Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

Welcome to the ninth round of V6's Best Kill and Best Death Award contest voting! We start off with a reminder of the rules:

Quote:

Votes will remain hidden until the voting is done.

Votes are made anonymously, so you'll need to log out of your account and post as a guest.

You may not vote for yourself for either award.

Votes must come with reasoning, or they will not be counted.

As a reminder on points of courtesy: please be sure to read every kill and death before voting, please vote for your genuine favorites rather than just voting for your friends, and please don't campaign for awards in the chat or otherwise try to influence the vote. Additionally, please do not use formatting which might make it unclear what your vote is, as this could lead to inaccurate results.

BEST KILL AWARD:
Due to Min-jae Parker killing Brendan Harte being the only kill eligible for the BKA, Min-jae wins by default, and voting for BKA is unnecessary.

BEST DEATH AWARD:
Ruggahissy for the death of Hazel Jung
Primrosette for the death of Brendan Harte
VoltTurtle for the death of Penelope Fitzgerald
backslash for the death of Raina Rose
Riki for the death of Johnny McKay
Iceblock for the death of Melanie Beckett
Bunny for the death of Dorothy Shelley
MK Kilmarnock for the death of Coleen Reagan

Voting will run for five days, with the winners being declared in the following announcement.

BDA

MK Kilmarnock, for the death of Coleen Reagan

Tough choice this month. I'd like to make a shot-out to backslash for killing Raina (which shook me despite being told beforehand) and Dorothy's unfortunate breadcident.

Regardless of that, Coleen's final posts were a fine example of MK Kilmarnock's writing. The prose weaved in an amazing tension which wrapped it's way around the action in the fight between Coleen and Al. Her heroic second wind, combined with her ultimate post were inspiring and awe-strucking. Good thing this death got in just for the deadline.

BKA: Jin-Mae Karper

BDA: Dot

The formatting. The simple idea of choking on bread.

It's art.

Its reference to The Binding of Isaac just won my heart.

MY BDA VOTE GOES TO MELANIE BECKETT FOR TODAY. ALL THREE UNROLLED DEATHS WERE ONES THAT TOOK ME OFF GUARD, AND ULTIMATELY, UPON THINKING ABOUT IT, I FELT LIKE JOHNNY AND MELANIE WERE THE TOP TWO CANDIDATES. OUT OF THOSE TWO, I FELT LIKE THE LATTER WAS THE ONE I WANTED TO VOTE FOR, BECAUSE NOT ONLY DID IT FEEL LIKE THE RIGHTFUL TIME FOR MELANIE TO END HER STORY, IT ALSO FELT LIKE A GOOD WAY FOR HER TO END HER STORY, AND ONE THAT WOULD LIKELY HAVE A LOT MORE IMPACT UPON THE ISLAND.

Note: If you format votes like this in the future, they will probably be disqualified.

Best Death Award: Well, this is an interesting month. I've looked the scenes over, and I've decided to give BDA to MK Kilmarnock for the death of Coleen Reagan. It's a recent one, but it's a good one. Coleen was one of my favorite kids in V6, and she had a really good arc. Her death was a brutal scene, once that made me wince just from reading it. I am glad Coleen did get to have some peace at the end, thinking of Peyote Coyote and discussing a pretty brutal sounding play. I think it's all very appropriate for her and her story, so I'm glad this is how her story came to a close. Good job!

I refuse to vote for BKA

But yeah the Min-jae kill was solid. Jae's negative emotional connection to Brendan has always been interesting in it's vehement arbitrary nature, reflects on Jae's character very well as a whole. There's actually this kind of interesting ability backslash shows off where she has the capacity to make her kills as Jae... sort of like, not steal the narrative momentum from the deceased. I think it's because he's a very internally driven character, with particularly brusque and to the point thoughts and emotions. Still poignant and powerful, but paced in such a way that Jae sort of quietly and cleanly slips into and out of scenes. It's really good stuff, from an OOC perspective as well. Makes the kills about the people killed while still giving us enough Jae characterization and internal narrative to thrive upon.

I vote Penelope for BDA. Close one, there were a bunch of fascinatingly novel and powerfully written deaths this cycle. Penelope edges them out on being strongly internally consistent within the scene, it felt like a smooth de-evolving from Dorothy stab to death. Raina and Johnny both play their parts more or less perfectly, it's seamless from post to post almost, kudos to the whole squad for that. Turtle managed to make the death unique (and fairly realistic in a sense so bonus points) and eye catching, I definitely did not see it coming. Good emotive cues for people who are into that sort of thing, it doesn't suffer for the novelty of the idea at all, I think it was executed quite well.

BDA: Ruggahissy for the death of Hazel Jung

Watching Hazel try and cling on to hope for so long even after she and Jordan lost so many people was rough. To see her reach such a point of despair in slapping Min-Jae and then lose her life over it was heartbreaking. Her running away from Jordan and Min-Jae so neither of them had to watch her die caught me right in the feels. Heart shattered. Props to Rugga and all involved for making me cry <3
