It was 3 o'clock in the afternoon, it was hot though it was raining, and the unfinished building of the Ashdell Gym leaked from the ceiling. When Jin White pushed through its heavy, rusted double doors, he smelled sulfur, and sawdust, and sweat. He was in a factory-cum-gymnasium and he heard the grunting echoes of people sparring. His heart was pounding, and he wasn't sure why. The smell of the place overwhelmed him, in the sense that he'd just entered a rather strange and inviting new world. The outside was immediately forgotten; the hot aura of Ashdell's Gym distracted him. There was a long, narrow hallway and a great number of open rooms on either side, and the grunting came primarily from these rooms. He passed the first and saw a man with a flaming tiger fighting a girl with a flaming dog. They were all sweating, and too busy to acknowledge Jin. He felt the flames of the tiger lap at the doorway and he turned instead for the end of the hall, where the big training room waited, and where the Gym Leader presumably took his challengers. But the aura of the place intrigued him, and he wanted to make himself comfortable here. He sought another, smaller training room, one devoid of any heavy grunting, and invited himself to it. There was no other trainer present, yet, but he imagined someone would come fight him if he held his ground and just made eye contact. There were a few pokéballs strapped around his waist, three on either hip. There was a bag over his shoulder, and it was heavy with the weight of a couple large pokémon eggs. He automatically unlatched one of the pokéballs from its place and it rolled it in his palm, dark eyes just out of focus as he prepared. 'The biggest threats to expect: Talonflame, Darmanitan, Chandelure. Ninetales. Mohsen handles the most of them. Talonflame is the largest threat, which is why...' he lifted the pokéball from his hand, to his lips. 'This is a risk, Abdel Aziz, but I have complete faith in you. Do your best.' He nestled the one pokéball with both hands, and he put himself in the doorway, eager now for a battle. {{Trying to get an NPC apprentice battle going, not the Leader himself just yet. Chat battle OR REGULAR is fine for this one.}} PARTY: Zweilous [52] @ draco plate Reuniclus [52] @ leftovers Rotom-H [60] Breloom [60] @ focus sash Kingdra [52] @ life orb Gyarados [79] @ gyaradosite Torchic & Gible Egg 13/20 Edited by Jin White, Mar 25 2014, 03:50 PM.

3 ~ It was unusual for trainers to come to the gym seeking a battle with the gym's apprentices. But it was also the point of having apprentices, so trainers who didn't feel ready to fight the gym leader could try their hand with the leader's personal apprentices. So when Jack found Jin hanging around one of the training rooms he didn't hesitate to challenge the stranger. "So looking for a battle kid? Well I'll oblige you." Jack stated looking quite cocky. He seemed well suited to the gym with long, fiery red hair and going about shirtless wearing only a pair of tight black shorts. The male squared off with Jin. He sent out his first pokemon, the ghostly Chandelure who leered eerily at the male and his breloom. And thus the battle was on. 5 // wow if i had realized before going into that battle that jin was facing a shirtless redhead in tight black shorts... well, it's for the best that he was oblivious.- x - Jin White was standing outside the Ashdell Gym amidst a small army of pokémon. It was still raining; it was nearly five o'clock; it was a hot day, and the volcanic mountains surrounding the city grumbled, as though restless. This brick red city only became more stark in the rain, with the grey-black sky heavy overhead. Jin didn't mind the rain, as it washed away his sweat. His dark hair was a mess over his forehead and his eyes, big and dark, shone over the five pokémon surrounding him. He was anxious, and it showed in his brow. Abdel Aziz, the tall green breloom, chirped once and tossed its head to the sky: Jin caught a glimpse of a blue ribbon, like a snake, weaving through the storm. Jin's features lightened when he saw the gyarados, there. He passed his gaze over the rest of his team, emboldened. "Listen, friends. We're about to go to war. John Galt," he said, to a floating red toaster oven, which stared with a face devoid of pain, or fear, or guilt, "you lead the defensive backbone." John Galt the red oven, the rotom-heat, lifted himself into the sky and fired off a low, golden spark. A two-headed black dragon yipped eagerly in the space beneath him; a glowing amorphous reuniclus floated up to meet him. The three of them formed a unit, and Jin White went to the black dragon. "This won't be easy, but I know you won't disappoint me. You're strong," here he put a hand on one of the dragon's two heads, while the second head yipped for its share of attention, "you're wise, and you're courageous. You're stoic and you're capable, right?" John Galt whirred and buzzed; the reuniclus glowed; the black dragon barked its excitement. "Abdel Aziz," Jin said, turning to the tall green breloom. The young man's expression melted from any semblance of anxiety to complete and honest faith. "You're the hole-puncher. Be quick on your feet, and show them what you're made of." Jin nodded, his head close to the breloom's. He clasped the mushroom pokémon on the shoulder, and they both stole a glance upward at the gyarados in the sky. It wasn't in its hulking, mega form; it was a sleek blue ribbon, from down here, or a thread weaving the sky. Jin turned his pep-talk to the fifth pokémon present, feeling its warm glow as he approached it. A giant, sun-colored moth hovered delicately in the sky, making golden gemstones of the rain, and it buzzed to itself like a - - Wait, Jin, what the fuck. What? I thought you didn't believe in any of this. I thought you were abstaining from violence. Why are you at a gym fighting for a badge? ...Because the way to change things is always from the inside. You better not forget it, friend. - - and it buzzed to itself like a clock in motion. It was beautifully self-possessed, sentient but quiet, powerful but restrained. "You, friend, are my first sweeper. Mohsen's up in the sky, so the onus is on you to end things. Two boosts should be enough." He paused, in front of the great, bright-colored moth; he watched it flick its wings against the rain and send twin hurricanes to either side. There was another pokémon, a sixth, which Jin held onto with a sense of weariness. He withdrew the other five one by one into their pokéballs, watching them disappear in rays of red light, and he strapped them all to their places at his hips. Then he lifted the sixth pokéball, the one containing Duke II, the Grand Old Duke, so that it was level with his eyes. He felt the pokéball pulse and shake. "I promise," he said to Duke II, loudly, "I promise we'll find you a home outside of this ball." He turned for the gym's rusted double doors and pushed inside. {{challenging the leader now}} Party: Zweilous [52] @ draco plate Reuniclus [52] @ life orb Rotom-H [61] Breloom [61] @ focus sash Kingdra [53] @ life orb Volcarona [60] @ leftovers torchic & gible egg: 14/20 Edited by Jin White, Feb 4 2014, 09:35 PM.
