Alrighty! It's that time again. As a quick reminder, since it will likely be highly relevant here, remember to specify which kill you are voting for if voting for a character who killed multiple times this cycle, since by V4 precedent votes for different scenes are not compiled. That said, have at. BEST KILL AWARD: Kathryn Nguyen, for killing Iselle Ovalle-Vandermeer Hansel Williams, for killing Marcus Leung Leona Van Camp, for killing Timothy Abrams Katarina Konipaski, for killing Deanna Hull Ami Flynn, for killing Maynard Hurst Tyler Lucas, for killing Cooper Komorowski Ami Flynn, for killing Joachim Lovelace Hansel Williams, for killing Virgil Jefferson-Davis Hansel Williams, for killing Christopher Harlin Katarina Konipaski, for killing Claire Monaghan BEST DEATH AWARD: Betaknight, for the death of Iselle Ovalle-Vandermeer Un-Persona, for the death of Marcus Leung Skraal, for the death of Timothy Abrams D/N, for the death of Deanna Hull SansaSaver, for the death of Maynard Hurst Ruggahissy, for the death of Paris Ardennes Betaknight, for the death of Cooper Komorowski DocBalance, for the death of Joachim Lovelace BROseidon, for the death of Virgil Jefferson-Davis Deamon, for the death of Christopher Harlin Laurels, for the death of Claire Monaghan Voting will run for five days. The announcement will come sometime thereafter, though we're trying to get as many outstanding deaths as possible in beforehand and thus there may be a slight delay. |

BKA: Ami Flynn for killing Maynard Hurst. I really appreciated how this kill affects Ami and her story. She's killed before, and it affected her for a long time and now she's had to do it again and it's exciting to see where this takes her. Props as well to Sansa for his end; it was a solid death scene for him. I also really like the concept of the botched suicide needing a mercy kill. Honorable mention to Hansel for killing like 3 people and making each one work (especially Marcus and Chris). BDA: Ruggavicky for the death of Paris Ardennes. I think this was a really fun scene for Joachim and Paris to die in and I loved it as an ending to Paris' story because it really made sense. I think it really worked because (and I'm ripping someone off here >_>) he "wins" without winning. His death was nicely written and it was a great finisher to his story, so bravo. Honorable mention to Laurels for Claire with an overall great death. Wasn't her biggest fan before but this was a nice capstone. Also to D/N for Deanna because her dying oneshot was a lot of fun to read as were her penultimate threads. |

So, this is the last one I guess, eh? Or one more? Whatever: BKA: Ami Flynn, for killing Joachim Lovelace I liked the recent kills of Ami, Maynard's was pretty cool, too. Reason why I chose Joachim's death is because I think the terrorist would've rewarded her for that kill, because it shows a good scene of the game. It also was a nice ending for Joachim, a nice scene overall with Paris and I gotta love that Rosemary was honoured there. BDA: Deamon, for the death of Christopher Harlin It was a wonderful adoption, Lexi would be proud. I think Chris' last post seriously fit his concept well! No doubt that that death post really got me. |

BKA: HANSEL WILLIAMS For killing Marcus Leung. It's brutal and beautiful. I've actually had the occasional problem with Hansel's kills, in that he seems too much an all-purpose murder machine. This in no way detracts from my love of the character (it's how I feel about Maxwell Lombardi, too), but this kill made total sense. BDA: MARCUS LEUNG Thematically, there are better deaths on the table (points to Beta, Laurels, and Doc), but there are none that are quite so perfectly bleak. Marcus and Hansel are having a frank conversation, and Marcus gets blown away without fanfare. Perfection. |

For my BKA: KK's kill of Claire Monaghan. Even though the actual kill post hasn't yet been written (as of this typing (where is my SC epilogue while you're at it)) KK's prose throughout the entire scene is seriously jaw-dropping. Beautiful, beautiful writing combined with a unique situation and a character that consistently wows me. Well done, Rattle and KK. For my BDA: Gonna give my ups to Deanna Hull and D/N, for their wonderful closing oneshot that encapsulated a character that's been with us for over a year. Really well done sequence preceding the oneshot, and an excellent, tight conclusion to a great story. My runner-up here is Deamon and Chris. Really hard to choose one over the other. |

Best Kill goes to Hansel Williams, who killed Marcus Leung. Honestly, it was a choice between this and Katarina's two kills. While I perfectly understand that Marcus's death is very controversial, because his handler let him die. However, apart from Claire's death, it is the only one that has stuck out to me this month. It seriously came out of nowhere and shocked me, and that's probably why it's even considered as a candidate for me. Plus, I think Marcus's death marked a turning point for Hansel that quickly rolled into his Thread Tour 2012. Plus plus, Hansel dun good this month. So says Black Jesus. And Best Death goes to Laurels for Claire Monaghan. Holy shit Laurels, way to pull out the big guns the second your last character's supposed to die. I feel somewhat biased because I was tangentially involved with the death but this is all Laurels. This death was all his idea and while Rattlesnake made it exciting, Laurels truly made this death shine. It made like Claire as a character and I actually felt emotions with her death. Really awesome stuff, so proclaims Black Jesus. |

Best Kill Award: I choose Ami Flynn killing Maynard Hurst as my pick for the BKA this month. It's a different kind of death, since Maynard attempted suicide and failed, putting himself in a coma. It robs Maynard of the chance to end things on his term, but also puts control of the situation into Ami's hands. Ami could have let him lie there and eventually pass away, but she had to get the nerve to actually finish him. It means she's allowing herself to have another kill to her name, something that could turn player hunters against her, but it's also her attempt to be merciful to a friend. I'm excited to see what effect this has on her remaining time in the game, so I feel rewarding her for the kill will be interesting. Best Death Award: This was a really hard one, but after some deliberation, I decided on D/N for the death of Deanna Hull. I feel Deanna's going to be one of the better remembered students in V5. She had a great start, had good chemistry with Kyran, and I found her to be an interesting perspective. Her death following her fight with KK was a pretty good end for the character, since it felt a bit like a Shakespearean. monologue. I also liked some of the touches, like Deanna trying to have one last cigarette but being unable to light it, since it adds some levity to a serious moment. It's a nice scene, and a fitting end for a good character. |

BKA: Hansel Williams for killing Chris Harlin Hansel had a good number of deaths this month, and as usual all were competently executed, but it was his killing of Chris that stood out to me the most because of the way it contrasts a lot of what we've seen of him. It's not a fight, not exactly an ambush or snap shot the way so many of Hansel's other kills have been. He takes that next step, looks his victim in the eye, and pulls the trigger anyways. It's a great moment of insight into who Hansel has become, and is also a very well staged scene that is an enjoyable read on the whole. BDA: Ruggahissy for the death of Paris Paris' death is interesting to me in that everything else going on sort of fades into the background to give us a really in depth look into the mind of a character who has historically been something of a closed book to us. Paris' death serves as an arc in itself, moving him through denial into horror and then, interestingly, back into denial. We get to see the core fears that have driven Paris, and it's an effective humanizing moment for him. It's exactly the sort of thing I wanted to see from him at the end, and it's a very fitting capstone to his time in the game. |
