This time, when Jin White appeared in the Aridair Outpost, it was teeming with people. The last time, when the War with Jgsei threatened to devastate the nation, and when Jin found himself stranded and lost in the desert, the Outpost was abandoned.

This time, when Jin White approached the looming arena of the Gym, he felt himself propelled by the arm of fate. Last time, he was a flag in the wind, listless, starving, and broken. There was a whole team of pokémon at his disposal, now, and they were battle-ready if not a little competitive.

He put up a wall in the back of his mind. It held back all the questions and all the doubt, and this let him be okay with striving for success as it was presented to him. He already had one badge, not on his chest, but buried somewhere in the bag around his shoulder, and now he was striving for another. It was a bigger mountain he hoped to climb, this time, and he didn't let himself look back at the landscape he was leaving behind...

He pushed through the doors of the Gym and the smell of sweat and sand filled his nose. He was in a stadium, a colosseum, made of metal and covered with sand. The sun was intensely, brilliantly white, and it glinted off the surfaces of jagged silver edges here and there at his feet. He held his chin high, knowing full well he was under prepared. He held his chest out, knowing full well that he could lose but that his drive would propel him forward.

He fingered the pokéballs at his waist, and he pulled one out and towards him. He closed his eyes, held the red-and-white marble close to his face. "We're doing it right, aren't we, Abdel Aziz? Is this what Abbie wanted us to do?"

I do not mod chat battles because I take too much time trying to look up everything and keep all the details coordinated. If you don't mind RPing this out, I'll do it old school. I will be slow, but I will do it. Also, I have no idea how grunt battles work, so I'm winging this and putting the lackey's info here for reference.

Tim

A short feller was hanging out near the entrance of the gym and spotted Jin. He noticed that the stranger looked a little lost. Or if he wasn't lost, he wasn't heading toward the little old lady with the plate full of cookies in her hands. He quirked a bushy blonde eyebrow at the newcomer and hustled over.

This was Tim, a fan if NIN, and he was short. He made up for his lack in stature with muscle. Also there was his tan too, which he thought made him look pretty damn sexy. He sipped a Full Throttle energy drink and nodded coolly to the newcomer.

"Sup," he asked with a hint of a smile. "Lookin' for a battle, bro? I'm you're man. Unless of course you think you're ready for Phyllis."

He laughed. He didn't think the stranger was. Not until he proved it to him first.

"Name's Tim," he said with a gleaming white grin.

Jin was a little lost. His hands were buried in his pockets and his eyebrows were furrowed, until he raised a palm and held it over his eyes. The sun beat down on the metal-and-earth arena and it left patches of blinding white strewn over the field. Jin met the gaze of a short, stocky trainer with a rich tan and an energy drink in hand.

"I'm looking to train," said Jin. He had two general settings: questioning/murky/innocent/unsure & stoic/quiet/confident/prepared. Though the meter was always flickering, it was set now to the latter.

"Maybe you can help me get to Phyllis," he said, as he paced around the shorter man. Jin was much more lithe, but his arms and his legs showed the result of years of hard travel. "By the way..." Jin added, taking a stand some several yards away, now. "I like your shirt."

There were a number of pokéballs strapped to Jin's waist, three at either hip. It was a strange look for him, compared to the empty-pocketed, League-discouraged stoner of his youth who traveled only with his pokémon hovering at his sides. Today, though, he had something of a mission, and he was playing by the League's rules.

"Good luck," he added finally, and he tossed up one of the six pokéballs. It burst to reveal a tall green mushroom, who stood on two legs and held up two clenched fists. Jin's demeanor changed when he saw the breloom; he went from stoic, barely-contained anxiety to gratitude and delight. He gave the green mushroom an encouraging grin, and he nodded his head to the boy in the band T-shirt. "Ready?" the question was as much to the guy in the shirt as it was to Abdel Aziz, the breloom.

3LP And for the record, if anyone else wants to mod this, they totally can. Tim is simple. His details are all above.

"Thanks dude!" Tim grinned and nodded. Anyone who appreciated his music was A-OK in his book. He continued, "Yeah, I'm totally ready for this. Hey! Nice Breloom." He picked a pokeball from his belt and tossed it out. "This is King," he said, before the ball even struck the ground. When it broke open though, an explosion of red light enveloped the training area, and the massive girth of a hulking Nidoking materialized.

'King' grunted, snorted, and wiped at his nose with the back of his beefy arm. His huge ears twitched like satellite dishes, taking in all of the sounds around him. His rattling breath heaved, his nostrils flared, and he breathed in the dusty scent of the arena. Heavy feet stomped forward, leaving small mushroom clouds in his wake. A huge tail slashed and cut through the haze behind him. The monster seemed to bristle with irritation upon taking in his foe. Maybe a touch of rivalry had him riled up?

"Alright King! Set the field. Toxic Spikes!" Tim yelled from behind his huge pokemon.

King looked like he was about to be sick. He was actually vomiting up a mass of small stones he swallowed on a regular basis. Some biological process transformed the many pebbles into barbed objects coated with his own vile variety of bacteria. The Nidoking spewed and scattered the prickly, slimy mass across the floor between himself and the Breloom. Abdel Aziz was safe because he could see where they were, but anyone else switching in would not be so lucky.

3 LP // how now! nidoking doesn't learn toxic spikes, but it's cool ! nvm, my whole life i thought only nidoqueen got toxic spikes and the king was left to bash things with his great coverage options. even cooler !

- x -

Nidoking: The Drill Pokémon. It is recognized by its rock-hard hide and its extended horn. Be careful with the horn, as it contains venom. One swing of its mighty tail can snap a telephone pole as if it were a matchstick.

Nidoking was basically the reason why Jin liked pokémon. Nidokings were absurdly powerful, intimidating, triumphant creatures which spewed poison from their veins, at one instant, and summoned Thunder and Blizzards in the next. They were masters of the elements, versatile, and fearless. The one standing in front of Jin gushed toxin like vomit from its open mouth, and it managed to go about this with a sense of pride and accomplishment. It didn't appear to like Jin, and it apparently hated Abdel Aziz the breloom, which made Jin shuffle his feet and rack his brain for an idea.

"Enough, Abdel Aziz, come back." He didn't know exactly why he always had to say it like that - like it were a script from a game, the dialogue from a movie - but he drew strength from the ritual. He held out his fist and clenched a red-and-white sphere within it. The sphere opened with a gaping maw, and Abdel Aziz the breloom turned to look over his shoulder before withdrawing physically, digitally, within the pokéball. The Nidoking was alone for only a split-second before another pokémon appeared in Abdel Aziz's place.

St. Alia of the Knife resembled the preborn. She had big, deceptively innocent blue eyes that flashed intermittently with childish joy and calculative derision. She was a reuniclus, self-contained and self-aware, floating above the earth in what resembled a blue-green womb filled with mysterious liquid. Her arms were crossed over her chest and her mouth, small yet profane, was opened to a mischeivous leer. She looked about her to the poisonous spikes on the ground and she actually laughed. She looked ahead of her to the hulking, growling Nidoking, and she opened her arms in welcome. She became more feminine yet in his vision, her blue eyes wide as a child's, her soft mouth giggling.

"Protect us," Jin offered to the Abomination. She flashed like the blade of a knife. Her bright blue eyes shut closed and the wind picked up around her, kicking up dust and sand from the open arena. She pushed her arms in front of her, now, like they were pressing against a wall: and perhaps they were, because she was building with her prescient mind a wall between herself and her opponent. When her eyes opened again, they were tainted with blue mischief: they narrowed like weapons in themselves, like twin daggers held against the Nidoking's toxic mind.

Tim raised a curious eyebrow when the mushroom pokemon vanished from the field. He nodded knowingly when the floating glob appeared in its place. "Sweet pokemon, man." He grinned, appreciating the new creature's strangeness. "That thing just hit a nine on my weird scale!"

Tim was not the only one impressed by the newcomer. King seemed to shrink before his opponent, immediately detecting someone of the feminine persuasion. He couldn't help the male chauvinist reaction which ruled him. The 'go easy on the girl' instinct was too strong.

St. Alia of the Knife batted her baby blues and prodded the liquid which enveloped her with her mind. Appendages in the shape of arms waved, and a shimmering shield was erected between them. King pretended not to notice and scattered still more spikes over the floor. The little goo monster had a wide opening now, and hurled a mental spear through the air, piercing the giant right between the eyes.

The imperceptible attack doubled the mighty beast at the waist. His knees buckled next, massive paws on his head. He howled in agony. Tim called out to his pokemon. "Shake if off big guy! Don't let a girl take you out so easily!"

It was the wrong thing to say. King crashed to the floor, face first and didn't move.

"Awe, damn. Ok. I'll give you that one, buddy. But my next pokemon isn't a push over for a pretty face! Come on, Grinder!" The fallen Nidoking was withdrawn and a new mountain lumbered onto the field.

'Grinder' growled and looked about as thick as his hide. He waited for the reuniclus to make the first move.

"Right back at you. That thing is a 10/10 on the 'too big to be real' scale."

Jin was trying to be brave. The monster in front of him was more like a mountain than a living creature. 650 lbs of rock and earth glared down at him. He clenched his jaw a few times so that his temples seem to throb and he dug his heels into the earth to keep his balance. Alia, the reuniclus, looked tiny compared to the rhyperior. So, for that matter, did Jin.

Alia was not afraid. Jin caught her eyes and saw that she was laughing, like a joyous child. She nodded - her whole body rocking towards Jin White - and spread her arms at either side. Don't be afraid, Brother, said Alia's thin voice in Jin's mind. It was like the voice of a toddler, but it resonated with the heavy experience of age. I will weaken him. The dragon will break through. The cryptic phrase came with the image of a blue seahorse, huge and terrible, rushing against the sanded stadium with an ocean at its back. It was an awe-inspiring image, even more overwhelming than the rhyperior standing now before Jin. The image of the seahorse was gone: now it was just Alia and the rhyperior facing off. Jin lurched forward, recognizing that his pokémon was acting of her own accord; he was eager to gain some control over the match.

Don't be afraid, Brother, Alia repeated with a smile. Her blue eyes were wide as saucers and the derision, the calculation, the sharp intellect all melted from her features so that she was left innocent and, perhaps, pretty. Her eyes were twinkling like stars and her smile was joyful. She gave the huge rhyperior a friendly giggle. It was disarming, but Jin knew well that Alia's charming façade was always hiding a knife.

Hi Jin!
Like I said before, I'm trying out modding. ATM, I am studying a little on the current events, the pokemon, techniques, and working on the calculator while typing my post up.

I'll be back soon. Have 4 :lp for your post. Good Luck Alia!

Also, aren't you ok from Badly Poisoned because of Magic Guard?

TRAINER MUSIC

- STATUS: Gym lackey Tim vs Jin White; Alia the Reuniclus and Grinder the Rhyperior

"Well well, looks like your Reuniclus isn't scared at all. You got a real buddy there, buddy."

Tim grinned, folding his arms. Both his words and posture nicely complemented his enthusiastic demeanor and his enjoyment in battling. He also showed how cocky he was. His King was dropped, but despite that fact and compliment, Tim still held faith in his Rhyperior. Grinder was gonna show that piece of green gooey molecules, he thought. Quietly, he offered the first move.

The giant rock pokemon glared fiercely at the gloating Reuniclus. Even under its adamant body and scary features, for a second, Rhyperior shed a tremble from its body. It didn't seem intimidated, only solid in its terrorizing visage. What its body shook from was the revulsion it felt from Alia.

"We can get this done in one or two strikes. Grinder, you know the routine!" Responding to Tim, Rhyperior dug its claw into the ground and without effort, he hauled up a large boulder. He shuddered, brought a foot forward, and hesitated. It was slow, and another wave of energy flew in between the two contenders. Grinder bucked back from the Psychic blast; the large rock was thrown and crashed into Jin's Reuniclus, shattering into flying pieces upon impact.

"Whoa! Hang in there!" Tim rallied his pokemon. Grinder remained standing, giving out low languid pants. Go

(On the way)

3 :lp // and thank you. i believe i already gave you my notes on the mod but again: be mindful of pokémon's speeds in battles; the color tags to me are distracting rather than beneficial; tables help organize battle info quite well. otherwise nicely done and good luck on becoming a full-fledged moderator.

"Strike now, Brother," said the quiet, calculative voice of the reuniclus. It was the voice of a child with both too much wisdom and too much derision. "Unleash the dragon, let it destroy what it wants..." and the glowing green blob that was her body seemed to withdraw, while the image of a blue seahorse with waves crashing behind it flashed in Jin White's vision...

Alia the reuniclus, St. Alia of the Knife, was retreating almost without her trainer's consent. She wore a beguiling, would-be-innocent smile of youthfulness and she floated effortless towards Jin White. She was making the image flash with terrible certainty in his mind, like a vibrant portrait of destruction, like a movie of warfare stuck on repeat. The great blue seahorse - the dragon - rushed over the sand and brought behind it an entire ocean. The skies flashed with anger and great beasts of rock and earth stood crumbling, raising their hands and their eyes for some semblance of mercy.

"Do it now, Brother." Alia was gone like a flash of light against a blade. One of the pokéballs at Jin White's hip was opened; it was sucking her through it as though into a vacuum. Jin White, young and perpetually dazed, was left unarmed, unguarded, staring at the hulking brown figure of a rhyperior barely ten yards in the distance. Alia's words and his own heart propelled him forward. He closed his eyes, reached for a second red-and-white ball from his hip, clenched it tight before suddenly thumbing the release mechanism and praying that the dragon would keep himself under control.

Now there was a blue water dragon standing over the arena. It was ferocious, and its eyes were purple amethysts. It thrashed its long, equine neck to the left and the right; its eyes focused first on Jin White, the slender youth, and then on the massive rhyperior across the sanded field. It saw the purple, toxic spikes scattered pointedly its feet. It lifted its mouth to the sky and it let out a terrible scream.

The skies began to crackle and darken, and Jin's vision was laced with fear.

"Uh oh," said Tim after seeing Alia withdrawal. In place of the psychic type was the seahorse Kingdra, followed by a rolling sea. Totally looks water-ish, the boy thought just by one look. He then rose his head, seduced by the sudden change of atmosphere; rain fell over him and his monstrous boulder giant. Even through the spectacle, watching a rage of some God slowly entering shape and approaching, Tim kept stable since it was all part of the challenge to protect the path to his leader. However, Rhyperior, even its legs trembled at the touch of water. To Tim, he saw his pokemon as a unshakable boulder when it stood next to him. The young gym grunt watched in surprise that even the adamant Rhy could be moved even if a little by such force. The gush of water swallowed Rhyperior for a second, then ebbed. The rock remained on its feet, curling inward as the water touched him. Afterward, Tim entirely was painted in mud.

"Buddy! That's going too far!" he said.

His pokemon remained standing. As if trying to rival Duke's fearful display, the Rhyperior remained sturdy. It was truly a face off against three-staged fully-evolved pokemon in the ring. Tim kept his smile and pointed at the Kingdra. "At-a-boy Rhy! Let's go for it, Megahorn!" The giant took a step forward, then grumbled.

Tim's mouth turned to a frown. "Rhy?" The Kingdra didn't face a counter; Rhyperior tottered and fell into the moist ground.

"Uh-huh, of course! That dragon is not for show." One corner of Tim's mouth twitched. Kingdra was definitely a problem. Doesn't look like I can make this one, he thought. Despite the discouraging thought, Tim recollected his smile. He let out a laugh and opened his pokeball, recalling his downed Rhyperior.

"I'd say you're fired up enough," Tim said as he threw a pokeball. He faced a true threat, but it wasn't enough to dampen his enthusiasm. Krookodile made its first appearance. Tim's final pokemon.

"Hey Krok, that dragon thing just took out Rhy. What are we gonna do?" Tim sounded like he was taunting or unworried. "All yours. Take your pick." Krookodile's eyes flashed at Duke, and its snout seem to flare, steam hissing out its nostrils. The beast rushed forward with no fear, the water beneath its feet splashing loudly. In one swift leap, it clamped its jaws onto Duke; a barrier in between the pokemon shimmered like a glass window reflecting light. Extra pain bit into Duke's nerves from poison.

Tim crossed his arms. "I gotta keep trying, buddy."

The Kingdra, the Grand Old Duke, was on a rampage. He was born in the deep ocean south of Corporcana; he was not meant to be confined to a pokéball. Caught in his adulthood by a deep sea diver, confiscated and sent to the Digital Adoption Halls, and dragged far across the continent away from his natural habitat: these are the things that fueled the dragon's supernatural rage. His eyes were gems of amethyst, and they burned as hellfire.

The whole of the desert stadium felt, now, the dragon's wrath. The sky was a dark and unsettled patchwork of clouds, thunder, and rain. An entire ocean seemed to rise behind the dragon's back, and it swelled into a terrifying blue-brown wall, as the otherwise arid desert air transformed into something entirely foreign. The kingdra was crackling and storming both with water and with ice. It tossed its long mouth into the air, screaming, until icicles, in long and colorful beams, fell like thunderbolts from the grey blanket overhead. Jin White - the unruly dragon's "trainer" - fought desperately to temper his own emotions, so that the dragon might be calmed, but with every passing instant the sky grew darker and heavier and the swelling wave crashed ahead...

Now, amidst all of this turmoil and passion, something remarkable happened. Jin noticed that his bag was apparently throwing itself around his shoulder with its own life. He was being drenched by the dragon's storm, and deathly icicles fell as lances all about him... but he put a hand up against the elements and he spilled the contents of his bag all over the muddy sand. Two large cream-colored eggs rolled onto the desert earth, but one of the two tossed itself towards the blue dragon at the center of the storm. Jin caught the egg, held it firmly in a two-handed grip; it cracked itself against his hands, falling apart in sticky and messy shards, until a tiny blue monster tumbled to the ground with a broad, gaping maw. It started to run like a little rocket first in a circle, and then towards Duke the kingdra. Again Jin grabbed the energetic creature, holding it tight in his arms, lest it find himself at the wrong end of a glittering beam of ice.

It was a tiny gible - a sand dragon, a land shark pokémon - and it was intensely excited by the storm. It looked up at Jin White and yapped its enormous mouth even as the thunder swallowed its cries, and as the crashing waves rushed through the stadium. It was full of life, and it was already very hyper, and Jin did what he could to hold the small dragon in his arms.

He cast a glance at the other egg, still waiting silently on the floor. It didn't move, though its shell was decorated now with age and Jin was sure it should have hatched alongside the gible. It refused to change; a small part of Jin knew he wasn't that egg's true owner.

Struggling to keep the gible in place, the pokémon trainer turned his attention to the kingdra and the krookodile who faced off amidst a blue and white storm.

He was stunned silent by the display of overwhelming power, and his shirt was sticking against his body, drenched thoroughly by the falling rain and the waves. He thought, "why?" It felt beyond a superficial battle where animals threw attacks left and right.

"KROKO!" Tim's scream unleashed the apprehension that was building inside of him. The Krookodile pulled back after its jaw attack, and the mud wave towering above came crashing down. When its level thinned, Kroko stood his ground. Tim was expecting it to go falling down like his Rhyperior; Kroko's head was bowed, a sign that it fainted. To be expected from Duke, the water overcoming the ground without fail. Krookodile shuddered and began to cradle; curling from one end to the other was a long smile.

Tim grinned. "Heh. Shake that dragon!"

Kroko's eyes flashed, and there was the expectation of dirty play. The brown croc inclined its body and chopped the ground with its claw. A wave sliced through the ground, which shook its very being violently. A jagged crack formed in between the two pokemon. The water on the ground began to sink inside the gap. A myriad of earth pillars rose suddenly below Duke, striking the water dragon before collapsing. The reflection field shimmered from each blow.

A rainbow like beam streaked towards Kroko, and its body was impaled by icicles! The lizard roared in pain.

"We almost got it! You can do it!" Tim encouraged, flexing his arm. Even against waves and rain, the Krokodile remained standing. As his last picked pokemon, Tim hoped for it to keep it up longer. He could acknowledge that Jin was tough, but he had his gym leader to protect and wanted to do whatever he could.

"Mud-Slap!" Krokodile spun around and thrashed the ground with its tail. Mud-polluted water flew right into Duke's eyes. The sting of that was followed by the poison.

Duke, the dragon, filled the air with his storm. The desert arena where he stood was a swamp, now, of mud and rain and Jin White stood sinking into the earth. He was supposed to be the dragon's trainer, and he was smart enough to know that this dragon would not be tamed.

Duke, the dragon, was on a rampage. He was battered, enraged, poisoned, and howling into the sky. His head was twisting and his eyes were flashing as purple gemstones, ready to crack and burst with unearthly light. The dragon turned towards Jin. The human saw no recognition in the creature's eyes, nor pity, nor love. He saw instead the devastation of toxic poisoning and the fury of a thousand monsters larger than itself. The Grand Old Duke turned on Jin; Jin's hand flashed to his belt, forcing himself to maintain face, finding the red-and-white prison that held the kingdra's spirit. He pressed its button, and the kingdra disappeared.

There was a vague sinking feeling in Jin's chest, in his hand gripping the red-and-white ball, in his eyes as he looked over the wet and ravaged battlefield. He didn't know what to think or how to feel; he was in the middle of a battle. His jaw locked and his eyes narrowed and he gave his opponent a curt nod, like this were all part of the game plan.

He tossed another pokéball forward. This one burst open, and when it did, relief showed on Jin's brow. A tall green mushroom, lanky but strong, stood with his shoulders back and his chin up. Jin's resolution spread into a grin. "Quick, buddy, stay alert. Hit him, now." Jin felt his fist tighten instinctively, and he realized he was still holding the kingdra's pokéball in his left hand. It felt warm, and a little wet. Rain fell from the sky in great droves, and the sky still roared with Duke's thunder. Jin focused on the battle, because that was what he knew.

withdrawing Kingdra because it's out of control. using my third switch.

There was another, smaller dragon at Jin's feet: it was a newborn gible, and it loved the way the sand felt against its skin when it did small circles around the human. It bit down on Jin's leg, who kept his attention fixed on the tall green breloom. "Hey," he said, scooping up the baby dragon and facing him towards the breloom. Jin's leg was bleeding. "That's your big brother, Abdel Aziz." He rubbed the dragon on the head, though the texture was coarse, sandy. The dragon's huge jaw opened and closed and yelped and the gible tried to jump, tried to reach for the wet pokéball in Jin's hand. "I know you want to see Duke. You will, after this battle, okay?" He touched the dragon's head again and held the tiny monster closer to himself.

Tim gritted his teeth. It was all or nothing now. "Outrage, now!" he called, and Krookodile leaned forward and roared, raising one foot. Duke vanished into his pokeball, and the reptile hissed at being deprived of his opponent. When Abdel Aziz appeared on the battlefield, the Krookodile wasted no time in slamming his foot into the ground, a deep blue energy building up around his jaws, flashes of yellow in it matching the angry yellow of his eyes. He took another step towards Abdel Aziz and the energy darted from him and slammed into his opponent, wisping around him.

Abdel Aziz staggered back a little, before shaking himself and darting towards the Krookodile as the energy build-up began again. While the lizard was off guard, Abdel darted in and jabbed him in his softer underbelly. The Krookodile roared, falling heavily to the ground; he glared daggers at Abdel Aziz and the bluish energy streaked towards him, striking him full in the chest and sending him tumbling back. He scrambled to his feet, feeling the poison within him work to repair his wounds. He bounced from one foot to the other, still in good shape, his opponent knelt on the floor and on his last legs.

Jin wanted, in part, to curse and cry out and kick and slap his palm to his face and shake his fist at the gods but instead, because he cared about his pokémon, he found patience.

"You're doing great, Abdel Aziz," he said more loudly than was necessary. He was watching the tall green breloom in the center of the marshy, raining desert stadium and the great brown krookodile at the other end of the field. The krookodile was on its last legs, panting and heaving, but it was still very much ready to fight and this made Jin's weaker disposition boil with impatience. He took a deep breath, and exhaled.

"I'm sorry Abdel Aziz, I thought you'd take him out with that hit. I don't know what I was thinking. Let's finish this, friend: get him with another Mach Punch!" He shook his own head, realizing how distracted he'd been. The Kingdra's blind rage still played through his mind; the baby gible very literally played in his arms.

"This is a good battle," Jin offered, to Tim the gym grunt. "You've got some strong pokémon." He nodded his head towards the Krookodile, whose resilience made him the undisputed MVP of the match. "And that Nidoking was awesome. Where did you meet him?" Jin White buried his hands in the pockets of his sweater, hunched forward a bit, sending all his love and all his energy to the breloom in the center of this desert.

Jin knew not the definition of the word mercy. Abdel Aziz knew it even less. So much so, that it darted off upon hearing the word Mach. It knew what the command was, and it knew what it desired. The only sound the followed after the small boom from the Breloom breaking the sound barrier was the sound of breaking bone. Whether it was the Krookodile's teeth or jaw, it mattered little. It was the gator that felt pain and lots of it. Before Tim could even order an attack, the poor creature was on the floor. The battle was over. The winner... Jin.

Tim could do little but recall his Pokémon and hang his head in shame. Phyllis would surely hear of this defeat and demand a tougher training regiment for the gym grunt. A dark day lay ahead of the poor man. A dark day indeed. Good thing that Jin didn't need to stick around for that, else he'd probably be dragged into this training regiment as well. The young trainer might even like it.

"Thanks!" Time replied. "I met Nidoking when he was still nothing more than a Nidoran." He paused for a moment, as he pondered on Jin's question. "If I recall correctly I met him out in the Sanded Grasslands some years ago. There should be plenty of them if you go look for them. I've also heard that they show up in the Hillmoss Grasslands. Why? You interested in one?"

OOC: Jin is free to leave or challenge another gym grunt. Heck, he can even challenge Phyllis if that's what he wants. Carry on!

-x-

...He was in too many places at once, lately.

He'd been here for ages, it seemed, but his mind was traveling across the continent and he couldn't find contentment. Jin was restless, unstable; the constant teleporting left him with a sense of vertigo. "I was looking for one," he said, to his opponent, about the nidoking, "for someone I knew..." but that person was gone now, and Jin was unsure, and as he recalled his pokémon to their pokéballs he tried to remember where he was going.

"Good game, man..." and in the next instant he was teleporting out of the gym, out of this town, back home to Kevin Baconville where everything was vivid and blinding. He stumbled into his hotel, stumbled back out of it, healed his pokémon at the center, and in another hour he was teleporting back to the Aridair desert with a lost look in his eye. 'Know where you're going,' someone had told him, and he tried to remember, but his thoughts were too many places at once.

He didn't see Tim, this time, as he strode through the Aridair Gym and made straight for its Leader. He didn't realize it, but he was surrounded by pokémon. One was a floating green reuniclus with baby blue eyes and a coy smile. One was a tall and proud breloom, who looked worried, and who doted after his friend and trainer. Another was a shuffling yet somehow feminine excadrill who made waves across the stadium's sanded floor. "Hello," Jin said, curtly, to the Phyllis the Gym Leader. "I've come to issue a challenge." His words were distant, his eyes were distant, and something was brewing in the furrow of his brow.
