SECTION I: General Role-Playing

A. Role-playing will be the main activity of the site.

B. Posting Out of Character (OOC) messages in a role-play thread should be kept to an absolute minimum. Please take advantage of and utilize the RP OOC board.

C. All profane and vulgar language should be kept out of all role-plays, regardless of the character and regardless of the situation. Mercenaries, bounty hunters and soldiers may seem like the types of characters who would swear a lot, though that is not the way the staff sees it. Remember, the Star Wars universe uses a different kind of profanity. Acceptable Earth words would be “hell”, “damn”, “bitch”, “bastard” or “ass”. Unacceptable words are “shit”, “****”, “pussy”, “dick”, etc. For a list of curse words native to the Galaxy Far, Far Away, please see this website. If you have any questions regarding the website, please consult the SWR staff.

D. When you start a thread, be sure you established a sense of beginning. Describe your surroundings including the environment, weather, people, animals, buildings, etc. This will help keep things clear for those who post in the thread.

E. Show respect to everyone in the role-play. Members, VIPs and staff members should all be shown the same level of respect by everyone. Just because someone has a higher title than you does not mean they are better than anyone else.

F. You cannot set up a challenge where the loser is to be banned for any amount of time. Bans are used only as punishments and deterrents for those who break rules.

G. The staff reserves the right to lay out any consequence they see fit for the breaking of these or any other site rules.

SECTION II: Character Creation

A. Your character is not God, he is not immortal and he is not invincible. He is a mortal being. If he loses his hand it will not grow back. He cannot dodge every attack and he cannot instantly kill people.

B. In no way, shape or form are Mary Sues allowed on this site. Basically, a Mary Sue or a Gary Stue will have had nothing bad happen to them…ever. They’re the perfect characters, almost God-like, and they come into stories as either blessed saviors or dreadful conquerors. Nothing bad will ever happen to them and they will either save the galaxy or take it over, winning every war and every battle that comes their way. The term is also associated with characters who are exceptionally lucky, far beyond what can normally be considered realistic. The good luck may be in such common things as romance (Mary Sue always gets her man), adventure (Mary Sue always wins a fight or knows how to solve the puzzle) and popularity (everyone wants to be around Mary Sue). If there was one word that could sum up the ridiculous amount of power they have, it’d be “uber”.

C. When making the profile for your character, be sure to make it detailed. A simple profile, even for a new character, is not enough. When posting a profile, it cannot say “Coming Soon” or anything else of the sort. It must have at least fifty words, but fifty words is nothing. Your history should be at least three to four paragraphs long and “he’s a new character” is not an excuse. Everyone has a back story. They were not simply twiddling their thumbs until they came into the story. There are two forms of character profiles you may use and you can click here to read them. If you still need help with your profile, feel free to consult any member of the site with your questions.

C.1. Please also note that when creating your character’s name, canon names are strongly discouraged. There should be no one named Qel-Droma, Organa, Solo, Katarn or anything else from canon. The galaxy is far too big for the ancestors or descendants of major characters to be running around fighting the bad guys at the same time.

D. Your character cannot start with a large amount of weapons and armor. He must earn them through time. He may, of course, have inherited things from family members, but please be reasonable when starting out.

E. Jedi and other Force users are the only characters able to fight with a lightsaber without losing a part of their body or their life. Until the character has been trained by a Jedi or Independent Force users, you cannot use one. There are, however, exceptions to this rule. For example, if you would like to start an Independent Force-Wielding Faction then you are allowed to start of being able to use a lightsaber. You cannot, however, be above the skill level of a Jedi Knight if you have never been a part of the aforementioned factions.

Section III: Fighting and Dueling

A. If your character is killed in a battle between factions or a fight with other characters, you cannot claim that you were Role-Playing a hologram, clone, illusion, apparition or robot unless that was specified before the commencement of the fight. You must inform your opponent of those circumstances prior to beginning the fight and he must agree with them. If he does not, then you must fight as your character.

B. Any attack must be able to be countered unless you have approached the end of a duel. You cannot simply walk into a thread and kill someone instantly or destroy a shipyard with a single shot or launch fifty missiles at an enemy ship during their own wedding. Everyone should be given the chance to defend themselves after every move. Whether or not they are able to think of a defense is up to their own imagination.
B.2. You may not post things such as “and he shot his opponent in the head” because that gives your opponent virtually no chance of survival and you would be controlling another character. The best way to say something like this is to say that “he shot towards his opponents head”, as that gives the opponent a chance to dodge it.

C. If your Force Sensitive character is killed, he cannot return as a Force Spirit, a Dark Side Spirit or a Force Ghost unless otherwise specified by the staff. There is little to no chance that the staff will approve such a request for whatever reason, and there is even less of a chance that it will be for a Force Ghost.

D. If your character is a Force user, keep in mind what ability and skill level you’re at. A character who is a Jedi Master can use more Force Powers while prolonging its usage, while a Jedi Apprentice is restricted to only a few uses of certain abilities.

E. You cannot destroy entire planets and/or systems. There are no Star Forges, Death Stars or Sun Crushers in this timeline. The most damage allowed is for a fleet to unleash a major bombardment of a planet’s surface, though you need a large fleet to inflict such damage.

SECTION IV: The Force

A. The Force is the greatest power in the galaxy. This will never be questioned.

B. Characters who use the Force must undergo training from a master. If your “uncle” or “brother” trained you in the way of the Force then you are still restricted to only the Jedi Hopefull abilities as you cannot control the Force correctly until a proper Master, whether it be a Jedi Knight, Jedi Master or an equivilant, has tought you. This does not apply to those making Independent Factions.

C. Everyone must be instructed in the ways of lightsaber combat. Just because you may have inherited it from someone does not mean you know how to use it. It takes years to learn how to properly use a lightsaber so the likelihood of your character having mastered it, let alone learning how to use it, is slim-to-none. If you have come to the Jedi Temple with an inherited lightsaber, you must tell your master at the start of your training either in character or out of character.

D. You may only use Force Powers in this sites Force Powers list. If you believe one should be added to the list, please consult the Staff.

E. When using a Force Power in a role-play, you must make it detailed. “He used Force Push” is not an acceptable description.

F. Some powers and abilities are restricted to ranks that may be higher than your own.

G. All powers and abilities your character has learned must be stated in his profile.

H. Just because you are a Jedi does not mean you are invincible. When someone uses a Force Power against you, take appropriate hits. Everything should be kept fair.

I. You cannot use a Force Power that will cause massive destruction to a wide radius, cause massive property damage or kill hundreds or more people, even if they are all NPCs. It does not matter who you are or how long you’ve role-played.

J. You are not to use Force Choke against a non-Force user to kill them, as a non-Force users has no way to counter that attack. This is the same for any other power that cannot be countered by a non-Force user. However, almost all of the powers can be used against non-Force users.

K. You are not to create your own Force Powers without the consent of the staff. Creating Force Powers is reserved solely for Independent Force Users.

SECTION V: The Classes/ Rank System

A. In a pre-established faction, everyone starts off at the lowest level unless given special permission from the Faction Leader. The only exception is when you are creating an Independent Faction, in which case you would start off as the leader.

B. If you ask for a rank without proper reason you will not receive it.

C. You must follow the restrictions of each rank. If this is ignored, the Faction Leader may decide to demote you in rank.

D. Asking for special ranks (I.e. Jedi Guardian, Jedi Consular, Jedi Sentinel, etc.) is allowed.

SECTION VI: Fleets and Militaries

A. All Independent Fleets must be applied for and it must be very small. The Independent Faction Moderator will review your fleet, as well as your entire Independent Faction, and either approve or deny it. This also applies to any forces that are sold by an organization to someone else. If an organization wants to sell forces to someone else, either the organization or the customer has to request the forces being sold.

B. Independent fleets and militaries should be limited to very small numbers and gradually built up over time. You may request more troops when you acquire more territory, become affiliated with a planet or win a battle. Once this has happened, please send a request to the staff. Keep in mind that your armies and fleets should still remain small.

C. No one may posses a Superweapon of any kind which includes, but is not limited to, Death Stars, Superlasers (unless they are some sort of ground based Ion Canon), Sun Crushers, Galaxy Guns, Darksabers, etc. Large scale explosives may be used on vessels.

D. No one can completely destroy or cause massive destruction on a planet. The extent of the damage caused to a planet, generally by orbital bombardment, would be the destruction of someone’s facility or the destruction of a city. Occasional shelling of civilian population centers is allowed, so long as it is cleared by the Staff. There will be absolutely no Base Delta Zero operations or anything similar to them.
D.1. Base Delta Zero is the Imperial Codename for what is often referred to as “burning off” a world. As described in the Imperial sourcebook, “it is the systematic and complete destruction of all ‘assets’ of production, including factories, arable land, mines, fisheries, droids and sentient beings.” This operation has been referred to as reducing “a civilized world to slag”, reducing “a planet’s surface to smoking debris in a matter of hours”, and “the Imperial code order to destroy all population centers and resources, including industry, natural resources and cities”. The timeframe is known to be less than a day, although it is not known how much less.
EXAMPLE: Taris in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

G. Keep fleets and militaries reasonable. This rule applies to all factions, whether they are pre-established or Independent. No independent faction should have a large fleet and all pre-established factions must role-play how they built up their fleet and specify it in a thread saying what forces it has.

SECTION VII: Independent Factions

A. If you wish to create your own Independent Faction, you must explain it’s purposes, beliefs, etc. Click this link (link coming soon) to review the Independent Faction Guidelines. They are the same for all Independent Factions, regardless of their category.

B. All Independent Factions are able to find their place in one of the following categories: Independent Light Side Factions, Neutral Independent Factions, Independent Bounty Hunter Factions, Independent Mercenary Factions, Other Independent Factions.

C. All Independent Factions must be approved by the Independent Faction Moderator before they can begin being role-played in the Story board.

D. Please see SECTION VI when you are ready to build your forces

SECTION VIII: Wars and Battles

A. The Role-Play Administrators will moderate the war and be tasked with updating the “Current War Status” threads. They will also dictate all problems and diversions in the war, though it will be done in a reasonable fashion in a reasonable time frame. Problems such as diseases, raids and other obstacles will be presented to factions throughout the war without notice and at any times. Some of these events may cause chain reactions to happen. For example, food rations may be cut, leading to soldiers rebelling against their superiors.

B. All factions will be able to participate in the war and should make a great effort to always be included in one way or another. Independent factions are just as important as the major factions and it is recommended that they try to get a bigger role in the war in an effort to where they could possible affect the outcome.

C. Battles might not always be planned in the war. They may happen spontaneously and this is encouraged as this is a free-form Role-Play site. This also allows the Role-Play to stay fresh and original. For example, in a war that pits the Galactic Republic against the Alsakan Union, three Republic soldiers are in a thread by themselves and two Alsakans come by and they begin to fight. In an effort to reduce the amount of problems during this small, minor conflict, one member of the fight will contact a Role-Play Administrator so the battle can be moderated effectively.

D. There is a large process that Faction Leaders must go through when it comes to launching a major battle. Faction Leaders are not required to request battles, but in an effort to limit the headaches for the members of the staff and the members of the community, the process for arranging a battle is as such: first, the Faction Leader will contact a staff battle moderator and say who they are planning to attack, where they are planning to attack and a brief description of how they are going to attack. The staff battle moderator cannot refuse this initial part. What the battle moderator will need to actually approve is the number of forces on both sides of the battle, the type of forces on both sides of the battle and the battle plan itself. Once the number of forces for both sides of the battle are approved and posted publicly by the battle moderator, they cannot be changed. As said, battle moderators cannot say ‘no’ to a battle taking place. They will, however, approve how the battle will take place. This is due to the fact that if a battle moderator was to say that a battle could not take place, not only would they be slowing things down in the Role-Play but they would also be throwing a wrench into the plans of the faction.

E. Though this is completely common sense, you must have an opponent to role-play the defenses.

F. A Current War Status thread will be available for viewing by all members and will be updated by the staff battle moderators. This thread states what battles have been fought, where battles have been fought and links to the battles. It will also say which factions are allied, which factions oppose each other, etc. The staff battle moderators will always keep an eye on who is attacking who and how (see Section VIII, Part D) to ensure that attacking factions do not have an unrealistic number of forces.

G. The purpose of the war is to create interest in the Role-Play, so it is requested that you do not take it too seriously. No member or faction can be the ultimate winner and everyone is expected to follow the Rules and Guidelines of the Role-Play
