I also didn't remember seeing any real sign of intelligence from the vampires other than when they were smashing the flood lights he set up near the end, so I wasn't sure if they were supposed to be seen as more intelligent in the book than they were presented in the movie. Also, if anyone has read the book, how does it end compared to how the movie ends?

*Book Spoilers*

In the book, they're definitely intelligent; vampire women dance in front of Neville to get him to come out, they talk, and they form a God damned Mafia to kill the "lesser intelligent" Vampires.

And in the book, Neville takes in a vampire girl that looks normal because she takes pills and stuff. She betrays him in the end and they kill him to begin a "new society." The thing is he is "Legend" because he stands at the window overlooking the crowd before he dies and they are afraid of him.

No the entire point was that his character died because he thought it was his job to save the world right there. He did the right thing but his vision was clouded, it was only right that he died there.

That sounds like it would have definitely made for a better movie. I didn't like that puppy had to die but I did like that Neville commited suicide by fisting a grenade. Though the ending of the book sounds better.

Well, if he set the trap up, why was he surprised by it, and asking how it got there?

Basically what MLWW said after your post... I mean, he hadn't completely lost it at that point but he was still crazy enough to make me consider him falling into a trap he forgot he had set just because of the presence of "Fred" an alternative solution to the vampires actually rigging up the trap themselves.

Well, the movie should've shown him setting it up. Plus, you never see him using a mannequin as bait in the movie, why would he just lose it and set one up. It's not like he snuck out at night and did it while sleepwalking.

Plus, the one vampire was waiting there with his dogs. Sounds like a trap set for a person. I mean, I think that vampire mimicked his trap, because all throughout the movie the vampires are showing human like behavior.

Also, never read the book, but it sounds about 1000 times better than the movie.

Which can also explain the mannequin.

However, I can see myself slowly going crazy if I am in a city with those monsters like that......

But wait a minute, there was a monster also there? I only saw 3 dogs. no vampires.....

Well it was obvious that the vampire put Fred there because like you said he was waiting there in the rubble of a building with the two hell hounds. What I was wondering was who set the actual mechanism up for the trap. Since I over-looked whatever signs of intelligence they showed in the movie, I guess it's completely plausible that they were smart enough to recreate one of his traps and not just lure him into one of his own.

I've seen part of this movie, the last half of it I think. Didn't really pay attention to it, but I think I have seen this scene. There's a mannequin standing there, right? And in some earlier scene, he is talking to some mannequin in a book store, if I am not mistaken?

If that's correct, maybe it indicates being so lonely is slowly turning him into a madman, being incapable of telling his own set-up mannequins from real people making him walk into the trap he set himself. No idea if it is true since I only watched a bit of it, but that is what makes sense to me.

I pretty much assumed the monsters set the trap based on the one they had seen him set before. also, I am sure the book is better but I didn't think the movie was that bad. just because it leaves something to think about and something to the imagination doesn't make it bad. if it had spoon-fed you everything you would have bitched that it was too long or boring. >_>

I don't believe anyone ever said the movie sucked because of anything it left to the imagination. Zess just flat out said it sucked. Other than this instance where I personally questioned the trap, the movie left pretty much zip up in the air. Don't assume just because a question is being asked I'm flustered and disappointed with the movie while doing so.

I thought the movie was excellent until the dog died. I mean, as far as I know, Will Smith did an incredible job of showing what it'd be like being the last man on Earth. The movie's atmosphere showed just how lonely it would be. Then the dog died, and it turned into an action fest with some characters that were forced in. The movie should have ended without us knowing what happened to the cure.

Fred did it!

Actually, when I saw the movie, I assumed that he did it. Due to the fact that the movie made it semi-clear that he was losing his mind to an extent, losing focus. He set the trap, forgot about it, and in his slightly confused state, set it off himself.

My opinion on the movie: It was a decent movie. Nothing extraorinary though, as the plot's been done in movies and books since the middle of last century. It was well done though, I mean, it IS Will Smith.

Actually it left a lot in the air. Gas? Food (he raided houses, but for, what was it, seven years?)? Ammo? Could a biologist really set up those lights outside his house? And why does a biologist know how to shoot a gun so well?

Shit, WHY THE HELL IS WILL SMITH A FUCKING BIOLOGIST?

I was just talking about the plot itself, not the believability of the situation or anything. He was a lieutenant colonel, not a biologist according to IMDb. Some other bitch actually made the virus..Looking at the Wiki I think it was just three years in between. I might be misreading though. Fuck Will Smith.

Sorry, that was directed at Zess. Guess I should have mentioned that >_>
