Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

((B10 Noah Whitley: V6 Start))

Noah gripped his hand around the object in his hands. He wasn't very keen towards sports; one season of little league was enough for him to swear off competitive sports forever. Still, he had to know if he could lift this monstrosity and use it like the form said. He had never heard of a sawblade slinger before, and yet here he was, lifting it up and preparing to toss the blade into the wall.

He lifted it up, held it out to his right, then swung it forward. The sawblade was released from the magnet, slid down, then was flung out of the bar. It flew in the air, and found itself embedded in the wall. Noah let out a cry.

"What the fuck? Seriously?" was all he could say.

Noah walked over and tried to pry the blade out of the wall, something he knew he had to be careful with. He had woken up a few minutes ago in what looked like an abandoned dorm room. He was lying on some old mattress, eaten by bugs and worn from the years. Next to him was the bag the fucker behind the game assigned, with a large blunt object lying on it. The paper with it said it was a sawblade slinger, and gave directions for how to use it.

As he struggled to get the blade out of the wall, Noah cursed his situation. He couldn't believe they'd pick his school out of every school for this game. He thought he'd just have fun on some dumb field trip and then go home and enjoy his peaceful day. But now he had to face the possibility of being murdered by a classmate, or being forced to kill. Both options disgusted him, but he knew he needed to be careful. He never watched Survival of the Fittest, but he knew well enough that people would play if given the chance. He wasn't going to kill if he didn't have to, but he needed to be ready. If that meant using some rejected video game weapon, so be it.

Noah finally managed to get the blade out of the wall, letting out some cries for fear of cutting his hands. He placed it back inside the slinger and lifted it up again.

"Okay. Second try," he said.

Noah lifted the slinger, swung it back, then flung it as hard as he could. This time, the whole thing flew out of his hands and against the wall. The blade still dislodged, and flew in the other direction before skittering across the floor. Noah screamed again and moved back. Two tries and he was only successful once. Noah knew the odds, and that made him worried for what would happen if he had to use it for real.

"Oh man, I am so fucked," he muttered.

He rubbed his forehead and groaned. He couldn't be the only person here having this much trouble.

Maria had just experienced the worst nightmare of her life.

((G044 Maria Cucinotta: V6 Start))

And then she had woken up to a far, far worse one.

Her fingers immediately went to her throat, painted fingernails scratching at the black metal that wrapped around her throat. It felt like hours that went by as she scrabbled for purchase in order to pry it away from her neck, but to no avail.

SOTF. She'd heard of it of course, seen various threads and clips on the sketchier parts of the internet, but she'd never payed it any attention. She'd never be in it, no need to give her nightmares by watching some Fucked Up Shit^TM.

The man had said something about supplies, and sure enough, beneath the moth-eared bed she had awoken on, was a bag with 'G044' written on it. She was a number to them, she realised, no more no less. A number that wouldn't make it anywhere without a weapon.

She unzipped the bag and looked through it. Food, a first aid kit, water... And what felt like a cloth covering. Pulling it out, she removed the almost shawl-like covering to find a sword. A long, curved, and when she gave it an experimental swing, very well balanced sword. The note called it a shamshir. If she ever made it out of here she could find out what it was used for originally.

She pulled the cap off of a bottle of water and took a few sips. If she remained calm and level headed, she might be able to get through this. Her hands, which she hadn't noticed had been shaking, had slowly calmed down.

The scream that came next nearly caused her to jump out of her skin, and she immediately held the sword towards the sound. Could people be... 'Playing,' already? The scream sounded masculine though...

She wasn't going to leave some poor soul to die. It might get her killed, but until there was no other way forward but becoming a sociopathic murderer, she was not going to turn into a rabid killer. Slowly, she reached for the door handle, praying that the scream had been from a realisation of the situation, and not some one being dismembered next door.

Noah slouched and let out a groan. The sawblade slinger was going to be an interesting weapon. If he was back home and handed something like it, he could make a joke about how it was used to beat mastodons to death by cavemen. But no, it was his tool for survival. Somehow.

Noah walked over to the bed and picked the slinger up. He then walked over to where the blade fell on the floor. He reached down to pick it up, trying to be very careful, when he let out another cry. He lifted his hand back up. In his attempt to pick the sawblade up, he nicked his finger on the blade. He shook his hand and started to suck on his finger. As the taste of copper filled his mouth, he began to slightly bounce in place.

"Dammit!" he cried out, taking his finger out of his mouth.

There wasn't much blood, but it was still frustrating to be hurt this soon into his Survival of the Fittest experience. Out of frustration, he threw the slinger at the door, letting the large object bounce off the wooden door with a loud bang.

"God, screw this! Screw all of this!" he shouted.

He put his index finger back in his mouth and sucked on it. It hadn't even been ten minutes and Noah was properly peeved.

Not likely to be dismemberment then, which was always good. She vaugley rcognised the voice, and she came to the split des ion that, for now, having another pair of eyes would be a good idea. she banged the hilt of the sword against the wall separating them, and called out "Hey! Coming in, don't... Do whatever it is your thing can do, aight?"

Judging by the cursing, the clattering and the loud noises that did not sound like gunshots, it sounded like the weapon he had was pretty damn complicated, or he was just a moron. Pushing open the door, he gave a soft knock before giving it a weak push from the side. If he tried to get the jump on her he'd have wasted the chance, and she would be in the defensive position.

Fingers crossed the first person she met wouldn't take a potshot at her to lower the competition.

Noah bit down on his finger as he heard a knocking on the door. He pulled his finger out of his mouth and let out a groan through clenched teeth. The person outside, a girl, said they were coming in and to not do "whatever it is your thing can do, aight?"

"Oh, like make an ass of myself?" Noah muttered to himself. "Wait. What am I doing? Cock!"

The girl was starting to push open the door. Noah quickly moved forward and grabbed the slinger off the floor. He didn't have time to put the blade back in, but the slinger looked like it could beat someone bloody. He really didn't want to beat anyone like how Pina Bucket beat homeless men in bum fights, but he wanted to at least make a point at whoever was coming in.

The door opened and Noah saw the girl standing there. She looked poured into her sweater, and it also looked like she had a sword. A long, curved sword. Great. He got the bladed weapon that required precision and luck to use, as well as upper body strength to keep the slinger up. She could just penetrate him until something poured out, like poking a dead raccoon with a stick.

"Uh, yeah," Noah said once the girl saw him, the slinger raised up like a baseball bat, "I'd really rather nothing stupid happen quite so soon. Is that cool with you?"

((Blair Moore continued from Asymptote))

She could still see her victim's face.

The expression of fear, real or added in as time went on, was burned into Blair's brain every time she blinked or got distracted for even a second. She felt distant, separate from reality, like she wasn't in control of her body anymore. She walked zombielike, both her shoulders sore from sharing the weight of her bag, arms limp, lips slightly parted. She was dead too, in a way. A selfish way, because she still breathed and Jennifer didn't. But soon they'd have that in common. A small comfort, really.

She saw the buildings when she arrived, breathless, at the end of the bridge. She made her way to the doors with barely any consideration. Logic dictated people would flock to homier places, but Blair could not muster the energy to care. If there was a chair in there she'd-

Okay, no. She needed to avoid words like 'kill' or 'death' now. The implication of that phrase made her double over retching.

Her breathing was rattling by the time she got into the building. She wasn't having a flareup, not yet at least, but the fact that she was already at a disadvantage was only adding to her huge-ass pile of concerns. Even if she won, her days were numbered. That wasn't so bad by itself, she had therapy enough to get over it to an extent, but if she was the sole survivor it made everything seem a little les meaningful. Fantastic.

Damn, she wished she could go watch some Doctor now. Fuck it, while she was wishing just have the Doctor arrive here to save them and punch Danya in the face.

Immediately upon arrival, Blair looked down the main hallway and started to walk. She'd love a chance to find a place to rest, but knowing her luck the doors would all be locked. She wasn't exactly equipped to bust open a lock, so she might as well just explore for now, make sure the place was-

"Ahhh!" Blair screamed, stepping back as she rounded a corner into a smaller hallway to find a girl standing in front of an open door, with a blonde guy inside the door, barely visible from Blair's angle. She could definitely see the girl's sword, though. That didn't help.

Hands held in the air, Blair started to speak diplomatically, but before she got the chance to go beyond, 'I-" then she started coughing, painfully, her shitty lungs struggling with their usual coat of mucus. Wonderful.

Well, no flying bits of metal was coming at her, so she assumed that she was in the clear for now. It had taken her all of three seconds to realise that her sword had basically no point though, so she kept it low, whilst still being in a position to do something.

She stepped into the room, eyeing up the boy I front of her. Blonde, tall, probably a good six or so feet, and looked utterly overdressed for a science trip in an azure dress shirt. The weapon he was holding looked very strange, almost like a grooved hockey stick, but thinner and looked to be even more ridiculously useless for throwing things. Unless of course it had some hidden advantage that she was unable to discern, she should be fine.

To give credit where it was due though, she agreed with his sentiments. Both of the leaving without blood spilt, or hell, working together to make sure that the immediate future wasn't full of both of their blood would be a marvellous thing. Although, judging by the red drips on the weapon, he had already lost a little bit of blood, so there you go.

Those cuts though... Sure, it could be an older cut, but since when did those bleed? The weapon looked blunt, no way to slice anyone, so where had he gotten those? Her eyes flitted around, the gouge in the wall becoming obvious. Visibly scared, she raised up and sword and held it across her chest, hoping that whatever it was that thing could to, it would give her a change to either run or attack.

Maybe both.

Just as this thought had appeared in her head, she heard a scream. Jumping backwards, she became aware of another girl who had managed to approach unseen. "Fuck, fuck fucking shit fuck!" She screamed. Sure, it wasn't the most verbose thing to say, but there was few situations in which a stream of expletives didn't make some kind of impact.

She backed off, so that both of them were cleartly visible to her. The boy worried her, the gouge and the weapon worried her more. The girl currently coughing her lungs out worried her slightly less however, so she stayed put. With any luck it was asthma or something and she'd be fine after a few deep breaths.

"Ok, maybe we should... Calm down?" The words came out at a squeak, much higher than she'd thought her voice had ever had the capacity to reach, let alone say entire sentences in. Her hands were shaking, her heart was pounding, and she was very, very close to doing something she might regret. Gritting her teeth to seem a bit more in control, she followed up with a "please!?"

The girl stepped into the room. Noah kept the slinger raised, although he was already getting tired from holding it up. He made sure it was rested on his shoulder to relieve some stress, but it was starting to feel jittery. Sweater Girl was holding her long, dangerous sword close to her chest, and Noah was hoping she was planning on keeping it sheathed.

Of course, that was when a banshee decided to make its appearance and loudly scream in the hall. Noah jumped a bit in place. The other girl stepped back into the hall, giving Noah notice to lower his weapon. He wasn't sure who was in the hall, but from the other girl's reaction, someone else had just arrived and was startled by the sight of the girl.

"Oh fuck me," Noah muttered.

Noah leaned down and reached for his duffel bag, swinging it over his left shoulder. He kept the slinger in his right hand, and moved closer to the door. Sweater Girl had suggested they all calm down. Noah walked over to the sawblade on the ground.

"Yeah, 'calm' would be great," he said, leaning down to pick the saw up. He carefully lifted the edge up, managing to get it between his fingertips.

"I mean, it's preferable to screaming and jumping around, so I'd like some suggestions for alternative actions," he continued.

Noah put the sawblade back into the crook of the slinger, making sure it locked in with the magnet. Maybe this wasn't the best action to do while talking to these girls, but it had to be done before someone decided to go crazy. Granted, this wasn't the place for him to be having a fight, but Noah figured it couldn't hurt to be prepared.

After a few moments, Blair managed to recover her wits and stop hacking. Panting slightly, Blair looked over at the girl. Her name was...Maria or something? She had a food blog or something, and Blair knew next to nothing else about her other than that. She hadn't even seen the thing itself, just heard about it. Was it even a blog? Whatever.

There was also a guy in the doorframe, who Blair at least knew a bit better. Noah was one of those comedian types, and while Blair usually found that kind of thing annoying, at least Noah wasn't the type to screw around in class. So points to him, she supposed.

Wait what the fuck was he carrying? It looked like a plastic sling-ball toys, Jai alai or something, made of metal and was that a sawblade he was putting in it? Oh shit. They were both armed. She was not. This could be bad.

Blair raised her hands above her head, trying to maintain a steady breathing rate, and said, "Yeah, I'm all for clam. Uh, calm. Sorry." Damn, she was mixing up her words, she was so nervous. "No but seriously, if you guys are cool, I'm just gonna...rest, yeah."

An intense pain went through Blair's stomach, her body's protest against her running around carrying a heavy bag for like half an hour.

Then she puked, damn-near projectile style, sending half-digested remnants of her last meal across the floor.

Ok, that... That was not the effect of any asthma she knew. She turned to the boy, Noah was his name she recalled. They had known of each other, but never really progressed past the acquaintance stage.the kind of person you nodded to in the corridor, maybe said 'Hey' to occasionally.

And the weapon had a sawblade in it. Judging by the gouge in the wall, it could launch it somehow, and she really didn't want to be on the receiving end of a flying sawblade. "Maybe, we should all put the weapons down..." Her voice jumped a bit, despite her trying to keep it level, "Starting with sawblade-catapult-whachimajigger over there..."

If he put that down, then she could go and help the girl. As it was, she took a step back to prevent the puddle of vomit pooling over her shoes, which would probably make her hurl to be honest. "Keep it together Maria, keep it together..."

((Sandra Dyer continued from Exhausted.))

This was a weird position to be in, to be honest, staring down three people as soon as she entered the door.

Sandra had pulled out her map as she left the depot, which begged the question of why she even bothered to pack it in in the first place. She looked at the map, noting that there were three main "blocks" on the island. She walked outside, and by comparing her surroundings with the map, she concluded that she was on the northwestern part of the island.

If she was going to find her friends, her best bet would be to head to each of those other "blocks". After a mental coin toss, she decided to head south first, which meant, from what she could tell, passing through a bit of rough terrain. Hah, for her? Piece of cake.

Though, since she was heading south anyway, she figured she might as well check some of the southern buildings in her block.

So.

She now found herself standing just inside the building, looking at three people who were... well, not locked in a standoff, but...

She could tell the atmosphere was tense.

The three people...

Noah. A friend. Funny guy, liked comedy, cool dude all around.

Two other people she didn't really know much about, except for their names. Maria and... Blake? Blaine? No, Blair. That was it.

It hadn't been a stealthy entrance at all. There was no way that didn't notice her.

In this tense situation, as she looked at each of them in turn, she could only think of one thing to say.

"Jesus Christ, Noah, what the fuck is that thing?"

Graceful as fuck.

Noah moved closer, putting himself closer to the hall with the other two girls. He could now see the other girl was Blair Moore. He was prepared to greet her, but Blair decided to greet him and Sweater Girl with projectile vomiting. Noah quickly leaped back into the dorm room, letting out a long cry of disgust.

"Okay, not what I had in mind, but thank you anyways," he said in response to Blair blowing chunks.

Noah stepped back closer to the girls, trying not to step in vomit. It was going to smell really bad, really quickly, and if these two had things to say, he'd hope it'd be before he added to the mixture on the floor.

"Um..." Noah was about to say when another figure appeared in the hall.

Sandra Dyer. Noah smiled a bit at the sight of her. She liked stand-up as much as he did, so it helped to see someone he was on somewhat decent terms with.

Sandra asked what Noah was holding. Noah looked at the slinger, then held it up.

"Oh, hey Sandra Dee," he began. "Apparently, these terrorists invented a new way to play frisbee golf and wanted me to promote it. But enough about me and my burgeoning spokesman career, can we get away from the crap on the floor? I'd rather talk without seeing what Blair had for breakfast."

Blair, coughing from the acrid burning in her throat, wiped her face. She slowed her breathing, stepped back into the hall and sidled up against the wall to give the other two room to step away from the puddle of puke. Her innards hurt, and the taste in her mouth made her wish she had a whole tube of toothpaste to clean it out with.

First, though, she needed to talk. These two didn't seem to be actively murderous, at least not yet. If they were, she thought grimly, she'd be dead already. "Noah, and...Maria, right?" Blair said, almost at a whisper's volume. She was just about to offer her own name when another person arrived

Blair whipped around with a gasp, startled as the other girl entered. In all honesty she'd been so busy being sick that she hadn't recognized the incoming sounds of footfalls. "Sorry, you...surprised me." She said, her voice soft. "Sandra, isn't it?" She knew Sandra a bit better than the other two, having seen her around at the skate park on occasion. She was nice, but Blair didn't really know her beyond being kind of hyper.

"Sorry about the mess, I..." Blair felt her stomach cramp again, and she winced. Holding in her emotions was causing her physical pain, the trauma of what happened to Jennifer, it was too much. Not listening to Noah's comment, she staggered away from the group, towards the lobby, where she sat down on a bench.

Then she put her hands over her face and started crying.

Jesus fuck this was turning into a mess. Far too many people were here, and the area was far to small for her liking. If any of the newcomers had a gun, then this entire building could become a bloodbath very quickly. The logical solution was to get the fuck out of this place, and fast.

She slid the sword into one of the belt-loops that she never used for belts, jumped over the growing puddle of regurgitated... Whatever, she wasn't too keen on looking twice at it, pushed past the crying girl and the new one with out saying a word, and as soon as she was out the door she sprinted as fast as she could away from the situation.

It wouldn't be good to stay there for any longer.

A bunch of things happened in quick succession. She laughed inwardly at Noah's little joke, before Blair staggered off.

Then Maria followed suit, pushing past her and leaving the building.

"Okay...?" Sandra said, looking to the door that Maria left through.

She turned back to Noah.

"Uh, yeah, but uh... we should move into a room, preferably one farther down the hallway."

She stepped over the puddle of sick, suppressing the urge to vomit herself. She travelled a bit farther down the hallway, picking a door at random.

"In here looks..." she started, opening the door, "...plain, but pretty clean. This'll do."

Sandra entered the room, expecting Noah to be right behind her.
