I wonder why people say this is great footage. Cage goes down, cage goes up, people come out, yay. The concept might be great but the footage is average at best. Mostly because it's a fucking mine shaft.
It's great footage because it's so raw and it's real. It's footage of something that's never happened before. You act like we're watching a movie. Plus whenever they see their family it's always a great moment, since there were definitely times when all parties involved thought they would never see each other again.
Again the concept, not the actual footage. Using the movie analogy: if this was in a movie the movie would be crap, if this was more like a (Hollywood) movie the would be more drama and close escapes. The footage isn't amazing, it's the concept. You're overestimating one aspect because of the other.

Edit: I know you're going to say that concept and footage are linked, but I don't go for that.

Now what TW said does sound plausible. Those people hit a child's jackpot.

It's not a "concept" for television, though. It's filming reality, and the footage is technically great as well, because they gave a view of everything. It's the news, man. You can't ask for the news to have car chases and shootouts.

I'm watching from time to time. The instant I heard they got trapped, I figured they were done. Them surviving is amazing tom e.

Now, we wait for the inevitable shit Hollywood dramatization of this.

It doesn't have to be shit, but it probably will be. Apparently the movie about that guy who cut his arm off get out from under a boulder (balls of titanium imo) is like amazing. But I'm sure it's pretty douchey too.

I also find this dull. What we need is a villan from the silent film era with giant cable cutters.

It IS basically a 'concept' for TV, though. The fact they are all getting rescued is fantastic, but I'm surprised the survivors aren't climbing out in sponsored T-shirts. You can damn well bet there will be 33 books about this, and at least one major motion picture.

Exactly. The, footage is the same as any rescue, emotions are always sky high and news reporters try to get the best shots. Now there's one shot for most of the media, but it means more to you because you know the background.

You guys are making me mad so I'm not going to continue that part of this discussion. All I'm going to say is that the last one got out okay.

I thought it was an impressive tale of raw human emotion, courage and hope. Pretty sure most major disasters don't have every person involved survive the ordeal undamaged.

I tell ya, things would have been a lot easier for them if they had been stockpiling sand.
