Name: Tyler Lucas Gender: Male Age: 19 Grade: 12 School: Aurora High Hobbies and Interests: Weightlifting, Football, Wrestling Appearance: Tyler Lucas is big, standing six feet six inches tall and weighing in at 240 pounds. He has a broad chest, a fair-sized gut from poor nutrition and too much beer, and thick, powerful arms. His skin tends towards the tan and he has a fairly terrible complexion. His dark brown eyes are just a little too small for his head, and his dark hair has been trimmed to a stubble. He has a large nose and thin, pale lips. He pays little attention to his clothes, favoring the handful of ragged jeans and threadbare undershirts, sometimes with a black hoodie thrown over it where teachers hassle him. Of late, he has also taken to wearing his letterman's jackets. Biography: Born in Seattle to unwedded and underage Jasmine Lucas by an unknown father, Tyler Lucas had a spartan childhood. Though he never went unfed or unclothed--his mother worked two to three jobs through the course of his childhood to make sure of that fact--his retired grandmother, suffering from a terminal case of stomach cancer, was her only family in the area and she had few resources to provide for a baby sitter or daycare. Tyler was always loving towards his mother and grandmother, but his mother was often working and his grandmother would often pass into a daze of painskillers, and when she did he would leave the house, unnoticed and unhindered. He respected no other adult as a source of authority, and picked fights with other children all the time, around the neighborhood and local playgrounds. The other parents complained to his mother, and Tyler tearfully promised her that he would stop; though he remained a rambunctious child more prone to fighting than others of his age, his fights certainly were reduced in frequency. As he grew older, however, his violent tendencies reemerged. When he started school, Tyler often proved rowdy on the playground and was often involved in fights, but never quite to the degree he could be expelled. When he hit puberty, he almost immediately outgrew the other kids in his class, and became more prone to bullying others. He received multiple suspensions through the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, both for fighting and for cutting school, but he never hurt anyone badly enough to receive more serious punishment. In the eighth grade he was held back, his poor attendance and lack of turned-in assignments negating the middling grades he received on what work he did. Tyler was problematic without being significant--his rowdiness caused trouble but only at the student level. The suspensions he received were the exception rather than the rule, and though aggressive his general lack of criminal behavior did not necessitate the involvement of higher authorities. The teachers often sent notes home, but Tyler generally got rid of these before his mother saw them, and meetings were difficult to arrange due to his mother's intense schedule. Perhaps she might have noticed the problematic behavior more if eighth grade were not also the year her mother died; her grief and the settling of her mother's medical debts made for a still more intense schedule, and the more forgiving teachers were willing to attribute Tyler's failing grades to grief. Thus Tyler continued to slip through the cracks, barely avoiding the worst trouble. This changed during his freshman year, however, when he fought several older boys as big or bigger than he was. This time the consequences of the fight were far more severe--Tyler broke two fingers on his left hand had his nose broken, but dealt out two broken noses and a severe concussion. This was too much damage for his fighting to be ignored, and Tyler was charged with assault. Though it was his first encounter with the law, the prosecutor looked over the suspensions and issues he had at school and painted a harsh but not wholly inaccurate picture of Tyler as a violent bully whose tendencies had gone unnoticed too long. The prosecutor's case proved effective, and Tyler Lucas was sentenced to a year in juvenile detention at the King County Juvenile Correction Facility. The first month of juvenile detention was as rough as his school performance, filled with fights and injuries. But Juvenile Detention turned out to be beneficial, as he finally got more attention from social services and from a therapist who did pro bono work with the facility. His aggression was a multi-faceted beast born both from being unable to know his father and unable to get the full attention of his mother, so busy working to keep them both afloat, and further complicated by his using violence as a way to assert control over a world he felt wronged by. The therapist convinced him that his violence was ultimately harmful to his future, sabotaging his performance in school and his opportunities. At the advice of this therapist, he took up weight lifting and exercise to channel his energy and aggression, improving his already-decent physique. He received decent grades on his schoolwork and had no further behavioral complaints, and was ultimately released four months early to the custody of his mother, who the court had earlier found competent. He was treated with a good deal of suspicion and hostility by his peers at Aurora on his return to school, and though he remained brash and bullying he refrained from getting into any further fights. He convinced Coach Hadley to let him continue weight-lifting, and he was so devoted to it that he and the coach gradually became closer, until he was allowed to join the football team on a probationary basis. He is a superb defensive player, practically unstoppable once he sets his sights on someone. Not even this quite sufficed to keep his violent tendencies in check, however, and he became a problematic player as more and more of his aggressive habits came out, resulting in both him and his team receiving a number of penalties. Coach Hadley had taken more of an interest in him, and set him to wrestling so that he could take out his fighting urges more constructively. This proved to be a wise choice on Coach Hadley's part--the opportunity to fight in controlled circumstances without much chance of injury helped to temper his aggression, and he has frequently placed at the regional and state level He remains an aloof member of both the football and the wrestling team but a member nevertheless, trusted if not necessarily liked. Wrestling and football have also practically erased his bullying tendencies--perhaps because they have provided him a way to assert himself upon the world in a way that society does not disapprove of. His grades continue to be only middling--C's with the occasional B--and any chance of changing that was eliminated when he took on a late-night job tending to a convenience store. Every cent he makes goes to his mother, to help keep their house afloat. His work has enabled his mother to take fewer hours, and they have become much closer as a result, further curbing his need to act out. Between his working out, his wrestling, football, school, and working, he doesn't have much time to spare on other activities. Though schoolwork remains a priority only insofar as he needs to keep his grades up to stay on the team, he has become a disciplined and dedicated athlete and a fine worker, his aggressive tendencies channeled towards constructive ends. Advantages: Tyler Lucas is strong and knows how to fight, and he is self-reliant and independent. Disadvantages: Tyler is antisocial at his best and abrasive at his worst, which will make any attempt towards diplomacy difficult and will make others much less likely to trust him. Moreover, he still has something of a reputation as a delinquent, and his aggressive tendencies may prove harmful in an environment where he's likely to get shot. Hiya, Grim! Before we give Tyler a full critique, please be sure his bio conforms exactly to the template. Specifically, please delete the extra line between advantages and disadvantages; no line should be skipped there. Post when you've got that done, and we'll give Tyler a full critique. Thanks! |

Hiya, Grim! Tyler's profile is a very good start, but he is DENIED pending a bit of expansion and editing. I'd like to see a description of Tyler's clothing choices, including his outfit on the day of the abduction. I'd also like to know the color of his hair and eyes. Who took care of Tyler when he was young? Someone must have watched him when he was a baby. Where was he born? Why didn't his mother move closer to family? How did he elude the attention of authorities? Unattended children, especially in a city, are a big deal and getting caught would likely result in the very quick involvement of social services at a minimum. Why did Tyler like getting in fights and causing trouble? What did Tyler's mother think of his behavioral issues? How did she attempt to temper them? What actions did the school take to try to solve his problems? I'm having some issues with Tyler's sentencing. It seems like a lot of time for his first encounter with the law in an official fashion, and it also raises a ton of questions about things with his mother and extended family? Where was social services? This sort of history would almost certainly have gotten the family investigated before things could escalate to this point. I'd like a lot more of the why behind Tyler's actions. Why did he decide to turn things around? Why did he pick on people? Why did he focus so much on athletics after his release? I'd like to know what draws Tyler to his hobbies. I'd also like to know what else he likes to do. He can't spend all his time on physical activity, so what does he do with the rest of his time? What's his relationship with his mother like now? How does he get along with people in school? He must surely have a few people he gets along with. What consequences has he faced of late regarding his bullying? Average intelligence isn't a disadvantage, it's just being average. Similarly, unless Tyler is way more dependent on modern conveniences than an average kid his age for some reason (which should come up in his bio), that's not a disadvantage either. His issues taking care of himself should come up in his bio; they seem rather odd, given that he spent a lot of time self-sufficient. Tyler's issues with interpersonal skills should get a bit more elaboration. Also, if the questionable disadvantages are dropped, I'd like to see something else take their place. Post when you've got Tyler edited, and we'll give him another look. Thanks! |

Edited. I expanded on clothing and hair and eye color and added the existence of a grandmother with stomach cancer who watched him in his youth. This same grandmother dies in the eighth grade, which helps to mitigate the accusations that come his way and help him to continue to slide through the cracks. I also reduced the frequency of his fights in childhood, making it more of a problem through the course of his school career. Social services gets partially involved following the fight that gets him sentenced to Juvenile Detention, as well as a therapist who expands on some of the reasons for his aggression since I feel they would be out of place earlier, before he received attention. I believe there was enough of a case in the profile to warrant the one year sentence, and had a fierce prosecutor be the instrument by which this was achieved (I admit I was partially inspired by the hard-ass judge from The Maze in this case). Instances of bullying have decreased with his involvement in sports and physical activities. The mother is a competent guardian with a problematic child her work keeps her too busy to fully deal with. Their being closer I've addressed with him taking a job, and being part of two sports teams, school, and working at a convenience store gives him little time for much else. I confess that I'm reluctant to expand on his social life at school outside of the game, as doing so would give me hard lines I'd have to abide by in-game rather than softer guidelines I could use to give him friends and acquaintances when he starts interacting with students when V5 starts. I believe I've covered everything. |

Hiya, Grim! Tyler's looking a lot better, but I've still got a few things I'd like to see edited. I'd like to know what he was wearing on the day of the abduction. I'd also like to know a bit more about how Tyler's complexion is terrible; does he break out a lot? does his skin get dry? I've got a few other questions about Tyler's early life. Why didn't his mother try to figure out who his father was, at least to try to get some sort of child support? Why didn't they seek some sort of government support, given that they sound to be in pretty poor circumstances overall? At what age did Tyler's grandmother's health problems become severe enough to leave him unattended for long spans of time? How did she react once this was brought to her attention? How did his mother respond? This is a serious safety issue for young children, and seems like it would be grounds for significant concern and consternation. It also seems like something that could very easily generate police involvement; young children left unattended draw a lot of attention, especially if they're causing trouble. How did his mother deal with the resurgence in Tyler's violent tendencies in school, since they started before the death of her mother? What did she do to try to curb these tendencies? Why didn't it work? Most schools do not give up if parents won't get involved; rather, if they can't reach a parent and a child is showing symptoms of a dysfunctional home life, schools are legally obligated to report things to social services immediately (I was a mandatory reporter for a while in the course of my work, and it's something that is taken very seriously and creates huge liability if not followed through on). I'm still finding the length of internment a bit long, and would like to know a bit more about the entire legal process. How did the fight start? What was Tyler's defense? How did this whole thing interact with his schooling? My big worry overall is the length of time it takes for Tyler to attract real attention, because he shows really clear signs of stuff being super wrong from his earliest encounters with the school system, and there are a lot of nets in place to catch cases like that, especially in larger and more liberal cities. Why was Tyler not expelled from Aurora following the fight? Expulsion's a lot easier to come by than actual legal charges. I missed it last time, but I'm not sure which coach you're referring to for Aurora; the primary boys' coach is Coach Lomelli and the lower-grade coach is Mr. Davidge. I'd just like a bit more generic stuff on how he's seen around school/how he interacts with people now/what sorts of people he's more likely to get along with. No specifics are necessary, just a rough outline (and anything that doesn't quite mesh that comes up in-game can be an exception, as long as it makes sense). I'd like to see Tyler get one more decently substantial disadvantage, since right now he has a lot going for him compared to largely social disadvantages. Post when you've got Tyler updated, and we'll give him another look. Thanks! |
