Exactly my thoughts, though I assume what they really mean is what we're seeing is a 30-year old black hole, at least the images from when it was new

It's really interesting how most of the stuff you can see from space probably collapsed or was destroyed long ago and we'll probably not be around long enough to know it

So yeah my first edited instinct was right. 50 million light years means it'd take that light 50,000,000 years to reach us. Not following how we can see it at all. Somebody who is still capable of thinking clear this up. Thanks.
