((Tim Q. continued from Youth and Beauty Brigade))

Tim's feet ached and a slight headache was pounding away behind his skull. He followed behind Colin and Jacob, trying to keep his complaints to a mere minimal, but it was hard. He wanted to whine and complain about how thirty and tired he was. He wanted to stop, sleep, rest his feet. But, alas, he kept his mouth shut. Colin and himself had stayed at that beach for a fair enough time. That was all the rest that he would allow himself to have. He needed to move now, and complaints were not going to cut it.

As the trio walked, the group was surprised to hear an announcement, one that was inappropriately timed in respects to the other daily announcements. This announcement didn't list deaths or kills, but announced the doings of some chick named Liz Polanski. The name sounded familiar, but Tim had never socialized with the gal. Was she trying to escape? Seriously? She had guts, that was for sure. Tim doubted he ever had the guts to escape -- nor the smarts.

The second half of the announcement was illustrated by none other than the Mr. Kwong. Tim raised his eyebrows in surprise, looking over at his two friends. A teacher that wasn't dead yet? This sparked a tiny bit of hope in his being, a bit of hope that seemed to say, "A living teacher? Maybe he can save us!" But his announcement was just as grim. And someone's collar got detonated as a result of Liz's doings.

Shit. Tim felt his jaw drop, and before he could pick it up off the floor, his thoughts began to race. That poor kid! Dead over some girl's doings. How selfish! But.. Liz couldn't have known that. She wouldn't have tried to escape if she had known someone would die, would she? It wasn't her fault. It was that Mr. Danya's.. Right? Tim shook his head. He wasn't sure whose fault it was, but he couldn't help but feel pity for that Daisuke boy. How unfortunate. "What if it was us...?" Tim pondered quietly, barely aware that he had spoken the words. He was shaking slightly, his teeth chattering as if the area around him had gone cold.

He didn't want to die because of Liz. He didn't care if she was going to escape, he didn't want to die! He didn't want his life in the hands of some girl!

The situation with Liz was, once again, something out of his control. Tim hated this. He was always the kind of guy that liked to have things in control. He was orderly. His grades were under control, his life was [usually] under control, his future was under control. Being placed on an island and forced to kill against your will? Not under control. This really irked Tim. Everything was beyond his reach, and it took everything inside of him not to freak out and use that gun that he kept in the waistband of his jeans.

He could kill like all the others. He could attempt to force a rugged path back home. He could do it if he wanted to. Did he want to? Well, not really. He doubted he had the guts. Besides, if someone started begging or crying or screaming.. It was over. Those things just melted his heart. Hell, Tim could barely watch horror movies or, embarrassingly, chick flicks (!) without sobbing.

Tim realized that his feet were moving. He quickened his stride in order to keep up with Colin. As the trio walked on and a water fountain came into view (how pretty, Tim remembered thinking), he was jarred from his thoughts by a loud beep. Touching his collar, he looked over at his friends in panic. Had they entered a danger zone?! But there were no more beeps and no one else spontaneously died, so Tim calmed down a little.

The announcements cracked to life. Three more people were eliminated. Tim's heart dropped. He was sure that he would be next. Hand flew up to collar, eyes dart about, heart beat wildly... More silence. No more deaths. He let out his held breath in a huff and stared at Colin, his eyes a little darty and paranoid. "Colin, I don't know how much more of that I can take," he admitted, managing a very small, cheesy smile.

"I'm so happy to see you again Bounce."

Tim looked over and realized that, not too far away from the trio, a girl had approached another girl near the fountain. "Hey, there are people over there," Tim stated, looking over at the girls. They didn't appear to be too intimidating, in fact, he recognized both of them from classes he had taken in the past.

He looked over at Jacob and nodded at his question. "I think it sounds like a good idea. Keeping over here by ourselves might look suspicious." Tim paused and sneaked another glance at the two girls. "What do you think, Col?"

Tim gave a weird look and kept looking back and forth, from the two girls at the fountain, to his two friends beside him. One of the girls had dropped down, and he honestly wasn't sure why. Were they afraid that the three boys were dangerous? Maybe they recognized Colin, and Colin's name had been broadcasted for killing Tony... Tim gave a nervous glance at Colin and shook his head. Maybe not. Maybe those girls were planning something. An attack or something? It was impossible to tell, but one thing was for sure: Those girls probably didn't want him or his friends to approach them. Something was definitely amiss.

Tim squinted his eyes. The smaller girl was reaching for something, and he took a few steps back, his eyes constantly darting back and forth. He was waiting for Colin or Jacob to offer some explanation to what was going on, some bit of help on how he should be feeling - alarmed or not. Should he be afraid? Should he walk away? Were they in any danger at all?

Jacob finally broke the silence, and Tim looked over at him, eyes wide and mouth agape. "I.. I.. I dunno?" He looked back over at the girls, in such a defensive position as if the boys were monsters or something. "I think I saw one of them reach for something though.. we might have to act fast," he whispered, trying to prepare for the very worst.

Another girl approached and headed over to the fountain where the other two girls were. Tim didn't recognize this one, but she seemed to take a similar stance to his own. She was pensive and unsure, or at least, that's what Tim thought. It was hard to tell when the three girls were a fair distance from him, and, well, he wasn't exactly a mind-reader. What in the hell was going on? His heart beat faster, his head spun in circles, but just like the three girls, he didn't act. He waited, his teeth biting firmly on his lips.

Colin took matters into his own hands and stepped forward, speaking directly to the girls. Tim wanted to grab Colin and drag him back, wanted to yell and hiss at him to stop, but he couldn't. Colin was already introducing himself, and Tim could only stand by, feeling absolutely useless. What if the girl, the one who reached for something, turned out to have a gun? She could shoot Colin, his best friend! Or they could recognize Colin's name (something he surmised a bit earlier) and grow more suspicious, but whatever happened, Tim didn't think anything good would come from this confrontation. That much was apparent when the three girls hit the deck.

There wasn't a response in kind to Colin, or at least not immediately. Tim was about to step forward and tell Colin to stay back, but one of the other girls stepped forward and spoke. Tim watched, his eyebrows raised as he listened. Wow... what an introduction. He didn't exactly expect the girls to accept them with open arms, but he did at least expect some friendly and polite responses. Nothing like.. 'leave us alone.' Really? Was Tim, Colin, and Jacob really that threatening? Or were the three girls just hiding something? Were they trying to throw them off balance so they could attack?

Tim took a few steps forward and stood beside Colin. He was shocked by the words that came out of his mouth, but he couldn't help it. He was tired and annoyed, overtly paranoid from the strange actions of these girls. His nerves were frayed and irritated. "Okay, then go your way. Leave. We were here first, so we're staying until you're gone. Got it?"

A small voice in Tim's head reminded him that the smaller girl had been here first. She was seated by the fountain when Tim and his trio arrived, but he didn't care. Who cared about logic and facts?

"Oh, I'm so ridiculous. Really? We were here first? Not likely, they'll catch me on that. Or will they? Those other two weren't here before.."

Tim wasn't sure why he did it, probably for the same reason he had mouthed off to Alice, but his hand reached back and retrieved the gun from the waistband of his jeans. He didn't aim it or anything, he just held it in his hands as if it were some kind of warning. He didn't exactly feel that the presence of these (seemingly) unarmed girls called for a gun or some form of self-defense, but he just wanted to let him know he had it. He wanted to let them know that if they tried anything funny, he had this, and he could give them hell if he wanted to.

Okay, even if he wanted to, he probably wouldn't, but damn it! He couldn't replace the gun, it was already out. And he couldn't admit that he was wrong, that they weren't here first and they should probably leave but, but..

He didn't know. He just stood there, his hand limply holding his gun, his eyes a mixture of both fear and bravado. After a few seconds of absolute and utter painful silence, Tim glanced at Colin from the corner of his eye and muttered, "Maybe we should, uh.." His voice died in his throat, for he wasn't sure what they should do. Walk away? Good god, what an interesting group of girls to run into.

Tim frowned very deeply when one of the girls ran for the other, shouting her name all the while. The one who was telling them to go away was named Alice, apparently. He would have took more careful note of that, but there was a streak of worry running through his mind. That girl, Bounce was it?, was worried that Tim would shoot. And Tim definitely wouldn't shoot, not at three girls who didn't seem very antagonistic. They weren't waving weapons around, they weren't shouting threats. They just simply told the boys to leave them alone, and here Tim was, playing the bad guy.

He wasn't bad. He was just scared, but it was no excuse now. He wanted to take it all back and yell that he was just kidding or something. But brandishing a gun would be a damn cruel joke.

Raising his gun in the air and shaking his palms in a show of, "I totally didn't mean that!" he began to shout, "No, no, wait! It's okay, I won't shoot, I-uh!" He swallowed hard and took a huge step back, his face turning slightly red. This was so dumb, he hadn't meant to freak anyone out like that! He was going to get himself killed alright, and it was all because of this stupid gun. It wouldn't be like that if he had a sword or binoculars or something...

Colin shouted at him to put the gun away, and Tim was surprised because he'd never heard Colin use an expletive before. It was sort of amusing, but not really, since his frantic, loud voice held a great deal of truth. Why the fuck was he holding the gun? Like, seriously? It all seemed so stupid. Ugh. "Y-Yeah, I'm so sorry!" Tim shouted, trying to make his eyes hold an apologetic look, but, mostly, his eyes just looked frantic and panicked. With a smooth movement, Tim slipped the gun back into the waistband of his pants and held his hands out to show that he was no longer armed. He didn't think that his gesture would particularly fix anything, but it was a small gesture, all the same.

Colin managed to surprise Tim again, his voice snappy and sharp as he sternly asked if Tim had a plan. Once again, Tim put his palms in the air and shook his head slowly, his eyes floating down to stare at the hard ground beneath him. "No.. No, forget it."

Once again, he wanted to apologize or turn around and walk away, but something kept his feet glued firmly to the ground. His eyes turned up and looked at each of the girls in turn; it all felt so nightmarish. Everyone was stuck in place, and if Tim was a painter, he was sure that this would make for a very tense and beautiful painting. It would be called "Stare" and the painting would just be four girls and three boys staring each other down. One particularly blonde boy was holding a gun, and one particularly... Wait, what? Vic was holding a gun too! How long had she been holding it?

Now Tim's paranoia felt a little justified, and he was about to reach back and grab his gun, but before he could even think about it, the armed girl threw her bags off, took off her jacket, and ran off. And Tim felt completely at fault. Would she have left if Tim hadn't took out his gun? Did Tim just lose Bounce's group a member? "Wait!!" he shouted, but it was too late. She was gone, and it just made him feel even worse.

He sighed and faced Alice. Apparently the two girls before him hadn't noticed Vic's scramble to safety, and if they had, they weren't showing any sign of it. Alice made a demand, and Tim wasn't foolish enough to disobey twice. "Put your gun away and go back the way you came."

Tim swallowed hard and nodded. "Okay. Okay, okay." The next part, he said in a much softer voice. "But I wasn't going to hurt you guys, I'm sorry." A pause, and he looked over at Jacob and Colin, his face sunken in and shadowed. "Let's just go."

Tim looked over at Jacob as he informed the boys that he was going to go ahead and look for his bag. Before Tim could comment or argue, Jacob was gone and all Tim could do was watch. His little carefully formed trio was now just a duo, and exactly how long would that keep up? What if Colin decided to ditch him too? Everyone seemed to be bailing. That armed girl bailed on her little team, Jacob was gone.. Everyone seemed to be leaving, and soon Tim would either be alone or dead. He wasn't sure which one was worse.

"Crap," Tim muttered, watching as Jacob's form disappeared. "I hope we catch up with him soon.. I kinda liked the three of us traveling together. He was alright, nice, ya know?" That and Tim felt like he helped Jacob. Colin and Tim had saved Jacob from suicide! It bonded the three together, kept them close.. They shared emotions and secrets, and it wasn't until much later that Tim would realize that Jacob was gone forever - never to be seen walking upon this green earth.

He could hear Jacob slamming through buildings, presumably looking for his bags, and he also heard Colin speak to Tim, instantly clearing his troubles. He told Tim not to worry about it, and Tim obediently nodded, in-taking air through his nose. "Yes, we should go.. Sorry," he said, tacking on another apology. He just couldn't help it, he felt as if he'd never be able to adequately apologize for that stupid gun-brandishing mistake. He just felt so bad!

As Colin lead Tim off in the direction where Jacob supposedly was, Tim turned around and managed a really half-hearted wave in the direction of the female trio. Colin rattled off a quick apology, and Tim followed suit. "Yes, we're leaving! And I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-uh-scare you guys!" He shut his mouth before he began rambling off more thoughtless apologies, and the two guys were off, off to search for Jacob.

But Tim was just glad that he still had Colin. Colin was still sticking by his side and nothing had changed... Still two good friends, the comfort of music between them. Sure, the music wasn't physical - it wasn't a tune that they could both actively hear, but it was a tune that replayed constantly in Tim's mind. It was a reminder of how he and Colin met, that day in the coffee shop... The songs that Colin preformed and Tim watched even though he had so much homework that he should have been working on...

The music would never stop, and Tim would always remember those songs, even after his time on this dreaded island. Even in death.
