Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

This isn't directed toward anyone in particular, it's just something that's been on my mind. I'd appreciate if everybody read this, because it's kind of important. It concerns inactives, overall inactivity, V2, and V3.

SOTF's supposed to be a fun place where everybody can come, let down their hair, blow off the stress of the day, and roleplay. It's a game. It isn't something you have to do, it's something you can leave at any time. However, as with any multi-player game, when you start playing, you have somewhat of an obligation to keep up with the rest of the gamers. I'm not saying that you have to post every two hours on the spot like clockwork, so don't read into it that way.

The activity in this place fluctuates on a ridiculous level. One day, we'll be incredibly active, and the next week, we'll have like five posts in total. I think we can all agree that it's frustrating, and it's going to take all of us to improve that. Guys, I know we get busy with RL stuff sometimes, and that definitely takes priority over something like SOTF. Still, it wouldn't hurt us to be a little more prompt with our posts. It's frustrating to roleplay with someone who you don't even want to reply to because you know they won't get back to you for another week.

Basically, to sum it up, I'd appreciate if everyone could be a little more considerate of the people they're roleplaying with and respond a little more promptly to the posts. It'd help pick up the morale of the forum.

Moving right along, because this goes hand in hand with the posting thing, I've got to rant a little bit about the inactives. Look, you guys know the rule about activity. Two weeks, no post, you go on the "bad list" or whatever, one more week, you forfeit your character. It doesn't matter if we update the activity list or not, because it's really not our job to keep up with when the last time you posted was. We can't make you post. You know if you've posted with a character lately.

So, keep your posts up with them, or don't bitch and whine when they suddenly get auctioned off "without your knowledge". You knew good and well that you hadn't posted with them in a long time, I don't think we should have to remind you all of that fact. We've been very lenient with activity throughout V2, and we've really tried to work with you guys, and I feel like we've gotten nothing but a bunch of shit over it. I feel like we try to help you out, give you all extensions, and people take that for granted and walk all over the staff.

It is just a forum. It isn't supposed to be serious. Still, rules are rules, and we'd all be a lot happier if everyone could a.) respect them, b.) follow them, and c.) realize that they aren't exempt from them.

Finally, I'm going to bring this up now, because I don't want everyone to go into a panic when the rules are changed up for V3, because if I have my way, this will go into effect at the beginning of V3. I want to go back to the original SOTF rules in terms of death. That means you get 72 hours (three days) to complete the death. Not start it, not get your character out of a thread and claim you're starting the topic ASAP, you'll have three days to finish it.

You know, nobody seemed to have a problem with that in V1, but in this game, it seems to be a hellacious problem, and it's one that I think I can speak for all the staffers when I say we're getting really sick of.

Secondly, inactivity is gonna be cracked down on. The threads have moved way too slow in this game, and it's because nobody seems to want to be prompt with their posts. I've been toying with the idea that one week plus no activity plus no away notice results in you going on the inactivity list and two weeks with neither of the above results in your character going on the chopping block. That's not set in stone, but that's what I'm pushing for.

This isn't a job. This isn't something you need to devote every single second of your life to. Still, most of us are online for hours at a time every day, so there's no reason that I should have to stand on my little soap box and bitch about activity. It's frustrating, it's annoying, and it's not something I particularly want to do. Have some respect for your fellow handlers, please. Don't leave them hanging for three weeks before you decide to respond to two paragraphs worth of writing.

I suppose that concludes my rant.

What's tragic is that I do my best to follow the rules, but that doesn't spare me the suffering wrought by those who don't. Unless that Industrial District RP picks up within the week, I'm afraid I'm going to have to declare my characters ditched yet again, and this time I don't think I'll be able to take it into my own hands like I did with Roland when Aphrodite left.

The thing is that inactivity has been so widely practiced (even a good majority of the staff have suffered from it and that's why a lot of them -myself included- are no longer staff), the important thing (and this is something I wish to note) is that every thread tries to be this epic "Though We May Not Survive It..." type thread and thus in an attempt to make collosal posts we lose ourselves.

A small solution (and I feel a bit like Tyler Durden assigning homework right now) is to do a small thread grind with an RPer you've never RPed with before. This should at least give us a much more wide variety of RPing partners (as SOTF always finds small RPing cliques) and you know, increase activity.

Though, this is merley a suggestion.

Suggestion taken, Slack. I'll have Edgeworth grab the Vaseline, it's time for some RP. XD

((No srsly, if you've got MSN then try to IM me so we can toss some ideas about.))

I'm guilty. I can't say that I'm not. I'd like to keep up but I can't right now. I'm working 12 hour days straight, often for four and five days in a row. My brief breaks, of two to four days, are occupied by family, friends and other work so there isn't a whole lot of wiggle room.

I've apologized on many occasions and I've let staffers and members know, I'm not trying to bend the rules or anything, and I like to think that I've been doing a better job then most as far as communicating my inactivity, but there is really very little I can do about it.

That's why I have a solution. I've been trying to kill off my characters since my level of activity doesn't merit keeping them, but with other people being inactive and my own lack of time, going has been slow.

So, I'm killing all my characters, mostly myself. Laz gets the honour of killing Franco, but I'm going to write up some death posts and do most of them myself.

I've waited long enough, and I'm eager to get this over with so I can get onto V3.

I'm not complaining or anything, and I'm very glad Megami posted this, because it's all true and I think it's something that needs to be improved on come V3.
