Bryn knew that it was for his own good but he really didn't like it when Reid would turn him out of the office right in the middle of updating files. It wasn't that Bryn was that work-obsessed, well, he was a little work obsessed, but it was more the fact that he was now sitting at the bar, watching his drink, and really wanting to look up to the bartender and tell him something about Fuzzies over in Glasgow forming some sort of support group. That would get him cut off quickly and he hadn't even finished his second drink so it was best not to give into any temptation to open his mouth and explain why it was so funny that the support group was going to have grilled steaks.

Reid was right, I really do need to get out more. This is pathetic. Well, it was pathetic without figuring Bryn's work into the situation; sitting at the bar alone, boredly swirling his drink around trying to sort the little slice of lime further down into the glass. Bryn had already sampled enough of this brand of pathetic for it not to really occur to him anymore though. That was just his schtick really.

Of course, an attempt at being social would probably cure most of this. He straightened up on his stool and twisted it around so he was leaning against the bar to better see the people around him. Or perhaps he should just go home. There was a pile of DVDs and the possibility of food more appealing than what was currently around him to mull through.

Slipping in through the door of the bar, Grey cleared her throat a little, the cigarette smoke from outside the doors irritating her a little. Well, better than inside at least. Keeping her hood up, she made her way over towards the bar, ordering her drink in a quiet undertone. Last thing she wanted was attention.

The barman gave her a look and asked for ID. Making a face at the request, she plucked a card out of her wallet and slid it over the bar with her money. If they didn’t like that, they were welcome to have her take her money elsewhere…It was good enough, and the man pushed her her drink. Picking up the bottle, Grey took a slow sip, seating herself at the bar, where she could keep an eye on things and where she also had a clear line to the door.

Gently spinning the bottle in a slow circle around on the bar, she hefted her bag on to her lap, unzipping it with the other hand, taking a look at the spines of the books she’d gotten from the library. Damn studying. Maybe she should have just gone feral and left all this sort of thing behind…

There was a lot of pot noodles at home, that wouldn't go completely amiss. It had been a while since Bryn had had to use his fire extinguisher in any case so things involving slight cooking should be alright. He chewed on his finger slightly as he thought to himself, only pulled out of his thoughts as someone took a seat a few places down from him.

Socalization, right. It wasn't healthy for all of the people you talk with to be people you worked with, right? Well, them and anyone who happened to be in the holding cells. Usually they weren't the best conversationalists though. Something about being imprisioned really didn't make a person agreeable.

Bryn smiled briefly as he saw the books she was pulling out, recognizing a few of them. "When I had to ead them I had always hoped that the person before had forgot and left bits of money in there as bookmarks. Never got that lucky though so I suppose it'll never happen." He took a drink from his gin as he thought over whether what he said was average conversation or over the line to strange. It was hard to avoid strange anymore but he had never been all that good at it before.

Giving a very slow blink, Grey turned her head towards the speaker. Welsh. Not quite drunk exactly. Bored? Taking another sip of beer, she put her bottle down and put the books away. Whoever he was, he was being nosey enough to put her off flicking through them.

“Yeah. Students leaving money in books when they could be drinking it. That’s a good one.” Zipping the bag up, she put it under her stool, hooking her foot in the strap and turned her attention back to looking around, though she was quite sure he’d probably start talking again…Though, and this was the worst part, she wasn’t totally sure she would mind that too much.

"True, that does spoil the dream." He was sure that the others would get a great laugh if the were able to witness this. Bryn hoped at least that there wasn't something trailing him to make that possible. It probably would be a good idea to keep tabs on employees once in a while. He was pretty sure Laura wasn't the only person to ever bring a few things home from work she technically shouldn't have had on hand. Maybe he should just break into the lockers sometime? There was surely something in there that could be of some form of use at moments like this? Potions, amulets, a gun? Well, he had the gun already but that just was silly.

Yes, she was shoving things back into her bag, that wasn't the best of signs. It read very loudly of 'preparing to make an escape from the strange bloke at the bar'. Oh God...have I become 'that guy'? I don't want to be 'that guy'. Bryn cringed inwardly but avoided actually doing so visibly. If he was going to have an existential crisis about the person he had somehow become he was damned if he was going to do so visibly.

She was looking around too, possibly looking for friends to fuel her escape or so Bryn assumed. It would be what he would probably do in her situation anyway. Still, he couldn't actually stop himself from going on. It was a compulsion of boredom and a hint of depression for not having anything better to do. God, he was that guy.

"Well, at least you're putting money to good use, eh?"

“It’s a use anyway. But they generally lie when they say this is all that students do…” come to think of it, this was only the second time she’d ever been in here. Or third? Wasn’t really her priority, keeping track of bar nights. Usually only when something worth remembering would happen and she had a feeling that this would turn into one of those nights…Oh she hoped she wouldn’t have to get her teeth out for this one, she really didn’t.

Still…Giving him another sideways inspection from behind her hood, she figured it wouldn’t take much to send him running. Maybe a few stern words if he annoyed her too much. Considering she still had beer, moving wasn’t high on her list or priorities at that point. Maybe some pork scratchings to tide her over til she could get back to halls and get some steak. Sadly, due to all the others on her floor, bulk buying and cramming the fridge full wasn’t a great idea. And the freezer was little more than a box. She really should have picked self catered.

"Oh yes, this is only the entertainment for when you aren't feeling creative enough to think up something better." Bryn nodded slightly, remembering back on some of the ever so slightly asinine things he attempted as a student. Now not only was he that guy but he was actually feeling nostalgic? It was far too early in life to feel like that, wasn't it? Especially over things that hadn't really been all that long ago.

Bryn tilted his drink back, finishing it and tapping for a refill. If he was going to be like this he wasn't going to hold back on the drinking at least. Though being hung over for work had rather bad implications now that he thought about it. Nothing quite like chasing down what have you with one monsterous headache. Well, fuck it. That was tomorrow and it wasn't tomorrow yet.

She was glancing at him and Bryn had this strange feeling that he was being sized up and found slightly lacking. He wasn't sure why that bothered him but it did. He gave her a slightly confused look at that although he wasn't quite sure he would like for things to be explained.

He was looking at her oddly. “What? Do I have something on my face?” she wondered if she’d gotten ink on her cheek from falling asleep in class, but maybe he’d caught out she was staring at him…Oh, yes, that was what humans considered rude wasn’t it.

“Well…This place is better than nothing, despite it being last resort entertainment. It’s just nice to get out of halls. Gets crowded in there,” she shrugged, pulling a little back into her hood as she drank her beer, tapping on the bar with a pound coin for her scratchings. She’d gathered it wasn’t a popular choice with young women, but hell, it was the closest thing to meat she’d be able to get for cheap in that place, without taking a bite out of Ginger’s arm.

The smell of gin made her smirk a little. He was going to get druuuunk. Maybe she should stick around and find amusement when he decided to head home, falling over on the kerb outside several times on the way. Even if he didn’t, the mental image would keep her preoccupied enough.

"Oh, no, nothing." Perhaps he had been wrong. Bryn realized he had never exactly been gifted when it came to reading people. That had to be a handy talent...maybe another thing to check out if he really did go through with breaking into the lockers. It was something to consider anyhow although he was sure he would never actually go through with it. Sometimes Bryn was sure that he was more than a little bit spineless about things.

"Yes, too many people caught up in the latest dramatic happenings of their lives. It's rarely dull but it's oftentimes annoying." Bryn remembered that all too well from his time put in living in the halls. There was something he found he wasn't missing. Perhaps the gin was doing what he wanted it to do for a change. That was quite nice of it.

And here the refill was. How very well timed. Bad ideas usually did at least show up ontime when one decided to go through with them, at least in Bryn's experience. He glanced over again to see what his fellow patron's bad idea would be. "I'm not sure how you can stomach those but more power to you."

“When you live on Government handouts alone, you learn to avoid being picky,” she shrugged and popped one in her mouth and wondered if this place did food. That other bar she’d been to did, not bad steaks there either and they hadn’t minded doing it rarer than rare.

“Though…If you know halls, you’d know that,” she looked at him again with a small smirk. Unless this was one of those that had a nice little mummy and daddy to pay for everything. God if she met another spoilt brat in halls she was going to start leaving dead rabbits outside doorways.

Shredding the corner of her beer label, she noted her nails could do with a trim already. It wasn’t even a week until the full moon. Damn. She was going to have to be careful and actually decide what she was going to do when it came to it. There was always the park behind her building…Licking her salty fingertip, she considered it. Or she could always go out of the city…Though, if there was another pack…Almost forgetting that the man was there, she started to scratch at the bar top in thought.

"Oh yes, I remember all too well. Definitely don't miss that." Well, he was feeling better anyway. It was almost magical. That thought was enough to make Bryn wonder if there was something unexpeted in his drink. Probably not though. He really had been working too often if he had begun to start thinking like that. That would be one heck of a thing to happen though, step out of the headquarters only to be doped by questionable liquids.

If he remembered this stray thought tomorrow he was going to have to spend the morning culling through old files to see how often this had happened before. He really hoped he didn't find as many as he would suspect.

"What are...did the bar do something to you?" Bryn took a while to realize she was abusing the bar. That was well strange. "You must have rather strong fingernails it would seem."

Stopping quickly, she pulled her sleeves over her fingers, hiding them. “Oh…No. Just no beer mats to pull apart…” she muttered a little. She was going to have to keep her hands to herself. Too many nosy people.

“I think I must have. Strong nails that is. Probably a family trait or the right diet or something of that sort…” it made her give an inward, evil snicker to say that. It was the truth after all, so really, what harm was there in it?

Yes, he was working too long. Bryn was alread thinking through all of the files he had dealt with of things with nails...talons, claws, what have you. Reid was right for making him head out. He'd probably start driving the others batshit if he kept on like this. They'd possibly have to put him in the cells as well just for observation's sake.

"Quite something. Wouldn't want to be furniture at your family's house." He couldn't help but think it odd that she tucked her hands away though. Just paranoia though. Trying to take my work home with me. That's it. Need to stop that. Not healthy at all.

Tensing a little at what he said, she took a hefty swig of beer, draining the bottle. “Well. I can’t comment on that. Left home for good now.” Okay, that possibly wasn’t the best thing to say, seeing as he’d just have a poke at that as well. This was why she shouldn’t talk to strangers in bars. Or rather, talk to anyone at all as it would just end up with her saying something incriminating.

Grey watched him watch her as she pushed the bottle away, gesturing for another. Leaning down, she carefully picked her bag up to get some more money out, this time hiding the contents so he couldn’t strike up another conversation after spying something else in there. Not that there was anything out of place, other than maybe a spare shirt in case of ‘accidents’. Her jeans were ripped enough anyway to stop caring. Now it was just part of her ‘image’.

"Ah, tensions I take it?" Bryn supposed he should leave that alone. She did bring it up though so perhaps she wanted to talk about it. Sitting at a bar talking about your parents and never going home? Perhaps he wasn't the only person bordering on the pathetic tonight. Bryn was pretty certain he had no room to make fun of that though. Pots, kettles, black and all that.

"Well, in any case this is an alright place to start out I suppose." He really wasn't sure what exactly to say about all that of course but it felt odd not to reply...even though he was talking about this to a complete stranger as he was growing a bit tipsy. This probably wasn't the best idea he could have had for this evening's activities.
