individuals were idiots. Kor'Mor'Oka stood up and stretched his wings. Taking flight, he flapped his wings and rose high above the ground below. He flew until he reached the roof of the mayor's building. Quickly he ripped away several tiles, letting them fall to the street far below. Drawing the gauntlet back, he smashed into the roof, splintering wood. Again he hit it, and a third time, opening a gap. Standing up, Kor'Mor'Oka threw his entire weight against the gap, crashing through to the building inside. |

Turak watched as a horde of ghouls grouped themselves together at the other side of the plaza. He swallowed, it would be difficult to defend themselves here against such numbers. "Hold a tight line," he called to his men. "Form slowly backwards up the stairs, slowly I said! Ready your bows. Fire at will." |
