Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

Welcome to V4 post-game. This is where you can wrap up the extenuating plot lines of characters rescued during V4. There are a few little restrictions/notes on metaplot information, though:

  • Realism rules are still in place. Your character may not become a secret agent, a serial killer, or anything else that breaks reality. Remember that these are high school kids, probably extremely traumatized ones.
  • STAR is not accepting recruits from among the rescued students. They will do what they can to help any students who do not wish to be returned home, but their influence is extremely limited when it comes to forging identities and such.
  • Post-game can cover whatever span of time you like, but do not reference things that will cause continuity snarls in the future. Remember that no SOTF games occur until at least 2011, and, more probably, 2012.
  • The terrorists do not hassle rescued students in any form. To all appearances, they have vanished off the face of the earth.
  • Bayview does, in fact, grant diplomas to anyone who makes it back.
  • Please check with the staff if you want to do anything that affects the world on a large scale, or if you wish to use the STAR characters or detail events between the rescue and the hospitalization in Canada.
  • No students are prosecuted for their actions on the island.
  • This board is for rescued characters only. If the handler of a rescued character co-writes something with you involving the family of one of your characters, or an NPC you wrote, or a character who did not make it to V4 proper, that is fine. Otherwise, the board should be left to the handlers of rescued characters.
  • By now, you know who all died except for perhaps 4-6 characters. You'll have to write around the winner. Also, remember that for three weeks, the broadcast is dead, so threads set in that time frame should not include knowledge of events on the island that occur after the latest announcement.
  • Post-game will remain open for eight weeks. At the end of that time, it will be closed, so that V4 actually ends with the epilogue.
  • The memories board will remain open for the first four weeks of post-game, in case anything still needs posting there. Then it will (finally) close.

To address a question: Yes, you can have another handler (without a survivor) write their character's family/their V4 person who stayed home/whatever. So long as it's just in your thread.

Also, for the moment, we're going to keep it to one thread at a time for each character in post-game.

Clarification/Adjustment: You may post one-shots in post-game while in other threads. We just want only one active thread at a time. The rationale behind this is that we don't want a bunch of threads abandoned/referencing each other in ways that become contradictory due to changing circumstances.

That said, we're looking at a possible further small revision, so stay tuned.

Update: Upon consultation, the staff agreed that it's cool if characters are in two active threads at once, on the condition that one of the threads is at least two years after the end of V4. This way, people can deal with their characters' far futures without it interfering with their ability to also tell their present stories, while at the same time avoiding the huge pile-ups and continuity snarls associated with multiple concurrent threads.

Since time's running short, and we know some folks have a good deal they want to get done, and there's not really time to make oodles of redundant threads anymore, the thread limit is hereby lifted for the last fifteen days of post-game. Just please be sure to link everything in chronological order when you're done.

Alright. We've had some questions from some handlers, and some requests for more time, and, specifically, questions relating to characters with strong ties to the finalists whose futures beyond the immediate month or so during which there is no broadcast will be affected by who dies. As such, we're revising things as follows:

On December 1st, as announced, post-game will close to new threads. This will be whenever I get around to it, probably in the early afternoon my time. Since there are a lot of threads ongoing, however, we will be allowing them to continue. The odds of anything truly major and V5 pregame-affecting occurring are very low.

Post-game will continue in response-only mode until a winner is determined. At that point, we will open post-game to new treads again for two weeks exactly, to allow time for characters who are affected by the deaths to deal with them. After those two weeks are done, we'll close post-game down permanently. V4 will end either there or with an epilogue from the winner, depending on what exactly happens in the finals.

Hopefully this gives everyone a tad more breathing room.

EDIT: Please be responsible and don't start tons of threads just to have space. the goal with this is to minimize unfinished threads, not create a bunch more.

And, post-game is closed to new threads.

If you put up a placeholder, please fill it ASAP. ASAP is pretty likely gonna have a deadline here soon, since there's been a lot of time to get stuff rolling and it's not fair to everyone who didn't get stuff in or who worked really hard to do so to leave empty threads as blank checks.

Since placeholders go rather against the spirit of the thread-closing deadline, and since everyone else has been restricted by the two-month deadline, the staff team has decided that placeholder thread openings need to be filled in some (actual narrative) capacity in the next three days, or they will be deleted. Remember, you will have a chance to start new threads and post one-shots in the two weeks after Endgame closes. Thank you for your compliance.

In light of the above announcement, to keep this forum from being cluttered with empty posts, and for fairness to the people who hit the deadline, we've deleted any placeholders left unfilled (Text has been saved in case there was some sort of mistake, though we think the rules/explanation was very clear. PM any appeals to Help. Do not address individual staffers on this, as it requires group attention and any individual rulings will be unreliable). There will be a chance to start new threads after endgame wraps. Post-game will reopen for two weeks, then close entirely. If you have a one-shot, we suggest you write it up between now and then and post it in the two weeks. If you want to do a thread with another person, you can even pre-write it over PM and just copy it to this board when it reopens to new threads. It just isn't fair to give a blank check to people who put empty threads up right before the deadline while not allowing the same time to those who did not meet it.

All rescued characters are still free to join any open threads and to post in Final Fates. If you want to do anything that has serious consequences on the world, please PM Help about it.

Post-Game is open for new threads for the next two weeks. Then it closes down permanently (to edits, too). Please get stuff in accordingly, and remember to use Final Fates if necessary.

Just a couple quick reminders:

a. Post-Game characters may be in however many threads at once
b. When Post-Game closes, it will be locked into read only mode, meaning posts will not be editable, so placeholding will not be a tenable strategy.

And we're done. Deleting discussion from Final Fates now to keep it pretty and clean.
