I know it's AMD so it should be compatible with the motherboard
NO BAD. VERY BAD

CHECK SHIT OUT FIRST. CHECK YOUR PROCESSOR MODEL, ITS SOCKET, THEN CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT MEETS THE POWER REQUIREMENTS ON THE MOBO AND THE SOCKET.

geez.

Yeah, the problem is my old one is 200 miles away and I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't be able to figure it out for me (unless the box for it is still around, which I have no idea where it would be if it is).

Even the box wouldn't help much. You need to tear apart that shit.

This would be a lot easier if I didn't have to update the BIOS to install an X6. I mean really, if it happens that the CPU I have at home isn't compatible wouldn't I need another CPU to use before I could even install the X6?

I didn't know that.

Keep in mind I'm just the small voice in the corner in this topic.

I know. It's just that the X6 is so new it seems that all the motherboards I look up aren't immediately compatible. I won't hate my life if I end up having to just get an X4, but whatever.

If that's the case, get the Phenom II X4 965. You can upgrade when you need to since AMD doesn't change sockets every 5 minutes like Intel. Seriously though, I got the 940 and I don't even come close to throwing it under heavy load, even with the best games out there (ME2 is one that comes to mind)

Do you recommend a thermal compound or any such thing? I currently don't have one in my cart.

Well here's the changes I've made:
HD
Motherboard
Case
Power supply

The case/supply combo deal is WAY cheaper than the case/supply was before, and the PS is 600W compared to the old one's 500.

...I'll just post everything else here too to have it all together.
Processor
Cooling
RAM
Graphics card
Wireless card
DVD drive
Monitor
Speakers
Keyboard

This set is over $50 cheaper than the original was, too.

Hmm...actually I've found at least one mobo that's compatible with the X6 out of the box so I might just go with that. Plus I think I'm gonna go with a regular fan/heatsink cooling unit because it's less complicated and I'm less likely to mess it up.

Ok here's the total shopping cart I have planned out now. The wishlist is about 30 bucks more expensive just because it doesn't take combos into account.

Questions? Thoughts? Concerns?

I'm probably gonna just order this in the next couple days...as soon as the hard drive's available again at least. Might just order all the other stuff and then get the HD when it's available (assuming that'll be sometime this week), cause who knows if any of the other stuff will randomly decide to go out of stock?

The RAM you chose isn't compatible with that mobo. You should also go for a full tower case, but it's fine.

As for the RAM, you need DDR3 1066, DDR3 1333, or DDR3 1866

Is the main advantage for the full tower case airflow or is there something else that I don't know about?

I mean obviously it's bigger so there's more space but I mean besides that.

Airflow, more space, more drive bays (big advantage), overall better to work with on the inside. Also, that brick you got for a video card may not fit in a mid tower.

I'd actually like to find a card that's less hueg (considering it was mentioned in the first review now that I look at it). Are there smaller sizes of the same card?
