As do I Ariakas. I can tell you why you picture him to be a farmer though. The name Iorlas has somewhat of a farmer feel to it, and when Bergil calls him "Uncle Iorlas" you picture some hokie in overalls on a farm with a pitchfork. But then again, looking at facts, I find it HIGHLY ILLOGICAL THAT BEREGOND'S BROTHER, BEARING THE BLOOD AND HERALDRY OF ELENDIL, WOULD BE A FARMER. Think about that, then reply. :)

well, since he does not know that he carried the blood and heraldry of Elendil, and you don't know he was his brother.... then you can't say such stuff,

don't bother about if it was illogical or logical, FACTS is FACTS my friend Apollo, you can't just make thing up... even if other people JUST say that it is that way

now I thought about your post, so I want you to think about my post to

I kinda agree with Ariakas since, we must stick to what is documented and a fact instead of supposing and assuming stuff that sound logical. For not all facts are logical....

Alright then...Tolkien said the the 3 companies of the Tower Guards could trace their blood lines back to Elendil. That's fact, quote me if you want. He also said that Beregond was with one of these companies, meaning his bloodline goes back to Elendil...and naturally, Beregond's brother would have the same bloodline, would he not?

I want a quote her (it is CITADEL guard, not tower guard as far as I know, but I've read it mostly in norwegian so I could be wrong)

but anyway, give a quote

Chapter 1, Return of the King, Minas Tirith, P. 25:

The Guards of the gate were robed in black, and their helms were of strange shape, high crowned, with long cheek guards close fitting to the face, and above the cheek guards were set the white wings of the sea birds; but the helms gleamed with a flame of silver, for they were indeed wrought of mithril, heirlooms from the glory of the old days. Upon the black surcoats were embroidered in white a tree blossoming like snow beneath a silver crown and many pointed stars. This was the livery of the heirs of Elendil, and none wore it now in all Gondor, save the guards of the citadel before the court of the fountain where the white tree once grown.

Note by Chris Tolkien on Page 25: The guards of the citadel are the strongest of the warriors of Gondor. Their blood is traced back to the nobles of Elendil, and they number at least 3 companies. They are also referred to as the Guards of the White Tree, the Guards of the Citadel and the Guards of the White Tower (Tower Guards) which could refer to all soldiers protecting Minas Tirith.

Good enough for you?

well, I can't find the note by Christopher Tolkien anywhere but in my opinion it does not matter what Christopher says, it matter where he get it from

you still don't know if Iorlas was a member of the Guard anyway

Ah well...(sigh)...I'm sorta tired of explaining stuff. I still believe that Beregond is of some noble descent, and his forefathers were guards of Minas Tirith. I think that he was born and raised in Minas Tirith along with his brother, and his brother went on to lead a different company than Beregond. I still think that if an ordinary guard of the citadel could hear a nazgul cry and not cower...I think he has some emotional strength that's handed down to him through the purity of Numenorean blood. That's my take.

Okay- Irolas/Iorlas os the same guy with a spelling mistake. We all know Beregond was braver and more valiant, so stop "debating" over this person with the spelling mistake! :P

HIC, I demand that you bludgeon yourself with a rock until your mental status returns to the level of a rapist who calls back to apologise! Your use of elaborate language and words is making me uneasy. Although, I am somewhat relieved to see that your punctuation remains shit-based.

I don't wish too because discussing the Tower Guard is nothing to do with the Fellowship of the Ring.

Anyways, back on topic, I can't believe that people like Boromir more than Aragorn!

I think that Derek and Ariakas can keep their discussion. It might be off topic, but who cares that much, since it IS a discussion forums----know it's against the rules, but an exception?

øhm... think both me and Derek has said what we ants said... and we're both very hard on our opinion here, and I doubt we will change it at all so therefore I don't think we should continue this discussion

Aragorn was actually the best swordsman and tracker of the third age, Boromir just seemed more heroic because he died. If the two were pitted against eachother, Aragorn would win, but Boromir does have his own strengths. Boromir is stronger than Aragorn, in fact, he probably could have punched Lurtz in fotr twice as hard as Lurtz punched Aragorn, lol.

Lets put it this way, Boromir and Aragorn can both fight Nuz'gul and win. MOst men couldn't acomplish such a thing.

SAM SAM SAM AND SAM

He had the greatest burdan, more so that Frodo for the ring weighed on his mind as much as sams and also he had to watch his beloved friend falling towards destruction. Tolkiens Quote, Sams will was set and only death would break it. Hell He knew Frodo didnt have the strength to walk and so he caried him even tho he was half starved himself. Sam was the hero of lord of the rings, Aragorn was just there to help provide a diversion so sam and frodo could suceed and, they would have failed. The question is would sam have killed frodo if he had to? I believe yes if it came down to it. Sam epitimises the books. He is loyalty, bravery, kindness and friendship all the things we should all try and hold to. Except he never failed in his mission.

"Should you ever feel agony for the loss of your Brothers due to enemy guns, bear through it with a stern smile and let your enemy know that you will get into combat soon enough. His judgement cannot be avoided!

Should your charge falter under heavy resistence, roar your devotion in His name and amount whatever strength you have left at one enemy point and crush it utterly! Let the enemy feel your pain by turning their's into agony!

Should you lay beaten and dying on the field, laugh with pride for even in death our enemies will fear us, leave them with a scar that will haunt them till the time of their retribution!" - Chaplain Valorus
