“You know, Vic. Sometimes sorry just isn’t good enough.” How could she show Vic what she had done to her? She had basically shown clearly that the whole relationship is over. Jen was hurting, and wanted to make Vic feel that same way. “You just ignore me to fawn over some other girl you’ve just met?” Jen felt her face flushing red with anger. A few people were beginning to stop and stare at the argument brewing, although most were walking past, and shaking their heads at such a shameful display. Well, fuck them. They didn’t have to deal with this. Jen did. “I’m supposed to be the one you fawn over. Not some stupid fucking cutter. That ain’t healthy, girl.” Of course she’d noticed. How could she not. The idea that Vic was giving her up for somebody with such obvious problems just hurt her even more. Jen had never seen the appeal of self harm. If you wanted attention, you went out and got it. You didn’t do something that made you hide even more. “So, what’s it gonna be, Vic? Do you even want me any more? Cause right now, I just don’t know!” |

Vic grimaced, shrinking inward. "I-i don't think she's a cutter, Jen." This was not going how she had planned. Well, to be fair, she didn't wake up planning to meet Jen's, well, her replacement. If she did have anything approaching a schedule it was to buy that book and maybe go to bed with Jen again. Not very in depth, maybe, but it served her interests. It was just rotten luck that she happened to see Alice. Maybe she was planning on leaving Jen anyway. Maybe she had been keeping an eye out for someone else. Alice wasn't exactly the guy on the football team she had envisioned initially... "I wasn't fawning, per say." Vic said, some stability returning to her voice. She did manage to make brief eye contact with the other woman before she was forced to look away. After a second, she looked back to Jen, offering a placating smile. "She was nervous, and I wanted her to feel...better?" Vic shrank back. "I don't know, Jen. There isn't anything I can say to make this better." She smiled weakly. "But you know I don't make a lot of healthy choices." Jen was pissed, she was angry, and she had every right to be. Vic wasn't allowed to be angry, it wasn't fair. As much as she wanted to shout back at Jen, as much as she wanted turn this whole thing into a shouting match. But Vic knew that this was her fault. Jen had every reason, every right to scream at Vic. She glanced over her shoulder, into the store before looking back to Jen. "I do still want you, Jen." Which, as it turned out, was true enough. Vic was still sexually attracted to Jen. Maybe she didn't want a relationship, but she would still sleep with her. She also wanted Alice. So... "But I don't deserve you. We might go well together, but you can do better." |

“Oh, for Fucks sake, Vic” Jen was well and truly mad now. That she’d been trying to wheedle her way out of her action in the shop with weasel words was almost enough, but that comment at the end… “Why don’t you just come out and say ‘It’s not you, it’s me!”? Or are there better cliché’s you want to try first?” Jen had heard lame excuses like these before. Not very often, but enough to see them for what they were. ‘I’m sorry, I don’t want to be with you any more, but don’t want to be awkward about the whole situation, so I’ll say it’s not your fault, even though it is’ Somehow that need to lie made it worse. That people she had been to bed with couldn't even muster up the decency to be honest with her. But what hurt most of all was how Vic was so calm about everything. Jen was used to seeing her girlfriend being more passionate, so to see her like this was so disconcerting. The calm rational tone, the way she was trying to be so sensible about the whole thing. Jen wanted her to shout back, to get riled, to show that she was worth fighting for. This just showed her that she was worth a few trite remarks, and a ‘plenty more fish in the sea’. “Just say it, Vic. Don’t you turn into a pussy on me now. Just fucking say it. I need you to say it, fuck you. Say we’re over. No lies, no trying to spare me. Just say it.” |

She may have deserved whatever Jen gave her, but even Vic had her limit. Even keeping in mind this was all her fault, she was starting to get pissed. Not nearly as much as Jen, obviously, but ticked off all the same. Granted, it'd had been building up, little by little, but it was her last comment that had pushed her over the proverbial edge. Vic wasn't under the impression Jen didn't have it coming. Vic deserved it, no doubt. Just because she recognized that, it didn't mean she was going to take it like she should. Playing along clearly wasn't calming Jen down and actually telling her they were done would only make her even angrier. No, at this point, Vic had the idea Jen would like it if she shouted back. She thought about it for a second and decided things couldn't get much worse. One way or another, they'd each be leaving that sidewalk alone. The only difference being, Vic wasn't going to go home and fume to herself. Finally, she looked up to Jen, a matching frown on her face. "Fine, Jen. You want me to answer you? Fine." Vic folded her arms under her chest, standing back to her full height and out of the cowering, cringing, huddle she'd been maintaining. To be honest, it felt good. Vic never really was one to be submissive. Not outside the bedroom, anyway. "Your right. I was hitting on that cashier. Good eye, Sherlock, you caught me." Vic stabbed a finger towards Jen, her voice still even. "Don't even try to tell me you didn't have some back-up planned, some loser from the football team or something. Coming into this, we both knew it wasn't going to be some serious relationship. I'll give you that I messed up in there, but don't act all holier then thou on me. I'm sure you'll be with someone within the week." Vic stepped forward, looking down on Jen, her hand pulled back to her chest. "I'm not going to claim it was anything but my fault that it's ending like this, but it is ending. Even if I didn't want that, you would." Vic hesitated a moment, looking away briefly before looking back. When she spoke again, her voice was lower, almost hushed. "I'll offer an apology for the flirting, but nothing else. I am sorry about that. I may not regret this ending, but I do regret it ending like, well, this." She stepped back, away from Jen. Try as she might, she couldn't bring back the refreshing surge of anger she'd felt before, instead standing there looking awkward and anxious. Even with that, she could meet Jen's glare. "So, go ahead. Tell me how much you hate me, how much you wish you'd never met me, and that you hope every unfortunate thing that can happen to me does. Do your worst, Jen." |

Jen stood as tall as she could during Vics onslaught. This was more like it. This was the girl that she went out with. Not the spineless little thing she’d been losing her temper at moments before. This was the passion she remembered, the fire. This was what she was losing. Her eyes shone briefly, then burned, as she moved in closer to her ex. “No, Vic. I didn’t have a ‘back-up’. I wanted you. But it just seems like I wasn’t enough for you. I hope that you do get together with Miss Angst, St Paul. And that all through your relationship, you’ll realise that she’ll never give you what I did. And that you’ll never get again. You could have done anything with me. But remember, this was all your doing, Victoria Logan!” The wrath in her head was righteous. She barely knew what she was doing as her hand pulled back and her palm opened. She wanted to hurt Vic. To make her feel like Jen did. The sound was short and sharp, and the contact even briefer. But Jen knew that she had crossed a barrier. The slap had been impulsive, but she stood firm, and waited to see what reprisals she would face. Defiant even now, she just continued gazing at Vic, even as she regretted her temper. |

Oh, it was on now. As cliche as that sounded, it was the first phrase that sprung to mind. Jen seemed to stand taller as Vic replied, doing what she probably thought was her best solemn expression. Vic had seen the woman in the throes of passion, so her resolve, if that was indeed what she would call it, was wasted. Though, speaking of passion, Jen most likely had a point. Jen had been a good girlfriend, an and even better sexual partner. As dead sexy as she was, Alice probably wouldn't be game for half the things Jen was. If that said something about Alice or Jen, Vic didn't really feel like puzzling out. For one, it was irrelevant. Two, Vic was just as guilty as Jen. Then the slap came. Vic didn't see that coming, though she probably should have. For a moment, she looked at Jen, her eyes momentarily wide, before settling into a somewhat-less-intense glare then Jen's own. Vic briefly wished she'd saved her cliche. Now it was on. Of course, if Vic retaliated, it wouldn't be some girly slap. Vic was many things, but feminine wasn't exactly one of them. No, if Vic did anything, she was going to slug her. Her hand clenched together into a fist and drew up halfway before falling back to her side. As appealing as it sounded, Vic wasn't going to hit her back. Partly, because Vic had it coming. Mainly because she didn't want Alice thinking she was some violent psycho. She had to be looking out at this point, and if she wasn't, it would just be Vic's luck that she did just in time to see her deck Jen. Vic clenched her teeth, her fist loosening. Count to ten... She thought to herself, glaring even harder at Jen. "What, pray-fucking-tell, could you give me that she can't?" The taller woman hissed through gritted teeth. "Cheap sex? It might be my fault, but I can tell you fucking straight, I won't miss you for a goddamn second. You can say you didn't have anyone planned, but I'm sure you'll be screwing someone else within a week." Vic snorted, before laughing shortly. "Hell, why sell you short? I'll give you three, maybe four days. Forgive me, Jen, but I think I'll do just fuckin' fine without you." |

Jen looked up at Vic. This was it. No going back now. As tempted as she was to just launch herself at her now Ex-girlfriend, to rip her hair off, she had a much better way to really hurt her now. "What, pray-fucking-tell, could you give me that she can't?" An orgasm? Vic kept talking, but Jen was forming her strategy. This would be one hell of an acting job, if she could pull it off. As Vic talked about Jen moving on swiftly, Jen suppressed a smile at how right it was as she thought back to Stanislavsky. Find the emotion you need, then use it. It had been her sixth birthday, and her parents had bought her a dog. A Golden Lab. She’d named him ‘Sparky’, for reasons she could barely remember. And she had loved that dog. More so than anybody she’d met in high school. When Sparky died, a few years ago, she felt like her soul had been ripped from her body. There. The emotion. Tears welling up, she looked at Vic. “I could have loved you.” The harshest words she knew. Even as she spoke them, she didn’t know exactly if they were as made up as she thought. She turned swiftly and ran before Vic would have a chance to respond. ((Jen Romita end of Memory)) |

Vic watched Jen storm off, her lips pressed into a tight line. Several things ran through her mind at that particular moment. Not having to worry about sending Jen off, was one. How she would get home was another. It occurred to her that Jen's departure and closing statement weren't affecting her as much as she thought they would. Or, at least, how much Jen thought they would. It also occurred to Vic Jen was probably lying through her teeth. Maybe she was being straight about being faithful to Vic. Maybe. She could almost buy that. If Jen was just going to fall back on someone else, she probably wouldn't have exploded like that. Unless, of course, she just wanted to put on a show and make it look like she cared more then she really did. Well, if Jen wasn't lying, she was definitely barking up the wrong tree. Looking to Vic for commitment, even a chance at actual love, was like looking to a porn star for chastity. Not that she didn't think it was a nice idea. She could see the appeal of finding that special person. She just didn't think it was likely to happen to her. No, that wasn't it. Finding one person she could actually fall in love would be nice, eventually. As in, not now, or any time soon. Vic enjoyed consequence-free sex, sleeping with someone new every week. So-fucking-what if it gave her the reputation of being something of a slut? Maybe she didn't like being reminded of it, but she'd done everything to earn that stigma. It wasn't a secret to her. She wasn't the type of person to fall in love. And if she did? If she did find that special person? No idea. It didn't matter, really. She didn't see herself falling in love any time soon, as much as one could predict that sort of thing anyway. No, with Jen gone, her entire to-do list comprised entirely of Alice. Speaking of which...she glanced over her shoulder, back at the storefront, half expecting to see Alice staring out. Even if she didn't see it, she had to have heard it. No, at the moment, she was probably rethinking her crush on Vic. Smooth, Vic. Really fucking smooth. You couldn't have moved down the sidewalk a little first? You fucking idiot. She sighed, running a hand through her hair, pretty much ruining the mohawk she'd styled, instead making her hair look more like she'd just crawled out of bed. Suddenly, she didn't want to go inside. Alice would shoot her down, anyway. She'd have to, hearing what she just did. Vic wasn't in denial, she knew she'd do the same to Alice at some point, be it next week or the week after. If Alice had any sense, she'd arrive at the same conclusion. Going inside would be pointless then, wouldn't it? Vic sighed again, looking after Jen, and feeling a pang of regret. She should have thought about this a little, at all even. Too much had happened for her to just give up now, though. She didn't send Jen off just to call it quits on the sidewalk. If Alice was going to shoot her down, Vic wanted to know for certain at least. With more then a little trepidation, Vic pushed the door open and stepped into the chill of the store. Alice was right where she'd left her, standing behind the counter. Vic couldn't tell what she was thinking about Jen's verbal assault out front, and Vic didn't really want to know. Instead of saying anything about that, she just smiled, approaching the counter with an easy and swaying saunter, showing off her long legs to nice effect. She leaned against the counter in a pose similar to the one she had before, finding herself looking up at the pale woman. After a moment's consideration, she stood, reaching forward and running a finger gently over Alice's cheek. "So, where were we? I think I was just about to mention how stone-gorgeous you were. Does that sound right?" |

Great. Good going, Alice. It's not enough that your own life sucks, but you had to go and make Victoria's a little worse, too. You're a real piece of work, aren't you? You should have just took care of her book and kept to yourself. But no, you had to smile and pretty much tell the world you had a giant crush on her. One person outside of Bounce and Tenna to actually show some interest in you, and you get her in trouble. It was safe to say Alice's crushingly low self-esteem was even lower then normal. Her day had started out so nicely. Well, as nice as her day's ever were, as in, it was shaping up to be completely unassuming. Then Vic had shown up, and thing's seemed a little bit better. Then one event led to another, and Jen was screaming at her just out front, and it was all Alice's fault. She felt horrible, and the fact she could hear every word between them didn't help. Alice hunched against the counter, pressing her hand to her forehead as she tried not to think about the part she played in their argument. If only she hadn't been working this shift, both of them would still be together, both would still be happy. It was all she could think that she had screwed up again. She wanted nothing more then to just disappear. At first, it seemed Jen was the only one upset. Vic was just trying to apologize. Alice winced, looking away from the front door. She had managed to tune out the words between them some success up until Vic started in on Jen. Then there was the slap. Alice cringed, hating herself more then ever. Her fault, all of it. It would figure that the one person she actually wanted to know would end up in a fight because of her. It was probably a sign. A sign that she would have to get used to being alone. She'd been on her own the last three years. She was as used to it as she'd ever be. When things did get quiet outside, Alice hazarded a look away from the counter. She could see Vic standing outside, but it seemed Jen was gone. She looked back down to the counter, fully expecting Vic to cut her losses and go home. When the door did open and she came back inside, Alice guessed it was her turn. She looked up, trying not to look as terrible as she felt. "I'm really sorry-" She started, hesitating before making eye contact only for Vic to cut her off. Her touch sent chills down her spine, and Alice vaguely realized her mouth was open. "Wh-what?" She quickly turned away as a blush coloured her cheeks. Was Vic actually talking about her? No, that didn't make any sense. Alice was a scarred up freak, no way someone like Vic would be attracted to her. "No, I-i think I'd remember you mentioning that." |

"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass" -Terry Pratchett, The Truth Lost To the Ages Spoiler: click to toggle Coming soon, to a V5 near you Spoiler: click to toggle
