Where people are constantly having to apologize for hurting someones feelings? Or do you people in other countries have your own Reverend Al, Jesse Jackson, Catholic Defamation League, racial special interest groups, and everything else that falls in line with them?

Everyone in the US should start apologizing as soon as we wake up. "I'm so sorry for anything i might say as the day goes on. and im sorry for saying daigo." i can't stand how we pander to anyone and everyone that gets a hair up their ass. the cheerleader in trouble for dressing as lil' wayne for halloween, the sports commentator that said something about a latino going to eat a taco tying into a promotion for taco bell, it's killing me. I can't believe this country is full of bleeding heart liberal cuntrags.

One the papers wrote about us (=the Netherlands) turning in the USA now that we have quite a few people hating stuff for no real reason.

But apologizing doesn't happen as often here. Sometimes people apologize while making an inappropriate comment, but we still allow politicians to say most things they want.

I fucking hate that shit. If it were me, I'd punch someone in the face before apologizing about anything I ever said to anyone. Don't get me wrong, I'm liberal as hell, but I can't take this "taking a joke too far" shit.

A swedish comedian said that his favourite group of people to make fun of are dyslectics, because they don't like the idea of writing a complaint..

But yeah, people are often too easily offended here in sweden as well.. Or at least in the public domain, on a personal level people tend to deal with it a lot better..

Public domain / media coverage / etc. is strictly what I'm talking about here.

Not whether or not your neighbors frown when you yell nigger at them.

Being apologetic in the Netherlands means you decide not to speak ill of the Jews after just having offended the Muslims. I don't think this has anything to do with being liberal though, Zersch. The Netherlands practically invented being liberal, but comparing someone to Hitler is almost as natural as shaking hands. From what limited knowledge I have, I think it's more of a 'saving face' problem than anything else.

On a side note, when I watch Fox news I often think we're the ones with the apology-syndrome.

My bad.. The "Everyone in the US should start apologizing as soon as we wake up." made me think you included the personal level as well..

Perhaps I'm getting my leanings mixed up.

All Zersches should be deported to their country of origin! Young Zerschlings who commit crimes should be shot! The teachings of Zersch are evil and its followers intend to destroy our society!

After reviewing the social liberalism wikipedia page, I'm pretty sure that's what I was looking for. They're so interested in preserving tolerance that they go after anyone that makes a slip up and winds up being flanked by the media like a heat seeking fucking missile. I'm not defending any legitimate hate groups, just people that catch shit / get fired for calling someone a fag and some fag group getting their panties in a bunch and complaining that their rights are being violated because of it.

But yeah, Alch, the media is the real problem here. They make HUGE deals out of total fucking non-stories.

I have this urge to march on Washington now.

Then get up on a podium and just start a checklist of "wrong" things to say.

"PACO ATE A TACO. SHANAYNAY ATE A WATERMELON. MR. GREENBURG IS AN ACCOUNTANT. Now tell me citizens of the United States. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?"

I think that's where the big problem is, namely that tolerance works in two ways. It's one thing to wish to be treated fairly, but it's another thing to use 'violence' like this. As with all conflicts, there are at least two parties involved into this -- both which seem to have set their priorities wrongly.

First, the social interest groups. If you're going to focus on minor details, you're forgetting the essence of your interest group; namely global acceptance by society. Rather than trying to get 'compensated' for that minor slip of the tongue, social interest groups should focus themselves on society as a whole and present themselves using positive and constructive methods.

Last, it's the organization backing up the offender. Whilst it is easy to fire someone and make him take all the blame, you're not teaching your staff or anyone else related to the problem anything. Organizations are better off trying to form the 'social lubricant' in possible non-accidental conflicts meaning they should listen to the complaints of the social interest group and actually do something with it.

Everybody seems to have an opinion today, but instead of doing something constructive with it people seem to be more interested in shouting out their opinion whenever they can. Practically invariant of religion or political affiliation.

I really didn't think this happened in other countries. I'm really depressed to know that there's a reverend Al in every country.

Zerch, here it's the contrary.

Brazilian politicians are so fucking careless, one of then screamed once this year: "I don't care about the public opinion!"

Of course, we have here the interest groups, but they don't have so much influence.
If something they say really shows like a electoral harm, we have a waek fake apologize, but it is rare.

The main media here is always against the government, but they don't care.

lets be clear on one thing, guys like Reverend Al don't actually give two shits and a fuck about the causes they attach themselves to, Rev Al only cares about keeping his troll hair in the Spotlight.

Imus? really? that was enough to get him thrown off the air?

Michael Richards? heckled in a comedy club (which as far as i'm concerned, the guy in the audience had it coming) and it was worth ruining his career over?

i certainly don't believe in white guilt. even in normal conversation i have to preface a number of my opinions on say, illegal immigrants with "i know this sounds racist, but..." its as if we white folk aren't allowed to have opinions because of what our great-great grandfathers did.
