I hated the way Arwen replaced Glorifndel in the film. There is no way she could ride against the Nine.

HIC, I demand that you bludgeon yourself with a rock until your mental status returns to the level of a rapist who calls back to apologise! Your use of elaborate language and words is making me uneasy. Although, I am somewhat relieved to see that your punctuation remains shit-based.

Unless she was more powerfull in the film then the readers of the book believed she was... after all she was the daughter of Elrond himself. That got to count for something.

Indeed, but could Elrond ride against the Nine openly? I do not doubt his power, but I always believe Glorfindel to be a far fairer and more powerful being than Elrond. Arwen culd possiblty have the skill at riding as showed in the film, but I doubt she could outrun the horses of the Nine. Only Glorfindel could do so, and a few others in Rivendell, but these were unnamed (bar Gildor Inglorion, through theory*).

In addition, Asfaloth was Glorfindel's horse, and it is an annoyance that Arwen had this horse also - unless PJ made a mistake and believed Asfaloth to be some Elvish word.

(* - Gildor scared away several Nazgul whent he Nine were on Frodo's trail in the Shire, therefore I think he could have rode against them, if he was able to do so.)

What is really the irritation behind giving the horse of Glorfindel to the Arwen.. I don't see it. Why does so many irritate themselves about that?

Asfaloth is a word yes, PJ was correct in that. All names are words.

Well, it was acutally Asfaloth who outrun the Nine, not Glorfindel himself. And Arwen rode Asfaloth :P

This is where I must disagree with you Ariakas. Glorfindel was an expert rider, and according to Tolkien's notes and he and Asfaloth were remarkably close to each other. The bond between horse and rider was of great importance, do not forget.

What notes?

And I believe great elven horses were masters of them own, able to ride as fast as possibly whoever it was that they carried. Asfaloth did not need Glorfindel to run away from the Nine, we know that from The Lord of the Rings.

Yes, but my point is that Arwen could not have the skill to confront them. Glorfindel can do so - he scared away six of the Nazgul's horses, making them drown by his mere presense, and he scared the Nine away, including Khamul and the Captain of Morgul.

Arwen would not be able to fight them directly, I think. She was brave, but the skill with a sword she had was not enough to take on all of the Nine Riders, yet she could take them on one by one, perhaps

Glorfindel did not fight them directly.. he scared their horses down into the river. And I believe the ringwraiths not got scared by human sense, but more like "confused".

Then again, the thing about Arwen using powers on her own, was accepted.

Yes. It is likely she had the power to do that, bing the daughter of Elrond. I never did like the actual process of Elrond and Gandalf the Grey summoning the wall of water at the Ford of Bruinen. I do not know why, but I always thought Arwen summoning it herself was more realistic.

(I am enjoying this discussion :))
