Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

(Keith Bauer continued from Helvetica Standard)

Keith had spent the rest of the night inside a storage closet in the asylum. He managed to sleep on and off, but never all that well. It was the only thing he could think of doing. His only ally on the island had been killed and there had been nothing that he could do about it. He felt guilty. He should have refused to keep watch, then Jasmine wouldn't have been able to get the jump on Joshua.

He wasn't sure what to do anymore. He and Joshua had talked about trying to escape, but now that seemed impossible. Not if there were killers lurking around every corner.

He had snuck out of a side door of the asylum shortly after the announcement without anyone seeing him. He needed to be out of there. The basement was flooded and the library had Joshua's dead body inside it. He repeated the name's of the killers he remembered in his head every once in awhile as he walked. Isabel Ramirez, Kimiko Kao, Nancy Kyle, and the killer he had met, Jasmine Reed, were who he could remember. Keith knew there were a few more, but it's not like he had made a list.

As he rounded the corner of the asylum he spotted the small chapel that had been marked on the map. He hadn't been to church in a long time, but he felt so aimless, that maybe a visit to the chapel would give him some direction. He had to cross through a small part of the nearby gardens before reaching the front door.

He tried it once without it budging. It wasn't that surprising since everything he had seen in the asylum suggested the place was pretty old. With a grunt he tried it again, and it started to move.

Finally.

Keith jumped a little in surprise at Sandra clearing her throat. He hadn't heard her sneak up on him. A wave of fear washed over him for a moment, before he dispelled it with a little logic. If she wanted to kill him she would have just attacked him instead of passive-aggressively clearing her throat.

"Just a sec."

He pushed on the door more, before he heard what sounded like cracking inside, and the door finally gave, swinging wide open. He had done it, the darn door had finally opened. That's when he saw Alice Baker sprawled out on the floor. Had he shoved her over with the door? The idea of having hurt someone made his mouth turn dry. "Jesus, shit, are you okay?"

It probably wasn't the right language to be used in a church, but Keith had bigger things to worry about than that.

He let out a sigh of relief after it was revealed that Alice was mostly okay. Or at least, as okay as anyone could be in the circumstances they found themselves in. The thought of escape crossed Keith's mind again, but he still wasn't sure how it could be done with the collars around their necks and under constant surveillance.

He felt a little ashamed though of scaring her. He wished there was a more obvious way of letting people know that he wasn't dangerous, but with people like Jasmine running around, you couldn't be sure about anyone.

"Oh uh, sorry." He looked down at his feet. "Just didn't know what was with the doors."

Things felt very awkward all of a sudden. He wondered what the girls had been planning, but wasn't sure how to ask. There really wasn't any good way to talk about their situation.

He wasn't sure if he should feel guilty about forcing his way into the chapel. Usually a stuck door would have signaled that a place wasn't worth his time, but with everything going on he had felt differently. Then again, Alice had apologized, and said that she had only been trying to keep more dangerous people out. So he was probably fine with no guilt required.

Keith listened to Alice's list of people she'd run into. She seemed nervous, but he supposed they were all nervous at this point.

"I uhh, was with Joshua before, uh, it happened," Keith responded, his voice catching at the end. They had heard the announcements, he hoped that he wouldn't have to explain the rest.

He didn't want to talk about how he'd fucked up.

Keith was surprised to hear that Sandra had encountered Kimiko. He figured that most of the people who had killed at this point had been trying to kill whoever they could. Maybe he was wrong about that. It would make some sense, since Jasmine had let him go. That was different though, Jasmine was obviously deranged, where he wasn't sure if that was the case with the rest.

He found the rest of Sandra's statement about losing people during the announcement strange. "How did that happen? It's just sound."

He was also surprised to find that he felt bad about Alice feeling bad for them. He wasn't trying to stress anyone else out, just sharing information about who he'd been with and seen.

"Hey, uh, don't feel bad, you didn't do it."

He doubted she could either. She was tiny.

Keith wasn't sure if he bought Sandra's explanation of what had happened, but he had never been in a Danger Zone, so he supposed he'd have to take her word for it. He also supposed she didn't have any reason to lie. He was probably just paranoid due to the circumstances and what had happened the night before. That was all it was.

Then Sandra and Alice both announced that they were intending on finding their friends. He wondered what that feeling must be like. Most of his friends hadn't been on the field trip.

"I uh, I'll go with you."

He was surprised he had said it. Alice wasn't his friend. He didn't know her well at all. He just, well, he just didn't want to be alone.

He thought of Joshua.

This time would be different.
