This was an article written by a guy at my gaming store named Nordak Johganis, so all credit goes to him. He's the premeir Guard player at our store and he just creams almost everyone who goes up against him using these tactics with his standard army. I only have a printed out version so I have to re-type it, so I'll only put the first part up tonight.

The Mobile Firebase

The purpose of this article is to inform the reader of the tactics of the Mobile Firebase system and the composition that best works with that idea. These tactics work the best with an Imperial Guard force, but could be applied to any shooting-oriented army with some slight modifications.

Force Composition
--Have your command squad with 1 Plasma Gun, 1 Heavy Bolter or Autocannon team, and 1 Medic. Have a Heroic Senior Officer equipped with a Storm Bolter.
--Have each platoon's command squad have 1 PG, 1 HB/AC, 1 Medic, and the Junior Officer have a Storm Bolter.
--Have 3 Infantry Squads in each platoon. Equip 2 squads with Heavy Bolters or Autocannons and Grenade Launchers, and 1 Squad with a Plasma Gun and a Missile Launcher or Lascannon. The Squads with HBs/ACs and GLs are anti-infantry squads while those with PGs and MLs/LCs are your anti-tank squads. I will refer to them as such later in the explanation.
--For Elites, use Storm Troopers. These are amongst the best units the Guard has at their disposal. You should have 1 Storm Trooper squad that has only the minimum amount of models in it, give it 2 Meltaguns and Deep Strike. Then, during the game, you can Deep Strike this squad right next to enemy tanks and blast them away with your Meltaguns. If you choose to include more Storm Trooper Squads, give them Plasma Guns and Grenade Launchers, and make your Sergeant a Veteran and give him a Storm Bolter.
--For Fast Attack, Hellhounds and Sentinels are excellent choices. Hellhounds are very good against horde armies and can burn through even 4+ save troops. Sentinels, on the other hand, can ALWAYS deploy in EVERY scenario, very useful to have. They are very versatile as well, and can serve every purpose imaginable. They can be anti-infantry, anti-light armor, or anti-armor. The only downside is that they can be easily destroyed, but at least they don't cost much.
--For Heavy Support, Leman Russes are a good bet. I always include at least one Basilisk for some long-rank support. Give your Basilisk the Indirect Fire option so that it can hit any target on the battlefield at any time. Very useful to be able to do. For your Leman Russes, equip it with a hull-mounted Heavy Bolter and two side-sponson Heavy Bolters. That way you have 9 S5 AP4 shots going at the enemy every turn!

That's all I have time for tonight. I'll try to get more up tomorrow.

Whoa, just realized I never posted the second half of this for you guys. TDWIC, I think you'll find it hard to adapt it to Nids. Here's the actual tactical part. It's pretty straightforward and not too difficult to grasp, although I dunno why people dont seem to pick up on it when they're playing him.

The Execution

The Mobile Firebase is a fairly simple set of tactical maneuvers designed with defense in mind. The Imperial Guard player, as he is a weak close combat unit, must rely on the overwhelming firepower of his force to reduce the enemy forces before they get into range with this set of tactics. I will outlay each unit's responsibilities below:

Anti-Infantry Infantry Squads--these are the soldiers equipped with HBs and GLs. This is the mainstay of your force, and should comprise the center of your lines. You must keep each of these within range of your platoon or company HQs (see below for more info on this part of the tactic). Advance casually with these units in pairs of two or three until you have gotten to approximately 18" away from a standard enemy infantry unit (ie without Fleet of X, Jump Packs, etc). Depending on what the enemy chooses to do, you will have several options. If the enemy moves the full 6" towards you, you are in effective rapid fire range. Remember that you have paired these squads in groups of two or three. Your HBs will also be in effective range because of them having not moved. Open fire with everything you have in this situation. If you have two standard anti-infantry squads, you will have 32 lasgun shots, 6 HB shots, and 2 blast templates against a single enemy infantry squad, usually 10 men. With the IGs accuracy, you can expect 16 lasgun shots and 3 HB shots to hit, as well as a variable number of enemies based on how the templates are placed. You are almost guaranteed that the enemy will have to take a morale check next turn, or, if you have good luck, that they will suffer massive casualties from the high firepower. Yes, this puts your squads within close combat charging range, but the enemy squad will have been reduced and you also have two squads ready to counter attack. Three squads is even more effective, and is highly reccomended. You will have 48 lasgun shots (24 can be expected to hit), 9 HB shots (4-5) and 3 Blast templates (variable). Either way, you MUST remember to gang up against enemy units and keep your forces tight together. However, your opponent may choose to withold his forces and not advance the full 6" if he realizes your tactic, or may even stay stationary. If you have maneuvered correctly, this is not a problem. Simply make the necessary move to get your units within 12" and rapid fire. The only downside is that you will not have the powerful heavy bolter shots to aid you. If you do not wish to lose the HB shots, stay stationary and fire only single shots with your rapid fire weapons. If the enemy retreats, do not pursue, as he is likely to try to pull you into what you have just tried to do to him. Stay at range and fire.

Whew. I'll post more up later.
