Grey rubbed her head a little as she wandered into the kitchenette of her corridor, turning the cooker on as she got out a frying pan, and a fresh fillet steak out of the fridge. The idea of frying steak even for a second made her want to retch slightly more than usual as the moon was getting closer to being full, but she expected taking raw meat back into her room would grab more attention than lightly frying it and eating it in the kitchen, especially as she had been entertainment enough that week with the little ‘scene’ the other day. Watching the pan warm, she yawned a little, filling one of her glasses with water. They were actually plastic, as it was easier as she was less likely to break them, then have to replace them. With her hazy identification, it had been hard enough to get a student loan as it was. Dropping a splash of oil in the nicely hot pan, Grey cracked the packaging of the steak open and tossed it in, before remembering she should really use some sort of kitchen implement rather than using her fingers. It might weird someone out who came in and that really irritated her. Why the hell did she come here? Really? Well. If she stuck it out, might make her pack happy…They might be…fuzzies, but they were her pack. She missed them and their company. |

Mark regretted walking for the kitchenette the second he could smell that someone was cooking in there. Steak by the smell of it. He wrinkled is nose, wondering what the appeal was. Though he supposed others didn't really risk the chance of knowing how their meat died when they're taking a bite out of it. That hadn't happened as Mark had given up meat before that sort of thing started but he definitely wouldn't run the risk now. He was hungry though and he was damned if he was going to be run out of the common kitchen by whatever savage carnivore lurked there. He stepped in and glanced first at the other occupant as he stepped over to the pantry. He vaguely recalled seeing her around, probably the halls or the library. Well, actually on second thought judging by the look of her probably while he was out. "Hello." He turned back to the food selection. Not a good deal to choose from but there was some chickpeas and a few stray bits of things to throw into a curry. That would do nicely. He made a bit of a face as he approached the steak as he came over to the stove. No, never wound understand the appeal. |

Grey flipped the still bloody steak on to a plate, casting a look at the boy who had just smarmed in. Lovely. Company. Oh that meant she needed cutlery…Fishing some out of the little box like cupboard that she had to call her own, she took a seat at the table. “Hello,” she replied, eventually. He seemed less than impressed at the sight of her steak, to the point of wrinkling his little nose up at the smells, and not for the same reason she was trying not to wrinkle her own. He was probably the damn reason there was so little space in the cupboards. Fussy little brat didn’t realise he wouldn’t like the canteen cooking so sadly had to start fending for himself… Giving the steak an aggressive slice, she chewed a piece thoughtfully, getting up to get a bread roll that she mainly kept around for pretence, to soak the blood up with to not waste it. |

That...that was the rarest steak Mark had ever seen anyone eat outside of steak tartare. Mark tried to not look too terribly horrified, he really did. He rather failed at it though. That was disgusting. It was like she had just heated up the meat enough to make it seem like it had been alive more recently than it had and to stir the...juices. Just thinking of it made Mark lose most of his appetite. He didn't dare look at it directly. He could hear her chop it too and hoped he was imagining it when it sounded to him the slicing was almost vengeful. The last thing he really wanted to think about was that there was a slightly off girl behind him with a taste for animal flesh and blood who knew her way around a knife with force. Mark tried to focus on the chickpeas but he couldn't help but listen to the noises and was really quite relieved when she got up to get some bread. Oh this food wasn't going to cook fast enough. He watched it impatiently but found that curiosity was too much. He looked back up at the room's other occupant while she wasn't busy eating steak that for all intents and purposes might as well still be attached to the cow. "Don't believe I've caught your name yet. I'm Mark." He just hoped that she didn't talk while she was chewing or something like that. He was sure he couldn't stand that at all. |

Looking up, a small drop of blood ran down her chin and she deliberately hesitated in wiping it away. “Grey,” she replied after swallowing her mouthful. He looked like he was about to piss himself. “I don’t believe I’ve actually seen you, let alone caught your name…” she added, trying to be sort of sociable. “Enjoying your…plantlife?” Hell, she was on something of a roll today with the talking thing. At least her face had healed enough for her to use makeup to cover it, but the smell made her nose twitch slightly. Damn humans loved their strong ‘nice’ smells… Unable to help herself, she licked at the drop of blood that was still on her hand. It was all she could do to stop herself from going at the plate. All the pooling juices were starting to make her feel a little glassy eyed. Ginger would have field day if he saw her. He was probably somewhere outside, waiting with a hunting rifle loaded with darts…She took another bite of steak to distract herself and inspected her long nails. She still needed to trim those… |

She was dripping. That was all that Mark could think about for a minute. There was blood literally dripping off of her. Okay, so it wasn't exactly a river but there was Blood. Dripping. Mark was sure he had gone pale and was definitely staring at her and the blood. Absolutely disgusting but it was somewhat hypnotic. Mark supposed that he was in some form of shock because he couldn't quite believe he was seeing it. "Oh...will be soon." Mark realized after a moment that she had actually asked him something and it wasn't if he would like a drink of her steak. Though judging by how she was going at things she wasn't exactly the type to volunteer to share. That offered Mark some small bit of relief. At least he wouldn't be asked to partake in the slightly barbaric dinner theater he was currently not exactly enjoying. When she actually licked blood off of her hand Mark dropped the spoon he had been using and swore under his breath at that. Picking it up carefully he pretended that he hadn't been staring at her an her and finding her table manners wanting. Well, pretending he hadn't been mainly for the sake that he didn't want to think about it rather than pretending as to not offend her. |

“I would like to point out that it is rather rude to stare. So I’d appreciate if you stopped,” Grey put in, rather bluntly as he fussed around, gawping at her rather oddly. It was also rather rude to ignore a persons questions, but really, she didn’t want any response from him, as with the impression he gave, it would be far from incredibly interesting. The pan of…things, he was creating smelt like a roadside verge after a drunkard on their way home had vomited into it. It made her appreciate her steak, cooked as it was. The blood was certainly disconcerting him, so while he was busy with his spoon, she dabbed a bit of bread in quickly, taking a bite out of the bloodsoaked end. She could have done without the bread, but she could hardly eat it with a spoon. |

"I'm sorry, it's not every day you get the chance to see a spectacle such as this." Mark really did hate it when he got called out on being rude. He knew he was a good deal of the time so it really wasn't all that necessary to remind him. And in any case he was certain that his rudeness was in no way comparable to her deplorable eating habits. "It's a bit on the rare side, isn't it?" He pulled a bowl down and started to dish his food up, leaning against the counter to better keep her in his sites while eating but still avoiding sitting with her. He wasn't sure if he could manage to keep things down if he were much closer. The last thing Mark wanted was to be close enough to smell the food any more than he could. Thank God his own food was doing a good job masking the smell of steak and blood. Yes, it was just best to keep his eyes on his own food and pretend she wasn't eating what might be the most horrifying thing Mark had ever seen anyone have on a plate without it being featured on some sort of travel show. |

“A spectacle?” Oh that was pretty damn insulting. “What. Don’t people eat where you come from? And yes it is on the rare side, but perfectly acceptable in terms of eating, as it would be quite respected amongst any dishes at the best restaurant in the city.” He was deliberately not sitting down as well. Feeling rather annoyed by that, Grey began to pick at her own plate. Sure, she didn’t like the look or smell of what he’d created, but she wouldn’t stop him from sitting down. This place was just unfriendly, despite her hopes for connecting. So far any sort of friendships she’d almost started on had gone to shit. Well. Friendship. That thought rolling round in her head depressed her more than anything, so to try and think round it, she inspected this boy carefully. He seemed pretty…Young, in a way for his age, probably vain, certainly rude, judging from his clothes he was spoilt or had quickly found a job, an admirable feat for a first year so soon into term, apparently. “Look, do you just want me to leave or something? Because you’re doing a wonderful job of saying it without opening your mouth.” |

Mark couldn't help it. He smirked at her. "Well, I don't believe many people manage to have it dripping on them in said restaurants." How her voice had went up as she tossed spectacle back at him was sort of fun. It probably wasn't really all that smart to piss her off too much though. It wasn't like he had engraciated himself with the rest of the hall occupants as it was. Stlll, the eating was amazingly offputting. She didn't look exactly thrilled though as he glanced back up from his food. Well, he was making an ass out of himself he supposedl He could at least act as if the steak wasn't there. Yes, no steak. The little flecks of red was...beet juice. Okay, even Mark couldn't make himself buy that. He forced himself to sit down at least. "Leave? I'm not that offputting, am I?" Okay, now it was a game in Mark's opinion. Who could stand the other the longest. That suddenly made things a good deal easier though Mark would not admit it at all. "Well, I guess I must be but I'm sorry for that." |

“Yes. You are that offputting,” she said, looking him straight in the eyes. Humans always seemed to hate that. “You don’t sound sorry either.” Taking a careful bite of steak, she tore off a little bit of bread, nibbling on it carefully. He wasn’t sitting down out of the goodness of his heart, or at least that’s what she gathered from his body language. Or maybe she was paranoid. She should at least finish her steak there. If she ate it in her room the smell would just linger and drive her crazy for the rest of the day. So, switching to ignoring him would probably be a better option, as he didn’t seem keen to do much on the communications front aside from attempting what seemed to be nicely veiled biting wit. Hell. Maybe she was being paranoid. |

Mark looked down, finding the staring really uncomfortable. He still knew she was doing it though so looking away made it no better. Actually a bit worse really as he couldn't see her face. "Well, I would tell you I was but I doubt you'd believe me." His voice had lost a good deal of it's edge now which he was quite relunctant to acknowledge the fact. Well, just as long as she wasn't looking at him like she had been her steak. Silence was alright. Mark could definitely live with silence. Though now the only sound to be heard now was their eating. It could be his imagination but he could swear that the steak squished when she went to cut it. Probably blood and juice slipping out onto the plate. Right, that went with everything else he didn't want to think about. It was hard to not listen to the steak though while there was nothing else to listen to. He just wasn't sure which would be the greater evil at the moment, steak noises or making conversation. The steak was getting to him. He couldn't just let himself listen to it. It absolutely grated on his ears. If Mark didn't know any better he would say that it was making his eardrums itch. "So, what are you studying?" |

“Classics,” Grey responded, not showing how pleased she was that she’d managed to make him squirm a little. She’d gathered she wouldn’t be able to make friends with this one, so there was no real point in anything other than the necessary civility that came with living in halls. They had until May to put up with each other after all. Finishing the last bite of steak, she realised that she had no way of finishing off the juices without doing it in his face, which would likely make him sick all over the table which wasn’t something she wanted to put up with very much. Unless… Standing up, she walked around the table and headed towards the sink so that they both had their backs to each other. Grabbing the pan, she made it clatter into the sink with one hand, using the other to tilt the plate up, drinking the blood quickly. Hopefully he’d hear no slurps or anything. Not that Grey did slurp as she did have manners at least when it came to eating. Putting it down, she felt somewhat better, even enough to turn back to him. “So, what are you doing then?” |

"Archaeology." Mark replied a bit shortly. She had already left the table after all so obviously she really wasn't too interested in continuing the conversation. Not that he was either. It just detracted from the noises he was all to conscious of. At least she wasn't eating anymore really. Mark couldn't remember the last time that he had been so relieved for someone to finish eating. Now that she was done Mark wished that he had made more food. He had forced everything down to maintain face but now it was quite gone. Turning around, Mark turned right back around to hide the strange look on his face. Well, he supposed she didn't waste one drop, did she? He stood up, damned if he was going to be squeamish just because his not exactly friendly dinner companion thought that steak was good to the last drop. Plus she could surely share the sink, right? Nobody really appreciated finding dishes for later anyway and Mark didn't trust the other occupants of the hall to clean things up. |

Filling the sink with water, she dropped her plate and cutlery in after her pan and reached for the washing up liquid and brush. She could hear Mark behind her getting up and wandering towards the sink now it was ‘safe’ for him. “I take it, you’re a vegetarian then. You know, most I’ve met are at least tolerant towards other’s choices about what they eat and don’t go giving them the evil eye as if they’re about to pass out.” In truth, she’d met all of two vegetarians, one was in her year at school, the other a friend of her cousin, strangely enough as from what she had gathered, it had made for interesting home visits. But she’d be damned if she was going to pay to live somewhere and be treated as if she were doing something disgraceful and disrespectful. Well, in his mind she probably was, but this was a shared area and she was hardly breaking halls rules. |
