Most of the following is just plain common sense. As a courtesy to the makers of the board, and likewise to the players you will be interacting with, Management asks you to read the rules all the way through. They are not only guidelines but a code of ethics. If you get called on violation, the Storytellers will feel no pity for ignorance of our small laws. Most of these were stolen from Aquitas/Veritas, whom we loved so very much. 1. This is a mature community. 17 and older, please. There may be content and themes that involve but are not limited to: violence, sensuality, explicit language and acts of inhuman cruelty. This is the World of Darkness not Happy Sunshine land. If you are underage but capable of accepting what you will see and read, then feel free to contact a Storyteller and we can discuss your application. Please bear in mind that exceptions will be rare, and all decisions are final. 2. That being said, this is also not a community only for slash and smut. Please keep in mind that posts containing excessive swearing, or are written only for the purpose of e-porn will not be tolerated, and may be deleted at Storyteller whim, without warning. All Posts R rated or higher must hold a disclaimer in the title or topic description. In The Etiquette section you will find a series of posts with common terms and words of the Era that you might express yourself without using too many expletives. If you are uncertain about your post, please feel free to ask a Storyteller's opinion. You may also request password protection for your post. 3. Proper English grammar, syntax and spelling are a must. This is a group for mature, detailed stories. If English is your second language, give one of the Storytellers a heads up and we will be a bit more lenient, but otherwise you know the language well. Use it well. No net speak will be tolerated. 4. 3 - 5 characters per person and please make them different factions. If you are going to have more than one character, attempt to create some diversity - don't create all Camarilla Kindred, all Hunters, etc. Exceptions to the character limit will be made if an admin is spoken to and agrees. 5. This is fairly logical, but please no god-moding or power-posting without the other person's permission. It isn't too difficult to send a message, an OOC, or a PM and just ask if you can throw that person down the stairs before doing so! 6. Please ask for the creation of a separate journal for each character! It's just simpler that way for us and for you as well. 7. Be respectful. We can't say it enough. This is not a children's game, please do not act like children. If there is an OOC issue, try to settle it maturely or come to an admin or mod. Don't let it affect the story we are all trying to tell! 8. Plot, plot, plot. This is a game of intrigue. If you want to start a plot, run it by one of the admin and 99 times out of a 100 we will give you the thumbs up. Keep active. Keep the mystery and intrigue going! 9. When we say "Destroy all that which is evil," you say "So that which is good may flourish." 10. There is an imposed Avatar size limit. As with most boards, the height and width of your Avatar should be no more than 100x100. In addition, signatures should be no larger than 500 pixels lengthwise. Anything bigger and the board will be stretched. 11. Secondly, we require your representing face to be a real person. Pick someone who will look like your character: if you pick someone who's 35 in real life to be a 15 year old character, there's something a little wrong with that. 12. When signing up, make sure you do so with a first and last name. Any email type names will be deleted. Also remember to capitalize the first and last names and spaces are a must. You will have 5 days to complete a profile sheet without consulting an admin. Any longer than that, you will be removed from the site and you will have to re-register. Should your application require editing, you will be given an extra five days to make the changes. 13. No double posting, bumping topics and no posting anywhere but in the Coffee House forum until after you are accepted. 14. When posting in character, please write at least two full-length paragraphs. This consists of approximately 5 to 7 lines per paragraph. It's understandable that not everyone is a novelist, however if you cannot do this, for the sake of your partner(s) let the post marinate for a few days before returning to it. If the admin see that your posts are not up to the standards of the other members on the site, you will receive a warning and be coached accordingly. 15. When you are posting, please remember to take turns so that no one character dominates the thread. This board is based off the concept of "turn-based RPing" - if you do not know what this means or need some help, please contact one of the Storytellers. 16. Last, but not least, make at least 1 post a week. If you plan on being absent for an extended period of time, please post a thread in the appropriate forum or at the very least let an admin know. If you are absent without word for more than three weeks, your character will automatically be deleted and freed up for someone else. If you're lucky, you may re-register before someone else takes your place. There will be only one exception to this rule, and that exception knows who he is. |

Omnipotent OOC At times, we all wish people would lay off. At times there are disagreements in philosophy, in personality or private habits. Inspector Morse is certainly not going to appreciate the busybody-ness of Ms Agatha Christi. Or Billybob the stable boy might hate Jean-Phillip for being handed everything on a silver platter while Billybob has to sleep with the goats and eat Gwen's cooking (j/k). This does not automatically mean Jean Phillip will even notice Billybob is a person, much less care what he thinks, or more specifically KNOW about it. Just because a typist can read a character's post....doesn't mean that their character has. This has come up of late, and its one of my biggest pet peeves. Use of mind magics/mental disciplines/gifts/cantrips etc. Must be approved by both typists and at least one manager. Thank you. Death We take death seriously. Unless extraordinary measures come up, once you die... you're dead. You will not be resurrected. You will be ignored or interacted with only by true mediums or other beings who can see into the spirit world. Unless set up beforehand, Parliment will have final decision over death. Language & Content Attempt to keep any cursing down to a reasonable minimum. We all know that a few of the Victorians did swear at times, but that's not an excuse to take things out of hand. Please refer to the pages titled "On Speaking Terms" if you need creative insperation. Also, sex is not allowed in chat. The act may be alluded to but not described. We want characters to be able to explore their personal lives, but there's a point at which it's too much information. This RPG is for players of varying ages, so please keep that in mind. Any posts that involve sex and any extreme adult subjects, please put them in IC Stories and in the title please put "NC-17" Likewise, Rape is a serious topic and should not be taken lightly. Unless approved in storyline, participants of this manipulative ploy will be kicked. Period. Combat Fighting such as duels of honour and actually...all forms of fighting are to be turn-based and described accordingly... after all this is an rpg...we want to drown in the details. Speed (232/323) will be considered invalid. Repeated offenders will be kicked. Races This is not a fantasy rp, but a historical one. People who choose to ignore this will not like the treatment they get here. These people unfortunately make a creature out of thin air that will disturb a storyline topic if there is an opening to do so and if they are not currently in a highly dramatic moment. They will be kicked on principle. Romance, Marriage and Pregnancy People are creatures of emotion and some delicate situations will arise. However, Thornhaven is not a breeding farm and we expect a romantic pairing, and the results of those, to be given careful thought. Any lady who is happily (or unhappily) blessed with child will be expected to remain so for at least 60 irl days. Afterward a period of 90 irl days will pass before such an event can happen again to that same lady. Child Characters Children are precious, but by the standard of the day...should be seen and not heard. Wandering children with no parents will, if they are lucky, be sent to an orphanage. If they are not lucky....sucks to be you. Supernatual Characters All rare creatures/people are required to fill out a character sheet appropriate to their kind, and post it, along with a detailed back history in the Applications section of the message board. Such characters will not be allowed in play until they are approved by Management. Player-Created Stories To create a storyline of your own, if you are not the Mage/Garou Storyteller (Bastien) or the Vampire/Changeling Storyteller you must be: A: An active member of the community B: Post it to the Message Board and have it approved by 2 managers (owners or assistants) Here. ALL PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE in at least 1 Storyteller Run Storyline, as well as any of their own. Player Character Profiles ALL player characters need to post a detailed history of the character Here. Characters who do not post their history will not be allowed in play. Agreement ALL PLAYERS will read, review and accept the following pages before being allowed to play: a. Rules b. Ettiquette c. Speaking Terms d. Peerage (found under Ettiquette) If you do not agree to try to keep these guidelines, then perhaps we aren't the comm for you. Management understands no one is perfect, not even themselves, but excessive ooc/anachronisms distracts and disrupts the mood and the theme. Shop smart. Shop S-mart. |
