Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

Best Kill Award and Best Death Award go to the same scene for me this month. I would like the scene of Matt Moradi killing Aiden Slattery to win the prizes this month. I think this is a cool scene. I love how the Bell Tower has been used this game, and this was a great use of it. Matt surprising Aiden at the top, bludgeoning him, and then Aiden falling to the bottom and breaking his legs was quick, brutal, but strikingly effective. I've really enjoyed where Matt and Aiden have been going this game, and this was such a cool scene. I really like what is to come from this regarding Matt, Serena, Melanie, and the jeep, so I want this scene to win Best Kill and Best Death.

Best Kill: Matthew Moradi for killing Aiden Slattery. I liked the culmination of Matt's descent into villainy this round and how things are starting to spiral out of his control despite how smart and cautious he tries to be. His kill of Aiden in particular was cold-blooded, well-written, and leads into a scene which is still developing and I'm really looking forward to how things turn out. Plus it would amuse me to give him another weapon after he went to all the trouble of mugging someone for theirs.

Best Death: D/N for the death of Aiden Slattery. D/N is really skilled at packing a ton of characterization into each post, especially when it comes time to write deaths, and Aiden did not disappoint. The reflections on his life contrast really nicely with his struggle to even speak and the surprise gruesomeness of his injuries before he dies and once again I'm really excited for what this death sets up in addition to the merits it already has.

BKA - Matt killing Aiden

Well, Matt's the newest serial killer, so terrorists have to encourage him. His attitude is simply rad and Aiden's kill especially was rad, because Matt made Aiden jump off the tower. Rad.

BDA - Ben

Ben was a great character and that death post just had feels. Last sentence was. It just...wasn't.

deaths and kills and stuff.

BKA I will give to Matt Moradi for his murder of Ben Lichter, which wins out over all other kills including another one of his because Priv strikes a very delicate and impressive balance between provocative and technical language that is still tightly paced and manages the flow of the scene well. The back and forth isn't entirely executed to my satisfaction but I think it's quite excellent all the same. Matt's character manages to pivot but in a direction that makes sense and creates excitement for the future of his character, for me.

And BDA I will give to Ben Lichter. For being killed by Matt Moradi, etc. This scene in general was well carried by both handlers and I give it bonus points that tip both participants in both categories over for having a synergy of writing styles that creates an interesting and easy to follow ebb-and-flow between their posts. Ben's death is short and sweet, just in character enough to awkwardly meander and wander as I'd expect, and it hits all the juicy points at the end that make it satisfying tonally to the end of a very odd and interesting island journey.

Just over 12 hours for votes!
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."
