Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

I've been talking about this for a while now, so everybody sort of knew it was coming. We've had some great mods in the past, that much is for sure. I mean, V1 probably wouldn't have ever been completed without people like Makaze, Riserugu, and d0ddi0slave. The transition to the new site definitely couldn't have been completed without the help of former staffers, and people like Mitsuko and Jotun definitely made my life a lot easier throughout V2. Unfortunately, in the 2+ years that SOTF has been around, a lot of people have found themselves too busy with real life to continue to help on the forum, and for a multitude of reasons, we've lost a lot of staffers.

Long story short, mod applications are here! So, this is gonna be really simple, and pretty much identical to every other one we've ever held. I'm going to post a very simple template below. If you're interested, take the little template, answer the questions, and respond in this topic. Don't PM it to me or you won't be considered, I don't have time to sift through PMs to find applications. If you post here and let me know you're interested, I'll PM you the sample profiles, which you'll be required to read, review and approve or not approve. I'll look over the sample profiles returned, take some other things into account (like activity and how you've responded to certain situations in the past) and make my decision. So, here's hoping we get a lot of interest in this!

I'm not sure how many spots will be open. Probably about 3-4. So anyway, here's the template. You'll have until Friday, February 1st to complete this and post it up.

Handler Name:
Contact Methods: (AIM, MSN, etc.)
How often do you check the site?
Why do you want to be a moderator?:
What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't?
How good are you with deadlines?
Do you consider yourself a prompt person?
Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person?
Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations?

I suppose that's all for now. I would recommend really considering the last three questions, especially if you've never been staff before. Being staff can be a lot of fun, but sometimes, it's stressful. If you guys are particularly busy outside of the forum, I wouldn't recommend applying, because I don't keep staffers around that don't pull their share of the weight. I don't ask a lot of my staffers, their main duties are profile approving and dispute resolving, but as you all know, sometimes, we get some rather large disputes on the forum, so I just want everybody who's interested to know and be prepared for that. Anyway, if you think you'd like to contribute a little something extra to SOTF, please feel free to apply. Once again, the deadline to have this section of the application completed is Friday, February 1st. Thanks for your interest!

How often do you check the site?: Too often

Why do you want to be a moderator?: I like to handle stuff. I find sometimes with there being people who have to deal with stuff in real life, it helps having a back up or two that can still manage everything while others take a breather.

What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't? In the time that I've taken part on this website I feel that I have gained a broad understanding of how to interact with other people. I know that there have been times that I might have 'blown up' at others, though that was usually fixed within a day or two and I feel that I have really taken something from it. I'm more understanding of RPers and their characters. I've also grown in the writing, which is something that I'm very happy about.

How good are you with deadlines? I'm in school for Journalism, my life is based around deadlines and I feel I do pretty well.

Do you consider yourself a prompt person? 15 minutes early is on time.

Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person? Before if I would have applied last year I would have said no, though since then, and having the chance to meet new people on the board I've found that I am. (most of the time ^_^)

Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations? yes, going back to the whole deadline thing, stressful situations is sort of something I enjoy. I love problem solving.
It's so nice

How often do you check the site? - Many times a day. I'm on the computer quite often.

Why do you want to be a moderator?: I like to help people, and I love this forum; i'd like to be as involved with it as I can.

What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't? I'm constantly checking everything. I'm quite good at noticing little details that others don't. If someone did something overtly wrong (see bowling alley), i'd most likely be the first to know, and to notify them of it/fix it, due to the fact that i'm here quite often.

How good are you with deadlines? I'm obsessive about them. I've got this odd emotional compulsion to meet them, I have no idea why. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you that I go completely insane if I ever miss them. I always keep up-to-date with threads that I am in, and unless real life gets in the way I will meet any deadline i'm assigned.

Do you consider yourself a prompt person? For the most part, yes. As mentioned above, i'm obsessive with deadlines and promptness.

Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person? Most of the time, in a discussion, i'm mediating it, trying to look at all sides of something before coming to a descision. Yeah, I would say that I am.

Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations? Most of the time, yes. In group situations i'm usually the one holding the group together at those times.

How often do you check the site?: Constantly, especially since I've made repeated attempts to post.
Why do you want to be a moderator?: I feel like doing something useful for once.
What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't?: Like Waffle, I'm constantly checking the forum, and will be able to spot mistakes easily. I tend to give harsh but honest criticisms, so I'll be useful in the approving process. I'm also an experienced staffer from other forums and past staff positions on SOTF.
How good are you with deadlines?: I'm decent. Usually I manage to make them.
Do you consider yourself a prompt person?: Usually, yes. I try, at least.
Do you consider yourself a fair, unbiased person?: Yes, unless I'm pissed off at someone, in which case I'll try not to get involved if I think I can't stay neutral.
Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations?: Yes.

How often do you check the site? Every day, at least once.

Why do you want to be a moderator?: I was a former member of staff, and I don't feel that my tenure as staff ended well. I was going through a number of things in real life that contributed to me becoming a lot less likable and a lot less objective than I usually could have been, and I don't want my time as a staff member to remembered for that. I think that I'd be able to bring some experience to the job of a moderator, and most people are on fairly good terms with me (now, anyways, heh).

What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't? I've got a pretty unique style of thinking, and I can usually point out things about different problems or ideas that others may not be able to see. The things that I notice first might not be the details that others would. As I mentioned before, I'm fairly well-known amongst the members here, and as such, I can usually see where most people are coming from in terms of conflict resolution. I've been known to be stubborn, and whether or not that's a good thing - well, I guess I'll let you guys be the judge.

How good are you with deadlines? I'm very good with deadlines. University's drilled it into my head that it's better to do an average job on something and hand it in on time than do a great job on something and hand it in late. Odds are, you end up getting the same mark anyways, and they'll take off a late penalty. I will always make a huge effort to complete something on time, rather than give up on it, as I"ve had a bad experience in the past with it. My many all-nighters over the past couple of years can attest to this.

Do you consider yourself a prompt person? Very. I'm one of only 3 people at my place of employment who are always prompt and on time for their shifts, and while tardiness and absenteeism is a huge problem where I work, my managers have said to me that at least they can always count on me in terms of being reliable and prompt. If I'm unable to be prompt or reliable, I'll let people know in advance, so that someone else can cover for me.

Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person? In the past? No. I wasn't that unbiased, and I found myself to be fairly opinionated. Now? I've matured a lot, especially as I've had to focus upon my schooling, and I've found that I need to keep an open mind about pretty much everything. I'm usually a very open-minded person, but I would have preconceptions about things or people that wouldn't change easily. As I've experienced more in my life, I find that those preconceptions that I've formed have been washed away a lot easier, and as such I"ve become a lot more unbiased than I may have been before. I like to be fair to other people, and in terms of disputes, I always try and look at both sides of an argument before coming to a decision.

Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations? Yeah, I work better under pressure. Again, I didn't use to be like that, but working in a customer service position in a retail environment has had to thicken my skin a little bit. When it comes to work, I always work best under pressure, and notice that I sabotage myself a little bit at times in that regard. I've been threatened and yelled at a lot in my job, and stressful situations only get easier to deal with as you experience them. Again, like most of my other answers, experience has played a big part in my being able to cope under times of great stress. I think I do this well, and am usually able to keep a level head about myself. In fact, when I'm under stress, and it's being caused by someone else, instead of getting intimidated, I often begin to become amused by how ridiculous situations can be, instead of becoming intimidated and stumbling. (A lot of this really pertains to my real life work experience, but hey, you asked)

And that's all she wrote!

How often do you check the site? Multiple times daily.
Why do you want to be a moderator?: I'm not writing a novel for this. I feel that I can do the job up to the standards that the community wants.
What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't? My time. There are some that I know will apply for this position and they will not be able to devote the amount of time I know I can.
How good are you with deadlines? Only missed one in V2, so I'm pretty damn punctual.
Do you consider yourself a prompt person? Yes.
Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person? 95% of the time yes. If I know I won't be able to be fair I will not involved myself in that decision.

How often do you check the site? Very often. It's a daily commitment for me.

Why do you want to be a moderator?: Because I'm sick and tired of inactivity. Particularly not being able to get people to become more active. I want to do something about that. I want to be able to give people that push that others seem reluctant to do.

What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't?
I believe I can contribute, that's the bottom line.

How good are you with deadlines? I procrastinate a lot but I don't miss deadlines.

Do you consider yourself a prompt person? Yep.

Do you consider yourself a fair, unbiased person? Not really. But I can force myself to be.

Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations? Of course. Online-wise much more than IRL.

How often do you check the site?: I try to check the site at least once a day. Usually I check it about several times, the times of which depends on how much activity is happening on the board. I will say without a doubt that I check the site alot.

Why do you want to be a moderator?: I want to become a moderator because I feel like I can actually contribute to the community. Not only am I sometimes actually want to help others, but I've also thought up many different ideas that might actually turn out to help the forums, and actually increase efficiency during V3.

What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't?: I could go into alot of detail of how I am very different from the other applicants, but I'll just delve into one area that I think is one of the more major differences. I think a certain way, known as critical thinking, that contrasts many other people I try to take every single problem that I come across with the same amount of thought as the rest. I never jump to conclusions, and (in regards to this) I try to find out enough information before I make decisions.

How good are you with deadlines?: Very good. Extremely good. In fact most of my friends consider me as some kind of busy-body who actually looks for work rather than taking breaks once work is done. I can say that I'm very prompt, so I'm very good with deadlines.

Do you consider yourself a prompt person? While I won't go saying that I'm a busybody who plans every single insignificant detail about his everyday life (in fear that I'll be lying), I will say that I am a prompt person. Most of the time during roleplays on Pregame I either reply the minute something goes up, or the day afterwards. I try never to slack on those types of things. With this I can definitely day that I am a prompt person.

Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person? I can say that I'm a fair person, even to a fault. People consider me as very mature for my age, mainly because I don't take small things too seriously as many of my fellow classmates and friends can attest. I rarely ever jump to conclusions, and I treat everyone fairly even if one of said people have a bad reputation with the other members on the forums.

Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations? I handle myself very well under stressful situations. While I might worry, I never get stressed myself. I try to go into situation with a smile on my face, even if that smile might be a little forced. I never let things get to me personally, and as I've said before, I try to look at things critically. In fact, I actually enjoy solving problem.

How often do you check the site? Multiple times daily, in fact it's kind've an unhealthy obsession. There have been parties where I've literally stopped dancing and gone to the nearest computer just to check if someone has posted.
Why do you want to be a moderator?: To me being a moderator isn't about being a disciplinarian, it isn't about being a lawmaker or a judge, no what a moderator is too me is someone who we can trust to lead threads and storylines. To be able to make sure the site maintains a certain amount of quality and that everyone can have as much fun as they want (within reason), I want to aid in making SOTF a fun experience and that's why I wish to be a moderator.
What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't? I think that I have a lot of, what do you call it? Creative juices. I don't mean to sound arrogant when I say that I've constructed some pretty good storylines and that I can contribute a lot of interesting stuff writing wise, most of all I think that'd I'd be an interesting person to develop the Danya character some more (posting IC announcements), work out wrinkles in storyline ideas (what me and you've discussed privately), and as proven time and time again I am generally pretty meticulous and thorough when it comes to approving character sheets.
How good are you with deadlines? I think the fact that we’ve literally been able to complete a thread with about 3000 words each in a couple of hours speaks well enough for how quickly I can get something done.
Do you consider yourself a prompt person? For the most part, yes.
Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person? Let’s be honest, I’m an asshole. I’m a jerk. But, I’m these things to everyone, also I think recent moments have proven that I’m capable of keeping my cool at levels that would’ve been unprecedented two years ago.
Are you able to handle sometimes stressful situations? For the most part I can approach these scenarios with a smile on my face and rather lax, hell we’ve both talked about how stressful things have become and worked out stressful scenarios in both real life and on SOTF itself.

How often do you check the site? Every time I sit down at the computer at least, which is often due to the whole ADD thing. I'm constantly refreshing the SOTF homepage if I'm doing anything else online.
Why do you want to be a moderator?: I dunno, everybody else is applying.
What do you feel like you could contribute to the forum that others couldn't? Reliability, responsibility, Dr Phil-calibur conflict resolution, and of course my tremendous balls.
How good are you with deadlines? I pride myself on not losing characters to inactivity. That really shouldn't be as great an attribute as it is.
Do you consider yourself a prompt person? Yes.
Do you consider yourself a fair, unbias person? Yes.
