((Joe Carrasco continued from Tomorrow is the most important thing in life.))

There were blank post-its stuck to one of the broken down buses. Bullet holes surrounded it. Joe hadn't wanted the first time firing a rifle to be while attempting murder, so he'd set up a little firing range for a few moments of practice.

He hadn't actually hit any of the post-its except by accident. He'd used up what remained of the current clip practicing. Didn't matter. He still had bullets.

Joe glared at the bullet holes from where he was seated on the ground. The now bullet-ridden bus was casting a shadow over him. The gun was in his bag now, tucked out of sight. Some of the bullet holes were close. Close wasn't enough. He'd shot close to Finn, too.

Maybe he should go and look for Travis. Or try eating or drinking. He wasn't sure if he'd done that today. He felt fine. Well, physically. Okay, his throat hurt a lot and had gotten pretty bruised, but Ben had tried to strangle him so that made sense. Physically he felt more fine than he had a right to feel. Yeah, he didn't feel hungry or thirsty. Maybe a bit tired. But there wasn't time for sleep.

He wondered if he should use up more bullets practicing. Would he be ready even if he used every bullet he had? If he used them all up, he wouldn't have to think about this. Or worry about another Jason.

(Kyran Dean continued from You're Driftwood.)

1:30 AM.

Kyran knew they shouldn't have split up. He knew something like this would have happened. He knew. And yet he still let it happen. That was a day or so ago. Kyran had a watch on but even then he was losing track of time

The pantry was deathly quiet, save for the thunk of the tennis ball he busied himself with chucking. Wasn't like he had much else to do, what with Deanna Hull and Cammy dropping off the face of the earth. Course, that wasn't their fault. Went without saying.

Kyran had his back pressed against the wall, and each time he threw the ball it bounced right back. Kept himself occupied for a time. Wasn't like he had anything else better to do.

2:00 AM.

Thunk. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.

3:00 AM.

He chucked the ball a little too hard. The tennis ball bounced so hard off of the wall that it flew up into the air and out the doorway to the pantry, into the cafeteria prior.

Kyran cursed. Hoped no one heard that. Wouldn't have been much hassle to get up and go get it. Kryan didn't feel like it though. So he just sat there, staring at the white tiles on the wall across from him, just letting the world ride past.

6:00 AM.

"This is bullshit."

Sure is, Dean. And it's all your fault.

9:00 AM.

The speakers came on and Kyran shook awake.

Cammy. But no Dee or Gray. No Joachim. No Hansel.

On a different day, he might have hit something. Maybe breathe a sigh of relief, maybe. Not today. Today Kyran just stared on, sitting limp on the floor until he fell asleep.

???

... He didn't care anymore.

Kyran fell asleep for god knows how long. He didn't feel rested though. And he hated that, but it wasn't like he could anything about that. He didn't even bother to check his watch. That's how little of a crap he gave.

There were gunshots coming from outside. Of course he heard them. Kyran was a lot of things and deaf wasn't one of them.

Yeah, no. Screw them. Whatever was out there, Kyran didn't care. He got up. He picked up the skateboard from the wall, threw it out in front of him and jumped on.

Kyran Dean strolled around the abandoned cafeteria for a while. Until he realized the cafeteria was lame. He rolled out of the cafeteria, tried to olley onto a railing and failed. He hit the ground and banged his knee good. Whatever. Kyran shrugged it off and kept riding until he hit the field. Looped around the pavement three times like he were running laps. Then he glided towards the parking lot. Just weave around the school buses. Sounded like a plan.

Footsteps.

Joe reached for his things warily, looking around for the source of the noise. It didn't take long to find. There was a guy, wandering around the other side of the buses.

He was not someone Joe recognised. But his appearance set off some alarm bells.

"Joachim... kinda tall-ish guy, keeps to himself, mousy brown hair."

That was Marcus' description. This guy sure fit that. Yeah, maybe it was a bit generic of a description. But there weren't that many tall, brown-haired guys wandering around by themselves at this stage, was there? Not so late in the game.

Joe's hand curled around the end of his gun. It was on the side that was away from this man who might be Joachim, three-time killer. Maybe he'd catch him by surprise.

But maybe 'tall and brown-haired' was too generic to just go shooting randomly. So Joe called out.

"Hey! Wh-who're you?"

Kyran cranked his head over his shoulder. There was a guy, curly mop, big nose, four eyes. It didn't take a rocket scientist to know who he was talking to. Kyran might have humoured him on a good day. Doubly so had he seen the gun.

Unfortunately, Kyran had to see a man about a mutt.

He turned his head away.

"Nah."

Then he dropped the skateboard again, hopped on, and started rolling away Plan was to look slick and smooth, hands in pockets, on top of his skateboard. Call it self-fulfillment if it helps you sleep at night.

No name-giving. More alarm bells. Not enough. No rage. Just annoyance.

Enough for Joe to pick up the gun. Not enough for him to use it, just enough to point it. Hand far enough away from the trigger that he wouldn't pull it by accident.

He aimed right at the guy who was possibly Joachim. Though his aim was shaky.

"It... it wasn't a r-r-request. I... I said stop!"

The bullshit ended when the guy pulled out the gun. It was an old piece, probably-maybe an antique though no way he knew the name. Kyran didn't do guns, all he knew was that it was the first time anyone's pulled one on him.

Okay, sure, fine. He popped a manual and ground to a halt, shocked enough that he almost lost balance. He threw his hands up.

"Bringing a gun on school grounds," Kyran said. "Pretty sketch, don't you think?"

That was a joke. Kind of. Guy didn't laugh though.

Kyran could see the shaking in the guy's arms. Scared? Reading tells wasn't his bag, either, but the possibility brought out a sliver of pity. Under normal circumstances, Kyran might have tried to reason, maybe get him to drop the gun. He wasn't in the mood. So instead he crossed his arms and made a face.

"What?"

Jokes. Crappy jokes. Can't blow this off with jokes. Can't be this casual in a death-game. Or when there's a gun in their face. Not right.

"I already asked, okay? Who're you? What's your name? And... and you try anything, and..." Joe shook the gun slightly in maybe-Joachim's direction, blinking rapidly. "And I'll... I'll shoot. I-I can shoot."

You couldn't shoot Hansel.

"I can shoot," Joe repeated, more to himself than to maybe-Joachim.

Kyran crossed his arms. Seemed like a very easy question to answer, but Kyran had no intention of answering it. Why would this poodle be asking for his name? Not unless he was planning to carve Kyran's name onto his arm, he couldn't think of another reason. The reason was simple. Announcements.

Unfortunately Kyran didn't have the time or the patience to deal with this. Plus, guy's hands were shaking.

"Peter Parker."

He wasn't giving his real name. There was only one reason for that. He had something to hide.

Joe said nothing in response.

He just clicked the safety off and put his finger on the trigger.

He didn't pull it. He just stood there silently, gun in the other boy's face. The gun barrel wouldn't stay still.

That click. Kyran shivered, though he tried his best not to betray the emotions mounting in his chest.

"Man," Kyran tsked, "why do you even care? A name's a name."

There was a bit of a whine in his voice. Somehow he had his doubts that this guy was going to go through with it. But... Fuck, maybe he should play along?

"Name's... name's all I got. Name and a description."

Pull the trigger.

"And you fit the description."

Pull the trigger.

"So... so name's a name, Joachim. Name says I have to shoot you."

He killed three people. He killed Sunny. He killed Gabby's best friend. Pull the trigger.

It shouldn't be so hard. Joe drew a shaky breath.

SHOOT HIM.

The gun barrel dropped an inch or so.

I can't. He's a face now. He's not a post-it.

Joachim. Where had he heard that name before?

... Kyran snorted. "Seriously?!"

He started laughing. Yukked so long he almost suffocated. Guffawed so hard he had to hold his chest to stop it from exploding. It wasn't a joke, not an intentional one. Guy was probably serious, dead fucking serious. But to Kyran? Funniest inside joke he ever heard.

After a minute of nonstop laughter, Kyran managed to compose himself. He wiped a tear from his eye, wheezing out a shit-eating chuckling.

"Sure," Kyran said. "Whatever saddles your pony, sheriff."

It took him another minute minute to finally get his shit together. By the time he looked up, guy had his gun pointed down. Only by a little, but enough for Kyran to notice. He rolled his eyes. Then he rolled the dice.

"Alright."

He dropped his bag, threw his arms out. Taking a step away from the board, Kyran threw his arms out like Emmanuel. Waited a minute.

"What's the matter? You think I'm Joachim, going around killing people with my invisible gun? You think you're Dirty Harry? You think you know it all? Then go right the fuck ahead, I won't stop you."

Kyran knew he could have taken a chance. Ran at the guy, wrenched the gun out of his hands. Simple as that. Something told him he didn't need to do that. When the guy didn't say anything, Kyran pumped his hands against his chest.

"Go ahead, tough guy. Free kill, no strings attached. Do it." A beat. "Are you deaf or something? Shoot me!"

He waited. It was quiet. Guy still had the gun trained on him but if he wanted to shoot, he would have done it already. Kyran gave him another moment.

"Yeah." Kyran smiled. "That's what I thought."

He threw a nod, picked up his shit and turned. Threw the skateboard out in front of him, jumped on, hands in pockets, smooth and slick.

Joe was confused and frustrated and nothing made any sense. 'Joachim' was laughing. And then he was agreeing and then he wasn't, and then he was calling him Dirty Harry and telling him to shoot and Joe just couldn't do that, especially now. Especially when he just didn't know what was happening anymore.

'Joachim' even told him to shoot, and he couldn't shoot. Even though he was laughing like Travis. Why did he think being Joachim was so funny? Was he someone else? Why would being called a murderer be funny? Was he worse? Or had he just cracked? What was happening?

'Joachim' could have walked away. Joe could have let him.

But the laughing, the sarcasm brushing off serious issues, that shitty bravado... it just set off Travis echoes in his mind. And maybe that wasn't enough on its own. Because 'Joachim' was still a face.

But then he turned away.

And Joe couldn't see his face any longer. His sight wasn't the best to begin with, but now 'Joachim' had no face. He was faceless again. A slightly blurry, generic silhouette. No distinguishing features from behind, like Hansel and his ridiculous hat.

Joe raised the gun again. It shook less. He took a deep breath that sounded oddly rattly. His gun steadied further.

No face. Post-it. Too much Travis in him.

And it was just so much easier to shoot at someone's back than at their face.

At that moment... that one moment... it made sense to him. It was the only thing in this situation that made sense.

He pulled the trigger.

He had no idea what happened. One second he was on his board, the next he was stumbling, arms outstretched. He wobbled, gaining his balance, but he buckled at the knees and he couldn't explain why that was. Kyran felt something in his torso and he looked down out of reflex.

There was a hole in his chest. A hole. In his goddamn chest.

It didn't even hurt. That was the strange thing. No pain, just exhaustion. Kyran staggered around to look at the guy with the smoking gun. Surprise, then a dry smirk, Disbelieving but impressed in a 'fuck you' sort of way. Everything was going black. He quickly tugged at the necklace and the chain snapped. He pressed it to his chest like it was going to sprout wings and fly away. Kyran shambled, retrograde, dropped to his knees. He stared at the guy and his face was stone cold. Kyran stopped smirking.

Man, Dean. You really screwed up.

Yeah. Guess you're right.

Sorry Cammy. Sorry Claire. Sorry Gray. Sorry Joachim. Sorry mom. Sorry, Deanna Hull.
