"Tsk!" clicked Terra, as the Sledge virus teleported near her, its hammer attacks nearly breaking through her iron defenses. However, they were restored easily enough, with the yellowish gleam of her barrier illuminating the armor that had reconstructed itself around her body. Leaping directly away from the source of the assault, she tried to restore her bearings once again. How had the enormous statue-like virus even gotten near her? There was no indication that it was anything but immobile-- or so she thought. Unfortunately, her earlier observation had missed the Shellgeek's unorthodox ally delivery system. "Scarlet, I need something to break through its defenses, please," she requested.

"Coming up. Try to get those Spooky viruses first, they look like they'd be a pain," advised Scarlet as she sent in the chips.

Terra nodded silently, at the same time continuing to observe the other viruses. Her earlier attack had paid off quite well, wiping out another good chunk of threat and leaving only a small piece of resistance behind. In fact, things had gone a bit too well, though perhaps this was a little bit of luck after having dealt with the gut-busting tentacle bandits. There was no time to contemplate her fortunes just yet, however. Holding both of her hands out, an emerald gleam started to form in both of her gloved palms as she put Scarlet's battlechips into action. Her left hand, however, also started to shift its green into a bit of red, then back to green, then back to red again.

It only took a few moments before the dim lights became blinding lasers, which fired out seemingly haphazardly in every direction. The green laser from her right hand, however, was specifically directed towards the Sledge virus that she had just targeted. With a bit of luck, the laser would also bounce off to a nearby virus as well. Then, the ground started to rumble deeply, as she drew upon the metallic bonds beneath her feet once again. This time, however, it was a bit less flashy, with the rumbling turning into a nearly invisible arc of electricity that traveled rapidly across the ground, heading first towards the seemingly oblivious corn-shaped virus, arcing afterwards to other nearby unlucky viruses it happened to chance on.

Without slowing down, Terra was quick to reform her defences, while the ShellGeek finished cooling down and closed its shell tightly. the sledge, up close and personal, took another mighty swing at the assailed navi, but missed its stroke. The booming shock-wave of sparks that followed also failed to connect with Terra, and they danced harmlessly off the Sledge's own restored aura, but the unprotected Spooky nearby caught an amplified jolt of sparks that came very close to finishing it off. The one that still had a barrier, strangely, avoided the spark shower completely, and got to keep its protective, for now.

Reeling from the repeated friendly-fire, the hurt Spooky continued to focus on doing patch-up work, restoring the damaged ShellGeek with glowing purple energy – as far as the spooky family of viruses normally went this one had shown some quite sterling resilience. While it was taking care of that, Terra launched her trick-shot laser-light of energy, which pierced easily through the statue's aura and cracked the stone of its body visibly, before ricocheting back to crack the protected Spooky's barrier with the last of its energy.

The flickering lights of her other hand settled on green at last, then flooded back into her body restoring some of her injuries, while the corn virus, still bouncing around off on its own, launched another bomb that, as before, did nothing of note. It seemed pleased with this anyway. unfortunately for the oblivious virus, Terra was about to put an end to its questionable existence, with a wave attack that consumed a large chunk of the panels around her to power its electrical charge. The arc popped the corn with great thoroughness, filling the air with the scent of movie-night, before zinging back to deliver swift punishment to the ghost that had just been striped of its barrier a moment before. It had tried to lick Terra again just before-hand, but as before, missed her by a wide margin with its indelicate tongue-flailing. he other ghost, too, felt the sting of Terra's wrath and was finally blown from the net; there would be no healing that hit.

More pressingly, the shot had forced Terra to convert much of the ground beneath her to power its electrical charge, and as the ground under her feet reverted to normal panels, her defences flickered and faltered. The sledge saw its chance and swung the hammer again, but Terra wasn't without resources and managed to throw herself out of the way of the strike before it could connect. Another shower of sparks exploded from the end of the hammer as it finished the stroke, and these ones did shower Terra with a few light stings, but without its aura to protect it, the Sledge fared no better.

Almost forgotten about, while the rest of this exchange was taking place, the large metallic dumbbell heaved itself up and careened back across the field, making a second pass at the now closed up Shellgeek virus. Unfortunately for the virus, presenting a large, hard shell to the crushing weight was exactly what it was good for, and it shattered the virus with a great deal of personal satisfaction, before fading away. This left Terra facing off against just one final foe, in the form of the badly damaged meta-virus. The battle would be over soon, but it didn't seem to want to give up without a fight, and raised its hammer defiantly as its aura crackled back into life around it.

"..."

Looking up at the enormous hammer that the virus amalgam in front of her was raising, Terra seemed to stare past the hammer, as the ground beneath her started to shine into a cold grey once again. With its elemental properties newly refreshed, the metal-infused earth under her feet could now supply her with her defenses once again. With the Sledge being her only adversary, she could take a bit of time to recover, as her defenses should be sufficient enough to take on whatever she had seen from it so far.

"... Scarlet, I think I'd like to take a short break. Could you please send me some healing before I move on? A Sword, as well, for some self-defense, should this last one prove to be a problem," she said, sitting down with her legs crossed on the metal floor. With the barrier enveloping her immediate vicinity as well as the toughened armor, Terra's expression visibly changed, from one of tension to that of weary relief.

"Sure, but... are you sure you want to keep going?" said Scarlet, her fingers moving across the chip selection screen absent-mindedly. Sunk into her thoughts, Scarlet didn't notice her hand brush against one of the chips that Terra had gotten earlier, sending it in between the two chips the Navi had requested.

An enormous white Candle appeared behind Terra, its flickering light infusing her with its restorative energy and giving her a bit more vitality to think with. "... Well..." hesitated Terra. "I would like to take more of a rest, but at the same time, I don't want to lose track of this area." The vision of what she had just encountered not a few minutes ago flashed through her mind. "That huge... beast? I would like to see it again."

"Hmmm... Okay! Just give me a few minutes," said Scarlet, as the voice channel suddenly went silent, and Terra was left alone with her thoughts. The Navi blinked slightly, before looking up at the Sledge that she had been left alone with. She then activated her next battlechip, expecting it to be a Sword, but instead, a pile of fur suddenly materialized in her lap. Somewhat surprised from the unexpected intrusion, she found that it was a Bandcoon, with one of its eyes covered with an eyepatch, and a small armband on its left frontal paw. It immediately skittered off towards the Sledge, leaving a surprised Terra with only her eyes raised in surprise.

The next one, however, caused a pillar of rock to form in her right hand, just as she had expected. She then swung it in the Sledge's direction, fully expecting the sword to bounce off of its protective aura, just as she expected its attacks to be of no consequence to her. Being a statue, it certainly wasn't going anywhere, but the gesture was only intended as a bit of intimidation. Whether it would be effective still remained to be seen.

With the battle mostly cleared up, Terra faced down her final opponent and took an intelligent assessment of it. After returning the metal panels beneath her feet and restoring her protectives, she realised there was little the lone sledge could now do to hurt her, and took time out to catch her breath and rest up before the next push.

The Sledge, watching her, tried to get another strike in before her armour came up again, but this time it wasn't fast enough, and the blow rang off her refreshed planar barrier, failing to break through. The shockwave that washed off the hammer as it struck also failed to have any effect on either of the two combatants. It did, however, seem to realise that this wasn't going to work and its eyes shifted across the battlefield for an edge.

While this was going on, Terra activated one of her restorative chips, setting up the candle behind her, and this immediately drew the virus' gaze. It knew it couldn't harm Terra in her current state, but as the candle pulsed restorative energy, it knew that that was something it could put a halt to, maybe. The large statue shifted suddenly; it wasn't animated in any way, but as it moved, Terra might realise that it was, in fact, hovering just above the ground, and thus had no trouble in making a deceptively quick shift around her position to put itself in range of the candle instead, swinging its hammer a second time.

It did manage to connect the blow with its hammer this time; it would have been impressive if it had failed, against a stationary target, but the candle itself was surprisingly sturdy, and though the blunt instrument embedded itself in the body of wax, the flame continued to pulse happily, unabated. A rocky rumble of annoyance emanated from the stone statue and it tugged the hammer free. A further cascade of sparks spilled from the virus as it did, but to little effect.

Distracted by these efforts, it didn't see the mischievous little bandcoon, brought back for more fun by Terra's chip; despite their earlier altercation, the eye-patch wearing critter didn't seem to hold a grudge against her, and it nuzzled Terra with a happy chitter before setting about its task. the task in question seemed to see it scurry up and over the large statue, hesitating only slightly as it pushed its way through the aura in order to climb on the virus itself. there was a creak and a rumble of stone as the Sledge noticed it and tried to throw it off, but it was far too late, and too slow to stop the nimble little fur ball from frisking it thoroughly. It returned to Terra with a sound that could almost be identified as giggling, maybe, holding something up to her proudly. There wasn't time to see just what it had retrieved yet – data of some kind certainly, though it did seem proud of itself, but more than that was difficult to say just yet.

The strangeness of the unexpected series of events might have thrown Terra temporarily off her balance, as her follow-up sword strike failed to connect with the statue in front of her, but she could probably rest assured that even if she had hit it, the aura would only have restored itself a moment later anyway.

The tag-team of the Sledge somehow demonstrating movement as well as the unexpected friendliness of the Bandcoon had taken Terra mostly by surprise, though she recovered quickly. Seeing that the Sledge had gotten behind her, she realized that the virus was aiming for her source of recovery, and immediately encased the candle with her protective armor. While one normally would be more concerned about the flame being put out, the Candles summoned by Battlechips seemed to be a lot more persistent in that regard.

"... Not so fast."

She then spun in place with a quick step, and disappeared in a flash. Before anyone noticed, Terra had placed herself between the virus and the restorative candle, the familiar glow of her protective barrier enveloping her as she wielded her rocky sword. Assuming a wider stance, she swung hard in the Sledge's general direction, aiming to break through its defense before drawing back slightly to anticipate a counterattack. Then, ducking into a slide charge, she swung once more, this time in a strong diagonal strike, towards its dominant arm where it put forth most of its hammer-swinging power.

Despite the unusual events, Terra adapted swiftly to make the most of the temporary slow down in battling pace. the sledge wasn't waiting around, and was trying to deal more damage by splitting her attention and defences, and to a certain extent it worked; Terra was forced to put herself between the virus and the candle in order to protect it, and the statue didn't hesitate in crashing its stormy hammer into her armour casing, causing it to crumble. She avoided the residual shock-wave from the blow, and the Candle, safe in its brand new protective covering, weathered it without further damage.

With her armour broken, Terra restored her barrier instead and struck out, destroying the Sledge's aura with her first strike, and scoring a potent hit with her second, dodging past its viciously swinging hammer in between. The secondary nova of electrical energy clipped both her and the candle, but even though this was enough to wear out the candle's armour, it endured without further harm and continued to heal the nature-navi up while she toyed with her final target.

"... Hm!" grunted Terra, as she skittered backwards slightly from the strong blow. Sparks flew from underneath her boots as her defenses were restored, with any damage dealt to her body being swiftly denied. Whatever Scarlet had in plan for her, she simply had to maintain her ground for as long as she was absent. Besides, this time she had a decent way to finish off her opponent while she was gone. Gripping her rocky sword tightly, she cried out wordlessly as she pressed the advantage with a forward strike, aiming to crush the persistent defenses that the Sledge had been resisting her with. Then, using the momentum from her first strike, she turned on her heel and drove the sword in once again for a second follow-up. This was in case the virus happened to bring out some last-resort evasive maneuvers, as she had seen it being capable of doing earlier.

The pillar of rock in her hand had begun to crumble from all of the swinging it had been subjected to, but Terra wasn't quite done yet. Circuit lines snaked in from the floor through her legs and into the sharpened stalactite, peeling away its rocky exterior to reveal a gleaming iron sword beneath. Her eyes focused intently on her target as she prepared her final strike. The yellow circuit lines ran along its length with powerful electrical arcs as she then drove it forward with a bellow, aiming to lodge it in between the last virus's eyes.

With her short rest mostly conclude,d Terra was about ready to finish off her final tenacious foe and refreshed her own defences wand struck out at the virus again, knocking down its Aura and preparing to finish the job with a last pair of swipes. the sledge had enough time to swing its hammer one more time ,and it did succeed in obliterating her candle, and bathing Terra herself in a wash of electrical sparks, but it wasn't fast enough to stop the last pulses of light from topping Terra off, and the spark shower wasn't enough to get through her barrier. Her last empowered cut split the statue in two, and the battle, at very long last, was finally over.

Nearby, the destroyed mimic had resolved into an ethereal data crystal, which now unpacked itself automatically for Terra to claim, in between searching the battlefield for what was a very sizable haul of rewards, and well earned. Amidst her searching, Terra would find data that cold be used as a chip, presumably left behind by the large Kodiak bear, wile the mystery data revealed a second chip, in the form of a sonic blade. Her helpful Bandcoon had also provided some loot, which she was now able to assess; it turned out to be a chip as well, and one somewhat suited to her tastes, no less. For the rest there was zenny, but there was quite a lot of it, all told.

Crouching with the blade in her hand as the Sledge disintegrated before her eyes, Terra seemed to freeze for a moment. The metal sword in her hand began to disintegrate as she breathed in, slowly rising back to standing height. Her fingers clenched and unclenched briefly, feeling the energy that coursed through them, thanks to the effects of the healing candle. Looking around, Terra realized that she was alone, and took the opportunity to sit down for a moment to catch her breath. She then immersed herself in her own thoughts, restoring the ground beneath her as she closed her eyes. It almost felt as if all the mental fatigue she had been accumulating drained out through her skin, leaving a dim warmth in her core.

In the middle of her meditative recovery, a voice popped up in the back of her head. "Terra, I'm back. Really sorry I've had to leave you for a bit there-- Oh, are you asleep?"

The Navi's eyes fluttered open, and Scarlet breathed a sigh of relief. "... Mm, it's all right, Scarlet. Did you find what you were looking for?"

"Right, yeah. Check this out!" said Scarlet, as she took out a small chip that depicted a transfer pad. "I got this from a local shop, it'll let you home in on a set area so you can come back to it later, kind of like a save point. Neat, isn't it?"

Terra's eyes widened slightly. "... That is very useful."

"Yeah! So you can leave for a bit and we can get back to it later. Should I pop it in now?" the operator asked. Unexpectedly, however, Terra rose to her feet, dusting herself off and shaking her head slowly.

"... No, I changed my mind."

"Wait, huh? Are you sure? You looked pretty beat like two minutes ago."

"...A few more battles, then I'll retire for the moment," said Terra, as she surveyed the cleared area, before walking towards the direction where she had been heading earlier, eager to search for her target.

"If you say so..."

With the taxing fight finally over, and with her operator prepared in the case of a quick withdrawal, Terra decided that she was rested enough to continue, and followed the large passage at the base of the chamber, in the direction that the strange entity had disappeared. none of the other worker beetles from the hive seemed to have returned after it was destroyed, and the queen crushed, but the tunnels themselves seemed to go in all directions, so who knew how far the massive, underground hive went.

This tunnel continue on, winding occasionally, in the soft damp earth for some time, but eventually Terra began to find traces that she was, indeed, heading in the right direction. It started, as it had the first time, with small plants; the underground was always rich with deep-dwelling life, but soon more signs of it began to show themselves. The large, circular tunnel came to an end in a hollowed out chamber, much smaller than the other, that had apparently been used by the insects to store some kind of plant matter, which had now overgrown to an effusive extent, springing up into fresh growths that all seemed to have begun more or less at the same time; the storage pile had filled one part of the chamber, but was now responsible for plant coverage of half the chamber in every direction. There were many smaller exits to the chamber, but none of them were the sort used by the actual giant insects; rather they meandered into a loose cave and tunnel network that was generally of much smaller size. Navis not used to the feeling of the earth might begin to get a little claustrophobic to be so far underground and in much narrower spaces.

Even so, it was increasingly easy to follow the direction that Terra wanted to take; just following the healthiest soil and the greatest volume of natural growth seemed to form a clear direction, though she often needed to change directions to follow it as the tunnels crossed over one another. The moss was back. Not quite as vibrant as it had been when she was close to the creature, but it was very much the same mossy growth.

At one intersection, Terra would find her choice of direction easy to follow, but before she could move off, a rumble and shudder resounded through the space, and things began to move. The space bore a couple of oddities that Terra might begin to see as the hostiles showed up; there were occasional patches of metal panelling on the ground, and a few structures that looked much more inorganic, embedded in the tunnel walls and across some of the passage-ways. It looked almost like this used to be some kind of installation, but old, derelict, and long since abandoned. Exactly what had been worked on so deep beneath the ground in Okuden was anyone's guess, but it probably wasn't good – Terra might be aware that she was reaching the lower edges of the normal Okuden net, and if she strayed too far, she might well find herself in a deeper net altogether.

As for the hostiles that were showing themselves now, there was something quite odd about many of them. The first looked like a mobile mound of vegetation at first, but closer inspection revealed it to be a low-profile tank-like machine, decked in green, and with a heavy roller on the front. The paint was worn in places, and the metal was in poor repair in others, but most obviously, the entire tank was over-grown in a thick covering of moss that seemed to have sunk into all its parts. It seemed to be having some trouble moving, because the front roller was made of wood, and it had begun to sprout fresh shoots of life in every direction. The body of the tank seemed largely impervious, and the main turret bore a strong shutter, but the back end looked vulnerable, and the shutter would have to open if the tank wanted to attack her. It was approaching her from the front, down the main passage Terra had been following to being with, trundling towards an over-grown barricade that stood over the tunnel between her and it. It didn't appear to have any intention of stopping.

To her left, down a different branch, Terra would be able to see another large, overgrown machine, similarly covered in moss, but this one was built a little differently; it had an impressive shield attached to its main turret, which swivelled freely of the caterpillar treads that moved it. It was also moving towards Terra, leading a pair of smaller Kabutanks behind it. On one side of the tunnel that these three were approaching from, an inorganic archway was in an equal state of over-grown disrepair, but it seemed to be supporting a small alcove in the tunnel wall, that emitted a tantalising blue glow.

A third passage, to Terra's left, was bisected by a thick metal support, rusted and covered in fresh moss as well. Several of the metal panels at its base seemed to have lifted up and turned inwards as they were pushed aside by fresh growth and rich earth. The sonic sounds of shrieking echoed down the passage, heralding two pulsebats winged down the tunnel rapidly, passing either side of the pillar, just as an irate-looking virus with a shovel popped up from the ground behind Terra and muttered something unintelligible in her direction. A fight was upon her, that much seemed clear.

"Oh, right, Terra, I've exchanged a few of our less-used chips for some nicer ones. I'll send you the list so you can check it out on your own," said Scarlet, as she readjusted her position on the bed. Shortly after, Terra could also hear the bed bounce slightly, though she found it hard to imagine the sound originating from merely adjusting her position. "Hm, let me take a look too, seeing as I'm awake now," she heard a male voice say, which she recognized as being Luke's. The young man scratched his chin as he scooted up next to her operator. "Oh, I guess you beat that spider from earlier, Terra?"

"... Yes, it was a hard-fought fight," answered Terra, looking distantly off into the narrowing tunnels. Without the spunky commentary and cheerful atmosphere that her partner provided, Terra was almost tempted to resummon Carbide back out. However, she had only wanted to continue a little further to find a more suitable area to carve out a home base; the earlier spider nest was far too risky of an area. Still, as she continued onwards, her thoughts were steadied a little more by the lack of spidery resistance. Perhaps their lack of a queen would cause this particular settlement to peter out, though she couldn't say much more for any other possible nests.

"What a fascinating area, I don't think I've seen anything like it. This has been under Okuden all this time?" commented Luke, though he didn't elicit any response from Terra, who was wholly focused on following the "trail of the beast". Her tenacity worried Scarlet, who watched her Navi pursue the scent like a loyal bloodhound, winding in and out of tunnels that seemed to have no sense of consistency in their size or construction. As Terra explored further, however, even Scarlet and Luke could see for themselves that the trail that Terra followed was noticeably more lush with vegetation-- and if one looked closely, there was a hint of unnatural metal here and there.

Before any of them could contemplate the discrepancy, however, the enemies started showing up one by one, and Terra tensed up. One enemy in particular appeared to be an enormous turret-wielding tank, which sent red warning signals through her. "Scarlet, please send me the Anti-Fire and this new... WoodDragon. Perhaps the Pickpocket as well?" she said, the dim green glow of her protective barrier signalling the start of her battle routine.

"On it," said Scarlet, the chips quickly finding themselves into Terra's processing queue.

The ground beneath her emitted a subtle clicking sound as a tiny red seed sprouted. The little sprout lingered for a moment before a little scarlet flower peeked out. The flower fluttered idly between her feet, but its innocuous appearance belied its true purpose. Under the earth, the little flower spread its roots wildly about the battlefield, peeking out at regular intervals into the air with undetectable tiny buds. Each of the buds was sensitive to heat changes, and would actively search for an incendiary reaction. Upon detection, it would sprout again underneath the area, and deprive the area of the oxygen required to fuel the fire, before spewing it back out in a roaring reversal. In addition, once Terra had released it, the process was entirely autonomous, and would additionally restrain itself from triggering on an attack from its origin, namely herself.

Meanwhile, another creature presented itself near Terra's feet, which made itself out to be the Bandcoon from earlier, garbed in eyepatch and armband as proof of its origins. It curled around her leg like an affectionate cat and looked up at her with its single eye. Terra's face softened up as she knelt down to rub its head briefly. The little summoned virus chittered in satisfaction before it launched itself fearlessly towards one of the huge turrets. Before anyone noticed, Terra herself had disappeared as well, rapidly traversing the hidden transfer lines within the ground.

She warped back into existence moments later, now situated behind the triple tank formation that had formed in one of the passages. Right before she unleashed her attack, she noticed a small glowing crystal nestled in an alcove, and immediately began encasing it in a protective lining. Her immediate surrounding then began to vibrate with vigor, before her attack started. Her eyes lit up with energy, and a projection of light started to take shape before her, rapidly forming into the head of a emerald serpentine dragon. The green projection roared loudly before it dashed forward, ravaging any enemies that it happened to burst through.

Fixed on following in the wake of the ponderous entity, Terra wasn't about to let a few disgruntled and overgrown mechanical viruses get in her way for long; as well as prepping one line of defence,s she also surmised the incendiary tendencies of some of the opposing machines and prepared accordingly. While she was setting up, though, the low-profile tank was trundling forward aggressively towards her, aiming its muzzle as it did; the small network of carefully grown plants that Terra was protecting herself with had also caused a small whine of sound from the mossy tank, and that seemed to have spurred its determination to run her down directly. It seemed mostly to ignore the barricade in front of it, the large, spiky wooden roller in the front bashing it down flat with ease as the tank came on. The more the over-grown roller turned, the more long ends of branches broke off, turning it into a spiked menace of a weapon. Pushing down the barrier did manage to divert its course just slightly, and as the tank rolled into the cross-roads it missed barging into Terra herself directly. What didn't miss, however, was the turret shot that blasted out of its muzzle as it moved, crushing Terra's barrier and tossing her backwards down the left branch of the tunnel. In a small concession, it seemed as though the Flintlock probably shouldn't have fired that particular round quite so close to itself, as part of the blast blew back in through its open shutter, damaging it as well.

The two shrieking PulseBats took exception to the navis sudden arrival, and both sent piercing sonic blasts at her in unison. Already slightly dishevelled from the initial tank shell, Terra was left with her ears ringing, both attacks hammering down on her (-50, -50). Down the other end of the junction, the second larger tank raised its shield and presented a very broad calibre, dangerous looking main gun down the hall towards her, and a hum sounded as it began to charge up. While it was occupied, Terra had a smaller, cuter surprise for it, and her little Bandcoon was quick to close the distance, and begin clambering over the virus and searching its insides for loot. Who knew what it might find in there?

While the larger virus was charging, the two smaller viruses tried to lay down some quick covering fire on Terra's position, lobbing a volley of bomb shells that exploded in quick succession as they rained down. Unfortunately for the pair of Kabutanks, Terra disappeared from the blast zone before any of their rounds managed to hit her, reappearing at the far end of the passage, behind all three vehicles. The main gun from the Magnum began to swivel about, still charging, as the roller-bearing tank turned to face her, trundling up the tunnel in her direction again. The passage was just broad enough for the two larger viruses to pass by each other, and the smaller one quickly zipped out of the Flintlock's path as it rumbled along. As it passed the Magnum, the latter began to roll back slowly, away from Terra as it trained the main gun on her, and made more room for the Flintlock to take the fore.

This time, try as she might, Terra wasn't able to get away from the oncoming roller entirely, and took a glancing blow that was half crushing, half piercing as the broken branch ends of the roller tore at her (-20). As the crusher threw her back a few more feet, however, Terra would feel something more worrying; her connection to the protective plants she'd threaded the field with was suddenly, and sharply, interrupted. Their ability to respond to fire failed along with it, as they lost direct connection with Terra herself. If the shock if this interruption came as a disorienting shock to Terra, then it would be a good excuse for her inability to escape as a smaller, laser-assisted tracer turret on the Flintlock zeroed in on her and fired a lightning quick, shot that pierced through her body almost faster than anyone could follow. In truth, it wasn't really Terra's fault; the shot was unerringly precise (-40). More troubling still, was that as the slim tracer round struck her, there was a blip in her internal coding, and a part of her navi customiser went suddenly dead – her protective undershirt was still functional, as was her affinity with the terrain, but for now, it felt as though, even if she were fully healed, she wouldn't have as much protection as normal.

As she reeled from this, The momogra popped out of the ground just in front of her, making teasing and taunting sounds, and then, a moment after, the Magnum's main gun fired. There were too many distractions all at once, and Terra didn't manage to avoid the devastating shell; her defences were broken and her fire protection was already compromised as the shot took her full in the chest and burned. A brutal amount of fire consumed her as the blast exploded, cracking the ground beneath her feet as it seared her body, and Terra felt the ominous jolt of her undershirt triggering with its last moment protection. She was left smoking and smouldering, but still alive and able to retaliate with as much force of nature as she could muster. It was, as it turned out, rather a lot.

The dragon that she unleashed in response roared back down the passage, bringing life with it as it went. Before her, the momogra attempted to burrow under the soil to get away, but this only ended up hastening its demise. Next, the wood spirit tore through the Flintlock, breaking it apart and shredding the metal of its shell, before obliterating the two smaller Kabutanks, and flipping the Magnum over on its side while it tried to cool off from its high-powered shot. It wasn't destroyed yet, but it was close.

When it finally faded, all that was left at the juncture was the two pulse-bats, looking like they wanted to fly up and away for now, as well as the badly damage MagnumGuard, and a desperately injured Terra.

Being on the receiving end of an unexpectedly severe barrage of attacks, Terra stumbled backwards slightly from the last bit of cannon fire, as she tried to process what had happened. One of the machines had charged her down and fired a round near her, taking down her only defense. Combined with the screeches of the PulseBat duo, she had been quite heavily injured before she had warped across the area. Thankfully, the transfer had dulled her pain almost entirely before she had released her attack, though it didn't help her much against the combined follow-up of the Flintlock and MagnumGuard's machine dominance.

"Terra!!" Scarlet and Luke exclaimed, almost in unison.

Though she could articulate what had happened mostly in her head, her senses weren't exactly following up, as the force of the Magnum's firestorm had left her ears ringing. Hazy as her sight might be, she could still see what appeared to be the MagnumGuard's barrels staring down at her, still smoking from its attack. Rolling forward with the last of her energy, she stumbled into a near-prone position; only the bare minimum was possible for her at the moment. "... K-Kh!!" choked out Terra. Her defenses flickered back online as the energy from the grass under her jumpstarted her recovery.

However, her innate recovery function was scarcely sufficient to get her back on her feet. Nevertheless, she felt a surge of energy from within, along with some familiar data. "Hang on, Terra, we're here!" said Scarlet, frantic worriment coloring her declaration. Hearing her operator's familiar supportive voice, Terra forced a little smile onto her battered face as her senses began to rapidly recover, and she saw the side of the overturned Magnum turret. The grass beneath her feet also "spoke" to her, and thus far, there was nothing on the ground except for the fallen machine in front of her. And thanks to Scarlet, she had received just the right tool to take care of it.

Holding up her hand, dirt began to float up about her arm, revolving around it to form the small barrel of a buster arm. Its end glowed a dim green as it whined to life, gathering energy from around her, including the turret in front of her. She attempted to redirect some of the energy from the weapon's absorption into her own, before the cannon finally charged itself to full, and could no longer hold its payload for much longer. The buster arm let loose a deafening boom as it shot towards the turret, hopefully destroying it before it could do her any more harm.

Critical but undaunted, Terra pressed her advantage in the aftermath of her dragon attack. The two PulseBats, on the other side of the junction, skittered up to the ceiling of the passage, fluttering about the roof in disarray while the Magnum's turret swivelled and its shield arm shifted position. Terra vaulted the overturned virus as recovery energy suffused her body and her other defences created more of a buffer, taking her out of immediate danger.

As she landed, there was a dull thump; the Magnum had turned its shield to the ground, and fired one of the turret's frontal guns, and a combination of recoil and the shockwave from the ground just barely managed to tip it back upright, onto its treads, but it was ultimately only a small victory; just as it righted itself, Terra let loose with a pair of quick attacks that tore clean through and separated the turret from the treads. So much for fire-wielding tanks. The bats still remained, and seemed to have collected themselves enough that they'd be trying again soon, but Terra was in a far better position than she had been a few moments ago.

"... Phew. I think I'll be all right for now, Scarlet, Luke."

As Terra began to regain her footing, Scarlet let out a subdued sigh of relief, while Luke remarked on the situation. "Ahaha, it never ceases to amaze me how programs can fix themselves up so quickly. If only I could have something as convenient as a recovery patch." Her heart had skipped a beat for a moment when she saw the turret swivel about to right itself, but that was only a brief respite for it before it succumbed to her cannon fire. As she was now, she was halfway towards recovering fully, but just as she was about to relax, she heard the telltale flapping of the PulseBats' wings, coming from the entrance of the tunnel next to hers. Her pose tensed up instinctively; she hadn't really noticed it herself, but the mammalian fliers had done the most effective damage to her.

Scarlet noticed the change. "Still some left?"

"... Yes, I'd like two more additional attacks to take them out," requested Terra, digging her boots into the grass as she did so. At the moment, the bats were out of sight, as they had flown up towards the ceiling, but she knew they would come to ground level sooner or later. Waiting for the bats to show themselves, she pondered the scenery about her for a moment. While she had seen the mossy path earlier, there was also the question of the machines, clearly inorganic and most likely installed there by someone. While she was quite curious as to their origin, she was not shaken from her original intent.

Almost simultaneously, she heard the bats' approach, as well as the "feeling" of battlechip data being received on her end. There was a new one in the ranks that she had not been accustomed to before, but once its details presented itself to her, she nodded-- mostly to herself-- in satisfaction. She then turned to let her side face towards the mouth of the tunnel, focused intently on the targets of her prepared attack. Then, once she saw her chance, she stomped on the grass before her powerfully, sending noticeable tremors about her position. The ground before her cracked violently, before sending off two solid chunks of grassy earth flying forward at one of the bats. Another attack was also on its way, though much less flashy-- an electric spark raced through the surface of the grass before exiting directly below the other bat, aiming to electrocute it into deletion.

Mostly recovered, at least as well as she was able to, Terra focused on cutting down the remaining foes facing her, so she could have another short breather from the unexpectedly deadly encounter. the two bats did indeed swoop down to send more sonic blasts her way, but the first one caught a large chunk of earth square in the face before it could open its mouth, and the shriek, when it emerged, simply resonated off the walls of the passage and dissipated harmlessly. Terra's second chunk of flung earth belted the virus right after, removing it from the net.

The other PulseBat had more luck, but while the damaging shriek hammered on Terra's protective barrier enough to collapse the field, that was all it was able to do. A few moments after, her counter-attack struck true and finished off the final virus.

With quiet returned to the deep, dark tunnels, Terra had an extra moment to gather up her spoils while her eager Bandcoon popped up out of the wreckage of the destroyed battle tank and bounded over to present her with something approximating useful chip data, albeit. It seemed to have gotten engine grease on its fur and was a bit matted and sticky. Oh well.

In between examining her spoils, that would also leave Terra the question of what she wished to do with the blue crystal she'd protected during the brawl; her last experience with a data crystal had gone dangerously, but surely such ill-luck wouldn't happen twice in a row. In other news, once the battle had cooled off, the nasty interruption in her navicust cleared up and the darkened section came back online. Less fortunate was that the lacking protection it afforded didn't come back right away along with it.

With the last of the viruses truly routed, Terra exhaled slowly. The Bandcoon from earlier bounded to her side joyfully with its spoils, taking the opportunity to also rub up against her leg affectionately. Terra smiled as she patted the summoned virus on the head, before it disappeared into the ether. The battle had been hard-fought, but she had mostly recovered from it thanks to her operator's quick reactions. However, the last of the rewards was still to be claimed, as she looked to the side at the spinning Mystery Data crystal, lodged in the alcove of the mossy arch.

Scarlet hesitantly spoke up. "You sure you want to open that, Terra?"

Terra closed her eyes for a moment, before nodding silently. Without hesitation, Terra walked over to the crystal's hiding spot. Reaching out towards it, she disengaged the metallic casing around the crystal, revealing its sapphire gleam, and touched it to decrypt its contents.

Taking the risk and relying on fate not to be too cruel a mistress to her, Terra went in bare and opened the crystal without any further hesitation. Luck was with her and as it spun around a few times, glinting, it eventually decoded into a chip, and nothing more sinister. Whew.

With the crystal decrypting into non-hostile data, Terra turned to her operator with a serene smile on her face. "... Nothing to worry about, Scarlet," she said, though her shoulders did relax a bit more, indicating that even she had been wary of the possibility of the Mystery Data being a Mimic virus for a third time. She walked back out into the clearing, though she went about two steps before realizing that her leg had some form of greasy substance on it. It seemed that the Bandcoon had gotten some grease from climbing into the tank earlier on. No sense in cleaning it up then and there, though, as she wandered into the middle of the clearing to set up her base to return to.

However, just as she was about to activate the hyperlink, a voice loudly chirped up through Scarlet's speakers, accompanied by a small holographic sprite. "Hey! I'm all healed up! Lemme jack in so I can help her! C'mon!" said Carbide, as she appeared in front of Scarlet's screen. As the operator had seen Terra setting up to leave, she started to speak up, "Um, Carbide--"

"No, Scarlet, wait," interrupted Terra. Moments later, Carbide blinked out of sight from the holographic display, and a beam of light dropped down next to Terra. Inside the beam, the silhouette of a tiny girl started to form. Suddenly, the silhouette ambushed Terra with a flying leap, knocking her down. A cheery laugh echoed throughout the deep Okuden tunnels as Carbide embraced her mentor.

"Hehehe, miss me?" said Carbide, as she nuzzled her face into Terra's chest. Terra's response required no words as she simply smiled, and pulled at the mischievous Support Program's cheeks. "Ow! Ow! Owwww! Quit it!"

"Terra..." muttered Scarlet worriedly, as Carbide dismounted Terra, rubbing her sore cheeks and pretending to sulk. The SP would also discover that she had gotten some of the machine grease on her leg, and let out an appropriate "Eww!" as she attempted to get it off.

"... It's fine. One more, and then we'll head back."

Faced against Terra's warm smile, Scarlet's face creased in worry, but she eventually relented. "Fine, just one. I'm definitely pulling you out after this, though," she said, watching the two girls set off once again in the direction of the vibrant and rampantly growing moss.

"Hahaha, you're too soft-- Ow!" said Luke, earning himself a disgruntled jab in the side from the young woman.

With the brief reunion spurring one last push before taking a break, Terra ended up moving forward on her trail, her ever-enthusiastic SP in tow. As before, when she had been drawing closer, the spread of the strange, natural moss became increasingly pervasive; there were a few more signs of some derelict military instalment – broken pieces of metal plating, or ruined machinery – but it mostly seemed to have been in a dilapidated state for a long while before-hand, and the sudden effusiveness of fresh growth was working hard to return the artificial structures to the earth, to be forgotten.

One thing that Terra herself might pick up on, was that the tunnels and passageways she was moving through were not particularly large; the creature she was following had been massive, and certainly well beyond fitting through even the largest of these spaces. It had most certainly come this way though, somehow, if the vivaciousness of life and growth were any indication.

At one point, the tunnel they were moving through flattened out into a broader cave space, with a low ceiling. the mossy growth filled most of the ground, but stretching along either side of the cave were broad pools of water. They seemed to reach beyond the tunnel as well, with the walls of the cavern ended at eroded, jagged edges a short way above the water's surface, revealing glimpses of stretching lakes further beyond. It was almost as though they might have been crossing an enclosed land bridge, over a deep reservoir. There looked to be a lot of fresh algae growth all around the edges of the water, and on the damp rocks too.

More pressing, in this space, was the small collection of viruses coming the other way through the cave, towards Terra and Carbide. The largest looked a bit like a cattack, except that in the place of treads, the vehicle drove on four over-sized monster-truck wheels that resembled rolled up armadils the tank's drive was actually a metool, who seemed to be operating it contentedly as it chattered to a pair of swordy who followed along on either side. It took the three a moment to notice Terra coming the other way, but they froze as one when they did, and the swordies readied weapons.

Just as battle was, no doubt, about to be joined, a trio of pale, white-fleshed Fishy darted up out of the water on the left to cross the gap. As they did, a pair of long, hand-like tentacles chased them, grabbing hold of one fish and pulling it back down. The other two crossed to the other side in a rush, before two more tentacles erupted from the water. The lead fishy got grabbed and dragged away as well, while the last one halted and turned, then began to dash up the causeway, straight towards Terra instead. In the water, two very large amorphous-looking forms rose from the pools, each sporting a pair of waving tentacle limbs with dexterous, fingered ends. They looked a bit like Jelly, but much larger, and potentially much more deadly in this dark, watery home that was apparently their haunt. They also couldn't seem to decide if the intruders were food, or something that needed simply destroyed. Not good for Terra either way, however.

-=Bridge on a lake in a cave under ground=-
55% Moss [Most of the ground]
30% Sea [The sides of the area lead into deep underground water pools, the the rock side of the cavern reaches almost to the water level on both sides.]
15% Normal [scattered patches]

Reminder: Moss is effectively grass terrain, and provides the same benefits, with the difference that it is damp enough to not provide multiplied damage from fire, though it is still consumed by such.
