I'm a little late at reporting this incident, but I'm sure a few of you will appreciate it or simply get a healthy "lol" at my expense.

As we all know, Sony released a fancy new 80 gig PS3 bundle which included a Duel Shock controller and Metal Gear Solid 4.

I was one of the tards who actually stood in line for this thing at Wal-Mart of all wretched places. Fun fact: Wal-Mart received 4 units and the line consited of 4 people. I purchased the system, brought it home, and decided not to bother opening it that night because the woman required my attentions and I had all day in the morning. The morning came, the woman went to work, and I finally took my new baby out of the box and connected it to my TV.

Oh it was glorious! There is nothing quite like the smell and taste of a shiny new console. I went through the usual set up process. Time and date, new profile, wireless connection, etc. As soon as all that was finished, I started the system update. 10 minutes later my PS3 was ready for action. Or so I thought. I decided to sign up for Playstaion Network before plunging the rest of my day into MGS4. I went to the icon and clicked (or whatever you would call selecting said icon with the controller).

It apeared to be loading whatever it needed to load, but as time dragged on I could tell that something was wrong. I saw the little progress icon in the upper corner was still spinning around or whatever the hell it was supposed to do, so I wasn't too stressed, but then it suddenly stopped. I knew it! The damn thing became completely unresponsive. I pushed a few buttons on my controller, knowing damn well that it wasn't going to help. I tried holding the power button for over 10 secons as suggested by the troubleshooting guide. It didn't even want to re-start. Finally, giving up on everything else, I flipped the switch on the back. This was the last time I saw my PS3's menu.

As soon as I started it up again, I could tell something was wrong by the unhealthy clicking noise being made by the system's hard drive. There it was. The error screen officially declairing the demise of my PS3. Not 20 minutes after I took it out of the box. -_-

I tried restarting it again knowing damn well that it didn't matter. I was already dialing Sony's tech support number when the error popped up again. I receiving trouble shooting assistance by a sexy robot voice on the phone, but none of the options applied to me. System plugged in? Check. TV turned on? Check. System not in the bath tub? Double check. "Well then it should be working just fine" says the robot voice. "But if you really want, you can talk to an actual person who will run you through the same annoying proccess". I went for that option, but after a moment I was put on the line with another robot voice. Still sexy, but not nearly as helpful. She said "If you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again".

I threw the cheap phone across the room and pouted my way to the internet. They can't hide behind their sexy automated voices when I start shooting e-mails at them. I type up a detailed report of what I'm sure god is finding hillarious. I get an automated reply telling me to wait 72 hours for a response. Fuck. I have one more option. It's risky, but when I have MGS4 in one hand and a disfunctional PS3 in the other, I'm more than willing to seek the help of the most despised beings on Earth. The Sony message board community.

What a mistake that turned out to be. Mere seconds after I told my story and begged for help and advice, my innocent topic was flooded with giant red text accusing me of being a troll. I was cursed, spat at, and marked for moderation. I tried to defend my innocence, but they couldn't wrap their minds around the idea that a Sony product could fail so soon after being removed from the box. I mean... It should at least get past the 90 day warranty before it burns your house down, right? Fortunately, my desperate cries fell on a couple open minds who have had or heard of situations such as mine. They tried to help, but even their sagelike advice couldn't save my officially bricked PS3 from being sent back to Wal-Mart... Oh wait... Sony only sent Wal-Mart 4 of them. And I witnessed the 3 others being sold to people who have better luck than I do.

At this time, I'm waiting for wal-mart to restock so that I can exchange it for a new one. Fortunately, my buddy has a functional PS3 that he is letting me use to fill my MGS needs. Hopefully my presence doesn't cause it to explode or cause a rip in the space time continuum, destroying us all.

TL;DR version:

Bought PS3. Opened it. It froze. I restarted it. It broke. Called Sony. They suck. Emailed Sony. They suck. Went to Sony message boards. Got flamed by people who suck. God hates me. He sucks.

That is all.

edit: Holy shit! I typed a lot... I don't blame you if you avoid reading it. It's mostly a dramatic rant anyway.

hehe, poor Adfest.

The Sony robot voice is much better than Microsoft Max though.

Max can go die.

The good thing about Wal-Mart is that as long as you have your receipt they will give you a full refund, "no questions asked." If you don't have the receipt they can only give you either credit in the form of a gift card or you can exchange the item, which doesn't seem feasible.

Take it in asap and get your money back. Don't even bother trying to get it repaired. Sucks that you had to go through all that. We all have been driven nearly mad by a system at one point or another. Hopefully everything works out for you.

Nope, all my consoles work. Some random disc read errors on my GC/360 don't really bother me.

Nintendo's robot makes me sad, he doesn't have anyone to talk to.
