Here she was. After a meticulous amount of planning, she was going to an American school. She sat in the back seat of her father's new Porsche, clasping her leather handbag (an expensive one, but not a famous brand like Hermes or Prada) in her arms as she watched the scenery pass by. She'd lost count of the differences she noticed in her short time here: the cars drove on the wrong side of the road, people were bigger, more dispersed, and had a variety of colors, and it took her several hours before she saw even one vending machine!

Her family had purchased a spacious home in the upscale St. Paul, at least twice as big as their old home in Tokyo. Little Ayumu was amazed at how big his new room was, and spent most of the day exploring the place, much to his parents' consternation. Eiko, by contrast, spent the evening on her bed, looking up tidbits about American culture and pondering what she'd do in this new land. She'd heard there were many excellent universities in America, but how would she get into them without attending cram school?

Now she rode with her father to Bayview High School. It wouldn't be an everyday occurence; since the school was nearby, Eiko could ride her brand new bicycle to school. But the first day of school was a special occasion for Masaru Haraguchi, and he would be putting on his best face for the faculty no matter what his wife said. So here she was, also ready to put her best foot forward and impress the Americans.

"Here we are," Masaru told Eiko in Japanese, pulling up to a stop on the curb, beyond which a few students filed into the glass doors at the front.

Eiko looked out the other window and reached for the door handle. The school was white plaster on top and red brick on the bottom, stretching for dozens of feet in both directions. In front and to the left of the doors stood two flagpoles, one with the American flag at the top, and one with another she didn't recognize. The state flag, maybe?

She stepped out of the car, handbag on her should, and turned around, giving her father a quick bow. "I'll see you after school, Otou-sama," she replied, shutting the door and walking towards the school. This was it. A new beginning. The first day of the rest of her life.

Though she would never admit it to anyone, Eiko Haraguchi was scared out of her goddamn mind.

(I'm looking for people to RP with here; PM me if you're interested. This thread takes place on the first day of senior year, as opposed to near the end, like the present day threads, so make sure you play your character accordingly.)

((The entrance to Felicia Carmichael))

"Heh... another year. Fun...." Sure, she may have sounded really tired, but at least half of the tone in Felicia's voice was genuine. Being at home exclusively allowed for internet socialization and that was all; while that was usually enough for the normally 'plugged-in' Felicia, having a little face-to-face interaction wouldn't be all that bad. Beyond that, school offered a lot of rules and regulations to skate around. The prospect of that particular gem of an activity could practically make Felicia drool.

The other half of her sole line of intelligible speech that morning was, however, VERY sarcastic. Long nights and late wake-ups had spoiled Felicia a bit, and was up to quite the rude awakening when her alarm clock sounded in her room. That was at 5:45. It was at least 7:00 by this point, and she was no closer to fully waking up. The only real saving grace was that Felicia lived within walking distance. She probably would've fallen asleep on the bus, both parents were at work and she sure couldn't be trusted to drive at that state of awareness.

One step led to another as Felicia continued walking to the school, almost rounding the corner to the actual walkway of the front door. High school... one law she couldn't find any way to get around (at least, not while gunning for a law degree), or else she would. Whatever drawbacks there were by not going would be offset by the pleasures of staying home and just having fun, but it was nothing to dwell on by this point; Felicia was going to start her final year of high school whether she liked it or not.

An idea came fluttering to her tired brain, something about finding a way to STAY in high school. Maybe there were benefits to that instead, and maybe it was far more possible than staying out of it. As quickly as the idea had come, it was batted away when Felicia, still wavering from being half asleep, bumped shoulders with some girl she had never seen before. She only turned her head out of some semblance of courtesy and stepped in the opposite direction, managing to mumble out some sort of 'sorry' to the girl.

"Ah! Sumimasen!" Eiko said as she felt someone else jostle into her. The fact that they bumped into each other like that didn't bother her so much; space was at a premium back in Tokyo. No, it was just that she had been paralyzed by this intimidating American school, these crowds, the culture she'd only read about online. And suddenly being touched was enough to snap her back into action.

She lightly tapped the person who touched her on the shoulder. "E-excuse me, um, ma'am?" she said, nervously looking the girl over. She was slightly mannish (not enough to be an okama, she concluded after a second of thought), and she had a striking brown skin tone. Eiko had never conversed up close with someone who looked like that. "Do you know where everyone is supposed to go? I just arrived in this country; I don't know how the school system works here. Um, a'ight?" That was what dark-skinned Americans said, right? She was already beginning to panic, even without knowing that she might have committed a faux pas right out of the gate.

"N... ngh-wah?" Felicia took another step to complete the recoiling response of bumping into something before turning her head to stare lazily at the obstruction. A quick skimming glance of the girl she had made contact with seemed to return the passive reponse of 'not in motion', so Felicia instinctively stopped her own plodding. "Sumi-what-now?"

Partially out of her amusement and also because she was so damned tired, she let this strange new girl talk. She wanted to say something common or cliche such as 'are you the new kid', but Felicia had been to Bayview for three years and starting a fourth. She already knew that answer without having to ask. The first and most obvious thing to point out while Felicia did her best to listen was that this new girl was definitely Asian. Chinese, Japanes or whatever, she didn't know that yet... Japanese would be her first guess from the opening words of the conversation. Second observation was that this girl was timid. If she wasn't timid, then she was extremely anxious... were she more aware of her surroundings, Felicia could probably piece together that 'new-girl' wasn't just new to Bayview, she was new to the states. Those higher functions tended to be missing around seven in the morning, however. They were also unneeded, seeing as how the new girl outright stated she recently came to the country moments later.

Felicia had to laugh at the 'a'ight', a forced verbal tic. The more she thought about why Eiko used it, the more her grin stretched... it reminded her of a cartoon she once saw about an alien shopkeeper trying to speak in eubonics to a customer. She laughed again in a slightly obnoxious fasion before attempting something of a coherent answer.

"Oka-" She chuckled a few more times. "Okay... first, relax. Welcome to Bayview, and welcome to America. My name is Felicia Carmichael, and yours iiiiis..." the excitement of getting to be the first to interact with a new student actually helped to wake the slacker some. She'd wait a bit for the name before continuing.

"Now, just follow me for a little bit... we can grab breakfast before you have to go anywhere, but we might have the same homeroom, who knows. I'd need to look at your schedule, y'know? ... A'ight?" She chortled a bit more, but it was always light-hearted laughter. Felicia usually only displayed her malicious side to idiots on the internet.

Eiko blinked. Was this girl laughing at her? "Haraguchi. Eiko Haraguchi," she responded when prompted for a name.

She was somewhat relieved when Felicia opened up to her. "Thank you for your offer," she said to her. "I would be happy to join you. What do you eat for breakfast?"

This American girl was friendlier than she'd expected. She didn't get much time outside of her rigid routine of school and studying, but sometimes she caught a glimpse of some anime or another, and what she saw of Americans wasn't very flattering. More often than not, the Americans were loud, ignorant, boisterous, and in-your-face, with the dark-skinned ones armed to the teeth and wearing their pants around their ankles, all clearly inferior to the polite and well-mannered Japanese characters. Eiko wasn't sure how true this was, but now that she was there in person she could see that the programs may have been just a bit exaggerated.

"Harag... Haraguchi?" Felicia reiterated in a simple effort to confirm that she had pronounced it properly. "Eiko. So.... is Haraguchi your family name, and Eiko's your personal name, or did I get that backwards?" The reverse-name thing always threw Felicia for a loop whenever she saw it used on the internet. That was the sole reason why she never roleplayed as anything Japanese in the forums she frequented. She even shyed away from such settings simply because she didn't want some tool to start a flame war over a small mistake she made.

"Well...." Felicia began to walk, assuming Eiko would follow her. She wasn't going particularly fast as, even if it were her style, it was still way too early for anything massively energetic. "They kinda do this... varied thing every morning. If you want bagels, they've got bagels. Fruit, they've got fruit. Oatmeal? They usually have little packets of it... then there's the main meal, which is actually different every time..." Felicia hoped she hadn't lost Eiko yet. "So once we get there, why not take a look around?"

School. Fantastic. Fan-fucking-tastic.

Rosa Fiametta was not a huge fan of education, not by some considerable margin. Of course, that was something pretty regular for a lot of kids in high school, but that didn't make it any less true for her. Just because it was a shared dislike, didn't cause it to become insignificant all of a sudden. People were in the same boat? That just meant they should understand her reasoning better.

She sighed as she headed towards the entrance. It was always such a bore though... it wasn't like she was going to fail anything, but jeez, she always got such a hassle from the teachers. If it wasn't 'Rosa, you need to put in more effort,' it was 'Rosa, you need to dress more appropriately,' and so on, and so on.

As such, Rosa had dressed for the occasion... with devil's advocacy. She'd picked out an even shorter skirt than usual - one that even she had to admit was pushing dress code big time, but what the hell, wasn't that the whole point? Up top, it was pretty much the norm - tight shirt, not covering the abdomen, would probably get her sent home at some point... That wasn't all too uncommon an occurance, although Rosa did tend to carry a jacket for such times. Fucking teachers... half the time Rosa thought they mentioned dress code just to annoy her...

In front of her, Rosa spied a pair of girls walking together, and feeling mischievious, as she sometimes did, she quickly walked up behind them and hung her arms around each of their necks.

"Back to school again huh? Hip hooray..."

Rosa knew one of the girls to some extent. Felicia her name was, bit of a tomboy in some ways, had a bit of extra weight on her, like Rosa herself (but in the Fiametta's opinion, didn't carry it nearly as well). Not anybody Rosa particularly liked or disliked.

And... okay, who are you? Don't think I've seen you around before. Hee, you're kinda cute, have to say. Look like you need to loosen up a bit though.

"Haraguchi is my family name," Eiko explained as she walked beside Felicia. She seemed sluggish, still trying to adjust to being awake. Eiko knew how she felt; the jet lag hit her hard when she landed in Chicago, and it took a while for her to get a decent sleep schedule again, not to mention the times the stayed up too late studying.

She tried to place the items that Felicia mentioned, but she couldn't quite remember what they were. She supposed she needed a visual aid. "I'm guessing there isn't any rice available?" she asked her.

That was when she noticed something hanging around her neck. She turned her head and looked at a new girl, a very attractive girl, with a low neckline, generous bust, and flawless face. She was definitely trying to land a guy, it looked like.

"Back to school again huh? Hip hooray..." the new girl said to her.

"Ano... yes. Hello. My name is Eiko Haraguchi. And you are?"

Felicia set a hand out in front of her, possibly appearing to Eiko like she was patting an imaginary dog or resting it on an equally invisible table. Her hand wiggled back and forth a bit in the 'sorta' gesture while Felicia gave the proper verbial accompaniment of 'eeeeeehh....'

She was just about to give her newly-found pupil a more proper response on how rice was generally served for lunch rather than breakfast, and even then rarely, when every single thread of thought she might've had was tossed into a blender once an arm wrapped around her neck.

She didn't have much of a method to look at their new guest, but Felicia could recognize that voice from anywhere, and could pin a face to the voice, but not a name. The girl was in a class or two with her and, to be honest, Felicia had some sort of light envy at how flirty (and successfully so) she could be. "Aye!" She uttered, hardly expecting such an encounter and nearly losing balance. "Yeah, call in the ticker-tape parade, send out the clowns..." It was the best response she could give with her brain being turned into an omelette. Metaphorically, of course. Maybe.

"Name's Rosa, baby," the contrast between her own casualness and the incredbile formality of Eiko amused Rosa - that was differences in culture for you huh? Eiko really was a cutie... but it didn't strike Rosa as a fantastic idea to start coming on to her. It was probably the poor thing's first day in an American school, and she could probably do without being hit on in her first five seconds there. Especially by another girl.

All the same... yet another split up over the summer (something that Rosa was starting to regard as inevitible) had left Rosa once again free and single and... lonely, in many ways. Her two siblings weren't exactly her ideal company by any stretch of the imagination... but anyway, it was a fresh school year, so there was no use approaching it with a negative attitude. Somebody had to notice her outfit right?

"You're looking pretty frazzled there - late night?" That was something that Rosa felt that she could relate to Felicia in - albeit probably in entirely different ways. Perhaps it was a little cruel to think as much, but Rosa couldn't really see Felicia being up all night whilst still in bed... in that sense of the word.

"So I guess you're new, been in town long?" - it was a fairly obvious question to ask a new student, Rosa supposed, but a reasonable way to start off a conversation. She removed her arms from the shoulders of the other two and put them both behind her head as a sort of cushion, accentuating her chest as she did so. Rosa couldn't help it - that was just the way she acted.

Guess this could make people a bit uncomfortable, but what the hell, it's not like I started stripping in front of them.

Yes, Rosa was definitely putting on a show, though Eiko couldn't see why; there weren't any boys paying attention to the three of them.

American girls really did have huge breasts, didn't they?

"I've only just arrived this week," Eiko explained. "My father works at Best Buy and was recently transferred to Richfield." Richfield was the location of Best Buy's corporate headquarters, located just south of Minneapolis. "We just moved into our new house. It's in Summit Hill."

Eiko only had a rough idea of what Felicia was trying to say. It was probably about her rice question. The hand gesture was a complete enigma, Felicia didn't really sound too optimistic. "No rice, then." she said. She supposed she would have to stick with Western dishes today.

"Rosa-san, would you like to join us for breakfast?" she asked.

"You're looking pretty frazzled there - late night?"

"Engh..." Came yet another articulate answer in the whole line of such responses from Felicia. "Not so much a late night as way too early a morning... You? You look all bright and shiny. I guess the sun just likes you better." The end of the sentence called in a nice, long stretch since Rosa had removed her hand from around Felicia's shoulders.

She had turned her head with the purpose of responding to Eiko, but Rosa's actions caught her eye much like they would anybody else's. The posture was, of course, just Rosa being Rosa. Felicia had to admit that the rebellious nature of the girl was likable, though she was way too forward about it. Felicia also imagined Rosa wouldn't take well to 'tips' on how to try and work around the system rather than plow through it. Even if she would accept the tips, there was always the guilty admittance of her enjoying watching Rosa, her defiance and (usually) the resulting punishment. It wasn't so much from the punishment itself, but more because she always seemed to come back from everything dressed in an even more volatile way than before, or otherwise returning to her ways 'in the face of the law', as it were.

After a few moments, Felicia noticed that her peripheral glance at Rosa had turned into a direct one. While her head was faced towards Eiko, her eyes had drifted down and to the side towards Rosa's near-perfect chest. With the way it was stuck out, she just HAD to be teasing the two... Struggling to bring her eyes back to the Haraguchi's face, Felicia sighed. "Yeah, well.. I bet you'll find something else you'll like... 'aight?" She grinned and playfully poked Eiko on the shoulder.

Rosa fell into steady step alongside the other two girls, keeping her arms exactly where they were. It was comfortable, plus, well, she liked doing it. She was a little surprised to receive a breakfast invitation, moreso with the ... was that an honorific or something? Ugh, probably, Rosa didn't claim to understand Japanese culture.

"Hey sure thing, I don't have anyone to meet this morning."

Plus, if it means I get to figure you out a bit more, I'm all for it.

She looked over at Felicia again, and caught all of the look that her breasts were receiving. Either the other girl just never learned quite how not to stare, or she was another one that batted for both teams. Or just the other one, Rosa supposed. Not all girls who were into girls were also into guys, even though Rosa herself was. Rosa tipped Felicia a laconic wink, letting her know she'd seen her looking. She had no problem with that whatsoever - Rosa liked being looked at. Still, Rosa hoped that the tomboy wouldn't get any ideas. She had a specific kind of flirtyness.

"I can run off an empty tank all day long," Rosa told Felicia, with a slight hint of a brag in her voice. It was true ... to an extent, although her concentration on things like schoolwork was usually shot if she hadn't slept much. Not that schoolwork was her number one priority...

"So Eiko, you got somebody waiting for you back in Japan?"

Ha... what's the point of trying to figure out if she's single? She's cute, yeah, but that doesn't mean she'll be as interested in me as I am in her.

Eiko smiled when Felicia nudged her. "You're probably right," she replied. "I've had Western-style breakfasts a few times before."

Then Rosa asked her a question. "Waiting for me?" she asked, a bit confused by Rosa's words. "Hmm. Well, I'm not expecting to come back anytime soon, at least not until I finish college, but there are several old classmates I'm trying to contact online. They'll miss me, I'm sure, but not too much; they do have their own lives to occupy themselves with, after all."

She took a few more steps before realizing that Rosa might not be talking about platonic friends.

"Oh, you meant a boyfriend, right?" she asked, almost giving Rosa a thumbs up before remembering the Western meaning of the gesture. "I've had terrible luck when it comes to boys. I'm usually too busy studying to date very often. I guess I'll have to fix that this year," she said, looking at the boys scattered around the school.

Felicia could see the wink aimed at her, and did her best to disguise the bemoaned facial expression of 'oh shit, I've been caught'. She found Rosa to be a hot one, alright, but knew what kind of girl she was too. Definitely seemed to be the 'aggressive type', from what Felicia could tell. Hell, she couldn't be positive that the Fiametta even LIKED girls. Sure, there were rumors and sure, she seemed to be flirty with everybody, but that's just how some people were. Whichever way things went, Felicia would try to keep her eyes to herself and react to Rosa however she saw fit.

"Sure, we can all probably run off an empty tank, but you gotta admit... there's always at least one thing down at breakfast that's good, right?" She looked from Eiko to Rosa and then straight ahead of her. Of course, there was always enough time to take one more look with peripheral vision... Rosa's stance was just asking for it.
