Oh wow, look at those teeth, lol. That's a cute little animal, looks a bit like a Gunthers Vole. Have never heard of the that one though. It looks big as well, is that an adult? Do you have pictures of the whole animal, would like to see what it looks like from different angles. :)
I keep Rats, Cats, Multimammates, Gerbils, Syrian hamsters, 2 x male Guenthers Voles, 2 x Corn snakes, 1 x male Childrens Python, 1 male and 2 female Western Hognose snakes, 2 corns snakes, 1 x CB06 Male Taiwanese beauty snake. Right now I only have 3 photos of her, this is the most revealing of the 3. My camera is non-funtional presently, the friend who took these seemed very impatient that day, so I decided not to ask for more at the time. I will have more, soon I HOPE! I'm fairly certain she is an adult, but I had never seen one either, before she came to me. She appeared in ther doorway of the men's room at my Sign Shop one night, about 3 months ago. Upon entering, I warned her that bad things might happen to her if she were still there when I finished. She just sat there and looked at me. When I exited, she was still sitting in the same spot, sitting on her haunches with her little hands held up on either side of her as if she were begging or praying. I warned her once again, telling her she would be sorry if she was still there when I got back. I went to another part of the shop and returned with a small broom and dust pan.
Sure enough, there she was in the same spot, in the same pose. I pushed her into the dust pan with the broom, and she never even wiggled. I put her in a small carton, and placed a container of water in with her. She went to the water and drank a little. I closed the carton and took her home with me overnight. She made little scratching noises most of the night, but when I opened the carton the next morning there was almost no damage at all. In my great wisdom, I decided that, because she didn't seem to fear the water, that she couldn't have rabies, so I picked her up. She was so tame it was as if she were used to being handled. Judging from how much she's grown since that first night, I think it was because she was very young and hadn't developed a fear of anything! I did have to do a certain amount of conditioning, after she learned she could get away with pretty much anything, with me. Now she is very easy for anyone to handle, and doesn't display any aggressive tendencies at all. She seems comfortable in anyone's pocket and has been in quite a few, as I take her with me to the market all the time. All the employees there love her, and are dissapointed on the rare occasion when I leave her home. I know there is at least one species of Vole, that only lives to the age of 6 mos. at best, I pray she is not that species, but I need to find out before I mention her in my Will! Do any of you know if she might be compatable with the Guenthers? Or know where I might find another like her? There are a great number of people who have already expressed interest in obtaining one of her babies.

Gunthers Voles are a lot smaller then what you have there, somewhere between a mouse and a gerbil. I am not sure how well, they accept other animals, as I havent had to introduce more.

Looking at what you have there, I'm not even sure if its a native vole species to this country, becauae of the size of the teeth. From what you say, its been tamed to it might have been some body's pet that might have escaped. As its doing ok on its own, personally, I wouldnt try to introduce it to another species, it may be that the Vole is a loner like Syrian hamsters, and wont take to a new friend. Plus the other thing that would worry me would be the bugs it carries. I would keep it in quarantine away from other species of rodents for at least a month, to be sure.

Our water voles look more like rats, and their teeth are not so pronounced, and they can live a couple of years. I've not heard of small rodents only living for up to six months, but I could be wrong. Normal lifespan of small small rodents is 18 months to 2 years. They are also a semi protected species so you could be breaking the law in keeping it.

Personally, I would find an exotic vet, to find out what animals you have there. The main thing to make sure its healthy. Also, exotic animals require certain diets, and if they dont get the correct diet, it can have devastating effects on their health.

That's really interesting. :) Do you live in the uk or somewhere else.
