What is the Setting? The Victorian Era was a time of wide extremes. Elegant city streets, gas lamps, and in contrast grinding poverty. It was also a time of exploration and invention. With their pioneer spirit wild frontier towns were born across the world. And with their flare and ingenuity the Victorians took with them their values and elegance. Yet for all the glamour and elegance, there's a darker support structure. Raven Hill is a personal storytelling game. The World of Darkness is a place of extremes ~monolithic, majestic and altogether, twisted. The governments are corrupt, the culture is bankrupt, and the decadant mortals revel in the flames of the final days. It is a world where the forces of evil and entropy are even more powerful than they are in our own world. In this world, vampires exist, and they have directed and influenced the course of mortal affairs throughout history. It is a warning of what we may become and a shadow of the sickness that infects us now. It is a world of problems much like our own, but one where there are faces and names to lay the blame upon. The Church is stronger because people always turn to the church in times of crisis, and enough people have been touched by the Kindred to make a difference. The institutions which they control tend to be even more conservative and resistant to change than those we know now. Architecture has a menacing flavour to it; from the ivy wrapped mausoleums to the gargoyle perches of the vaunted sky-scrapers. Ultimately, it is the player who will decide how the game ends, directing the fate of Raven Hill through their action...and inaction. Crisis and Leviathan: What can you expect in Raven Hill Here you will find a Court of Kings, yet amidst the gardens and sumptuous facade, the lush vineyards and darkened windows there is a sense that not everything is as you would see it. Here you will find all the splendor of Victorian society, the intrigue, the majesty and the timeless struggle between duty and pleasure. Scandal, mischief, the classes in conflict... Nonetheless, social graces, a dazzling coiffure or a smart uniform can frequently accomplish more in Society than a spell or a gadget, and your rapier wit can do more damage than your blade..... Here you will find the Powerful and oft questionable Devereaux family, the gossip and the truth... Here you will find the vicious machinations of the Cainnites' Elysium, from the lowest Anarch to the supposed Puppet Prince... Here you will find wide-eyed and valient souled Awakened desperately trying to aid the jaded country to Ascension... Here you will find fabulous and not so privliged mortals living out there dramas between the shadows, unaware of the Dark World that surrounds them... If you can imagine it, you can become it... In Raven's Hill. There are worse things than death that stalk the night...just beyond the beautiful doors.... |
