Well - I thought of this when I played Balin's Tomb with the Fellowship yesterday. I won and my superb hero was Aragorn, because he killed the cave troll and inflicted two wounds each in 2 Goblin Captain. It was Gimli (with no throwing axes) that killed most goblins though and he got the highest kill number. Legolas came much after Gimli, Aragorn, Gandalf and Boromir. I wasn't quite suprized for Legolas was never a useful hero in my Force. Maybe I am unlucky with his dice, but he just doesn't work!!!! I shot with his Deadly Shot in 5 turns and killed 2 Goblins!!!!! I don't get it - lol. I was also careful not to lose Legolas so he shot behind Boromir who worked as cover. I used Gimli as a large defence in the front and he took many arrows with no harm. His defence 8 is truly great!!!!! He defended Frodo and Pippin many times and slew so many Goblins thanks to his abillity to fight with one- or twohanded axes. I used him in multiple combat with Boromir where Boromir used his sword to win the fights and Gimli then got advantage from the +1 to wound and the Goblins were easy for him. Especially when they got trapped!!! When Gimli lost the fight, the poor Goblins hit him and hit him, but his Dwarf armour didn't let anything in!!! While Legolas had more trouble. When he switched priority from hiding behind Boromir, he had to protect Merry and Sam from a wave of Moria Goblins and it was pretty hard for him. He killed some, but he lost the fight 2 times and was forced to use 2 fate points of which one fate roll failed leaving him with one wound!!! Aragorn then helped Legolas out and Legolas was amongst those who escaped Balin's Tomb while the Moria Force - shattered to bellow its half fled in blind fear of the wrath of the free (Moria goblins has a C2, so that's no wonder) Maybe it is me who uses him worng or the dice which fools me, but I prefer Gimli's slower movement and double-as-much-armour than the fast moving wood elf capable of three shots per shooting face with a low defence. And I believe Gimli with throwing axes is even deadlier. Have to try those!!! Oh and if you wondered - the only warriros who fell in my battle were Merry and Pippin who fought hard to save their Hobbit friends. Merry was wounded allready by Goblin fire (even though Gandalf had lit his staff). He was saved by Fate, but after that he fell to the Cave Troll together with Pippin when they got trapped amongst some ruins and Aragorn was engaged in battle and with no Might points left. |

I am a Dwarf General, but I just love Legolas. He is firece in combat, a deadly shot and, and added bonus, he has pointed ears! |

Legolas is an archer and Gimli is a melee-soldier... both of them can be brilliant on his own |

All right...I haven't tried him with much wood and Cloak but I will soon (no doubt the lack of penalty through woodland will make him VERY useful) |

especially if you don't just fight a pitched battle.. if you instead fight some sort of a special scenario I think he will be brilliant |

uhm....call it what you want but it is quite lucky if you take three dice and throw them 100 times and get 3 all the time
