Jerard Boucher was burning rubber down the streets of Barnes as Louisa Boucher panted heavily in the passenger seat. She was early, and they had to dash out of their house at top speed, without a moment to grab the essentials. Sure, Jerard could always get those things later, but there was no time for thinking of that right now. Right now, Louisa was getting ready to go in labour! Hurrying through to the reception of the hospital, Louisa was quickly placed in a wheelchair as the receptionist took down the details, before she was wheeled off down the corridor, Jerard in quick pursuit. As the labour unfolded, and the hours crawled by, so many thoughts flew in and out of Jerard's mind: What will she look like? What will she do? Who will she take after? Will she like me? His mind reeled with all these different ideas, as he nervously watched his future as a father unfold. Louisa was a little preoccupied to be thinking too hard. After twenty hours of labour, it was finally over. The midwife held their child, and happily announced “It's a girl!” Louisa and Jerard held their daughter together, tears of joy filling their eyes. They were parents! They had a complete family, and now they could start the next part of their lives together: raising their child as a team. “What should we call her?" They didn't want to pick a name before hand: they wanted to look into their child's eyes and let her tell them what her name is. And now, they were looking into her wonderful blue little eyes, and just couldn't decide on what to call her. “Why don't we name her after your mother?” Louisa asked. “You mean Marguerite? Maybe...” Jerard responded, not being a huge fan of the name. It just didn't seem to suit his little angel. His daughter looked back at him, her eyes speaking for themselves as the name popped into his mind. “Alice. Alice Marguerite Boucher.” She was named for Jerard's sister, who had passed away not two years ago in a tragic accident. Jerard could see the love he had for his sister glinting in his daughter's eyes, and knew that the name suited her perfectly. Alice Boucher was born. Edited by Slam, May 6 2010, 08:37 AM.

“Mama, why does Daddy always have to work so much?” Alice Boucher was a young toddler. Her hair, still brown with the essence of youth, was steadily growing longer by the minute as her mother continued to style it in the manner she deemed cute, despite her constant insistence that Alice stop chewing it. The young French girl, however, was only concerned with playing her games and exploring the world around her. “Because Alice, he is a very busy man.” Louisa Boucher replied, ever so slightly biting the bottom of her lip. Jerard Boucher was a busy man, and so Alice usually only got to see him on the weekends. “But what is he doing, Mama?” A question often asked, but never replied save a skirting response. “Important things for our wellbeing Alice. I’ve told you I don’t like it when you ask questions like that.” A frown formed on the child’s mouth, she just wanted to know what her daddy was always doing. Ring ring, ring ring. Louisa Boucher answered the phone with the typical response. On the other line, Jerard Boucher. “Louisa, I’ve got excellent news. You remember the Grosvenors? The pigeons finally fell for it, and I’ve got the money! We’re loaded!” He wasn’t lying; the Boucher family had just made a fortune, well worth more than an upper class family’s income in over a year. After a brief pause by Louisa, rapid speech of joy and happiness flew back and forth between the two of them over the phone line, as Alice just looked at her mother and smiled in synchronicity. “What is it Mama?” “We’re rich Alice! We’re rich!” Rich wasn’t a concept very familiar to the child, but she could see that her mother was exceedingly happy, and that was enough to make her happy! “Did Daddy do good at work?” Louisa’s happiness and energy was quickly drained from her, as she looked down at her daughter with solemn eyes. “Yes, he did.” Looking up at the roof of their moderate home, Louisa sighed as she made a cross across her chest with her finger, addressing herself to her God. “May the Lord have mercy on his soul.” Of course, Alice couldn’t understand what her mother meant by this, and she still had no idea what her father did for a living. By the will of her mother, she never would find out how the family gained their vast wealth either. All that she knew was that every few months an event like this would happen, and every few months they seemed to have more money. Even as she got older and the concept of money became more and more important to the girl, the huge income their family received was never really her prime concern. All she wanted was for her Dad to be less busy with his job, so that she could spend more time with him. Her father was always busy with work though: the work which Alice would never know Edited by Slam, Feb 25 2010, 05:50 AM.

“Now here’s your lunch Alice, and remember if anything goes wrong you should tell a teacher straight away.” Alice was scared. It was a cool September morning and like most six year olds, Alice was starting her first day of primary school. Also like most six year olds, she was very, very nervous. “Mama! I don’t wanna go!” She wasn’t ready to give up those days where she’d spend all her time at home with her mother, having fun and not caring about anything in the world. Even nursery school didn’t seem like such a problem to the little girl, who’d gotten to learn interesting things and still enjoy plenty of play. But this was primary school. Everything would be different now and she knew it. “Now Alice, last night you couldn’t get to sleep because you were so excited. Stop being such a baby, and act like a big girl.” Louisa Boucher wanted her daughter to be strong: silliness was not an option in her books. No, Alice would have to go to school eventually, and for her to be all excited one minute and nervous the next was not the sort of behaviour she would encourage. “If you decide that something will be exciting Alice, you must stick by that opinion until you finish.” The young child’s lip quivered, ready to burst into tears. She would be set upon the school system, all alone for the first time since she started nursery, without knowing any of the other children at the school due in part to her family moving not two months ago. Anyone would be nervous at that point. Louisa kneeled down to Alice’s level and gave her a firm look of authority, which Alice understood as the signal to toughen up and be strong. There was one last hug from her mother, before Louisa stepped out the door and left Alice in the classroom, all on her own. Edited by Slam, May 6 2010, 08:40 AM.

It was Alice's first ever playtime at primary school, and she had decided to take advantage of the sandbox. Enclosed on all four sides, Alice could idly waste by the minutes building sandcastles to avoid the fact that she had yet to meet anyone new at the school; she had been introduced to everyone along with everyone else during register, but she hadn't opened her mouth once since then. Instead of looking for people though, she would do was play on her own for now, and hope that nothing bad happened. “Hi!” As a dark shadow loomed over her, Alice looked up and was met with another little girl, who's long blonde hair contrasted her own locks, whos' previous brown hue had quickly darkened to black over the years. She stood over Alice, staring down at her with an innocent grin. “I'm Bella!” A girl was introducing herself to Alice, who not moments ago was moping alone in a box of dirt. Surely this was a good thing for the young child? “I'm Alice.” she greeted the arrival, with as friendly a smile as she could muster through her shyness. Whilst Alice didn't know this Bella, it was nice to finally be talking to someone. “Let's play together!” the young child exclaimed, hoping down next to Alice. Whilst she was scared of this forward girl at first, she still wanted to play with the sand, and after a few moments of nervousness it didn't take long for the two of them begin working on the sandcastle to end all sandcastles, with a princess and a moat and a thousand sand guards! The two had become detached from the rest of the playground as time went by, until another voice interrupted their fun: “Can I play too?” A new small child had appeared, this one a boy. Little Chane was also alone at school like Alice had been not moments ago, and like Alice he wanted to meet someone else. As a result, he was kneeling down to join the girls in their sandcastle efforts, hoping to have some fun alongside them. At least until Bella intervened. “No!” With her squealing laugh and a whip of her hand, she had thrown sand straight in the poor boy's face. With his eyes stinging, Chane ran off in tears, away from the two girls. Bella continued to laugh at him as he ran away crying, before turning to Alice with a wide grin on her face. “That was funny!” she nodded enthusiastically, before returning to their sandcastle project. Alice looked at where Chane had run off to. Wasn't it bad to make people cry? At least, she was pretty sure that it was. Hadn't church always taught her to be nice to people? But Bella was laughing, and people laughed when things were good. Alice guessed that must've meant there wasn't anything wrong with making someone cry if it made you laugh. Looking back at Bella, Alice sat with her to the end of playtime. And even after she saw her being told off by the teacher and forced to apologise, Alice still sat next to Bella on the carpet. After all, she wanted a friend at school, and that friend had met her on that day in the sandbox. Edited by Slam, May 6 2010, 08:42 AM.

It had been eight years since Alice Boucher watched Bella throw sand in Little Chane’s eyes, and like every girl she had changed quite a lot: she had grown taller; her circle of friends had expanded; her breasts were developing; she realised the truth about the people she hang out; she was thinking about a lot with her growth. Right now, she was thinking that her best friend was a total bitch. It was lunchtime at her collége, and Alice was sat besides a table with her friends facing away from the rest of her group and frowning with annoyance. Bella, of course, was sat at the head of the table, and by far was the most obnoxious. She’d laugh that stupid squealing laugh of hers that fit the pig so appropriately, before stuffing her face with another handful of chips. And of course, being stupidly loud and annoying wasn’t enough for her: she had to always make sure that she dressed as much like a whore as possible. Christ, with the clothes she wore you just knew she was begging for attention, and she was only fourteen! Alice rolled her eyes with irritation as Bella made another one of her stupid jokes, hormones pumping through her bodies at full speed. Bella had always been a pain, hadn’t she? She always took food from her lunch at school without asking, and she always told Amber that she didn’t like her new pencil cases, and she checked out the same guys she did. She just, it was just, she was a total bitch! An absolute bitch and she called herself her best friend! “What do you think Alice?” That annoying voice was addressing her, asking for her opinion on whatever stupid shit she was on about. What did she care? She wasn’t interested; she was just pissed off at that bitch Bella! She had to be put in her place, right there and then! “What do I think!? I think you can take your fat mouth and stick it up your arse, you stupid slut! God, all you do is blab on and on about the stupidest things ever, and it’s all so fucking retarded!” She was practically screaming at this point, oblivious to the attention she was attracting from the rest of the cafeteria. “You’re, you’re just so – GAH! You’re so fucking irritating Bella I can’t even think what to say! Go fuck your mum!” She was so outraged, she would have thrown her lunch tray at the best friend she was insulting if it wasn’t for the lack of one. Instead, she settled for sticking her middle finger up at Bella, and storming out the cafeteria and out the school, blinded by her bodily rage. ---------- Alice was crying by her pool, sat alone on the deck chair, her long hair draping over her face as she wept next to the gleaming water. Why had she been such a bitch?! Bella hadn’t done anything to her, she had just been talking to her in her usual stupid way! Sure, she was irritating as anything, but damn it she didn’t deserve to get screeched at by some emotional wreck who couldn’t keep her own temper under control! What the fuck was she supposed to do now?! Whilst she yelled at herself for her inability to keep herself in check, Louisa Boucher walked into the glass building, eyeing up her distressed daughter. She had received a phone call whilst out shopping from her principal, being informed of her outburst and truancy from her afternoon classes. It was the last thing she wanted to have to come home and deal with, but if her daughter was upset then she couldn’t just leave her to mope alone. Sitting by her daughter, Alice looked up into the eyes of her mother, her own pupils still glazed over with tears. “Mother, I’m such a bitch!” she cried, her mother clenching with annoyance at her use of such crude language. “Bella, she was just minding her own business, and I was a complete bitch to her! I said horrible things to her, and now she’ll never want to talk to me again!” Sighing exasperatedly, Louisa took Alice in her arms and cradled her against her chest, wiping her eyes with her finger. “There there, my angel. It isn’t the end of the world.” She rolled her eyes as Alice sobbed harder into her bosom, unhappy with her emotional insecurity. “You cannot cry every time you lose your temper with someone Alice, you know that. I have raised you to be a strong, independent woman, and you must accept that at times you shall make mistakes. If you do not move on and learn from these mistakes, then you’re acting like a fool.” Alice looked up into her mothers hard eyes, searching for comfort. She had made a mistake by yelling at Bella; she had to accept that. However, she also had to learn and move on now, by being sure not to lose her temper like that again. She had to learn from her mistake. Nodding solemnly and wiping the still damp tears from her eyes, her mother returned her nod in approval and hugged her tight, pleased that Alice understood her lesson. She wouldn’t punish her for running away from her classes for the day, if only because she had still learnt an important lesson. It wasn’t the best way to do so, but at least it got the point across. “You must decide now whether it is worth it to apologise to Bella, however.” Louisa continued, inserting her own personal desires into her lesson. She had never liked Bella that much, and she wasn’t afraid to make it known. She was a loud, obnoxious girl, and she had gotten on both of the Boucher women’s nerves on more than one occasion; it bewildered her why her daughter was still friends with her. Alice however, felt confused by her mother’s words. She had been friends with Bella for years, and even if she did annoy her a lot, she couldn’t just up and break off the friendship over one fight, could she? Why was her mother telling her this? Unless of course, her mother had a reason to suggest such a thing, which she always did. Maybe she was right, since Bella was annoying after all. There were other people at her collége she could hang out with, and even then she’d be finished with it in a few weeks. She could go to whatever lycée she went to and start a whole new circle of friends, without that stupid cow Bella and her stupidly annoying squealing laugh! She could have a fresh start with people that didn’t piss her off so immensely! “Mother, you are right! I don’t need to talk to Bella anymore! She’s just a stupid bitch anyway.” she said firmly up at her mother, once again prompting a frown of annoyance at her language. “I’ll make a new bunch of friends, or just keep my old ones and get her kicked out. I don’t need to see Bella again!” her rage grew once more as she spoke, picturing all the times that Bella had gotten on her nerves. She was just a pain in the arse: one which she could live without. She didn’t need Bella; the only thing she needed was her out of her life as soon as possible! Still riddled with hormones, Alice thanked her mother once more with a big hug, before striding out of the pool area and up towards her room. Later on, Alice Boucher might come to regret her decision of breaking it off with Bella, but that didn’t matter: she had made her decision to stop being friends, and as she had always been taught: when you make a decision, you must stick by it to the end.
