If you love or want turn based rpgs. The best I can possibly think of, are:not including cult classics(crono) Personna 3 Personna 4 Dragon Quest 8 Skies of Arcadia(it's on gamecube, but It's my all time favourite rpg. Atelier Iris series, (including ar tonelico, and mana khemia) however, these arn't really tradional style. They kind of have an atb gauge. grandia series(see above^^^) |

Skies of Arcadia was the best damn game on the Gamecube, even though it was a direct Dreamcast port. <3 |

I think he's just upset because all the damned RPGs on the 360 like to experiment until their battle system is some convoluted mess of crap. And God, I love me some MegaTen. Unless you're overleveled, spamming attack doesn't really work. Well, unless you're playing Devil Summoner. But its battle system was messed up to begin with. |

for the most part. I do actually ENJOY the turn based combat of older rpgs though. It would just be nice if even just one series would use it nowadays.

Whichever one you can still find, really. Well, out of the ones on PS2, anyway. |

The older ones kinda suck, in my opinion. I hate first-person RPGs with a passion. Especially the way the old SMTs work. |

so after all of my bullshit ranting here I downloaded a demo of Valkyria Chronicles and liked it. I think because it is all gun combat (at least to this point) its a bit simpler to get into. Story seems decent to this point as well. Maybe this will be the gateway game I need to get into all these other games. Or perhaps this will be the only one I will ever like. I have to go to work now or I would explain the battle system in more detail because it is different from anything else I have played. If it looks like anyone gives a shit I'll explain when I get home.

I prefer turn-based RPGs myself. I have been playing them for as long as I can remember. I think the most noted turn-based RPG is, of course, Pokemon. I also like the turn-based RPGs with a mix to them, like Chrono Trigger and the active battle system, Baten Kaitos with the card-based system, Paper Mario...though that really wasn't unique...but awesome. If you're looking for turn-based RPGs, look at the handhelds as it will be unlikely that any turn-based RPGs make it to the next-gen consoles because it's not what the masses are looking for. Even then, look towards the classic consoles. There are many of them from the fourth gen worth playing. |

Baten Kaitos' battle system was interesting but far from fair. I don't mind fighting bosses who have insane stats, but if my attacks are random it's no fun. |

Baten Kaitos's battle system, to be honest, kinda pissed me off. But the plot twist made up for it so everything was fine <3 |
