The lone building stands in the middle of an expanse of grass, the sky stuck eternally in sunset. The red of the sky is bright, but not blinding, and almost appears to guide those that find themselves in this place to the aforementioned building.

The structure itself is reminiscent of a luxury hotel, or even a resort, and a grand entrance invites guests into a rather spacious lobby.

Inside the building, it's clear that the building is much larger on the inside than it is on the outside. Every conceivable facility has been set up in the building, and yet oddly none of the services are more than a short hallway or a set of stairs away. Various employees run said services, and all of them are so inconspicuous as to be invisible. On the third floor there are rooms, 107 in total, which each contain a bed, a sofa, and even a personal TV.

The bar on the first floor is staffed by probably the only noteworthy person in the entire building. She is a young-looking woman, no older than 30, surely. Behind her, a rack that stretches the entire wall, stocked with every conceivable drink and food item imaginable... somehow.

Opposite the bar there is a game room, with various pool tables, arcade machines, and even couches arranged in semi-circles around small setups for those that fancy themselves console gamers. On the far wall, there are 107 monitors arranged in as close to a rectangle as possible (107 is a prime number, after all). Each of those monitors show the time of each of the victims of the sixth version of Survival of the Fittest. In front of the TVs there are more couches so that those wishing to see the fates of friends, siblings, or enemies can do so comfortably.

When those poor souls inevitably arrive, not a trace of their time on the island visible anywhere on their bodies, the resort will be ready to welcome them. To keep them entertained, to let them rest and recuperate, and to let them make peace with others... or themselves... until the end after the end beckons them.

They will go on their own terms, but everyone chooses to leave... eventually.

((OOC: V6 Afterlife thread is this thread. No posting order here, no sir.))
Let's show that private threads still aren't necessary! I pledge not to start any private threads on the island in V6. If I started a thread in-game, you are welcome to join it.

In the past...

In the future...

Something or another began or ended, or whatever could be interpreted in the more apparently meaningful fashion

Smoke trailed contrails along the parallels that formed three dimensions, dimensions that folded like paper sheaves and became the air she breathed in no dimensions. In so many words pretentious Tina felt the collapsed scaffolding of her throat become the skyscrapers of the yesteryears and tomorrows she hadn't been born in time for, as they liked to say: not born in time to explore the world or universe, but born in the time to explore... the emotional throughput offered up to her like a slightly balded head of a Saint on a platter in the smoke and wine soused backroom. Emotions were hors d'oeuvres on the grubby fingers of children who'd yet to experience emotions in full, the full compliment of the words beyond their flailing and grasping reach, like-

Tina coughed.

Her head felt clear. First time in years maybe.

Fucking odd her head had been like that the last whatever years of her life. Ex-life.

So she was dead then. Okay.

Expansive facilities. Better presentation than she'd had back home. Wall-to-wall, dense, heavy on the eyes. She wasn't so inclined to engage herself. She watched some television instead, casually slouched against the rigid pillar of a couch by her elbows.

She watched herself die. She didn't particularly care.

Cough.

And so her lungs were the burlap sacks of poormen, highwaymen, the sort of persona non grata abused and accepting of abuse for lack of repose otherwise. Crushed without hand or pressure save the feather light bubbles of tar and feather and-

Tina cleared her throat with a gritty growl.

Fucking enough of that. She looked around for something else to watch or otherwise pay attention to.

It was sort of like that moment when you drive out of range of a radio station, the few minutes of static and garbled noise before another signal comes into focus.

That was what it felt like to Cristo when he blinked, and realized that he wasn't flat on his back on a concrete floor, but sprawled on some cushy sofa.

He sat up quickly, got the usual rush of dizziness from doing so, and gingerly prodded his side, just underneath his ribs. Everything was intact, as it should have been... was it how it should have been?

He pretty distinctly remembered getting stabbed, was the issue here.

The other issue here was, uh... the issue of here, actually. In that Cristóbal had no earthly idea where "here" was. He had stayed at a pretty nice hotel once, when the baseball team went to state. This place, as he glanced around, seemed several orders of magnitude nicer. Way out of Cochise's budget. Also the class trip was a day trip, no hotels included.

...

Cristo gingerly lifted his shirt, and confirmed that there was indeed no stab wound there. Not even a scar. So that was... good? In general, he liked not having major injuries on his body, especially those that led to a lot of blood and crying and, uh... dying? Dying had seemed pretty imminent.

God, he hoped Abby was okay.

A quiet cough drew his attention, and Cristo realized for the first time that he wasn't alone. The good news was, his company was recognizable and generally classified as civil, if not friendly, in his book. The bad news was, that probably meant Tina was dead or something too.

"Um," he said, throwing out the traditional Cristóbal greeting for people who didn't quite rank as friends.
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."

If she was thinking things through, she'd have a lot of questions about this. This wasn't what she figured Heaven would look like, and she didn't expect to just wake up there. There didn't seem to be any angels, or any clouds, or passed family members waiting to be reunited. Instead, it looked a lot like a resort, and if she was thinking more clearly that might be something to plop down and think about.

Instead, she was running as fast as she could towards the boy on the couch who looked a lot like Cristo. It was Cristo, definitely, he didn't just look like him. She didn't care if she was dreaming or dead or hallucinating or whatever, because after all this she just wanted to enjoy what was happening for a little bit. She flew into him and wrapped her arms tighter around him than she ever had before. They crashed into the back of the couch with her tear-stained face buried into his chest. "You're okay, thank God you're okay, you're okay..."

"Oof!" Tina didn't get a chance to answer before Cristo was struck by Hurricane Abby and pinned back against the couch. He immediately set to patting her on the back out of instinct and habit. "Hey, don't cry, I'm fine... also I can't breathe..."

Was he still breathing? It felt like he was still breathing, or had been a moment ago. He hadn't ever considered whether you might continue to breathe in... Heaven? Purgatory? Surely Abby of all people wouldn't be consigned to purgatory, she'd go straight to Heaven if-

Wait, no. No no no no, had Kimiko-? She wouldn't have. She couldn't have.

Then again, a day or so ago (Had it been just a day? Longer? Did time exist in this place?) Cristo would have been fairly confident that most of his classmates wouldn't go around stabbing anyone.

Fear did things to people. It had kept him quiet for most of his life. It had ended his life, as far as he could tell. And Abby...

Well, she was here.

Cristóbal pressed his face into Abby's shoulder and tried not to think too hard about it.

She'd heard the cough, hadn't been able to think a response in time. Bit slow to the draw.

'Also I can't breathe...'

Good point. The coughing was second nature, but did Tina still need to? She made a number of disgusting noises to herself, under her breath. A fist over her mouth that she hocked and hacked into. No, no apparent need to cough.

Cough.

It was a picturesque scene. Youthful, innocent, emotive, that sort of thing. Beautiful staging for a beautiful cast. Hence Tina's being out of frame. Something something the expanse of the wide lens something something shying away from a particular genesis anti-photogenic, so on. She watched them intently for maybe a second before remembering that was inappropriate. Awkward, impolite, creepy, words her Mom had used. She turned away.

Turns out Lily had been there the whole time she'd been dying. Tina certainly hadn't expected that.

Suddenly she wanted to say something. She didn't know what, nor for that matter how. Her vocal chords were hardly well worn, or even adequate.

"..."

She murmured something under her breath, eyes awkwardly looking for something to look at.

((Obligatory.))

Sara Corlett emerged from the elevator into the lobby.

It had been a few days since she came down. It's not like she had any reason to, besides getting more alcohol. Being dead for as long as she had, all of her friends were long since gone. The only company she had were the ghostly staff of the place, who barely talked even when she tried her damnedest to get them to. Every day that passed she considered leaving far more strongly, what with the old movies she had available to watch starting to run low, and her imagination only getting her so far when she spent what felt like centuries constantly awake in a hotel with barely anything to stimulate her.

What she would do for a good book right about now.

Sara downed the last bits of the bottle of vodka she was holding, before tossing it in a bin and groggily looking around the lobby. Employees walking around as if they were actually busy, like normal.

Her eyes scanned over the place as she walked towards the bar to get a few drinks, only to stop in her tracks when she saw a few teenagers on one of the couches.

She knew how this place worked. She had been alone, as far as she knew, for a really long time. New people meant only one thing.

It happened again.

Sara started moving over towards the new arrivals awkwardly waving her hand in the air to get their attention. She was just as socially inept as she was even before she died, being seventeen for several years having completely stunted any mental growth she could have achieved.

Hurrying over, Sara finally got up to the couch, pausing for a second to search for words before speaking.

"So uh... sorry to interrupt your happy reunion I guess, but... it's been a really long time since I've seen any real people in here. Did... did you guys get kidnapped during a class trip too?"

Something to awkwardly look at. Skin the pale reflection of television pixels, dimly blue eyes likewise the rolling of film stock into the wasted passage of time. Her body delineated for a moment, a vague shadow that existed in the five senses as a blur before the trepidation of carefully languid eyes slid towards the room's couch, yet actually unused by the approximate flesh of man 'til that moment.

The girl had set the air to motion with a quick back and forth of a friendly gesture, perhaps friendly at least, but Tina hadn't the time to respond.

She made do with what was still left in the two rusty, smelly cogs worth of her short term memory. She nodded.

Elsewhere a million stumbles worth of miles away Tina remembered she had a voice. It was the creak of a tightly locked, cobwebbed safe. Slowly pried open through concerted effort.

"Yeah. Cochise 2015."

...

Eternity was encapsulated in a seconds worth of the phlegm in Tina's throat corroding away with a heftily pathetic cough.

"The windows on the bus... wrong. Artificially sealed... I noticed it. Didn't say anything."

It was an announcement without purpose or a recollection without moral.

"You said you were in some kind of pacifist group?"

Lili smiled and nodded, sinking back into the couch, shoveling some more popcorn into her mouth as she watched the screen. What was once the site of a failed quiet revolution was now once again being torn to shreds by gunfire. This time, though, it wasn't just one lone assailant. The whole room was enveloped in a kerfuffle the likes of which she had never seen, a mishap so large that a word like skirmish just wouldn't do. She was sure that there was some term, something clever and two words long, that would fit what was going on in that room just nicely.

Shit-show. Yeah, that was it.

"I think I can see some kind of scraps of paper in the corner over there," her company added on, pointing to one of the other screens showing the fight. When Lili had first found herself in the resort, one of the first people to greet her was this boy here, who introduced himself by saying that he had happened to catch the end of her feed. With some careful word choice and delicate phrasing, he explained to Lili that he had initially watching the feed of one of the corpses on the chapel floor - Coleen, he said her name was - because he was close to her in his waking life. Lili teased him and suggested that the two were in love, which he adamantly denied. Said that she never thought of him that way, and that the connection he perceived seemed more like one between - the one misstep in his otherwise purposeful word choice - a knight and his ward. Lili laughed at him, even more when he said his name was Arthur.

Like King Arthur? she had asked.

I pulled a spear out of a guy's body at one point, he added glumly.

One laughing fit on Lili's part later, the two decided to go over to watch the rest of the game. Carefully walking around an awkward confrontation in the lobby, they found their way into the game-room and picked a monitor that looked lively. Once that one ended, they found another, and another, until eventually they wound up watching the confrontation on screen just now.

Neither of them were too inclined to spend time with anyone they knew personally, at the moment.

"Did getting shot hurt?" Lili asked, watching one girl get grazed by a bullet, "because like, I don't know how that feels really, I mean, in a way that didn't completely kill you, y'know?"

"It kinda sucked," Arthur replied, sipping an orange soda, "but to tell you the truth, it's kind of hard to remember." Lili nodded in agreement, crossing her legs, as the gunfight quieted down for a moment.

"You shoulda just stabbed him."

"I know."

"I mean, like, seriously, it would've saved us both some trouble."

"I know."

The conversation continued, the sound of voices drowning out the sound of gunfire on screen.

((WHAT'S GOOD KIDDOS))

Caedyn frowned up at the few remaining lit screens from her sprawled out position on the couch. "Ugh. Pleeeeaaaase shoot Jae in his stupid cunt face, Fi. I almost couldn't be mad about you killing me anymore if you pull that off." Probably wasn't happening, though. From the look of things she was on the run while Alba played the big brave hero. Ja, it must be nice to have a meatshield. It was nice when she had a meatshield. If she saw Oskar around here somewhere she was gonna rant at him until he killed himself a second time.

Nobody else here was of any interest to her. Some girl she didn't know was grilling people for information but it was kinda...fucking duh, yeah, what do you think's going on? From the look of it they all had their own screen so she should have figured that out. If Caedyn had to place a bet she'd figure her for one of the who walked up on the wrong person or threw themselves off a roof or something in the first couple of days. Nobody here seemed like they had the guts to actually make it that far unless they were really, really lucky.

Why the fuck was she stuck here with them?

She'd been great. Kimiko had gotten the drop on her that one time, but that was it. If it hadn't been two on one on top of Fi getting so, so crazy lucky, she'd be the one out there shooting Jae in the face while Fi and Alba tried to figure this place out. It just wasn't fair. Did everybody end up here? Or was it a sorting hat kinda scene where everybody got lumped into arbitrary groups? Like Oskar, or Bridgette, or Cass, or Jeremy.

Or Jasmine.

Caedyn wasn't sure how to feel about that one.

The thought was shoved out of her head as her eyes flicked over to focus on Alba's screen. "God I hope they leave you bleeding out," she mumbled grumpily to herself.

Lili's attention wandered over to someone else nearby. A rather vocal commentator on the current firefight, she had been saying things as if she had personal ties to some of the people on screen. Lili felt somewhat uncomfortable with her presence so close, the possibility of her wandering over and spoiling the peaceful moment she had cooked up with Arthur, but keeping her at a distance and eavesdropping on her monologue was entertainment enough. The lull in the firefight had gone on for a decent amount of time, and the silence was beginning to feel more and more uncomfortable.

Arthur, meanwhile, had his eyes and ears peeled to the screen, unable to take his eyes off of the dying body of his friend Alba. He wasn't altogether able to understand if their encounter in the Gym was enough to make them friends, but he felt that the both of them witnessing what happened with Bradley and Kimiko brought them together in a way that only they could understand. Maybe it wasn't the same for her, or Bryony - still running around on one of the other screens - or even to Coleen, but at the very least he understood the solidarity. To see Alba bleeding to death at the hands of the same aggressor made him want to scream, kick the screen in, to do something, but instead he internalized it and sat silently. It was just as Lili said - everything would be better off if he did something.

"God I hope they leave you bleeding out."

That was too much for him to take.

To Lili's surprise, Arthur stood up, apparently listening to the other girl's words the entire time. Indeed, he turned to face her directly, a quiet rage unfolding on his face.

The feeling carried him to his feet before he even knew what words he was going to say.

"You," he started, "how dare - why - she is so - I knew her!"

Lili really couldn't believe her eyes. He hadn't shown any indication of being so emotional during their conversation about their lives, and he didn't bat an eye at her whole Spiderland business. She had gotten the read that maybe part of him had bled out on the island and stayed there, and that she was talking to some kind of husk, but his emotional outburst now told her otherwise. Had she forgotten that quiet, reserved people existed? She herself was reserved, if not somewhat bubbly, before the ordeal. Looking back on it, she had gone somewhat insane. It was Arthur's time to shine now. She'd let him get it all out of his system, while he was dead and had time to get his feelings sorted.

So why was she tugging his arm down and shouting at him to stop?

Before she could answer that question, however, three of the remaining screens erupted in a brilliant flash of light and noise.

Caedyn's gaze turned slowly from the screens to the quivering boy to her side. Even as the light from the screens lit up her face she looked completely disinterested. One long, slow blink was the only movement he got out of her at first. She let the silence, and his impotent rage, hang between them for a few moments before she spoke. "We all knew her, dumbass. We went to the same school. You aren't special. What, were you stalking her or something? You kinda seem like the type."

And then her gaze was back on the screens with a dismissive wave. "Fuck off with all the white knight bullshit. We're dead. You can't do anything to me. Even if we weren't..." She glanced at him in the corner of her vision and laughed a little. "Yeah, no." Caedyn brushed a hair out of her face and gave her full attention back to the screens, seeming to forget anyone else was there anymore\

Arthur let Caedyn's words sink in for a moment. It was a struggle to remind himself that, even though what happened on the screen just actually happened, and even though he knew better, everyone was something different to everyone else, even in death. His rage subsided, if only briefly, but enough to return some level of calm to him.

"I don't exactly know," Arthur continued, "if you spent your time trying to save people's lives while they had been impaled all the way through with a goddamn spear, or if you went out like that, but unless you did, then I don't know what you're trying to accomplish here, by talking about her in that way, other than making yourself feel better."

The explosion on screen had done nothing to shake Arthur's focus, but Lili had become entranced by the screen again. Letting go of Arthur's arm, her gaze returned to the screens. Of the four screens that caught the explosion, two were left, though one was actively trying to convince the other that it was dead. Lili decided she liked this Fiyori girl, who was kicking around corpse heads and pulling truces out of nowhere. She was definitely in the grade above, though. That must be why she didn't altogether recognize her. Was there anyone left she did recognize? Lili looked at the other screens, and put a finger to her lip.

"Disagree," she said, at Arthur's last word, "nope, but that's just kind of, fucking, we spent the last few hours doin' a goddamn rifftrax on these people's lives and you're gonna call her out for doing her thing?"

She offered him the popcorn.

"Just take a seat," she said, "there are people left alive, still."

"Fiyori shot me while Alba held me at gun point," Caedyn stated dryly without looking away. "So you can take that moral outrage and shove it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up your butthole, big guy."

Lili's commentary did get her to smirk and turn her head though, without acknowledging Arthur. "You, though. I like you. You get it." She put her hands behind her head and stared at Fiyori's screen, waiting for Jae's response. "And I like this. I'd rather she shot him in his cunt face, but she's probably still gonna. She tricked me too."

There was something comfortable about this whole thing. She didn't feel the need to justify herself or play games or manipulate anybody. There wasn't anything else to lose or gain anymore. She'd bit it, and it turned out what was waiting for her was pretty chill regardless of everything that'd happened. So why get anymore worked up? Sure, she was anxious. Sure, she had questions. But right now she might as well have some snacks and watch what was left of her classmates murder each other. Even if she had anyone left down there that she really cared about, they were just gonna wind up here anyway, and that was better than being down here. That thought coupled with Kimiko's dead body in the corner of the screen made her grimace and let out a groan.

"Ugh, I hope that bitch isn't coming up here too. Killed my girlfriend. Talk about awkward."

Arthur couldn't find the words for a retort. Both Lili and Caedyn were against him, here, and he was sandwiched between two dissenting voices. Instead, he sat down in a huff, gazing at the screen just as Fiyori left Min-Jae behind. He wasn't all too sure that he'd make it - he looked incredibly rough around the edges, like he was barely holding on to life - but judging from how far he had managed to get he figured that he had at least enough to make it a little further on.

He thought about muttering something about Kimiko murdering someone right in front of him, but decided that it wasn't worth the trouble of another scolding.

Lili found the other girl's compliments somewhat confusing. She wasn't exactly taking her side here, was she? That wasn't what she was trying to do at all. Arthur was just being a bit of a dick, that's all. Still, making friends while dead wasn't the worst thing she could be doing. She could be drinking or looking for smokes, which wasn't altogether the worst, since she was, y'know, dead, but it would probably piss off a lot of people and put everyone in a bad mood.

"Just give her a nasty look," Lili said to Caedyn, "like, surprise! I'm still here! I'm still able to claw your face off!"

"I get the feeling she's the kind of person who may have banked on this not being where she ended up," Arthur added in an effort to be constructive, "so, yeah. Just growl at her. I can do that too, since, I mean, she killed someone in front of me."

"Awww, ain't you special now, Arthur?"

"...I was trying to be relatable."
