Welcome to Survival of the Fittest, a RPing board loosely based off of Koshun Takami's Battle Royale, with its own unique plot and spin on the 'deadly game'. We've been around quite a while, and are now in our thirteenth year, so don't worry about us going anywhere any time soon!

If you're a newcomer and interested in joining, then please make sure you check out the rules. You may also want to read the FAQ, introduce yourself and stop by the chat to meet some of our members. If you're still not quite sure where to start, then we have a great New Member's Guide with a lot of useful information about getting going. Don't hesitate to PM a member of staff (they have purple usernames) if you have any questions about SOTF and how to get started!

Let the games begin!

TERMS OF ELIGIBILITY
We will hold two contests each month, one for that month's Best Kill and the other for that month's Best Death. "Best Kill" is a character-oriented prize. The winner of that contest will receive a package dropped in a temporary danger zone containing his or her new prize.

The "Best Death" contest will consist of a handler-oriented prize, because obviously, we can't give grand prizes to the rotting corpses strewn across the island, now can we? We originally considered allowing the handler to select a weapon from the available weapons list for their next character, but decided against it for fear that said handler might custom-build their character to fit their weapon (as in, they choose a shotgun and then write up a juvenile delinquent character who just so happens to be highly proficient in operating it and is an excellent marksman). So, that option went out the window. Besides, Best Death contestants are gunning for something much more valuable: a Roll Nullification Card, which allows any one rolled character (the handler’s or someone else’s, as the handler chooses) to be saved without the sacrifice of another.

Now that I've told you about the contests, we need to discuss the terms and conditions for being eligible to win. First and foremost, your kill/death HAS to be completed on time, including any extensions you may be granted. Kills or deaths written after this deadline has passed will not be eligible for that month's contest. If you are late on a death without an extension/valid reason, you will not be eligible for a Best Death. To be eligible for Best Death, you as a handler must still be actively participating on the forum. To be eligible for Best Kill, not only do you have to be active, but that specific character also has to be consistently roleplayed with. Also, I'm sure someone will ask, so I'll go ahead and answer now. Can you give one character's Best Kill prize to one of your other characters instead? No. The character who won it is the only one who can receive it. It is an in-universe award.

PRIZE CLAIMATION
One more thing about the contests... there IS a time limit to how long you can wait before claiming either of your prizes. The Best Death Prize will be given in the announcement, and requires no action to claim. For Best Kill, the time limit to collect your prize is one week (in universe, it is six hours. The weapon will be placed near enough that the character can realistically receive it). Here's another question I'm bound to get, so I'll address it now. "What if the other person/s that I'm roleplaying with won't post and it causes me to go over the time limit?" In that case, I'd strongly suggest writing yourself out of the plotline, seeing as you can leave a topic at any time. After the week is up, the area will no longer be a danger zone, and the weapon will become free game.

CONTEST VOTING
So, what if you're not interested in all that mumbo-jumbo addressed above, and you're just checking this out before you vote for your picks? Here's how this works: we didn't do this in poll format because we didn't want a lot of people just randomly voting for characters "just because" or "because their friends play them". Some of you who like to bypass reading important information might have found this out already, but the only people who can post in this forum while logged in are site administrators. The remainder of you HAVE TO BE LOGGED OUT to post here. Why are we making everyone vote as a guest? To protect anonymity, basically. You'll be required to give us your reasoning behind why you chose who you did, and we felt that it was in everyone's best interests to keep the voting as anonymous as possible. Before anybody gets the bright idea that you can abuse the system and vote repetitively for your friends to make them win, know that your IP addresses are still logged for the staff team to see.

On a final note, I want to briefly discuss reasoning, what counts, and what doesn't. I do want to forewarn you that reasons such as "I liked that death the best!" will NOT count. It has to be a legitimate reason, such as "It was easily the most detailed and enthralling death sequence," or "The action sequence surpassed every other death so far", I hope you're getting the picture. Reasons like "So-and-so is my favorite character of all time!" are bad. Similarly “for the reasons listed above” is not a valid reason for a vote. If you can't take the contest seriously, don't expect us to take your vote seriously. And finally, if you're found to be double-voting, ALL of your votes will be nullified and you'll be barred from participating in other contests. Sound fair? Enjoy!

P.S.-- We thought we wouldn't have to mention or state an obvious rule to this being that you are not allowed to vote for yourself, but circumstances have arisen and I think it's prudent that the person who is doing that to stop ASAP. Seriously now, if we don't want your friends voting for you just 'cause, why're we going to let you vote yourself into winning a prize?

A note: As of now, all responses to the contests are set to not display pending moderator approval. In effect, what this means is that all contest votes will be hidden from everyone except mods until the end of the contest, at which point we'll approve all the replies and tally the votes. This should improve the objectivity of the contest.

So, if next time you vote, you can't see your reply, that is why.
