Owen laughed out loud, unable to contain himself and quite frankly at the time he wouldn’t want to. It was a better result than he had expected. He had never expected her to snap so badly.

He didn’t care about how many dicks she drew in his book or what she screamed; he was just enjoying this far too much. It was the kind of moment he would commit to memory, it was the kind of memory that he’d remember fondly for years. It was just the best reward for putting up with so much of her shit.

Hell, he might even keep his now ruined book as a reminder of the occasion.

He had to keep this going for longer, so he reached for the other pen again and pulled the now ruined essay towards himself. It might piss her off to further defile the essay.

While wearing his most devious smile he continued to draw offensive imagery on the essay, and he was still laughing. If it made her rage any extra it was totally worth it. He hoped that his expression showed that he didn’t give a fuck about what she did to the workbook. There was little she could do to bother him now.

Naomi honestly couldn't remember being this furious. Not only did he have the audacity to draw dicks on her essay, but then he just had to laugh at her and draw more of them! She had lost any will to be creative at this point.

"Jerk! Jerk, jerk, jerk, jerk, JERK! Those dicks should have been drawn on your face!"

"Excuse me!"

Naomi was snapped out of her rage by a different voice. The voice belonged to the librarian, Ms. Garvey, who was currently staring at the two of them with the filthy look that all librarians gave to people who were screeching loudly.

Then it finally hit Naomi that she was screaming about dicks in a public library.

"...Apologies," she mumbled to the librarian, her face going an even brighter red. This time, out of embarrassment. And Owen was still grinning at her, that...

No. She would not return to yelling. She would not!

She snatched up the rough essay, which was thankfully dick-free, as well as her pencil case and bag.

"I can finish it at home and hand it into the teacher. Please never talk to me again," she said as calmly as she manage, although her voice still shook a little with anger. She turned to leave, but stopped and turned back.

"And by the way, I lied. You're not good looking."

Then she spun around and stormed out.

Owen faked a dramatic gasp after that last jab at him at put a hand to his forehead, “Oh no!” he shouted at her as she left, his tone mocking. He didn’t care, she was just saying that, the bitch knew he was attractive and just said it to piss him off.

Then Owen was left behind in the library with his own thoughts, his enjoyment cut short by the nosy librarian. He picked up his belongings and packed them into his bag. He mused about how every part of the assessment went horribly as he left the library. He considered hassling Naomi Bell further, she had left with the only copy of their assessment and god knows what she would do to it without him watching over it.

He didn’t see Naomi at all before English class; he figured that she was avoiding him. It was only logical from his point of view. She wanted nothing to do with him, but he needed to know how the assessment turned out. He needed to know if that bitch erased all of his hard work in order to suit her own needs.

He waited impatiently in class for her to arrive.

Naomi was now throughly ashamed of her breakdown yesterday. Not out of guilt for arguing, or for drawing pictures of male genitalia all over Owen's notebook. She was simply embarrassed for losing her calm demeanor so badly.

Storming out with the only copy of the essay in hand had worked to her advantage in the long run, however. She'd managed to rewrite the essay properly. Most of the night had been spent fixing up the essay the way it should have been in the first place. She'd had to apply extra make-up in order to hide the bags under her eyes, but she couldn't quite stifle the occasional yawn.

She saw Owen in the classroom already. Maybe he wouldn't ask to see the essay if she just slipped by him. Maybe he would be too focused on laughing at her embarrassing temper tantrum.

Hm. Actually, that seemed like a worse alternative.

Naomi's best chance was to ignore him. She attempted to walk to a faraway seat without him doing anything.

Of course the moment that Owen noticed Naomi he made a straight beeline in her direction. He was wearing a cross sort of expression on his face. At that very moment the rest of the class was filtered out as he focused on Naomi.

The moment that he was close enough to her he spoke in a demanding tone, not a shout but a simple statement.

“Give me that essay immediately.”

He kept that cross expression on his face, glaring directly at Naomi, eye contact and all.

Well. Sneaking past him didn't work. He cornered her as soon as she sat down. Pity.

Naomi didn't answer right away. She was doing her best to not let her voice betray the anger that was still lingering there from yesterday. After a few long seconds, she said, "I don't see why you need the essay. It's finished. Also, I'm fairly certain I expressed a strong desire to never talk to you ever again.

"I suppose that you..." Naomi stopped to stifle a yawn that was threatening to slip out. "That you won't leave until you've seen it, though. Given that you were petty enough to start an argument over pen colours." Naomi reached into her bag, pulled out a copy of the essay and slid it across the desk. "No need to read it all the way through. I wouldn't want you to get a headache from the effort."

Naomi crossed her arms and waited for him to look through it. She assumed that he would get mad over the alterations. Perhaps he would go right back to vandalizing her work with obscene drawings. But whatever he did, she wouldn't lose her temper. Not again.

“Yeah, yeah, shut up.”

He snatched the essay from her desk; the time had come for him to assess the damage that she had done. He didn’t need to finish it to see what she had done. He exhaled loudly, and was not quite able to form the words to express his feelings at the moment.

Never in his life had he wanted to back hand a woman so hard, as a matter of fact the idea of hitting a woman had never really crossed his mind before. While the idea of hitting her with her own essay work was tempting, the idea of it also disgusted him.

That’s no good.’ He thought. ‘Hitting a chick just isn’t right, even if that thing in front of you barely qualifies as a human being, let alone a woman.

Before he could really think his hands started shredding the essay into strips of paper, he was just taking his frustration out on the assignment. By the time he was done they were left with a pile of rough looking paper squares. He dumped them on the desk in front of Naomi.

There was nothing for him to say to her at that point, but it wouldn’t have stopped him from doing so once he had formulated the words.

“Gosh, I guess someone better paste that back together soon. I’m sure that someone as intelligent as you would be capable of doing so in a few minutes. I hope you like puzzles” He glanced around; making sure his voice wasn’t too audible to the others in the room. “Not that it makes any difference, since the entirety of this essay was a mess to begin with.”

He silently prayed that she would explode right then and there.

Naomi had not expected him to shred the essay. She had expected some kind of vandalism, yes. But not shredding. She just watched him rip apart the essay with a rather stony expression. Doing her best to keep the anger away from her face. It was easier than yesterday, most likely because she was at least prepared for the possibility of him being a stubborn moron.

Do you not realise that tearing up that essay would doom your mark as well, you pickpocketing crumb of leprechaun gold?!

Naomi stayed silent, although she raged and complained on the inside. Once Owen had dropped the pile of paper shreds in front of her, she stayed quiet for a few more seconds before letting out a loud yawn. A real yawn, but the dramatic timing for it was quite good.

"So. Your ego is so gigantic that you'd rather fail than have my work submitted? That's lovely. Really." Naomi stood up and removed her English notebook from her bag. She hurried past Owen towards the teacher's desk before opening the English book. Inside, she had the rough version of the essay from yesterday. And behind that, an extra copy of the edited essay. She'd assumed that Owen would demand and deface the essay if he had the chance... so what little time last night that she hadn't spent fixing up the essay had been spent copying it out a second time.

Unfortunately, she'd run out of green pen and had to use blue for that copy. A small loss, although it stung a little.

She handed the blue-ink copy to the teacher before returning back to her seat for her bag. She didn't say another word to Owen. Although, in a moment of immaturity, she stuck out her tongue at him. Just for a moment.

She spent most of the following English class asleep at her desk.

((Naomi Bell continued elsewhere.))
