Happy 5 Space Cowboy
|
We’ve all experienced it at some point in our life, perhaps during a time of peril, a time of mediocrity, or a time of security. That feeling that you’ve been somewhere before, or you’ve met this person before, or maybe you have even experienced something before. It came to be known as Dejavu over the years but is it possible that there is more to this feeling than originally reflected upon? What if I were to tell you that Dejavu is real, those events, those people, and even those feelings… all of it is real. Don’t try to move. Your body is retrained. All of your senses are cut off. This voice you hear is inside of your head. We have to be sure you will cooperate before we can release you. No… I shouldn’t say release. I should say employ. Now then I was told to explain the situation to you before you start asking a ton of stupid questions. Let’s see… where to start… I’ll just be blunt. Your entire world, your family, your friends, your memories, is all an illusion. No, I shouldn’t say that. Damn I’m really bad at this. It’s my first time training a new recruit so go easy on me okay? What’s that? Yeah… I AM going to tell him, just shut up and let me work. Yeah go cry to him, that’s all you’re good for. What do you mean there’s no mute? It’s okay; I didn’t say anything he shouldn’t know. Shut the hell up! I AM training him, go away and let me work! Sorry about that, looks like I gotta wrap this up. Basically kid, there are these guys goin’ around and removing people from existence. I mean it’s as if they never existed before, we’re not sure how they do it, or even why, but what we do know is we don’t want ANY of our memories fucked with. I don’t care how miniscule the memory is, they’re what make me who I am and I’m not about to start being somebody else just because some jackass with a device or something wants to fuck with me. Here, get up. I don’t have time to use this damn machine and explain the situation to you, they’re shipping me off in an hour to what we think might be their HQ. We’ve got all our best men in on this mission so there’s no fucking way we can lose! Open your eyes. You awaken to a strange and burley man standing over you. His hair is white but his body looks no older than thirty. He is a frightening sight to behold. His body towers over yours and he holds himself with confidence. The way his muscles look could easily be considered abnormal or unique and you cannot help but question if it is even possible for a man like this to exist. A man comes up and approaches him. He salutes and whispers something into his ear. “Captain Skye, no word yet from her, you know the orders, if there’s five minutes or more of Radio silence then we are to pack everything up and relocate to Avalon.” The man moved towards a nearby table and started unhooking computers which were now visible due to you being released. Scanning around the room you located many strange devices that you had never seen before. Some type of gun with a blue gel in it or something, a stack of papers labeled [Project Galahad] which was quickly shuffled into a black bag by the intruder, and various other artifacts that were commonly placed in an office. “Hey kid, stop daydreaming and try standing, we’ve got to get you mobile before the Null’s come here. They’ll erase you from existence for sure, and we can’t let that happen.” After stumbling around awkwardly for a few minutes you seem to have regained your sense of balance. Without missing a beat, Skye and the man from before grab you and force you out of the abandoned laboratory. “Basically kid, there are these bad guys called the Null, they’re the guys that erase people from existence, they make them Null. When they do this there is nothing left, whoever knew the person immediately forgets everything about them, any mark they’ve made on the world is instantly shunted to somebody else, and their friends and family have no idea that this person was ever born. That’s their plan anyway, but like all plans, it’s got some holes in it. Somehow we can still remember these people even after they are nullified. Nobody knows why though. But that’s not the important part. The important part is that we’re the only ones who can stop them from spreading the nullification worldwide. You’re special though; there’s never been anybody like you. You can remember everything that was nullified. We can only remember bits and pieces. Over time these bits and pieces deteriorate and they are nullified in our mind as well.” Skye opened up a case and injected you with a syringe. “This is a tracker, we all have one. It is dependent on your pulse. As long as you are alive, you will show up green on our scanners, but once you die… you get red. It’s never easy monitoring an assault and seeing your entire squad turn red. It happens to the best of us kid, but we’re all willing to die to bring these guys to justice.” Several hours pass before Skye speaks again. He looked as though he were lost in thought at the sight of the unsuspecting city. Everything appeared normal. The highways were littered with cars, people honked and screamed profanities at one another, it was as if all of this was a dream… “Get down Kid! They’re here!” Skye shouted as the unnamed man was shot by something unseen. He began to spasm, then fall to the floor screaming uncontrollably. “He’s gone, they’re here and we gotta get going before they find you. If anything happens to me don’t worry. Just use this tracker and find somebody. They’ll know what to do.” Skye handed you some strange GPS device and pushed you down into a ditch. “I really hate to be the cliché’ action hero kid, but if my death means that you live, then there’s no helping it. Just promise me one thing… Don’t forget me kid!” And with that Syke vanished from sight. You have no idea how long you were in that hole, it could have been hours or it could have been days but somehow you got the feeling that Skye wasn’t coming back and that now would be a good time to find somebody using the tracker. With the tracker in hand, you stop and hesitate before turning it on. Once this machine is turned on, your life will never be the same. You can never go back to being the kid who everybody knew and loved. He is dead. Your old life is no more and your friends will only slow you down. Taking a deep breath you flip up the screen and turn the machine on. A screen greets you and asks you for your name. You think for a while before typing in S-K-Y-E. The screen flashes and beeps welcome signs at you. The messages box on the main screen is empty and after several minutes you figure out how to turn on the GPS locator. The screen displays a map of the entire world and it appears as if there is somebody not too far from you who can help. Relieved, you begin to close the device but are stopped dead in your tracks when you hear a faint siren. Opening back up the screen shows a giant warning sign and the green dot you so hopefully clung to is now a blood red symbol of death. Several more beeps go off; a few more green dots turn red. Suddenly the machine starts going berserk, hundreds and hundreds of popup windows block the view of the map but you can once again witness the map once you remove them all. You reload the page in disbelief, there’s no way this is true. Again you reload the page but the map stays the same. Every single green dot on the map is now a blood red hue. All but one. Yours. As I said on SBA, I'm not sure where I want to go with this. Even if I do turn it into a forum related game, don't expect it to be up until classes are over (2 weeks). |
