An escape from the smiling freaks stood before this young woman in the form of a frozen solitude. Relief filled Hannya as she emerged from the creepy sunshine and rainbow hell known as Malral. It was almost enough to turn her stomach and cause her to regurgitate her most recent meal. The was no way that many people living together, besides the snub bitch Nurse, could be that happy all the time. Slinging her festive-looking Vulpix bag around to her front, she pulled out a pair of pink and white thigh-high leggings and a pair of black leather combat boots to change into. With her items in hand, she tossed her bag back onto her shoulder and arched one of her legs up to where she could reach her shoe easily without taking a seat on the ground. She removed one of her flats and then slid on a scrunched up legging over her skin to help protect it from the cold wasteland she was about to endure. After repeating the same ordeal with her opposite leg, her flats now replaced with black knee-high leather boots, she felt that she was ready to continue on. Despite wearing a halter top dress in this weather, she was confident that she would be warm enough to traverse through these lands.

With all of her team currently tucked away into their safe and warm pokeball homes, she decided on calling out one to keep her company. As she dug about in her backpack for a certain teammate's pokeball, she returned the flat slippers she had been wearing previously to their storage place. Pressing the rubbery button on the front side of the ball, she called upon the only partner she thought could withstand the cold path before them. A darling Vulpix appeared from the red beam coming from within the pokeball with a delighted chirp. "Vul-Pi!" Akari the Vulpix swayed her cluster of tails as she looked up to Hannya with, what one could only assume to be, a smile on her face. Hannya peered down to the fellow kitsune and gave her a slight nod of her head. "Okay... It's time to head out. Keep yourself on alert, Akari." She said quietly as she took a careful step forwards and into the slippery terrain.

The frozen ground caused her to lose balance after a few steps, her knees nearly buckling beneath her at first. After she took a few more steps to the North, she was able to regain her posture and found it a bit easier to walk. Perhaps the grips on the bottom of her unladylike boots aided in keeping her upright or just that Lady Luck was on her side today, but she found it easier as she went on to maneuver through the frozen terrain. Akari, on the other hand, pranced across the iced over valley and found herself at ease instead of stumbling like her mistress had. Hannya peered down to the fox with a quirked brow, "I see that walking on all fours is an easier task than two. If I had better control over my transformation powers, perhaps I would join you in a nice run across these fields." The woman chuckled to herself, then redirected her view to what await ahead of them. "One day I will run alongside you, Akari. I promise you that." She only hoped that it wouldn't take her that long to master her mysterious kitsune powers. It would be great if she were to run across an older kitsune or find some type of studies on her kind. That was, if an ancient book like that even existed. Hannya rolled her shoulders and shrugged off the thought for now, continuing her trek onwards to Kevin Baconville.

The fog hung thick and cold over the frozen landscape, each step with the boots crunching ice underfoot. Vague shapes of frozen grass and reeds were visible under the surface, some poking through the surface, reminding anyone that this place used to be a swamp. The ice was still frozen thickly over the ground, salt water from the ocean that had poured through the mountains to help end a war. But that was a long time ago.

It was hard to navigate with the fog, but as long as they headed in a generally north direction, they'd get through it eventually. The ice got thicker as they walked, now getting very slippery, where concentration would be required to keep from falling over.

"Whee!"

From the fog, a snover suddenly slid past sitting on its butt. No need to worry about falling for him! He looked happy about something. Maybe all the fun sliding around he was doing.

The travel through these frozen lands seemed to be off to a great start since she hadn't fallen on her face yet. However, with the the terrain's ice becoming slicker as she went further into the valley, she found herself being more careful with her steps than before. The ice was harder to crunch through and because of this, she was finding her feet sliding off in random directions. So far, though, she seemed to be stable enough on her feet. As she struggled to prevent herself from wiping out, an odd scene unfolded before her.

A random Snover went sliding past on it's rear end like a child on a sled. Hannya stopped in her steps and watched the cheerful little tree zoom around. His happiness turned her stomach. "Ugh... " The woman groaned out, eyes rolling back into her skull before she turned her attention down to Akari. The small fire kitsune returned her gaze and let out a squeaky bark.

"I haven't gotten to train you since I got you, so let's see how well you do in battle." Hannya paused and pointed over at the Snover.

"Use Captivate on him and follow it up with a Ember attack."

The commands were pretty simple, so Akari strutted over to the frosty tree Pokemon and gave it her best. Swaying her tails sweetly, she twisted her body cutely and gave a seductive twirl to show off her gorgeous little canine-like body to the male. Hannya watched her little one for a moment, a thought crossing her mind. Oh my goddess... Can a tree even find a mammal attractive?

The snover slowed to a stop to stare at the fire fox approaching, realizing the temperature was rising before anything else. However, when the snover realized a battle was to be had, he flexed his arms and the sun was replaced by snow and sharp pieces of hail, the slower pokemon's ability overriding the faster one. Snover stood slowly, distracted by the vulpix's moved. He shook his head, and added to the falling ice with his own gust of wind... less impressive after he was distracted. To be fair, it wouldn't have been that interesting anyway.

Akari got ready for some embers, tails wavering, all pumped up and ready. She spit a mouthful of them at the frozen pine tree... and as soon as they touched, the tree went up in flames and fell over.

Well, uh. That was fast. Akari gains .9 EXP. And gets smacked in the nose by a piece of hail for good measure.

While the tree engulfed into flames and fell over into a deathly heap, a brow was quirked. Hannya shouldn't have been surprised that it succumb so easily to the flames, but oddly enough she was. Drawing a hand back, she scratched at the back of her head and let out a breath of air. "Ooh-kay. Good job, little Akari." The woman bent down onto one knee to reach the kitsune's height, the ice slush seeping through her stocking almost instantaneously, reaching out to give her a gentle pat. Following the pat on the head, she rotated her hand around to scratch behind her ears. Akari leaned her head into her owner's palm, craving more of this loving attention that she was receiving after doing great in battle.

She grit her teeth through the piercing pain of the cold and attempted to smile at Akari, her lips curling into more of a creepy, demonic grin rather than the gentle smile she had desired. Akari didn't seem to mind though, as her tails swayed about and she let out a playful chirp. "Pi!" This intense cold wouldn't have been as bad if Hannya had the sound of mind to purchase warm clothing rather than the outfits she was traveling with. She made a mental note to purchase more warmer clothing in the next town in case she found herself in a place like this once again.

With the battle swiftly done with, and the sickly sweet scent of burning pine filling the air, Hannya ended her praising of Akari and rose from her kneeling position. Dusting off the clumps snow that clung to her leggings, she began to continue her journey to the north.

The remains of the pine tree smoldered quietly as they moved away form it, the smoke adding to the general haze in the frozen valley. At least it smelled nice, which is more then can be said about most things burning.

Unfortunately, this area was gigantic and would take time to cross. Hannya couldn't really even tell if they were heading the right way, though if they kept up in a straight line it should be fine, right?

Well, that was the theory. If nothing else, they could just keep heading north and eventually get out of the terrible fog.

For now, they would have to keep walking. The deeper into the area they headed, the thicker the fog became, until it pressed in close, only allowing them to see a few feet in any direction. It was eerily quiet as well, as if they were the last creatures on the planet.

Or not. The ice was slippery, and it was a struggle to keep from falling over. Hannya stepped on a jagged bit of ice, which squealed and jumped up, offended. What in the world kind of pokemon was that?

Hannya squinted her eyes through the thickening fog, trying to see what was ahead of her. It would be treacherous if she were to fall into a ravine or hole. "Stay close, my dear. I would hate to lose you out here." As she spoke, she turned her attention to the kitsune walking next to her, assuring that she had heard her command. Akari brushed her body against Hannya's legs as if to let her know that she had been heard. The young woman smiled gingerly as the fox's fur warmed her calf slightly. It pleased her that she had a partner that followed her orders as they were spoken. "Good girl."

Not even a moment after her small chat with her vulpix companion, Hannya suddenly found herself losing balance and tumbling backwards. As her back slammed into the hard ground, she gasped out all the air from her lungs. The fall hurt. "Uhhhn..." She groaned, as she finally began to stir from her laying position on the frozen earth. Sitting upright, she found herself nearly eye-to-eye with a Pokemon that she had never seen before. This ice shard of a creature looked completely pissed off. Maybe that's why she fell- She had stepped on this little guy, and he was just trying to get away.

Being naturally curious about this mysterious Pokemon, she snatched her Pokedex to identify it. As she directed the device towards the creature, it sprung to life with a voice, "Bergmite. The Ice Chunk Pokemon. It blocks opponents' attacks with the ice that shields its body. It uses cold air to repair any cracks with new ice."

"Bergmite, huh? Interesting." Hannya said as she put the Pokedex back into it's place within her vulpix-shaped backpack. "Akari, let's go easy with an Ember attack. If it's still standing, use another Ember attack."

Having heard the words of her mistress, the small fire fox breathed in deep to begin forming an ember attack. Her throat burned hot with the crackling embers, before she opened her mouth and released the attack out towards the ice shard Pokemon known as Bergmite.

The bergmite was maaaaad. Boy was it mad. So far, since moving out here from Kalbor, she hadn't seen a single trainer or trained pokemon. It was nice, and cold, and she enjoyed it. But now all of her relaxation was shattered by this weird looking person and their vulpix. And now they wanted to fight? Psh.

The fox stepped forward, and the sunlight suddenly pierced through the fog to illuminate the battlefield. Bergmite didn't like that, grumbling and trying to drop the temperature again. The air actually did suddenly start dropping in temperature, thanks to the wild pokemon's ability to summon absolutely freezing cold air. But Akari was having none of that nonsense, puffing out a breath of embers that seemed to catch fire in the sun. They struck the wild monster with a hiss of steam, and it crumbled to the ground, defeated.

As soon as the battle was done, the sun faded, leaving them in the cold gray nothingness again.

Akari gained 0.9 EXP. I RNG'd bergmite's ability, and it ended up being Own Tempo, if anyone is curious.

The battle was once again ended quickly, but what would one expect when a fire-type fights an ice-type. "Time to get a move on, again." Hannya said to Akari as she picked herself up from the frozen ground and looked over to the melting ice shard Pokemon. It must have been in quite some pain, if it were still living anyways. However, Hannya found herself shrugging it off cold heartedly and making her way around it so she could continue on through the valley.

Akari watched her mistress begin to walk onward and quickly made her way after her. She pranced cheerfully around the defeated ice-type Pokemon, taking a moment to kick some loose snow on top of it with her back feet; a sign of dominance. When all was said and done, she rushed back to Hannya's side. The two went along their journey together through the frozen wasteland.

Once again they headed off through the seemingly endless fog and ice, quickly losing sight of the melted bergmite. Nothing else jumped out at them, or tripped the kitsune, but the ice underfoot would always be slippery. It looked much deeper here then it had been earlier; this was where the valley had actually been a more distinct valley before it had been filled with water and flash frozen. Looking down at the ice would give the eerie feeling of walking over a bottomless pit; there was no ground visible under their feet where the ice was clear, only endless ice that faded to black.

Unnerving terrain aside, after what felt like forever, they heard something. The vulpix heard it just before her trainer. Something, or a few somethings, twittered and tweeted in the fog. Visibility had started to barely improve, showing they were going the right way to get out of the worst of the fog, but the sound was off to the side, and would definitely be a detour.

If they decided not to investigate, the fog would thin out a little, and the ground would become visible again beneath their feet, and the ice would start to melt. Or, they could go see what all the noise was about.

Investigate noise, or move onto Sinklands 1?

While the adventure may be fairly quiet between the two kitsune, it was justified in Hannya's mind. She simply had nothing to say to anyone when she wasn't putting on a show for strangers to divert their attention from her obvious outward difference and dark, hidden nature. The thought of people trying to sacrifice or study her sent a shiver down her spine. It's been a while since the demon within had been released unwillingly, but she was sure it could be provoked to unleash it's wrath on innocent people once again.

The saying 'Curiosity killed the cat' would be applied here if Hannya were a Neko instead of a Kitsune. Fuzzy red ears that lay atop of her head towards the noise off to the distance in the thick fog. She came to a sudden stop and swiveled about on her heels towards the direction of the noise. What was making that twittering sound, she wondered. "Whatever may be awaiting for us over there, Akari, needs to be discovered." Hannya motioned to the Vulpix to follow her as she moved off her directed path to figure out what Pokemon were out there making all that racket.

The two fox-creatures prowled through the fog towards the twittering noise, and it steadily got louder as they approached. Suddenly, small shapes were on the ground, but still shrouded in fog. At that point, whatever they were must have saw Hannya and Akari, because the shapes suddenly took the sky in a loud flurry of feathers.

One shape was left behind once the air cleared of feathers and noise. A single natu tilted its entire body back and fourth at them curiously, peeping a few times. Well, it wasn't an ice type, if nothing else. The area was all chopped up from them breaking through the ice with their beaks, and eaten the frozen grass seeds below the surface, or whatever else they could have found. It continued staring, waiting for the trainer and pokemon to move again.

The cluster of creatures fluttered off as they approached, their shadows dancing on the layer of fog. While the fog cleared slightly as the duo reached the source of the bird-like noises, they stood before a single tennis ball-shaped creature that Hannya recognized as a Natu. Perhaps that was what the other shadows were, but unlike the other bird Pokemon, this little guy decided to stay behind. Was it mentally challenged? Hannya wondered as she watched it sway back and forth, following her movements. "Eh..."

Clucking her tongue against the roof of her mouth, she stared at the Natu wonderingly. "Akari, love, there's another opponent for you to defeat. Use Hex, followed up with an Ember." Hannya commanded as her bushy red tail flicked off to the side.

Akari stepped right up to the batting plate, her eyes began to seep an eerie purple aura before those naturally amber eyes morphed into a piercing red. With a shrill cry, the ghostly aura shot off towards the Natu.

The bird-ball trilled when Hannya moved after the natu had started staring, hopping a few paces away from them. He whistled shrilly as the thought of battle passed through the trainer's mind, as if warning them not to. When the vulpix stepped forward, the natu did too, shaking his head. Alright, it was on now.

Akari was just a tiny bit faster then the wild pokemon, hexing the bird and making him stumble and falter. He did jump forward and shoot out a confusing strobe light of sound and color, confusing the fox immediately. She had to squint and concentrate as hard as she could to make sense of how the world was spinning, the sunlight streaming down suddenly too hot, the ice underpaw too cold. Did something smell weird?

But, the fox was able to come back into focus long enough to spit some embers onto the natu, which took the already weakened pokemon to the edge and pushed them over. Natu fell over, and everything was quiet again. +.9 EXP for the fox.

Clearly this vulpix needs to be stopped.

A chuckle escaped from the young woman's lips as she quickly drew up a hand to somewhat mask her harsh behavior over yet another win. "That was spectacular! You've once again pleased me, Akari. Job well done." Hannya spoke as she bent down and swept the kitsune Pokemon off her feet, caressing her close to her chest. Gingerly wrapping her arms around her, she lovingly gave her a hug. "You are my good girl." She praised as she nuzzled her face into Akari's fuzzy cheek.

Akari squeaked as she was suddenly lifted off the ground. "Pi?" She cried out questioningly. As she felt her body squeezed against the pillow-y chest of her mistress, she closed her eyes and accepted the embrace. "Vulpi..." Akari chimed contently, returning the nuzzle.

With Akari in her arms, and yet another opponent downed, Hannya strolled back in the direction she was originally headed. She knew if they were to continue on this path they were on, that Akari and herself would grow strong together and prove to be quite the tag team. It may take a big longer for her powers to level out, but in the mean time she had Akari to focus on.

The vulpix felt happier and a lot more comfortable, especially with all the praise she had been getting lately. In fact, she felt a noticeable amount happier. (+1 :happiness )

They continued on their northward path, where the fog thinned out a little. They still couldn't see very far, but at least it wasn't like walking in formless white and gray, pressing down on all sides. Now it was less... creepy.

The ice on the ground also thinned, eventually snapping and crumbling underfoot where the ground had rushed up to meet it, eventually disappearing entirely. Instead of thick ice, a few steps into the thickly grassed ground, the fox-woman sunk a few inches into the soil with a wet schlop sound. It wasn't a deep sinkhole, but there was no surface indication that it had even been there.

Sinklands 1, you are there.
