((Harun Kemal continued from Don't go breaking my heart...))

Harun Kemal stifled a yawn as he slowly walked forward through the forest, his awkward sword-gun thing scraping along the ground, leaving a small trail in the dirt. He had bags under his eyes and a big hole in his stomach. He'd tried sleeping last night in a small secluded clearing he'd found in the forest, but between the general discomfort of the dirty ground he was resting on and the anxiety, paranoia and depression plaguing his mind, he'd only managed a couple of hours at the most, and spent most of the night fidgeting or sobbing quietly to himself. When he did finally fall asleep, his much-needed rest was brutally cut short by the first of Danya's daily announcements. While he wasn't particularly close to any of the names he'd heard mentioned by the sadistic terrorist behind all this, the fact people he'd seen in the corridors or had classes with for the last few years were already either dead or murderers didn't exactly help his current mental situation, and despite trying in vain to carry on his sleep from where he left off, he couldn't.

He'd also tried eating as well. The soups that Hermione had given him were, to put it bluntly, crap. Harun appreciated the gesture, but they had the taste and texture of soggy, mouldy cardboard, like most of the gluten-free food he'd had over the years. It was probably just the flavour of the soup he'd tried or the fact they were uncooked and had been tumbling about in his bag for several hours, but even in his state of hunger, Harun struggled to get the soup down. And he was eating it without any cutlery, having to pour it straight from the packet into his mouth or scoop it up with his dirty hands, which wasn't making things any easier.

After gulping down half of the packet's contents, Harun had had enough, and, seeing as he couldn't exactly put a bag of soup that had been ungracefully torn open back in his bag without coating all his other supplies in a thick layer of icky soup, he'd just left the packet behind, propped up unceremoniously against a tree. If those anti-littering campaigns had taught Harun one thing, it was that leaving litter behind willy-nilly would probably end up hurting or killing some poor critter, and normally he would have made sure to finish up the food and then chuck it in an appropriate bin, but right now Harun honestly didn't give a damn. He still had a couple of the packets, some snacks and a few bottles of water, so Harun thought he had nothing to worry about in terms of food.

However, his attempts to sleep and eat the soup were both several hours ago, and since then Harun had just been walking around the forest aimlessly, growing increasingly exhausted and hungry as he did so. Aside from Rashid, he hadn't actually talked to or encountered anyone (he had seen or heard a few people in the distance, but no-one he was particularly close to), which suited Harun just fine.

However, as he carried on walking, he suddenly heard talking. Definitely a girl's voice. Or a prepubescent male, but he didn't think many of those were in Bayview's senior class. So, yeah, probably a girl. Despite the fact that he had been avoiding everything else, he was kinda curious to see who it was. Motioning to Rashid to be silent, he whispered "I'm gonna see who's over there. Come with me if you want, but we gotta be quiet." Holding his sword revolver at the ready, he began to creep over to where the voice was coming from. He was now able to tell that they were two voices there, both girls. Crawling carefully through a bush, his ears focused on their conversation, he peeked through the leaves to get an idea of the scene in front of him.

Next to a tree, was a girl he recognised as Madeleine something or other. The other girl, one closer to him, was Rosa Fiametta, who he didn't really know that well but had quite a reputation around Bayview as being both attractive and, in a more negative light, a bit of a slut. She was also topless, and, Harun being a heterosexual teenage male, he couldn't help but stare at her...assets...for a bit. Harun didn't get much of a glimpse before she put on her tanktop (which in itself wasn't exactly a conservative piece of clothing), but still. Damn.

Considering he'd heard Rosa say she was changing quite clearly, he really only had himself to blame for his act of accidental perversion. Not knowing whether he should be ashamed or happy about the little peek he got, he withdrew from the bush, hoping not to make too much noise.

Scrambling to his feet, he turned to Rashid, unsure of whether he had also got a quick peek at Rosa topless, and quietly said "Right...erm...it's Madeleine something and Rosa Fiametta....think we should go say hello to them?"

As Harun bent down to brush some dirt off of his jeans, Rashid replied to his suggestion, agreeing with his idea to go say hello to the girls. Truth be told, he'd only suggested it because he had no idea how to react to the sight of Rosa Fiametta topless, and just running off afterwards would probably make Rashid and the people watching at home think Harun had just deliberately committed the voyeuristic equivalent of a hit-and-run. Looking at his companion as he returned to his normal posture, it was pretty obvious from Rashid's facial expression that he too had witnessed Rosa topless. His exact opinion on it however was rather hard to decipher. Unsure whether Rashid would be willing to joke about it or even discuss it (to be brutally honest, Harun wasn't one hundred percent sure Rashid was even completely straight, taking last night into account), Harun just flashed him a brief and awkward smile.

That half-hearted smile on Harun's face soon disappeared when he realised what Rashid probably wanted him to do. He wanted Harun to make the first move and go and talk to the two girls in the clearing. Harun wasn't good at talking to girls he hardly knew in a platonic sense, and talking to a girl he'd just seen half-naked would be out of the question under normal circumstances. Hell, Harun would say it was out of the question in these circumstances, but still, aside from being potentially embarrassing, he couldn't see any real reason not to.

Rosa didn't seem to be the type to play. Maybe the type to sleep her way into the final ten, but not the type to go around stabbing or shooting people. Madeleine (he hadn't been thinking about her nearly as much. The fact he hadn't seen her naked from the waist up may have had something to do with that), from what little he remembered of her, also didn't seem the type to play the game (and by playing the game, Harun meant going along with Danya's depraved terrorist event, not playing "the game", which he had just lost. But, just like in the middle of exams or moments of silence following a tragedy, being in the middle of a killing game was one of the few situations where Harun guessed it was permissible to not announce one's loss publicly.)

So, pausing to collect his thoughts, he began to walk at a steady pace towards the clearing, heading for what looked like it would be a thin layer of foliage. Pushing his way through it, he emerged a short distance away from Rosa. "Uh...hey girls...just heard you talking and thought that...." This was pretty awkward. Harun was trying to avoid looking at Rosa for obvious reasons, instead switching between looking at Madeleine and staring at his trainers that one of his cousins had brought for him the last time he visited Turkey (in return he had brought him one of the many mediocre Simpsons games. The cousin in question was 9, and at that age licensed games were pretty much the best thing in the world). He began idly drawing a line in the dirt with his sword-revolver while he paused to scratch his nose. "Erm...just thought I'd see if you were both alright, that's all...."

Resisting the urge to add an awkward "so yeah" at the end, Harun resumed staring at the ground. He'd messed this up pretty bad. The fact he probably looked really flustered and embarrassed and probably had a face as red as the flag of the USSR didn't help.

((REALLY sorry about the delay.))

Continuing to avert his eyes from Rosa, Harun listened as Madeleine asked him whether he had any intention of using the sword-gun.

To be honest, Harun was expecting that he'd end up having to use it eventually, even if only in self-defence. However, he had no intention of using it against the two girls that stood before him. Obviously, going into a long-winded explanation that he was planning to use the sword-gun but only in specific situations would probably just make them nervous and send off the wrong message, so he would just say that he had no plans on using his weapon.

However, before he could reply and end the awkward silence that had temporarily befallen the group, he was cut off by the start of the next of Danya's announcements. Blinking his eyes rapidly, he tried to clear his mind and focus on Danya's arrogant monologue about the latest kills and deaths.

It was hard to listen to. It made him feel a strange mixture of disgust, sadness, nostalgia and paranoia. So far, no-one he would say he was close to had been listed as killed or a killer, but these were still people he'd spent the past few years (and in some cases, longer) with.

Then Madeleine was listed matter-of-factly by Danya as a killer.

Immediately, Harun's thoughts switched from the announcement and Rosa to the other girl near him.

Maybe he'd misheard it?

No.

She'd killed someone.

Maybe it was self-defence, maybe it wasn't. But he was still pretty damn close to a killer.

Quickly raising his sword-gun to his side, he glared at Madeleine, praying she wouldn't make any sudden movements or suddenly whip out an SMG or something and instantly turn into a cackling madwoman. "Just...tell us what happened..." Harun asked, his voice quivering.

So apparently it was self-defence or something like that?

Keeping his eyes firmly locked onto Madeleine as she tried to convince them that she was justified in killing Jonathan Jarocki, Harun wondered how exactly to respond to the first killer he'd met on the island. To be honest, she seemed sincere, but Harun hardly knew the girl well at all; for all he knew, she might just be one of those manipulative bitches who was REALLY good at acting nice, innocent and vulnerable, deceiving people, getting friendly with them, and just when their guard was down, stabbing them in the back and leaving them alone to rot. Or, she might genuinely just be someone who got shot at by a guy (Harun didn't really know this Jarocki kid either, not feeling any real emotional attachment to him, and he didn't know whether he was the sort of guy to go all batshit and shoot at a girl and her friends) and then, in panic, shot back at him in response, only to kill him instantly. Of course, it may have been the other way round (Madeleine may have been the aggressor, except unlike Jarocki she may have had better aim) but still.

Innocent until proven guilty, right?

Knowing full well that that mindset could very well come back to bite him in the arse, Harun prepared to lower his gun and begin talking on a more civil level with Madeleine and Rosa (Harun was still unaware she had abandoned the scene the moment the faintest hint of trouble appeared during the announcement. In a strange reversal from what it was before the announcement, his mind was now firmly on Madeleine). However, Rashid decided to choose this moment to speak up.

"Just fucking start shooting already!"

"Oh, shut the fuck up!" Harun turned around slightly, so that his gun (which he was now holding at his hip) and his eyes were aimed straight at his companion and friend. "Seriously, Rashid, we're trying to act all fucking maturely here, we're trying to NOT kill each other, but noooo, you want us to "start shooting already." Well, if you had a gun...oh wait. You don't. You just have fucking iodine pills. Seriously, man, I got enough fucking problems without you wanting to turn every situation into a fucking firefight." The bit about him having enough problems was undeniably true. Aside from the fact that he had to accept that him and all his friends were probably going to die nasty, horrid deaths within a short while, he had things like food and privacy and giant animals and all that to worry about. Not to mention the fact that the more hormonal part of his mind still wanted to think about Rosa. Which was not helping.

"Seriously, Rashid, man...just keep your mouth shut if you ain't got anything intelligent to say. Just let me do the talking. You're my friend, but I don't think that gives you an excuse to get me killed." Just like with Harun's offer to do the fighting for the pair while back in the mansion, this was a bit strange, seeing that Harun was definitely somewhat socially awkward. But, clumsy socially awkward mutterings were a lot less likely to cause problems than impulsively yelling out "let's all shoot each other lol" like it was a video game. Turning back to Madeleine to make sure she hadn't decided to pull out a knife and stab him in the back while he was distracted with Rashid, he said "Right, sorry about that. I believe you. For now." Looking at where Rosa was standing, he noticed she had gone. "Damn....Rosa's left. Probably because of you, Rashid."

((Any Godmodding from here approved))

Despite his reassurances to Maddy, she decided to run away unannounced while he was focused on Rashid. By the time Harun registered her leaving, she was already out of sight, and despite calling out her name half-heartedly once or twice, she didn't come back.

Absolutely fucking great.

There were three likely explanations for explaining why every girl Harun had met so far (with the possible exception of Mia) hadn't really seemed to trust him much: the people he'd encountered so far (aside from Rashid and Mia) had all become extremely paranoid already, Harun had suddenly become a lot more unintentionally intimidating and untrustworthy since arriving on the island, or Rashid was just scaring people off with his idiocy. Or a mixture of all three. To be honest, two fairly tall loud-mouthed young Muslim males were hardly on the top of many people's lists to trust in a terrorist situation (bloody stereotypes; people who sincerely believed they were all true were one of Harun's pet peeves), but that still didn't make it any less irritating.

Still, a few unlucky incidents shouldn't damper his spirits. No-one had killed him yet, which was a good sign. Dying sounded really depressing, to say the least. He'd had the fortune of waking up near Rashid, a guy he knew quite well and could trust, despite his impulsiveness and boisterous nature, and he just had to find some of his friends....the guys from the activist club would be his best bet. He got on with them fine for the most part, and they were some of the most likely candidates for a successful escape plot.

However, what Harun hadn't taken into consideration while doing some on-the-spot planning was the fact that Rashid was now running at him, with an intent that could hardly be described as friendly. As Rashid began letting out an almost war-cry-like yell and ran at Harun, Harun was left little time to react aside from changing his expression to one that could be summed up as an "oh shit" face.

As Rashid collided with into Harun, Harun toppled onto the ground, letting out a frustrated grunt of pain. The bag on his back both cushioned his fall and made it slightly more uncomfortable (and several crunching sounds were heard as the contents of the bag were smothered between the considerable weight of Harun and the floor), his sword-gun landing harmlessly a few feet away. A look of shock and panic spreading across his face (with similar feelings popping up in his mind), Harun looked up at Rashid. Harun had to admit; he was pretty fucking scared of Rashid at that point.

Before he knew it, Rashid was on top of him, doing that thing that Harun had seen a lot in both the movies and real life; where the attacker accompanied every syllable they shouted with a well-timed punch to their victim's defenceless, vulnerable face. Needless to say, it would be an understatement to say it was uncomfortable and painful. The petrified, panicky boy's thoughts could be summed up quite simply as "OH SHIT HE'S PUNCHING MY FACE IN".

However, despite his nerdy, awkward behaviour, Harun was not weak. It may not have been that noticeable to the casual observer, but Harun WAS bigger than Rashid, and, after what must have been the fifth (or sixth? Harun had kinda lost count) punch from Rashid, he got over the initial confusion and shock, gathered his thoughts, and slowly began to respond to Rashid's violence. Up until then, Harun's hands had been lying limp at his sides, doing nothing of use, but they quickly moved to cover Harun's face and block any further blows. Rashid threw yet another punch at Harun at that moment, and, in response, Harun clumsily grabbed onto the hand tightly, temporarily bringing it to a halt and stopping the momentum of the punch. He clenched his free hand into a fist, and threw a punch at Rashid's face before he could respond.

That one punch to the skull seemed to leave Rashid groggy and dazed, and before he could recover and fight back, Harun, with all the force he could muster, pushed Rashid off of him, and hastily propelled himself to his feet. He quickly spotted the swordgun lying nearby, and, aside from a bit of dirt and a couple of flies that had decided to rest on it, it was fine. Before Rashid could recover, Harun dashed over to the swordgun and scooped it up in his left hand (his right hand ached for some reason), causing the flies to scatter. He then turned back to Rashid, and held the blade to his throat, only an inch from his skin.

Shaking with a mixture of fear, rage, anguish and stress, Harun managed to talk. "Seriously, man. What. The. Fuck. Was that for?"

"You think I'm useless, you son-of-a-bitch!"

Oh, so that was why.

Looking back, Harun couldn't exactly see how he'd managed to give Rashid that impression. Sure, the island had already made him somewhat more impatient and a bit less sensitive than he was before, but Harun would have remembered it if he'd told one of his friends they were useless. And he definitely hadn't done that.

Maybe Rashid was reading between the lines (like English teachers always said to do when they were preparing you to write an essay on some overrated book) and coming to false conclusions? That was a possibility. Or maybe Rashid was just paranoid as fuck. And, considering the situation they were in, Harun couldn't really blame him. But Rashid was still wrong. The truth was pretty simple; Harun really appreciated the company and the support Rashid was offering, especially in a situation where most people ran away at the first hint of trouble (or alternatively tried to kill you.)

Which meant that he was quite irritated with Rashid doing what Harun saw as putting words in his mouth.

"Listen, Rashid", Harun muttered, moving the swordgun to a less hostile position by his side, as he prepared to come up with suitable words to calm Rashid down. "I didn't mean to imply you were useless. To be honest, I really appreciate you sticking by me in this place. That means a lot to me. And...you made a mistake, I won't lie. But...frankly....I need you to get through this with me. We can't turn on each other, or else Danya's won. And Danya's a shithead who doesn't deserve to win...so...erm...let's get you back up on your feet." He reached out with his shaky free hand, hoping that Rashid would take it and that his words hadn't aggravated Rashid even more.

((Apologies for crappy post, wrote this in a hurry.))

Harun took a couple of steps back as Rashid got to his feet to give him some space, nervously eyeing his companion as he regained his composure, loosening the tight grip his trembling hand had on the swordgun to hopefully appear less threatening and more relaxed. Hopefully Rashid had gotten over that little bout of paranoia, and didn't hold any further ill feelings towards Harun. If he was going to die an obscenely painful and tragically premature death on this isolated island, he'd rather be killed by someone who he didn't consider a friend.

Once Rashid was firmly on his feet instead of trying to convert Harun's face into a thick, icky paste with his fists, there was a brief silence, as Harun allowed his mind to wander while thinking of a comment to make to break the awkward silence that had befallen their part of the woods. Scratching an itch on his chin, he finally spoke, his eyes staring upwards towards the tree tops.

"So...got a plan for where to go next, Rashid?"

He let out a sigh as his eyes returned to staring at the ground, and, exhausted, depressed and grouchy, he leaned against the nearest tree, slouching against it sloppily.

Like Harun, Rashid also seemed to like the idea getting out of this area. It wasn't exactly tranquil or peaceful, the ground was muddy and uncomfortable, and there was a pretty bad memory associated with the place that Harun wanted to put behind them. Hell, even the shade the tree-tops offered looked patchy at best.

And so, grabbing onto a few bumps and grooves in the nearby tree for support, Harun climbed to his feet, stretched his limbs and let out a yawn. Rubbing an itchy area behind his left ear and pulling his bag (which he was still unaware was filled with crushed crackers and torn, leaking bags of soup) back up his shoulders, he turned to Rashid, absentmindedly motioning to him to get upright too.

"Well....I guess we'll get out of here first, find somewhere to rest. We'll look at those maps we got there. Can't be arsed to take mine out now." Harun could do with a little rest; he was getting exhausted. His eyelids were becoming heavy and that tussle he'd just been in had used up even more energy. "Then, from there..." A pause to sigh. "I dunno. Wander about aimlessly until we meet someone we know who doesn't wanna kill us, I dunno." He shrugged, weakly kicking some uninteresting, insignificant pebbles on the floor in boredom.

Having decided against procrastinating any further, he turned around and began walking away from the small clearing, dragging his feet and kicking up dirt as he did so. "Well, let's go." Briefly turning his head to check Rashid was behind him, he set out.

((Harun Kemal continued in Gypsy Rap.))
