I think the acting was great...just not perfect, though really near to it. I'd disagree on some of the directing though, some of the adaptions from book to movie. For example, Aragorn has Anduril since he sets out from Rivendell, PJ gives it to him when he's in Dunharrow.

I prefer that. He means he is ready to become King after proving himself at Helm's Deep

HIC, I demand that you bludgeon yourself with a rock until your mental status returns to the level of a rapist who calls back to apologise! Your use of elaborate language and words is making me uneasy. Although, I am somewhat relieved to see that your punctuation remains shit-based.

Yeah - in the movie it seems more honourable or what you can call it. I like that little change - it makes more sense!

(Shrugs) It's Tolkien's story, not Peter Jackson's. :P Yeah the change was definite, but the sword didn't make Strider into Elessar, the crown did...and various moments throughout the book. I mean, Aragorn was the greatest swordsman of the age, and if I recall correctly, he was more than a hundred years old at the time of the War of the Ring. He was also the best tracker of the age as well...I think he should've recieved Anduril earlier on, it'd make more sense. "Okay so you're setting off with eight companions and you have to protect a hobbit whose going to destroy the ring of power. I guess you'll need the most powerful weapon I can give you, the sword of the king."

Wasn't he 87? I think so - anyways - I do get your point, but there was also some sort of showing how even Elrond realized that there could be hope for men, and that Aragorn was that hope, thus he decided to give him the blade with which to save and restore Gondor - the Anduril.

88 at the time of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

It wouldn't, Apollo. His most powerful weapon was his courage. He could have taken the Ring from Frodo, but Aragorn has a strong will.

I mean - Derek does have a point, but I just think that both options could be chosen - like they were - since it is just about putting different emphasis on the importance of Anduril

Aye. But Anduril is the Sword of the King. Its best to give him the sword when he is ready and willing to become king.

And close to become one. If he had perished in Rohan, he would not be able to become the king, but he not only survived at Helm's Deep and after the Warg Attack - he survived those events WITHOUT Anduril - proving himself a lot more.

But on the other hand, if he had had Anduril since Rivendell, he would have had greater chances surviving those encounters.

The death of Boromir sets his mind on returning to the throne...it just makes more sense to me that he'd have one of the most powerful swords ever forged to protect Frodo and the Fellowship, that being his mission. It's like going into battle without a shield...it's an unprepared flaw in tactics. ^_^

True, but don't you remember (in the movie) how he reacted when holding the shards of Narsil. He feared his destiny. He feared his blood. His weakness. He feared that sword. It made sense that he conquered that fear when he made his promise to Boromir, that he would not let the White City fall. He conquered it and then he was ready to wield Anduril.

Makes sense to me!
