Best Kill Award: I think the Best Kill of the month should go to Maynard Hurst for killing Adam Morgan. I think it was a bold move for Sansa to have Maynard kill one of his oldest allies in the game. It's surely going to affect Maynard from here on out, and I look forward to seeing what comes next. Giving him a dangerous weapon and some food might cause him to think about his actions, especially since he's running out of allies and friends. Maynard's at a very fluid moment in his story, and I feel this is something that would affect his story greatly. Best Death Award: I think Kalopsia had the best death with Zoe Leverett. I feel it was a really good adoption, and Kalopsia carried the character well after taking her from Jonny. Her death really threw me for a loop, especially putting the death tag at the start. It was a pretty harsh way to go, but I definitely feel like Rachel made me understand why Zoe would do such a thing. Zoe's such an interesting character, and I think it was definitely a good death. |

Best Death: MurderWeasel, for Adam Morgan. It's rare to see a very tight, controlled collaboration post, and even rarer to see a post that encompasses a character so neatly and tidily. It was one of those posts that retroactively betters a character - not that Adam was bad by any stretch of the imagination - and for that he gets my vote. Best Kill: Joe Carrasco, for the murder of Benjamin Ward. Joe's been through a ton, and finally has reached a complete and total tonal shift with him cutting ties to his best friend killer, and murdering another one in a very satisfying scene to read. Props to all involved, and I look forward to seeing how Joe handles the shift. |

Heya, all! Gonna close this tonight, most likely. We have super low voter turnout at the moment though, so now's the time to get involved. |

BKA: Madeline Wilcox, for killing Veronica McDonald. Veronica's unrolled death came as a big surprise, and a big part of selling it was Maddie's reaction to R.J. dying and her desire for revenge. I think this kill is going to take Maddie in some interesting directions, and seeing her get recognized for it with the combination of justification and regret that she feels towards it would be really interesting. BDA: Bacon, for the death of Jessica Murphy. There's been a lot of poetry this version, but I thought that Bacon's short, blunt haiku best fit both Jessica's character arc and her general writing style better than other attempts. There's also a certain dark irony to a strong swimmer dying by drowning that I appreciate. Of all the deaths this round, Jessica's felt most like the conclusion to an arc, and I enjoyed that. |

BKA: Cody Patton, for killing Alice Gilman Aw jeez, poor Cody. Just chilling with a friend, when a ragtag duo comes up and talks. One bluffs about a gun and gets shot for it. I mostly like this scene because of the acknowledgment of pre-island recognition: he knees they're weirdos, and I haven't seen much of that so far. BDA: Un-Persona, for the death of RJ Roger Jr. I like the surrealism of the initial part of the post, and I like how he had time to forgive. Overall it was a nicely woven turn of events, and Persy pulled off his part perfectly. |

About time I actually voted, since this is the first time in ages I've read everything. Almost forgot. Whoops. For BKA I had to think for a while. Settled on Maynard Hurst for killing Adam, because that kill was just kind of mix of freaking out and misunderstanding and concerns and that's always fun. For BDA I'm going to pick Adam Morgan as well. Not because of the same BKA reasons. More because although sometimes I'm a bit iffy about peaceful deaths, Adam's was not peaceful in that 'I am at peace with myself' way. Like, he was, sort of, or at least said he was because it coulda been worse. But at the same time he's most focused on his failures. He's semi-delirious and incoherent and he just keeps repeating himself and it feels like just a very quiet, downplayed breakdown, and I really like that. |

BKA: While we had an impressive and spectacular turn out for this round of kills, I'd have to give my vote to SansaSaver for Maynard Hurst. The brutality of the attack was wonderfully framed by the brutality of his fragile mind snapping under the pressure. It didn't feel like a murder, so much as an accidental lashing out. It's a great move for the character's story, so I ultimately enjoyed this from Sansa and MurderWeasel's writing. BDA: This was extraordinarily hard for me to ultimately isolate, but I'd have to give my vote to Shangela for Benjamin Ward. I really enjoyed the anger, the vengeance, and the drive that Ben had while slowly dying out. It was an ugly death, yet very engrossing to read. |

BKA: Joe Carrasco Joe's been on my radar for a while, one of the characters really bubbling under in V5, and it was great to see him take a more active role in events this past month. Joe's entire scene, from his falling out with Travis to his eventual decision to kill Ben in the name of keeping others safe, marks a big change for him, and one that bodes interestingly for his future. The kill itself was well handled, but what really stands out to me and makes it so appealing is that it's both the result of and the inevitable cause for character development. That Joe would kill again shows that a lot has changed for him, and that he has done so means his path is about to head some very interesting places indeed. BDA: Rutherford Roger Jr. I was very sad to see RJ die, but his death was very well handled, especially the final few posts, which do a good job of capturing the sudden nature of things. It's a nice little mix between the artsy/abstract and the really blunt and down to earth--not something that would work for every character, for sure, but for RJ it really fits nicely with the way his whole story's been told up until this point. His death was a good character moment, and it's also something that will surely reverberate and shape Maddie's tale as well, so some bonus points for that. All in all, just a solidly handled death that brings some freshness into the mix without feeling like it has to reinvent the wheel. Well done. |
