@MurderWeasel: ď@Imehal: On that note, why not dig into the math in your query to Yugi?Ē

If I am understanding this correctly, you are asking me why I didnít double-check my maths before I posted? I had somewhere to be, and didnít have time to proofread my post. I wanted a confirmation on the number to lynch so that we did not run out of time like we did yesterday.

@MK Kilmarnock: I canít remember if you have said anything about me beyond my terrible maths skills, which I cannot deny?
Yeah, it turning out you were wrong makes me feel way better. Basically, your phrasing made it clear you expected it to be eight to lynch. If it actually was, that would speak to some sort of role funkiness and would heavily imply you knew what was up (and such a role would almost certainly be scum-aligned). But since it was mod-confirmed as a math error, I have no gripes there.

@Vyse: My reads on Imehal don't quite sync, though they are perhaps of a similar character.

What set me off ever so slightly about Imehal's reads was that they tended towards a judgement followed by quotes, but the unpacking of the quotes themselves was pretty minimal--oddly so, for such a lengthy and detailed analysis. When I collect evidence with an end in mind, I like to make it pretty clear what that evidence is supporting and break it down for the peanut gallery, especially since it's not always super evident. Not doing that yet pulling select quotes feels a little like leading town by the nose while keeping just enough distance for plausible deniability.

As to choices for today, my top three at the moment (in no real order) are:

*Imehal: for pinging me seven shades of wrong. Her good activity and engagement are the only things keeping me at bay here. Her answer to my question a post or two above is likely to swing this one way or the other.

*Un: Un feels sort of scummy to me and I have a pretty good record on catching him out on that. His flip would also give me interesting points of data re: Deamon and Imehal, who are my other picks. I don't really have much concrete here, though, which is keeping me from tossing a vote down.

*Deamon: Deamon has been on the edges of the discussion, providing reads but very little meat to them. At the same time, he's made a few comments that could either be genuine or winky--it's the fact that they're quite in keeping with his genuine style that's keeping him from moving up my list.

I'd also like to get answers to my other questions, though. I might be onboard a Bik lynch if nothing else is forthcoming if he's not gonna get modkilled tonight too, though I'd of course rather see a lynch that means something.

Last point - @Yugiboss, thirteen alive means eight to lynch?
Shouldn't that be seven, that being half of thirteen (rounded up)?

@Imehal: On that note, why not dig into the math in your query to Yugi?

I'll admit, it is a little weird that Murder's townreading me as strongly as he is, because I thought I was doing a fair bit to ping him, based on our conversations/my guesses.

I'm not ready to take him off my Townlist by a long shot, but I'm a bit curious?
Basically if my theory on the game's setup is even loosely accurate you're effectively confirmed town based on your claim. Now, I could be really wrong about the setup--that's bitten me before--but even if I am, your actions strike me as really weird if you're scum.

SOTF's Tenth Anniversary
So, as the notice at the bottom of the board mentions, today is SOTF's tenth anniversary. While I now most of us haven't been here nearly that long, and the site's style, location, and focus have shifted notably, a decade of existence for an online RP is still huge.

So, yeah! It's a party in this thread, I guess!

Ironically, I'm moving back towards Imehal & TBH as scum (likely buddies) for that analysis. I'm going to try to flesh that out tonight, but it's proving to be very challenging

I think I'll be taking a short break from Mafia after this game. I still very much enjoy the game, but it's very difficult to play when one's constantly at low ebb.
I'd very much like to hear about this. There are a few things about Imehal's analysis that did stand out to me as potentially shaky but that I intentionally set aside because the overall momentum struck me as good and I'm trying not to fixate. If it's the same stuff tweaking you out, though, I may have to reexamine it.

That said, I'm not following on the TBH bit, so I feel we may be barking up different trees here.

On a sorta related note:

Aura, Goose, Bik, any chance you guys could look over each other and Un and give reads there? I think those may be some interesting avenues to pursue.

Un, any chance I can get your read on Imehal?

I dunno, I like having someone who actually knows the flavour. Considering how the game seems to be more flavour-centric than usual, that's not a bad thing.

Also, how is he more suspicious than me? I get how I'm suspicious, but I've been as useless with reads as Aura has been, and haven't contributed anything regarding flavour either.
On a personal note, I'll talk about why I don't find you as scummy as a lot of other people: you were really upfront about not having much, which is something that's likely to earn overall ire and set you up as an information lynch if we get stuck near the end of a phase. Which has been happening. A lot.

That means it's not a really good call from the PoV of scum, who are trying to stay in the game (unless you're almost caught, but I don't see that here). From the perspective of town, especially if you don't have a power role (and while you shouldn't confirm or deny this I'm suspecting rather strongly that you do not), there are much worse things than to be eliminated when you don't have a lot to contribute.

Also, on a personality level, I don't think you'd roll over so easily on this matter if working with a team.

Also, before I forget, UNVOTE while I've still got some suspicions, Imehal's contributing good momentum and I'm getting generally good vibes from her analysis which is enough to get me looking other ways this phase.

This is the post where MurderWeasel unvoted Doc, right before he immediately voted again seeing Docís most recent post. I still donít see the information we got from his lynch, other than the confirmation that flavourless can be Vanilla too.
The information I was fishing for here, for the record, was that there were town-aligned roles without flavor. I crunched the numbers and was looking for either a. enough people to claim flavorless that they couldn't possibly all be scum or b. a flip on one of the people making the claim. Mass-claiming something made-up as scum would be an incredibly gutsy and desperate gambit, but I've absolutely seen gutsy and desperate gambits work before and really wanted to be able to knock the worst case scenario off my list.

VysePresident outright stating that he has no flavour didnít sway me one way or the other regarding alignment. As scum, it would be a decent gambit to cause chaos and as Town, it stops confusion to some extent regarding motives against the flavour claim. As I write this I suddenly realise that outright stating that did not help Town at all and I donít know how to feel about thatÖ
The catch here is that ScumVyse! could only have made such a claim if scum legitimately have some flavorless members, and I'd be a bit surprised were that the case. A lack of flavor serves mostly as a balancing factor by limiting the amount of data town can pull. It's certainly possible, especially with the weirdness of this game, but even in that instance, scum wouldn't necessarily know that town had roles without fluff--in fact, all signs to that point suggested the opposite. I just don't see a situation in which it makes sense or gains Vyse anything as scum to claim as he did, while there are lots of solid reasons to do so as town.

[I apologise in advance if the formatting is hell, but I can only see the first bit of the post on preview.]
Still reading the rest, but this is a bug I get sometimes too. Usually if you wait a couple minutes and mash preview again it'll sort itself out. Just in case it's useful in the future!

New General SOTF Discussion Thread
I think I've said this elsewhere, but I feel every handler I can think of is doing as well as or better than they were at a comparable stage in V5's pregame. I mean, obviously I think people should keep trying to improve and shouldn't slack just because it's good so far or anything, but on the whole I've felt like there's been a really nice upswing in quality.

Okay! Regarding the vote. Iíd say I addressed what you said yesterday, but it is clear that there is still some suspicion floating around. Is there anything you can particularly pinpoint that I havenít responded to, as a point for me to carry on the discussion?
Not really, honestly--it's why I'm not overly strong on this vote and am gonna go fishing for either a. more to shore it up or b. someone else to toss it towards. I'm pretty much not wholly convinced by the answers and explanations I received, but I don't think receiving more answers and explanations are going to to change that; what may help is getting other people's reads on the situation/conversation, and seeing how your play develops from here out.

So, while I'm looking over the thread, I just want to ask, why aren't we pushing suspects?

Deamon, TBH? TBH, I'd particularly like to see how your reads have developed since that long post.

I'm currently seriously considering Imehal at this point, just for feeling off, but I just don't trust my judgment right now. :-/

Give me time to sleep on it, please.
So, this was basically exactly the post I was going to make. Except I was going to add a VOTE: Imehal

This is a vote to indicate suspicion and get some discussion going, and it's not one I'm necessarily going to sit on if something of even equal interest comes up for me. That said, Imehal's play the past few phases has stuck out for me for the reasons I think I broke down yesterday.

Added to that, her dismissal of Aura's theory reads super oddly to me; I talked a bit about it here. It just seems like a really odd series of assumptions for a player to make, and that's a pattern I've seen in Imehal's play this game that is pretty unsettling to me.

Eri Akita
Heya, MuseMan! Sorry for the massive delay on giving Eri a second look; I had houseguests followed by the flu and am still catching up.

Eri's looking a lot better, but there are still a few things that need tweaking.

I'm still having some trouble with Eri's mother's move to the United States. Some of the places where there should be more detail are a bit underdeveloped (moving to a new country is a really complicated process, especially with no parental help. If she came on her own, what sort of visa was she on? Why did she pick the US--the university system is really different from that found in England, which can make for a much more jarring transition.) and other areas there's detail that's not really needed (I'd personally suggest cutting the exotic dancer thing, for example; it's not very relevant to the actual sequence of events and raises a lot more questions than it answers). Also, what sort of degree did Andrea pursue? Is it still something related to law? And what sort of job did she get with the City Council? Just being a member of the Council isn't actually a job--it's an elected political office, and one that would require a lot more detail.

I'm also still really not sold on the University of Phoenix--if the only goal is to get a school in the Phoenix area, Arizona State University is a better choice without the baggage, and is only eight miles from Phoenix.

I'd like a bit more information on Eri's parents' attempts to socialize her. If their efforts generally failed, wouldn't that make them worry more?

Middle school in Arizona actually starts in sixth grade, not fifth. This means most of the middle-school era events should probably be pushed back a grade/year.

I think a couple words are missing here: "In light of her situation and prior academic excellence, the school authorities allowed her to graduate anyway so that she could avoid the multitude that would arise from being held back a year." Multitude of what?

What shared interests changed between Eri and her friends? It sounds like to this day she's into most of the same stuff she used to be, with the exception of softball. Was the friendship so centered around the team?

There are references to Eri's avoiding depression or having been depressed, but when she actually is depressed it's never really brought up. Can I get a bit more detail on that if we're talking actual depression, or a clarification of words if it's not quite so severe?

I'm having some issues with how Eri's attitude towards her illness lines up with her parents'. If she's so intent on powering through, why would her father have any issues? It seems that's exactly what he wants her to do. I'm also a bit thrown by Eri's insisting on going on trips even though doing so makes her illness very obvious and public, when she's apparently really bothered by people defining her by her illness--why not just skip the trips and be more private about it? How do her parents feel about her pushing herself so hard? Do they agree with her somewhat risky choices?

Also, I'd like to know a lot more about what steps Eri and her family have taken to deal with her illness in the years since its development. There are a lot of treatments that have varying degrees of efficacy--which have they tried, and to what extent have they or have they not been helpful?

What does Eri perceive as genuine hatred and ignorance? Kingman is a place where a lot of socially conservative stances have a pretty decent foothold, so she's pretty likely to run into people with, say, religious objections to homosexuality rather frequently. Does this set her off?

Post when you've got that taken care of, and I'll give Eri another look. Thanks!
