BKA: Fiyori Senay for killing Caedyn Miller. The whole scene was a neat twist on the kind of duel that we've seen a few times in SOTF, and it did a good job of capturing Fiyori's capriciousness that she introduced the idea in the first place and anticipated Caedyn's twisting of the rules while Fiyori herself was playing by her own rules the whole time. BDA: Randomness for the death of Jordan Green. Jordan spent his whole game struggling against aimlessness and hopelessness, and to see him finally give in to it once he's lost his only companion was a very fitting end to his story. I liked that he stayed uncertain about what he was going to do right up to the end, adding a little element of surprise as to whether this was really going to be a death post or not. |

Voting for BKA and BDA. Fiyori Senay for BKA, her scene had the sharpest, most concise and interesting characterization. Sort of like a strong pay off for a lot of what she's been building up to, and I especially like that she borrowed a bit of Caedyn's prose style, it made the death/kill feel more cohesive. And for BDA I'm going to vote for Clarice Halwood. Lot of deaths that were similar when I read through them, sort of a final regret/surrender sorta deal. And they were all really good but Clarice had the edge out because she had slightly cleaner prose, and because she had the unique angle of the camera, a callback to boot. |

Best Kill Award: I'm voting for Matthew Moradi for killing Serena Waters. I really liked these two characters, and their fight was awesome. It was a long, brutal fight between two well written characters that had plenty of drama to it. I like that it wasn't an easy kill for Matt, and I like that Serena proved how hard it was for her to go down. I think it was a cool death to lead us into the final 10, and I'd love to see if Matt winning the weapon will lead to interesting scenes on Day 11. We'll see. Best Death Award Ugh, you guys made it so hard to vote this month. Too many good deaths, right at the end. Granted, that's how it should be, but that doesn't make this easy for me. This month, my vote goes to Namira for the death of Vincenzo/a Gatti. I love this character. Namira did such a good job writing this person, and they had such an interesting story. Their end is absolutely heartbreaking, but also feels natural. Vincenza had such a lousy time on the island, and seeing all these people close to them die was so hard to put them through, especially having it all listed out. I do like that Enzo's choice feels natural after everything that did happen to them, but also reminds us of what Vinny left behind in Kingman. It's a troubling death and a perfect end to such a unique and wonderful character. |

I'd just like to say there were some really stellar deaths all around this time, and everyone should feel chuffed with themselves. It was a tough choice! For Best Kill Award, I'm voting Min-Jae Parker for killing Jonathan Gulley. This whole scene was a wonderful mix of sadness and tension, as these two desperate young men went absolutely feral on each other. I do love it when deaths aren't quick and clean, but rather you get all the violence and hatred this sort of situation should evoke. It was all very well choreographed, and the juxtaposition of the two's mentalities worked well. For Best Death Award, I'll give it to Courtography for the death of Keith Bauer. Again, there were some really great deaths here, but I feel that Courtney did the best job with Keith in such a brief post. The careful crafting of the scene, the little details like the bloody fingerprint on his glasses, the open wound and the flies eating away at it, made for a depressing, evocative death. |

BKA Matthew, for killing Serena That was intense! I mean, so was Min-Jae's kill scene, but Min-Jae already won (uncontested even!) the last month's BKA so I felt it would be more due if we share the love a bit. Either way, very enjoyable to read, in that sick and twisted sense SotF is "Enjoyable". BDA Namira, for the death of Enzo Enzo, no ;~; Ah, what makes a good death. A good death is one that moves you to feel something, or to think. In Enzo's case, I felt a lot - a lot of tears swelling up, ladies and gentlemen. In fact, you have to remind me at some point that I need to add this death to the appropriate TV Tropes page. |

Well, finally got around to running through the V6 contest entries to vote. Normally I prefer to be fully familiar with a character, but this time I'm just going off the scenes as linked. BKA: Matthew Moradi What impresses me most about Matthew's kill scene is the quiet confidence surrounding it. The narrative is quick and punchy, and Privyet knows both when to keep things contained and when to let them branch out a little bit. It's not the sort of faux-minimalism I've complained about in the past, where important information is neglected, but rather a more traditional (and successful) take on the concept, where emphasis is added and focused with clear consideration. This is true from the very opening link as Matthew enters the thread; the link is just a part of the narrative text. A few of the bits I especially enjoyed: "She had always had the right to kill him. Only now was she taking it." This is a simple articulation of an island truth that I think is commonly missed, and almost as commonly belabored. Here, it's a fact. That's all it has to be for this scene. "Trying to make as little noise as possible, he ducked out from behind the doorway and raised his shotgun to meet the general direction she was approaching from. Fire, pump. Fire, pump. He shouted before ducking back inside, continuing to yell." A good example of how to progress action in a short space, because it includes everything it has to. It sets the scene clearly (we know what Matt's doing, where he's doing it, and roughly how long it takes), while at the same time leaving the results open--this could have easily been a kill post in another thread. "Hundreds of thousands of years ago, maybe something like this might have happened. Today - well, most people wouldn't even imagine something like this going on. Not for something as simple and understandable as survival. The simplicity of it, really, robbed it of the virtue of being understood. In the 21st century? This?" Here's a point that's given a little more focus... and deserves it, I think, due to its novelty. It's a great thought. So, yeah, color me thoroughly impressed with my first encounter with a character I didn't really know anything about. BDA: Vincenzo/a Gatti It seems the game has hit a stage where a lot of characters are ending their stories either through accident or choice. What makes Enzo stand out positively against that backdrop, for me, is the cleanness of the sell. If a character makes it this far and then suddenly decides that they're done, I'm of course quite curious as to why. Enzo spells it all out, to the cameras no less, but manages to keep it in-character. Enzo now is recognizably the Enzo of Pregame, and it's the desire to remain so that prompts their final bow. Even the composition of the post works in its favor. It moves from narrative into a stream of dialogue, which puts Enzo clearly in the driver's seat. Then, right at the end, when there's the slightest worry that it all might be a little too clean and controlled, the scene pulls back, and the final sentence brings in two words that change the aspect without getting too obvious: "frantic" and "muffled." It's a great post that's both a conclusion to and celebration of the character, and for that it gets my vote. |
