If we're talking annotations, they've become a part of my life. Otherwise, no.

I was raised to respect books.. my mom would always say "Never put your foot on a book! It's like you're saying knowledge is bad!" So I kind of take writing in them as an extension to that.. must.. keep.. them.. pure..
Except for workbooks of course. Since they're made for you to write in..

I find I'm not getting the full use out of a text book unless I'm writing in the margins and tearing out the more important pages to staple them into my notebook.

kilroy, I've just never heard of anybody doing that. It just sounds so intense.

Ryu, these are the first three pages of one of 15 books I had to annotate for Lit alone. How does this make you feel?

Oh yea I correct them because.. my textbooks usually have math-ish stuff so if I don't correct it, it ends up being a big problem if I forget that it's wrong.. xPP

It makes me feel horrible, because it looks like 99% of the stuff is better kept in your head. They make you do that as an assignment..?

"Annotating is critical to writing higher level essays", and whatnot. I pay about as much attention to detail when reading normally as I do when annotating, so it's something I do for the grade.

I can see how it would honestly hep, though. When writing essays on analysis of literature, with specific reference to literary devices and styles, annotating really helps. I annotated the hell out of a few of my books, and kicked ass on the exams involving them ^>_>^

If I had had a choice regarding my major I would have probably picked Comparative Literature.
