Being a degenerate is okay these days

Nathan liked snow; it happened rarely enough in Kingman to be a fun novelty rather than an annoyance, allowing him to look forward to bundling up and tromping around in it instead of dreading it. The city always seemed a little emptier, muffled by the snow that blanketed it. This snow wasn't quite thick enough to be called a blanket yet, but there was a chance of more in the forecast for the evening, so he could hope that there would be enough to maybe get school delayed on Monday. (He had English first thing in the morning, so even slight delays were a blessing.)

Nathan let his mind wander as he walked, focusing vaguely on his breath misting as he exhaled. He was pretty tired from rehearsal at the moment, so his thoughts were turned more to getting home and curling up with a warm drink and one of his new comics than enjoying the winter scenery. Still, walking through the snow was a nice way to try and unwind a bit before then, even if he was lugging his dance bag.

Unfortunately, the peace of his afternoon was about to be shattered as he approached the street corner.
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."
